Where are you currently based and what is the music scene like there?
I’m Currently Based in Brisbane! The Music Scene here I feel is divided and nobody really works outside of their cliques.
How did you first start playing music?
I started getting into it when I was 12-14 and started recording properly when I was 16
What’s been happening since the release of your album last year?
Since then I’ve been putting in work for a Music Video that I had just released, putting in work for other artists Music Videos, I started a Band called Trashmouth and we’re opening for Crazy Town (Butterfly) on the 22nd of Feb.
Your new video for single ‘Heard About Me’ is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting for this track?
I didn’t have a direct influence, I was wanting to do a song with Say TrueGod? as our first collab together was done over 7 years ago, I heard this beat and it fit what I felt needed to be done.
How did you go about writing Heard About Me?
As above, I then wrote the hook out of inspiration through hearing the beat, I then wrote a Verse to match and hit up Say TrueGod? to come into the studio to record his part.
Where and when did you record/produce and who with?
This song and even my entire album was produced by Brandon James (Mixedbybrandon) at our Studio – Black Ace Studios.
How did you approach the recording process?
At first I wasn’t even sure how I was going to complete the song, I had started working on the video concept with the third verse empty, Freewyo I had been working with previously for his own Music Videos and we gained a friendship through that, I then realised that he was the missing puzzle to this track.
How did the concept for the video come about?
I had sat down with Neil Noble and worked out this concept over a few months, trialing ideas back and fourth until we decided on this one.
Where and when did you film?
We filmed this in June of 2019 and we filmed this on the Gold Coast.
How did the editing process take place?
After everyone had been paid the editing process began over 1-2 months with Neil Noble with a few drafts and then I threw in my own colour grade/transitions to complete it.
Is the end result as you expected it to be?
It turned out well! After a few back and fourths with the draft and then adding my own final touches.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
Blessed, Anfa Rose, G-Eazy, Eminem, Joynar Lucas, Ursa 13, NF, Stormzy, The Weeknd, Post Malone, Yelawolf, Horrorshow, Mike Shinoda (From Linkin Park) and the list goes on.
What do you like to do away from music?
Aside from Music I’ve got my hands involved with producing Music Videos or Photography for people, I enjoy that aspect of things also!
What’s planned for 2020?
More Music, More Videos, More shows.
Favourite food and place to hangout?
Nothing like hanging out at home with the homies with a few beers/smoke acompanied by some good munchies that I prefer to cook myself.
Canadian country artist Lisa Nicole is proud to share her newest single and music video “Wait on Me”, which is newly available on all digital platforms and was released to Canadian radio on February 10th.
“Wait on Me” – written in Nashville by Lisa Nicole, Jason Thomas, and Dave Pahanish – is the debut single from her 2020 fall album, Where the Wild Hearts Beat, and her first collaboration with CCMA award-winning producer Jeff Johnson. Cliff Hokanson directed the accompanying music video, which was released on February 5th.
This is the first single for the Canadian singer – originally from Castlegar, British Columbia – since she moved to Nashville for the spring and summer of 2018 to add fuel to her creative fire.
Lisa Nicole says, “There are moments in life that test the balance of our commitment between professional goals and personal relationships. While there is great pressure to choose one over the other, I don’t believe it has to be that way. Your heart can want – and have – both. ‘Wait on Me’ is about making the bold choice to follow through on your dreams, but also build a future with someone you love anywhere and anytime – regardless of obstacles.”
The move to Music City connected Lisa Nicole and her longtime guitar player Thomas with Nashville hitmaker Pahanish (Keith Urban, Toby Keith). Her long-distance relationship with a Canadian partner back home proved to be the catalyst that inspired the trio to pen “Wait on Me”.
The choice to uproot from the Kootenays to Nashville was greatly inspired by a transformative and serendipitous 2017 moment for Lisa Nicole – winner of the 2015 Music BC/BC Country Music Association Artist Development Project – when she visited Nashville for a songwriting trip. Encouraged to see a pop-up concert by Keith Urban, she arrived with her 2016 EP in hand, only to end up on stage by night’s end to sing an impromptu duet of “We Were Us” with the superstar.
Following her extended stay in Nashville in 2018, Lisa Nicole returned to Canada with heaps of inspiration and a wealth of new material. Since then, she has joined forces with producer Jeff Johnson (Meghan Patrick, Chris Buck Band) to record her first full-length album, Where the Wild Hearts Beat – boasting a commercial country sound with an infusion of rock and pop. “Wait on Me” is the first gift from this collaboration. The album will drop this fall.

Following the release of their latest infectious single, ‘
BEACH PANIC!, the colourful and contagious music outfit featuring Tom and Dan from beloved post-hardcore group Belle Haven, are an act entrenched in DIY ethos. Every piece of BEACH PANIC! content is produced solely in-house – from their recordings, press shots, film clips, album art, stage backdrops and beyond.
The new video for ‘Lover Boy’ is no exception, with the band producing the entire clip themselves.
According to BEACH PANIC!, half of the ‘Lover Boy’ video was shot and edited from their home garage / studio, with the other half shot in offsite locations.
“We pushed the limits of what can be done with a bit of imagination for the ‘Lover Boy’ clip. Shot and edited from start to finish in only a few days, half the shoot was done in our share house’s garage/studio with a DIY studio set up, comprising of some fabric off cuts, a studio light and a few clamps.
Shooting in guerrilla style, the second half of the clip had us starring in some of our favourite outdoor settings, with some fabulous hand-painted outfits by our very own artist Tequila Sunrise.
We also used some re-purposed and painted op shop furniture that took a dip with us in the Warrandyte river. Just out of frame, we had an audience of around 100 people enjoying a nice summer day by the water. We also found time to pop into our local roller skating rink to carve it up in our fabulous matching outfits.”
A track that tugs firmly on your heartstrings, ‘Lover Boy’ is an unadulterated genre mashup that launches with ‘50s inspired doo-wop vocal stylings and explodes into a punk-rock wave rider, replete with Supergrass-esque harmonies and a splash of punchy post-hardcore guitars thanks to the band’s Belle Haven origins.
The ever-prolific musicians, BEACH PANIC! are currently working away on a new EP, slated for release in the first half of 2020. But for now, give ‘Lover Boy’ a hearty spin.

A Plethora of Support Acts Announced for Bluesfest Touring Shows this April
We’re proud to present some of the best local, rising talent for your listening pleasure across Australia and New Zealand this April. With some familiar favourites being added to join our headliners there’s some in there who will soon become your favourites and just might steal the show!
Commenting on the announcement, Head of Touring at Bluesfest, Kimberley Galceran said “Every year our headliners select their support artist from a shortlist of some of the best emerging talent, contemporary favourites and legends in their own right. It’s a pleasure watching the list of supports come together, they add to the richness, diversity and flavour of our sideshows. I often hear people exclaiming “how good was the support act!?” to a stranger during intermission and it gives me a smile. There’s an act in here you haven’t heard yet, that you’ll be playing for years to come, give them a listen.”
A strong obsession with space and novels helps inspire the concepts and writing within BATTS music. Dave Hole has a dedicated world-wide fan base and is widely regarded as one of the all-time slide guitar greats. His first album “Short Fuse Blues” was released in 1991 and he has since gone onto release nine more including ARIA awarded “Under The Spell”. Dave is supporting John Mayall in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.
Mashed with sweat, swagger, and guitars; The Delta Riggs recently announced their signing to the renowned X-Ray Touring roster, where they will join the likes of Coldplay and Eminem. Delta Riggs support Eagles of Death Metal in Sydney and Melbourne (19 April) this April.
DRMNGNOW is independent Artist based in Naarm/Birraranga Neil Morris. His sound and approach, grounded in strong cultural and values fuses a striking interdisciplinary approach to his art as an MC, Instrumentalist and poet with a searing decolonial and culturally engrossing message. DRMNGNOW is supporting Buffy Sainte-Marie in Melbourne on April 9.
With a love for looping electronic beats, bass, synths and vocal chops – Georgi Kay is a British-Australian artist who has received multiple awards for her original work, songwriting and collaborations. She has toured with the likes of Ed Sheeran and Tash Sultana. Georgi Kay supports LP in Sydney and Melbourne this April.
GORO is the combined force of respected Australian Hip Hop producers Caustic Yoda & Waza. Their sound blends improvisation with structure, mashing up live instruments, records & synths, with nods to early DJ Shadow, DJ Krush and J Dilla. Goro supports Morcheeba in Sydney on April 9.
Weaving together intense guitar and soulful vocals, Jesse Valach takes you on a journey from lights down low soul ballads to energetic shuffle romps delivered in demanding fashion. Catch Jess supporting The Marcus King Band in Melbourne on April 15.
Australian ‘Progressive Folk and Roots’ artist Jordan Mac has fast become known for his dynamic vocals and virtuosic ability on the twelve-string guitar while laying Middle Eastern and Celtic infused riffs over electronic beats, drums and Latin percussion. With influences ranging from blues guitar legends Ry Cooder and Buddy Guy to Jackson Browne and Ryan Adams, his own music is a blend of blues, rock and country. Teaming up for their debut single with British singer-songwriter JO3L, Italian trio Lazy Guys will release brand new track ‘How To Fly’ via Insanity / Sony Music on February 21.
JO3L said: “‘Co-writes always come out interesting. The parts I wrote were about the loss of my mate Scott, who was taken early. The parts Nathan wrote were about a relationship lost and rekindled. I love how the song has two meanings for us”
Producer Steve Forest, best known for penning Pitbull’s worldwide hit ‘I Know You Want Me’, teamed up with Spinnin’ Records contest winners Te Pai (Gaspare and Giovanni Migliore) last year to form Italian trio Lazy Guys. Born originally as a house music project for radio and clubs with the presence of international singers, their image characterises them with masks reminiscent of Spanish surrealist artist Salvador Dali. The duo are responsible for some exciting live shows, jammed full of creative costumes and set design.
JO3L is no stranger to the Music Industry and records under many different names and guises. He is best known for having Top Ten Chart success with the band Deepest Blue (who are currently in the studio recording a new album).

I really feel like 2020 is our time, a lot of great talent over this way and it's starting to slowly get recognised on a much bigger scale outside of our city. How did you first start playing music/DJing? A few years ago I started throwing these huge house parties and didn't want other people fucking the vibe with their selections. So I thought, I'll just DJ them myself. Someone happened to see me play and offered me my first club gig. I remember him saying "You've played in clubs before, right?!" and I was like "yeah of course bro!" hahaha.. I took that confidence to the gig and from there my resume speaks for itself. How was your 2019? Man last year was crazy. I spent a lot of time in LA, networking and working on the vision. Did a lot of huge gigs, here and internationally. Started having some real success with the label. 2019 was good. So, what's been happening recently? A lot man! We've recently expanded the team at Dough Related, and we've been pushing hard. One of our artists, REGI FLIH, has started to make some heavy waves in the Australian/NZ scene, and we're now pushing into the US. Just hit 100k US streams on one of his tracks last week actually! But collectively we are at almost 2 million streams across all of his singles/platforms which is great. You've just headlined Cake Festival in Perth, how was the show? How did the headline come about? It was insane, man. The energy at CAKE is always wild. Everyone is there to turn up and have a good time. Easily one of my favourite gigs to play at, I also played the main set at the Official After Party and the energy just carried all the way through. I've had a residency at CAKE since the first one back in 2018, and each show is bigger and better than the last. I had some local artists come up and perform one of their tracks during my set this time, it was vibes, bro. Please tell us about any new music that you've been working on: 2020 is going to be a big year for us. We have been going really hard in the studio recently building a backlog of tracks to dribble out throughout the year. I'm really excited to get it going. You're the founder/CEO of record label 'Dough Related' how and why did you decide to start your own record label? To be honest I didn't plan it haha. Dough Related was set up organically to help out a friend of mine but I soon fell in love with the game and realised the music business is my thing. It started as my little baby that I nurtured and now seeing it grow is even more inspirational, man. How has the experience with running your own label been so far and what have you found most rewarding and challenging? I think the most rewarding thing about owning a label is working with creatives from start to finish to literally turn dreams and thoughts into reality. Easily one of my favourite gigs to play at, I also played the main set at the Official After Party and the energy just carried all the way through. I’ve had a residency at CAKE since the first one back in 2018, and each show is bigger and better than the last. I had some local artists come up and perform one of their tracks during my set this time, it was vibes, bro.
