LANY transformed Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion into a haven of dreamy pop beats and heartfelt connections. The setlist, a rollercoaster of emotions, delivered everything fans have come to love about the trio: vulnerability, energy, and a sense of community.
The night opened with the fan-favorite “YOU!”, sparking immediate energy across the venue as Paul Klein and the band emerged from behind white curtains and 007 like spotlights, setting the stage for what felt like therapy on a Wednesday night. This show, part of their long-awaited tour, had been delayed due to Klein’s recent motorcycle accident, adding a layer of poignancy to their return to the stage since their last tour in Sydney in 2022. The crowd was in sync with every beat, and from there, LANY didn’t let up. “ex i never had” and “up to me”brought a mix of nostalgia and fresh energy that’s quintessential to LANY’s style. The wistful “It Even Rains in LA” and the introspective “I Pray” showcased lead singer Paul Klein’s emotional range, leaving fans hanging on every lyric.
In a particularly memorable moment, the band segued into “somewhere / Sugar & Cinnamon”, drawing fans deeper into the introspective core of their music before jumping into fan favorite “care less” from their 2021 album, gg bb xx. Klein’s raw vocal delivery paired with airy melodies set the stage for heartbreak anthems like “Congrats” and the soul-baring “I Don’t Wanna Love You Anymore” making everyone including me grove.
As the setlist progressed, LANY continued to guide the crowd through highs and lows, balancing upbeat anthems with reflective ballads. “dancing in the kitchen”sparked joy and movement, while “pink skies” added a magical atmosphere—complete with a surprise proposal. As the intro to this 2016 hit played, Klein invited a fan on stage with his partner where he got down on one knee, prompting cheers from the sold-out crowd at Hordern.
LANY kept the mellow vibe going with “Alonica”, “Thick and Thin”, and “Out of My League”, while “dna”resonated with deeper emotional undertones. The back-to-back performance of “Super Far / Mean It” brought a jolt of excitement, leading into Klein’s acoustic rendition of “13”, a moment fans had eagerly anticipated. The melodic, minor-key rendition of “Hericane” filled the room with raw emotion, even if played only partially, before the band transitioned seamlessly into “’Cause You Have To”.
The evening’s came with the trio’s powerful nostalgic fan favourite off their 2019 album “Thru These Tears” and “Malibu Nights”, both delivering the full scope of LANY’s signature sound: bittersweet lyrics and lush instrumentals that tug at the heartstrings which are suitable for those are in love or are heartbroken. For the encore, “ILYSB” brought the crowd to a fever pitch, with every word shouted back in a unified, emotional wave. Finally, they closed with the powerful “XXL”, a fitting end to a night that felt larger than life, with Klein diving into the crowd multiple times before the band bid farewell to Hordern in true Lonely Tunes style.
The crowd at Hordern Pavilion was left buzzing, carried by LANY’s effortless transitions between joy and heartache. The show was a reminder of how the band continues to build genuine connections with fans through their music and presence. Every track on the setlist was a perfect piece in the tapestry of an unforgettable evening, proving once again that LANY is more than a band—they’re a shared experience.

With soaring melodies and emotive lyrics, Sydney indie-rock group JET CITY SPORTS CLUB are back with a brand new single titled ‘MINI SKIRT’.
The band’s latest release is a strong addition to a catalogue that has included the Every Single Dream EP; a career defining moment for Jet City Sports Club, continuing to build upon the momentum the last few years have generated. As one of the East Coast’s exciting fresh players, Jet City Sports Club have been working hard on creating music that focuses on the vision they have for their music moving into a brand new year.
With a song like ‘Mini Skirt’, the band is taking strong steps into this new direction.
Recorded with Fletcher Matthews (Trophy Eyes, Dear Seattle, Stumps) at his studio in Glebe, Jet City Sports Club pulled influences from artists they love, including The Cure, Holly Humberstone and The Beaches, while pushing their honest brand of storytelling and delivery further than they had on previous releases.
Of the song, the band describes ‘Mini Skirt’ as being about “growing up” and realising there isn’t necessarily one right way to do things or move through life.
“…you don’t have to be perfect or conform to the ways your friends, family or the world might want you to. The story is narrated from the perspective of a young girl going through serious body image issues and pressure to be someone they might not necessarily be. The verses talk about this and the chorus aims to reclaim a sense of independence and self worth.”
JET CITY SPORTS CLUB
The vibrancy and confidence heard on this music matches the energy Jet City Sports Club have taken into their live performances in recent years as well. Since their debut in 2021, the group has gone from strength to strength, touring with artists including Ruby Fields, Old Mervs, Dear Seattle and more; while also performing sets at Lost Paradise and the Mountain Goat Valley Crawl and with upcoming summer spots at Rolling Sets and Party In The Paddock.
Extensive support via Triple J, Triple J Unearthed and community radio, as well as DSPs (Spotify’s Fuzzy, Fresh Finds; Apple Music’s NMD, Good Times, New Indie, Pop Chill and more), have established Jet City Sports Club as an Australian indie group to watch. With each release the band steps up to the plate and proves all of this and more.
PRAISE
“A glimmering shard of sunshine through heavy curtains, ‘She Don’t Need No One’ contains many small moments of poetic romance: a seat belt tan line from driving topless in the sun; a momentary crush spawned from the brief touch of an arm; a city not feeling the same any more, despite a 40C day…”
THE GUARDIAN
“Holy s**t. Absolutely loving this sound, that build is so satisfying. Great vocals, great guitar, great journey you take us on.”
TRIPLE J, JESS PERKINS
“The kinda song to put a sweet little smile on your face. Love all the textures, it feels calming even when the guitar kicks in. Just gorgeous!”
TRIPLE J CLAIRE MOONEY
Summer 2024/25 is looking to be a busy one for the band, as they prepare to hit the road supporting both Annie Hamilton and Eliza and the Delusionals as well as playing Rolling Sets and Party In The Paddock from December through to February.

THE GREAT POP REVIVAL
Static sounds and flickering lights… the screen teased retro super film as the subs began to tease the heart… a voice over transported us into a special place… the Hordern was ready… ready to witness something magical… an eagerness somewhat like when man walked on the moon filled the room… and there she was… the twenty one year old icon… taking her rightful place as the future of pop… taking us to brand new, magical places.
She doesn’t just have a fantastic vocal range or songs that have become the anthems of millions of her fans lives. Tate McRae brings everything pop is onto one stage. The dancers, the sas, the sexy, the songs, the stage design… she has created her own little world and invited us along for the ride and it is no accident. We owe it to the sacrifice she made being placed in the spotlight at 13, a sacrifice that has equip her with a wealth of knowledge throughout all fascists of the industry to add spice where it is needed, write songs with depth, ensure her people are loved with rooftop pop ups and collude dance, lights and ballads to strike the hearts of anyone who found themselves in the Hordern Pavilion at 9pm on a Tuesday night.
Tate showed off her spectacular taste having Seattle born Charlieonnafriday open the night with a wonderful little set full of his hit singles such as Enough, I’m not crazy and After Hours as well showing of pieces of his new album WILD CHILD with tracks such as When it Rains filling the room with pure joy. His eclectic sound that merges pop, country tones and a mellow hip hop forces heads to nod and the hips to sway. The perfect to vibe to warm up the Mcrazies for the main event.
Opening with the heaving hitting Think later had the sea of Jerseys, high ponies and stuffed teddies going word for word alongside her from the get go. With vibrant dance breaks and guitar solos she and her team brought their A-game showing of her latest Album THINK LATER in all of the awe inspiring ways. She also gave the day ones some love including the tracks uh oh and she’s all I wanna be as well as the song that really put her on the musical map at sixteen you broke me first. There is something quite special when someone can bring together the die hards, the fathers, the broken hearted and the joy filled to sing together under one roof tracks like exes next to guilty conscience really emphasising how different people, from different worlds can have such powerful shared experiences.
Overall, Tate was five stars, she inspired the woman to own who they are, back each other, enjoy where they are at and being a little bitter sometimes isn’t such a bad thing. She currently holds a prominent space in the pop scene and with The Kid Laroi on her arm partnered with some of lasts years biggest and best pop songs there is not much stopping her from stealing all of Australia’s hearts.

Sydney’s BOBBY UNCLE shares new track ‘THE WAY YOU STAND’ from debut EP MIMES MISS THE BEACH
Continuing to delight with his own brand of indie-pop sounds, Sydney songwriter and performer Bobby Uncle has returned with a new single titled ‘The Way You Stand’.
Taken from the artist’s forthcoming debut EP Mimes Miss The Beach, ‘The Way You Stand’ serves as a great gateway into Bobby Uncle’s songwriting style, and the evolution of his soundscapes as we head into the end of the year. Leaning into ‘80s synth and ‘70s guitar-rock influences, ‘The Way You Stand’ encompasses the intoxicating feeling one gets when they come across someone who completely mesmerises them.
Following on from tracks including ‘February (I Know)’, ‘Tragedy Delight’ and ‘Coffee’, ‘The Way You Stand’ is a fun and immersive release from Bobby Uncle that provides cool insight into the rest of the EP project.
“I thought to myself, what is a silly characteristic about someone that makes them so special and in a league of their own, compared to everyone else? I thought, well obviously, the way they stand. I mean, who compliments someone by the way they stand? Yet, if you think about it, the way someone stands can really make them stand out from a crowd. Just look at supermodels and the way they stand on the billboards, or a Hollywood superstar in a movie. You can point them out even if they are walking with a stream of people. Nonetheless, the song is meant to be fun, energetic and to capture that good feeling of a summer love, hence why the lyrics are quite playful.” BOBBY UNCLE
‘The Way I Stand’ was recorded in Neutral Bay, Sydney, at Bobby Uncle’s home studio. The beginnings of the song were coming together in December 2023, though he only returned to it in September 2024 to finish it off into the bright final result we hear today.
Bobby Uncle has been on a strong upwards trajectory since emerging back in 2021 – with significant support from radio and editorial outlets alike. Previous single’s ‘Summertime (Make It Happen)’ and ‘Coffee’ both saw heavy airplay on stations such as triple J, triple J Unearthed, iHeart Radio, SYN and 4ZZZ; and have been praised by tastemakers such as Rolling Stone Australia, Scenestr, Frankie Magazine and AAA Backstage upon release.
PRAISE
“Sydney’s Bobby Uncle has brewed up “Coffee” – a fun pop single about sleepless nights over a crush who doesn’t feel the same way.”
ROLLING STONE AUSTRALIA (‘Coffee’, 2024)
“Bobby Uncle reels you in with luscious melodies and an upbeat tone – loving this new one <3”
TRIPLE J UNEARTHED, ANIKA LUNA (‘Coffee’, 2024)
“Your voice goes in some really interesting and unexpected places here. Bring on that EP!”
TRIPLE J, ABBY BUTLER (‘Summertime (Make It Happen)’, 2024)
“‘Coffee’ weaves through many different moods and tones throughout its runtime – creating a consistently compelling listen, filled to the brim with catchy ear worms that are sure to stick around long after the song has finished.”
THE ROCKPIT (‘Coffee’, 2024)
“Here, whirring synths accompany Uncle’s voice, which on the chorus becomes distorted with a hazy vocoder flair. Pulling together such eclectic sounds, Uncle coalesces the track around an insatiable, ever-catchy rhythm, and some truly earwormy refrains.”

“Drunk Plans” has such a relatable theme. What inspired you to write about unfulfilled plans and the honesty that comes with them?
This song started with the fact that I am notorious for making plans, especially when I’m out and about. I came in with the idea of writing a song about making brunch plans, which quickly turned into drunk plans. I just think it’s such a fun take on a universal topic.
How was it working with Brad Hill on this track, and what unique qualities did he bring to the production?
Working with Brad is always a lot of fun. He has such great intuition when it comes to the musical direction of a song and how to tie that to who I am as an artist. He’s really great at tailoring his production to each artist, so getting to collaborate with him has been pretty special.
“Drunk Plans” leads your upcoming EP. Can you give us a sneak peek into the themes or stories we can expect in the rest of the EP?
The upcoming EP feels pretty unapologetic. I really wanted to write what I felt and not worry so much about outside opinions so I could get back to the root of why I started music. A lot of the writing on this EP feels empowered, with a level of self-awareness in each song. It comes down to me dialing in who I am and acknowledging or poking fun at certain parts of my personality. It’s been pretty reflective writing this project, haha!
You’ve had a phenomenal year, from your debut at CMA Fest to performances with iconic artists. What has been the most surreal moment so far?
It’s been a pretty surreal year, that’s for sure. It’s hard for me to nail down one moment because there’ve been so many, but if I had to choose, it would probably be CMA Fest. Playing that festival has always been a dream of mine, and being invited to make my debut was a huge reminder that I’m on the right path.
Your ballad “If This Is Love” resonated with many fans. How did it feel to see it gain over 1.5 million streams and win you two BCCMA Awards?
That was a huge milestone for me. “If This Is Love” still stands as one of my favorite songs I’ve released, so to see a song I was so attached to find that success was such a career highlight.
After being named Rogers Media’s “One to Watch,” how has that recognition influenced your career or approach to music?
It reassured me to trust myself in the kind of music I want to create. Watching “If This Is Love” find success on radio and streaming was a big catalyst for creating this current project. It let me know that I can make the style of music I love and carve out a space for myself in the industry. That recognition changed a lot for me and my approach.
You’ve performed in diverse settings, from Canadian festivals to Nashville’s Song Suffragettes. How do these different audiences impact your performance?
It definitely prepares you for any situation. I’ve been lucky to be part of so many incredible shows, and I think it builds your performance chops. Writers rounds have made me more comfortable sharing my life and letting people into an experience, which has made me more open in bringing that same vulnerability into a full band show.
As an Alberta-raised, Nashville-based artist, how do these places influence your sound and songwriting?
Growing up in Alberta, I was surrounded by country music. It was always playing around the house, and that’s where I really found my love for it. Moving to Nashville has been one of the biggest influences on my most recent writing style. Being surrounded by talent here builds confidence in your originality. There’s a lane for everyone, and Nashville has been pivotal in learning that.
Your recent single “Sendin’ Myself to Church” was well-received. What message or feeling were you hoping to convey with that track?
“Sendin’ Myself to Church” was such a fun song to write. I’d love to think I’m always level-headed and watching my P’s and Q’s, but I can admit that every now and then things tick me off, haha! I love the idea of admitting when we need a little help to keep it together because taking the high road doesn’t always feel like the easiest path.
With “Drunk Plans” out now, what are you most excited about for your fans to experience with this release?
I’m excited for people to get to know my personality a little more, and I think it’s a great indication of where I’m headed musically. “Drunk Plans” is a lighthearted take on the empty plans and promises we make, and that kind of self-awareness carries throughout this project.

Congrats on the release of ‘Clutter’! Could you tell us a bit more about the story behind the track? What sparked the inspiration for that ‘cluttered’ feeling in the song?
Thank you so much! The inspiration for ‘clutter’ came from the emotional whirlwind of being deeply affected by someone. I’m a very emotionally driven person, and I tend to feel things very intensely. When I’m going through something, I take those feelings straight into my songwriting. With this track, I wanted to capture what that initial spark feels like, meeting someone new and finding yourself unable to stop thinking about them!
You’ve nailed that feeling of a mind swirling with thoughts of someone special. Was there a particular moment or experience that helped you tap into those emotions?
I’m so glad it resonates! In terms of tapping into those emotions, I’d say that my current relationship definitely played a big role in bringing the song to life. I think it helped give the song personal authenticity and I hope others can relate to it too.
The music video for ‘Clutter’ has such a warm, early 2000s vibe. What was it like working with Nikola Jovanovic to bring that aesthetic to life, and how did the location choice, The Press Coffee and Book House, come into play?
Picking a visual aesthetic for my music is always one of my favourite parts of the creative process—I usually have a vivid idea of how I want it to look. For ‘clutter,’ I drew a lot of inspiration from early 2000s fashion and media, and my friend Siena helped bring that to life by creating a lookbook to style me. I envisioned a cluttered, book-filled background, and The Press felt perfect. I was able to organise a shoot after hours, and it turned out exactly as I imagined. Working with Nikola is awesome and we just have this great creative synergy that makes every shoot feel effortless.
Your music blends so well with influences like Gracie Abrams and Olivia Rodrigo. How do you bring your own spin on indie-pop while pulling inspiration from these artists?
Thank you! I have so many music influences across different genres, and while they don’t always directly reflect in the sound of what I create, they definitely inspire me. When I hear a great song, it’s less about wanting to replicate it and more about the way it motivates me to write and create something of my own. I think that’s how I bring my own spin to indie-pop—I channel that inspiration into my emotions and experiences, making the music feel authentic to me.
‘Clutter’ captures the light-hearted yet intense emotions of a crush beautifully. How did you go about layering the romantic piano melodies with the livelier elements of the chorus to build that feeling?
Working with Gracie, my producer, is such an amazing part of the creative process. I don’t always know how to put exactly what I’m imagining into words, but I always have a distinct sound in my head—and it’s like Gracie can read my mind. She just gets it. For ‘clutter,’ she really helped flesh out the layers, It’s amazing to watch her bring those visions to life so effortlessly.”
With each new release, you seem to grow more confident in your sound. How has your style evolved since your debut EP ‘Bleed’ last year?
I totally agree! I think most artists would say that as they grow, their music grows with them. ‘Bleed’ is such a special part of my journey—I can listen back and instantly feel who I was and what I was going through when I wrote it. It’s like a time capsule. With my newer releases, I feel like I’m really starting to find my sound, and that’s so exciting. I’m looking forward to writing more and seeing where this path takes me next!
What was it like performing alongside acts like Taj Ralph and Seb Szabo? Did sharing the stage with them influence your approach to live shows?
Performing with Taj and Seb was such an amazing experience. One of the best things about being a new artist is getting to watch people you look up to and seeing how they do things on stage. It’s so inspiring and helps me figure out my own style. I love performing, and it was such an honour to support them.
Triple J and Triple J Unearthed have shown such strong support for your music. How does it feel to get that recognition from platforms so integral to Aussie music?
I’m so grateful for the support and feedback I’ve received from the Triple J and Unearthed teams. Unearthed is such an amazing platform for emerging artists—it’s incredible to have a space that champions new music like that. It’s been so encouraging, and I really hope to keep building connections and fostering those relationships in the future.
With Newcastle being such a key part of your journey, how has the local music scene helped shape you as an artist? Do you feel there’s something unique about creating music here?
The Newcastle music scene is something I’m incredibly grateful for. I’ve felt so welcomed and supported since I started making music and playing live. Being in a smaller city, there’s this tight-knit community where everyone in the scene is really connected—it genuinely feels like a family. That sense of closeness and support has definitely shaped me as an artist and made creating music here feel really special.
‘Clutter’ explores vulnerability in such a refreshing way. What do you hope listeners take away from the track, especially those who might be caught up in their own version of a ‘cluttered’ crush?
Thank you so much! I hope listeners find comfort in knowing they’re not alone in the overwhelming feelings that come with a crush and that it’s okay to embrace it. Being emotional or even an overthinker can actually be a blessing—those cluttered feelings often lead to something really special. I want the track to remind people that those moments of vulnerability can be just as beautiful as they are intense.
