VOID OF VISION UNLEASH NEW MUSIC VIDEO FOR ‘DECAY’

by the partae July 9, 2020

Following the breakneck reception to their 2019 album Hyperdaze and a huge celebration tour kicking off the year, Melbourne’s Void Of Vision have emerged with a new music video for album track ‘Decay’ today.

On the genesis of the video, vocalist Jack Bergin explains:

“Before isolation hit we had a lot in the pipeline that was completely thrown out the window, including an elaborate music video idea which was immediately sidelined. We still wanted to pump out some form of visual for another track from the album, so fortunately these setbacks left us looking outside the box for opportunities to create.

Inspiration for this new clip came as the lease at my current rental finished up, leaving us with a blank canvas in the form of an empty house and leftover music video props. Going in with a budget of $0 was something very different for us but we managed to come out with a super simple yet effective isolation home movie. (Yes, we got our bond back).”

PRAISE FOR ‘HYPERDAZE’

“Thrilling… Void Of Vision are making nihilism look good. 4.5/5”
The Music

“Void Of Vision‘s strongest release yet… there seems to be nothing holding this band back. 9/10”
Wall Of Sound

“Establishes Void of Vision’s manifesto and hammers it home perfectly. 4/5”
Upset Magazine

Featuring singles ‘Hole In Me‘, ‘If Only‘ and ‘Babylon‘, Hyperdaze seizes a stark brand of bleakness that Void Of Vision have become known for. Bergin describes the record as seeping with “pure hatred, self-loathing and nihilism” and a cathartic purge of darkness for him personally.

After dropping in September to a wave of positive response, including The Music classing it a near-perfect 4.5/5 star release, Void Of Vision went on to support Northlane around Australia, took to festivals including Heaven And Hell Festival, Schema Festival and UNIFY 2020 and headlined across Australia and Japan.

Hyperdaze by Void of Vision is out now via UNFD.

Nathan Cavaleri is back and set to release his first solo album, Demons (out August 6) since being signed to Michael Jackson’s label at age twelve, today sharing his affecting new single, Before You Check Out, an introspective song with a deeply important message and a suitably poignant film clip.  Cavaleri will be celebrating the release of his new album with a national tour and was yesterday announced on the first Bluesfest 2021 lineup.   This is an artist with an incredible story to tell, so it’s fitting that ABC’s Australian Story will in early August be airing an episode detailing Nathan Cavaleri’s extraordinary life.  Picking up a guitar and learning enough basic skills from his Dad to play along with his favourite blues albums at just three years old, Nathan was playing electric guitar by five and had played his first gig by six – a 90 minute busking set in front of his Mother’s coffee shop that saw him take home $270.  Soon after, Nathan was diagnosed and treated for leukaemia, and the Starlight Foundation set up a meeting with his hero Mark Knopfler, attracting the attention of the media and soon after, a host of Aussie music icons.  By age ten, Nathan was making regular appearances on Hey Hey It’s Saturday and had toured the country extensively playing sold out arenas with Jimmy Barnes and Diesel, by twelve he’d toured the world and played with BB King, Etta James, Bonnie Raitt, and had made guest appearances on all the big American TV talk shows, he even performed for the Clintons during their time in office.  He was pursued by Prince and Madonna, and a bidding war ensued, with Nathan eventually signing to Michael Jackson’s MJJ Records.  Soon after, seven years after his diagnosis, Nathan was given a clean bill of health at age thirteen.  He recorded a bunch of records, starred in Camp Nowhere – a Disney film alongside Jessica Alba – and even appeared in an episode of Baywatch alongside The Hoff, and after one final tour with BB King, Nathan decided to take a break.  He came back to Australia and started a blues rock band with Col Hatcham from The Screaming Jets, dropping releases and touring extensively before suffering adrenal fatigue and severe anxiety which spiraled into depression and saw Nathan step away from the stage.  He’s since taken a number of years to work on his health, has dealt with and learned to manage his personal demons and has a newfound appreciation for his unique story. And now Nathan is back and ready to unleash his unique and commanding new music on the world.  View: mini doco on Nathan’s life.   New single Before You Check Out is a discreetly powerful song with gloriously sanguine finger picking, emotive slide guitar and Nathan’s effortless, velvety voice holding a warmth and tenderness that sits perfectly atop simple and effective instrumentation. Written for a cousin who lost his battle with mental illness a few years ago, Nathan explains, “I strongly identified with what he went through and wished I had reached out to him. Having battled my own demons, I wondered whether my experience would have helped. I contemplated what I’d share if time could show mercy. I would share how our thoughts and beliefs colourise our experience and skew our perception of the world, giving us a false sense of reality - a notion that helped me to expose the root of many of my physical and mental health issues that were mistakenly believed to be out of my control.”   Complemented by a film clip that highlights the sentiment of the song - that our views of the world can be tainted by projections of our past – the video further reveals the intense authenticity of the artist, with Nathan taking centre stage, vulnerabilities laid bare.    The Demons album boasts a diverse mix of songs from the impressive guitarist and vocalist who manages to bend genres, cleverly intertwining blues with indie rock pop and soul to create a vintage modern sound of his own, that ‘Nathan Cavaleri’ sound.  And his talents don’t stop there, with most of the album produced, engineered and mixed by Nathan himself, excluding five tracks that were co-produced and mixed by Tony Buchen (Montaigne, The Preatures), and mastered by Viking Lounge.   “What matters to me most is that I have a body of work that expresses messages that I’m deeply passionate about on a bed of music that is built on a lifetime of writing, recording and touring,” insights Nathan.  “The bulk of Demons was created during a time when I didn’t believe that I’d be mentally and physically stable enough to return to the stage. All songs were written from a place of catharsis. Lyrical themes range from antidotes for the depressed to my fascination for the more taboo side of desire. All falling one way or another under the theme of how humans crumble, melt, face, overpower, surrender, run or dance with our Demons.”     Eager to make his way around the country on tour, Nathan explains what fans can expect from his shows, saying, “In contrast to my younger years as a performer, the Demons tour will see me connecting to audiences in an intimate story-telling type of way. As a kid I had something to play, now I have something to say. My set will be strung together with epic and incredulous stories of growing up on the road, to how my connection to music deepened when I was battling Leukaemia as a kid, to the lessons I had to learn in more recent years dealing with mental health demons. Light and shade of the set mirrors the extreme dynamics of life experiences which I try to express in a raw and relatable way.” Before You Check Out is out now Demons will be released on August 6 The Demons national tour is on sale now, for tickets or more information, head to www.nathancavaleri.com STREAM: BEFORE YOU CHECK OUT WATCH: BEFORE YOU CHECK OUT PRE-SAVE: DEMONS ALBUM REQUEST ADVANCE DEMONS ALBUM STREAM FROM EMILY@ONTHEMAPPR.COM   DEMONS NATIONAL TOUR Nathan and his team are working with all venues in line with government regulations in each state and territory, and will proceed only in accordance with safe social distancing and COVID-19 safety procedures on a show by show basis. MUZZ drops hot new track ‘Somewhere Else’ on Monstercat

by the partae July 9, 2020
written by the partae

UK drum and bass producer MUZZ is one of Monstercat’s most prolific signings. With three tracks already released since the end of May, MUZZ is back once again with a rip-roaring new single alongside Danyka Nadeau – who stars on this massive track, ‘Somewhere Else’.

This six-and-a-half-minute epic tune exemplifies MUZZ’s blockbuster production style, with a nearly three-minute intro build that could be a track in its own right. Swooping orchestral strings and sorrowful pianos underpin Nadeau’s silky-smooth vocal before the mood shifts into a more powerful, soaring place.

Harmonies help lift the vocal higher as bass tones and huge synth chords give a taste of what’s to come. It’s another masterpiece, and will push fans’ anticipation for the full album to fever pitch.

MUZZ: “This track was definitely a curveball for me because it essentially combines whale music with drum & bass – two genres that couldn’t be further apart. There’s a pretty specific story behind the writing process (which I will leave unsaid and open to discussion) and has a unique progressive flow that’s really unheard of in this genre.”

MUZZ feat. Danyka Nadeau ‘Somewhere Else’ is out now.

‘Out There’, ‘Start Again’ and ‘Nemesis’ were all released earlier this year, and complement each other to build upon MUZZ’s deep passion for storytelling. Each track and its accompanying artwork continue to deliver top notch music alongside world building elements that are sure to come together soon in a cohesive piece of work.

About MUZZ

MUZZ is a producer and DJ renowned for the pulsating fusion of Drum & Bass and Industrial rock overlaid with orchestral arrangements and euphoric hooks. He has become one of the hottest go-to names for fierce, high octane music. He holds a unique power of bringing together both the drum & bass world and the wider electronic music into his devoted fanbase. Having released over 40 tracks and remixes and been nominated 4 years consecutively for Best DJ & Best Producer at the Drum and Bass Awards together with millions of YouTube views and millions of Spotify plays without any major playlisting, there is undoubtedly something for everyone, whether it be his energy-laced DJ sets or his stunning musical productions.

Benjamin Trillado releases a vulnerable interpretation of ‘Worth’ with dancer and filmmaker Jacob Edmonds

“Trillado’s songwriting is as profound as the delivery.” – Girl Underground Music

Independent Single Of The Week – The New Thing Eastside Radio 89.7fm

The music of Benjamin Trillado is composed of richness and is full of vulnerability, and new single ‘Worth’ is no different revealing an empowering search for self-love and acceptance as a queer person through lyrics. The track’s restrained production allows space for Benjamin’s ethereal voice to weave through delicate guitar work and tug directly at the heartstrings.

Following the release of his successful debut single ‘Glue’, Benjamin’s music has already reached a global audience, ‘Glue’ attaining over 450,000 streams on Spotify, which was followed up with second single ‘First Kiss’ leading to Benjamin playing shows in Melbourne and Sydney during 2019. Teaming up with sound engineer Jono Steer (Angie McMahon), and Grammy-nominated mastering engineer Joe Carra, ‘Worth’ is his most honest track yet, an empowering search for self-love and acceptance as a queer person.

After discovering Jacob Edmonds, one of the most sought after dance filmmakers on the rise on Instagram, Benjamin Trillado knew Jacob was the perfect fit to interpret and perform in the ‘Worth’ video. “I discovered some of Jacob’s work through Instagram and instantly fell in love with his dancing and cinematography. I let Jacob pretty much have free reign in regards to the aesthetics of the video and his performance. I trusted him and wanted his interpretation from one artist to another. He moves in a way that really captures the meaning and emotion of this song. I’m so stoked with how it turned out.”

Accepting the challenge to film, direct, perform in, and edit the ‘Worth’ video, Jacob Edmonds has not disappointed in delivering this stunning visual accompaniment to Benjamin Trillado’s personal and musical journey.

“As a performer and a filmmaker, it was my job to hear the song and translate that not only into movement but also into visuals. I tried a few different approaches but it became evident that I really needed to strip it back to allow the song to speak for itself. This meant no fancy location or lighting, just a body in space. As a dancer, I felt it needed to be a spot I was comfortable being in but also personal. The less projected the more the lyrics stuck out and the marriage between the song and visuals found new meanings. It’s projects like these I’m most scared to collaborate on. Just me and the camera, no crew, no one telling me about how much energy to give or where in frame I need to be moving around. It’s personal and it’s terrifying because it shows my deepest insecurities. This, however, was exactly the reason I wanted to do it. For me, this song is about accepting that we are amazing as we are and overcoming the challenges we place upon ourselves daily.” – Jacob Edmonds – Director, Editor, Performer, Filmographer

Raised in a Filipino household where karaoke was family religion, Benjamin was constantly surrounded by music. At the age of 12, he wiped off the dust from his father’s guitar and spent the majority of his childhood writing songs in his bedroom. He continued to study music into his tertiary years and was mentored by singer/songwriter Ainslie Wills and Killing Heidi’s Jesse Hooper, which has led to him releasing and performing his songs locally and now globally online.

The last few months have been tough for everyone, including those in electronic music. Clubs have closed and thousands are left without work. Yet we believe there is hope, and ways of adapting. In some ways, adaptation was already at the heart of CARAVAN SERAI, the passion-project we had been working on for nearly a year and were due to launch in May in Ibiza and Mykonos. The Caravan Serai was a roadside inn where travellers (caravaners) could rest and recover from the day's journey. Caravan Serais supported the flow of commerce, information and people across Asia, North Africa and Southeast Europe, most notably along the old Silk Road. Most trade routes back in the day, weren’t so much about making the safest choices, but rather about exploration and connecting the Old World with the many new worlds, then unknown to men. In a similar way the concept of Caravan Serai is not so much about co-founders and residents CJ Jeff and Gonçalo bringing their show to town as an isolated event, but more about breaking boundaries and creating new connections between artists in different places.  With Caravan Serai, CJ Jeff and Gonçalo are moving from one Caravan Serai to the next, traveling the Old Silk Road and spreading good music, first stop Ibiza… If you are already on the island, please join us for the opening night on the 23rd July 2020 at Las Dalias Ibiza. Home of the legendary hippy market, Las Dalias has been on the Ibiza scene since 1954, delighting all that go there. The iconic venue remains one of the island's principal meeting points for Ibiza's free-spirited souls.  Following the new ways of operating, the venue will only be accessible to prearranged seated reservations and will operate at a reduced capacity in accordance with social distancing guidelines. Eelke Kleijn keeps on treating his fans with brand new tracks, in anticipation of his long-awaited fourth studio album ‘Oscillations’ out September 25th. Releasing another masterpiece, ‘Woodstock’ is a track that takes Kleijn’s ingenuity to a whole other level.

A mesmerizing loop is completed by mystical strings and an angel-like topline. The elevating and celestial synths accelerate the transcendent rhythm of the track, building up to an exhilarating ending.

The track was inspired by the Dutch beach club bearing the same name, a very special place for the Dutch DJ and producer. ‘The best memories for me were always the intimate afterparties that would happen inside the venue. When the music is turned down after 11PM, everyone moves inside for one extra hour. Those moments were the best! But also as a DJ, it is such a joy to play there. Looking out over the crowd and the beach and sunset, the magic always sets in after 9 or 10 when it starts to get dark. The crowd is one of the best in the world, I don’t think there is another place quite like it!’ says Eelke.

‘Woodstock’ is part of a larger EP comprising many remixes of the original track which will be released in the weeks following the release. With Eelke shaping ‘Woodstock’ with his own signature sound, other resident DJs of the beach club put their own spin on Eelke’s original. This resulted in two remixes by Gerd Jansen: Tent 7 Remix and the chilled out Zeeweg 94 Remix, and another interpretation by Mano Le Tough. Hernan Cattaneo and his studio partner Soundexile also remixed the track by delivering a late-night take on Kleijn’s ‘Woodstock’.

To celebrate this special release, Eelke recorded an exclusive live set at the beach club. The set will be livestreamed on Eelke Kleijn’s platforms on July 26th. Be sure to tune in on Eelke’s channels for a spectacular sunset show.

‘Woodstock’ is out now on DAYS like NIGHTS

About Eelke Kleijn

Three albums into a well established, yet still rapidly ascending career, Kleijn is an artist very much in his element. In the grand scheme of things, he’s an underground artist, but one who has effortlessly made the jump into the wider world when the time and opportunity have felt right. With a background playing piano, guitar, and bass and a healthy sideline in composing for film and TV, his productions are imbued with a deep sense of musicality and emotion. Remixing for the likes of John Legend, Pendulum, James Newton Howard & Jennifer Lawrence, and scoring Hollywood blockbusters like Rush, Parker, and This Means War, Eelke Kleijn really excels in everything he sets his mind to. His latest artist album ‘Moments Of Clarity’ is the apex of his work so far, combining deep house and techno in perfect harmony. His multi-faceted platform ‘DAYS like NIGHTS’ emcompasses a label, a radio show, a podcast, and spectacular parties, firmly establishing him as one of the scene’s most creative and pioneering producers.

FUTURE ISLANDS Return with new single & video 'For Sure'

‘For Sure’

Perish the pain
I was impoverished

Those ties that wind

And stared into open lanes

Stared into long long nights

Howling and still

West of the Eastern Cove

Carving the wind
Dawn of your eyes
Dust off your smile

——

When you say ‘us’

You make me trust

——

I will never keep you from an open door

I know, you know

That’s how much I feel in everything you are

You know, I know

——

Hot as the day
When we sat on stones

Watching the fish, run

Under our feet, and flow

And dove from the rocks

Scraping my knees and toes

And blood, with me, rose

Slow from the sea

And you were waiting for me

Waiting for me
Waiting for me
Waiting for me

You were waiting for me

——-
It’s just how much

When you say ’us’
You don’t know just how much

You make me trust

——-

I will never keep you from an open door

I know, you know

That’s how much I feel in everything you are

I know, I know

FRIENDSHIPS Releases new single & video ‘MLG_recovery patch’

PRAISE FOR FRIENDSHIPS – NULLABOR 1988-1989

Winner AIR Independent Music Awards – Best Independent Dance/Electronica Album

Triple R Album of the Week
FBi Click Feature Album
PBS Feature Album
Edge Radio Feature Album

“Amid the fury of beats, breaks and fastidious production they find space to inject great helpings of heart, art, beauty and risk. And when the bass hits, it hits hard.” – The Guardian

“Misha’s projections and paintings combined with Nic’s productions to form intricate installations and hyperkinetic live shows. Expressionism and rave, internet art and drum n bass, regional dance music styles and Australian gothic ideas all intersect. The results are personal, universal, beautiful, brutal, expansive and immersive” – Triple R

“Chaotic future sounds” – Herald Sun, 4 Stars

“One of the most vital tracks of the year” – Song Of The Year, Tone Deaf

Dot Dash Recordings are pleased to share experimental audiovisual duo friendships have returned with new single ‘MLG_recovery patch.’ This is the first piece of new work from the pair since their 2016 critically acclaimed album Nullarbor 1988-1989.

‘MLG_recovery patch’ presents a sonic and visual shift for the band. Beginning with a somber piano soundscape, the track warps and becomes interlaced with their dark, pulsing industrial sound. Throughout the video, dark visuals morph, glitch and loop back on one another.
friendships‘ combines Misha Grace’s visual art and Nic Brown’s songwriting in their respective mediums together.  Debut album Nullarbor was named Album of the Week on 3RRR, PBS, RTR, and FBi, winning Best Independent Dance/Electronica Album at the 2017 AIR Awards, leading to tours with Erykah Badu, Thundercat, a boundless festival run including SXSW, CMJ, Meredith Music Festival, Melbourne Music Week and a tour of China. But ultimately, things didn’t last.

After a show at the end of 2017, they quietly went their own ways. Having spent the previous few years talking every day, they’d suddenly gone eight months without talking at all.

They came back together by chance at a mutual friend’s house. Suddenly they were talking again, telling each other about what they’d been working on for the past eight months. Separately, both had been working through their issues through their art. Where in the past they might’ve created for each other, to complement the other’s work, their time in isolation had them seeking catharsis only for themselves. And yet when Grace showed Brown a video she’d composed, he put a track he’d written underneath it. They complemented each other perfectly.

Danny Serrano is an artist who’s been on the top of his game for some time now. A Madrid man who’s repped the likes of Circus, Saved Records, Truesoul and more, he’s an individual who commands a deep respect in the tech house world. Alongside names like Wally Lopez, he’s also recognised as being one of Spain’s best exponents of a groovy, tech laden sound. Aside from the labels he’s worked with, Serrano also runs his own label — the brilliant Serrano’s Kitchen, which of course, is also the name of his famous studio in Madrid. It’s in Madrid where he crafted his latest work, the exceptional Craft, which just hit shops recently. An interesting time to release an album it may be, but then Danny Serrano has never been one for conventional. We caught up with Danny just as the album dropped to talk about his 2020 so far, the Madrid scene — and much more besides…  How was your lockdown period? And what was it you found most challenging about it all? It is a really strange situation for everyone, I think no one would have ever imagined living something like this in life.  Are you worried about the future of live musicians? Or are you confident things will go back to as they were? Or maybe go more ‘underground’? I think everything will go back to the way it was before, I thought our industry was going to change but I think when a vaccine is found I am sure everything will go back to the way it was before. I hope so anyway!  What do you think this all spells for the scene in Madrid?  The scene in Madrid is quite difficult at the moment, the big clubs are closed for now so it’s hard to say. I guess it’s a global issue as much as a Spanish one, but without government support it’s hard to say what’s going to happen.  Can you tell us a bit about your some of your favourite clubbing memories down through the years?  I have great memories of Space Ibiza, Space of Sound in Madrid and also Ushuaia Ibiza. Space Ibiza was one of the best clubs I have ever played, this place was magical and special for me. I wish I could go back tomorrow!  Do you ever get to go out as a clubber these days? Who was the last DJ to really impress you in that regard? Of course I have not gone out during this quarantine, I have been at home with my family. But there are several DJ’ that I admire… but if I had to pick one, I’d perhaps say Loco Says… his set in Fabrik in Madrid was simply amazing!! You’ve been busy recently putting out your new album. Was there a time when you considered delaying it with everything that’s going on?  The truth is that I have thought about not publishing it ... we are living a strange moment with the music ... but in the end I decided that I wanted to publish this album in my brand Serrano's Kitchen. This album is special to me. Have you had to think of more imaginative ways to earn a living? Or do you have other gigs lined up for other periods in the year? I currently work in my recording studios Serrano’s Kitchen as a mixing studio engineer and master for other major artists and labels. Thanks to that I am surviving this pandemic but I miss not playing in clubs and festivals.  How have your goals and dreams changed since the start of this year? Has staying positive been an issue for you at all? My vision of the music sector and industry has changed for sure. Now I am focused on my Serrano's Kitchen study and academy project.  I am very happy working as a mix engineer and master for other labels, artists and bands so let’s see where I go with that.  Can you tell us a bit about Craft and the production process behind it all? How does this project differ to things you have done before?  "Craft" is a more personal sound, I was a bit bored of working in the studio and always making the same sound, I wanted to do something different ... and Craft is the result of all this. I hope you all enjoy it! On a personal level -- and music aside -- what’s keeping you excited at the moment? As I have previously commented, my Serrano's Kitchen project is the most important thing for me at the moment, our studies and music academy is a fundamental part of my life and surely in my career for the future, when I'm locked up I escape from the world and I don't think about the problems …!  Can you talk us through three pieces of art (music, books, art etc) that worked for you over the past few months? Music from the Beatles, Michael Jackson or Queen are a constant reference for me. How was your lockdown period? And what was it you found most challenging about it all?

It is a really strange situation for everyone, I think no one would have ever imagined living something like this in life.

Are you worried about the future of live musicians? Or are you confident things will go back to as they were? Or maybe go more ‘underground’?

I think everything will go back to the way it was before, I thought our industry was going to change but I think when a vaccine is found I am sure everything will go back to the way it was before. I hope so anyway!

Cian Ciaran ft. She Drew The Gun: Keep The Darkness Out Strangetown Records From the forthcoming album: Hero Leader God Never known to pull political punches as individuals, the unbowed voices of Cian Ciarán and She Drew The Gun’s Louisa Roach combine, as pantomime turns from farce to tragedy in the hands of politicians, to release Keep The Darkness Out on Strangetown Records. The electro-dabbling fifth of Super Furry Animals, Ciarán wires into a broad palette of mood-altering beats, while Roach dashes resonant words across the free-range, undulating, sonic textures. A matter of survival, Roach’s words throw shade at the world’s dangerous forces of divisive politics, war and religion (How do we treat this angry child? Who hates his sisters who wants them blind?), while delivering the most profound warning that it’s the words and pictures of artists, authors and musicians which present the most potent forms of counter-attack. In the sense of ‘keeping the darkness out’, Roach reaches for the pages of books, the brush and the pen to keep distant the tense bubbles of social media, 24-hour news cycles and reality-warping influencers. Keep The Darkness Out is the latest track to be revealed as part of Hero Leader God, a long-term project set for Winter 2020 release as a finished album, matching Ciarán’s diverse musical ideas with admired songwriters and wordsmiths, each sharing his desire for change. Other collaborators have included Steve Mason and Stephen Morrison-Burke. Combining 25 years as a Super Furry Animal with solo projects and broader cultural initiatives, not limited to acclaimed albums (Outside In, 2012 and They Are Nothing Without Us, 2015), but orchestral scores (Rhys a Meinir with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales), installation and film, Ciarán is renowned as a happy studio adventurer. His restless investigations into electronic music, as well as a lifelong love of house music, added swathes of bleep, drone and squelch to a catalogue of adored Furries classics. On Keep The Darkness Out those sounds provide ballast to every word, while creating a purposeful sense of unease. Cian says: “Nothing ever seems to change, and that’s the problem. Pulling together the collaborations for Hero Leader God, not least the brilliant lines from Louisa for Keep The Darkness Out, is one way of expressing the frustrations some of us feel with the power that hangs over us. That power is, to some degree, a delusion, but a falsehood that will only be exposed by people realising their individual sense of power. If music changes one person’s mind from resignation to hope, then it’s worth it.” Louisa says: “It isn’t hard to find the words to express disappointment and anger sometimes, but it can be a challenge to express the other side of the coin, that we’re still free to read, write and sing to a world that ‘they’ will never really understand. It’s for us, not them. Perhaps that’s what scares them the most, it’s worth holding on to that thought.” Released on Ciarán and fellow Furry, Dafydd Ieuan’s Strangetown Records, Keep The Darkness Out was recorded between Cardiff, Wales and Liverpool, England. More music from Hero Leader God is scheduled to appear in a monthly cycle, leading to the full physical and digital release in late 2020.

If music changes one person’s mind from resignation to hope, then it’s worth it.”

Louisa says: “It isn’t hard to find the words to express disappointment and anger sometimes, but it can be a challenge to express the other side of the coin, that we’re still free to read, write and sing to a world that ‘they’ will never really understand. It’s for us, not them. Perhaps that’s what scares them the most, it’s worth holding on to that thought.”

Released on Ciarán and fellow Furry, Dafydd Ieuan’s Strangetown Records, Keep The Darkness Out was recorded between Cardiff, Wales and Liverpool, England. More music from Hero Leader God is scheduled to appear in a monthly cycle, leading to the full physical and digital release in late 2020.

Where are you currently based?  Rochester, NY How did you first start playing music?  My parents are both musicians so it was always around me and some of my first memories are at shows their shows. I think I realized I could sing when I was like maybe 4 and was alone yell-singing Four Non-Blondes’ “What’s Goin On” for 2 hours straight in my bed lol. First show ever, for no one. What's been happening recently? Gearing up to release our new EP, KOPYRIGHT! And also, social distancing.  Your single "U.G.L.Y" is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting for this track? We’ve always loved the idea of creating a song that’s super epic and chanty and has almost a cheerleader esce feel to it- and when we sat down to write Uggo we had that in mind for sure. I was a cheerleader myself (lol) and I wanted to really drive the point home with this one. How did you go about writing "U.G.L.Y."? We worked with producer AWWW who we know personally and have done some co-writing stuff with in the past. I recall we started writing the song in one session that was just two of us and producer, then we all went down to NYC probably a year later and finished the tune as a complete band- that’s when it really came together.  Where and when did you record/produce? NYC, AWWW’s studio space.  What programs/instruments did you use to record/produce? We are mostly an Ableton band. Sometimes Protools depending on who we are working with but definitely one of those. Huge fan of the DECAPITATOR plugin.  How has your COVID-19 experience been so far and how do you think it has affected artists? It’s been pretty shitty since we can’t play shows. Our live show is super important to who we are as a band (we do full band choreography etc.) so time not being able to plan anything around that has been very strange. I’m hoping post EP cycle that some sick new music will come out of it though since we can focus all our energy on that. I think a lot of artists are literally starving because of this- as a fan, definitely get out there and support your artists right now. They need it! Buy shit! What do you like to do away from music? I love to go out and dance, but that’s a huge part of KOPPS as a project as well. Some things totally disconnected from music would be my love of restoring old homes, reading, and doing anything outside in nature.  Who are you listening to at the moment? I’ve been on a Caroline Polachek kick for what seems like months but to be honest, I feel like the BLM movement has taken president over releases as of recently (which is a very good thing) and so I haven’t been consuming as much as usual.  What's planned for the remainder of 2020? Releasing our EP KOPYRIGHT on July 31, hopefully doing some online performances, and then it’s going to be focusing fully on writing for our first full-length album (unless we can suddenly tour during the pandemic, which I doubt.) Favourite food and place to hangout? Cheese in all of its magnificent forms. Mexican food is our fav as a band...& I will hang on any beach, anytime and feel very content.

Belgium techno powerhouse Amelie Lens returns with her third release on her celebrated imprint LENSKE. Hot on the heels of an explosive mix CD on fabric last November, her four-hour Essential Mix on BBC Radio 1 in April (the longest one since 1997) as well as a hit lockdown livestream, she delivers a hard-hitting EP entitled ‘Higher’ featuring her usual propensity for dark sounds and haunting vocals. Due to the current circumstances, she has unfortunately had to put on hold a summer full of festival appearances at the likes of Timewarp, Awakenings, Primavera Sound, Junction 2, Kappa Future, Sonus, and an extended tour with her Exhale curated parties with her own stage at Tomorrowland and OFFSonar, to name a few. This EP showcases Lens’ sound and energy while we wait to dance together again.  On the A side we have the euphoric title track, in which melodic synthwork and familiar vocal inflections echo into the far reaches of a cosmic dance floor. Next is ‘L’Obscurite’, which shocks with an hypnotic pulse, combining an appetite for the mystifying with sonic bleeps and booms. On the B side features an emotive sub-bass rework of ‘Higher’ by Berlin’s techno boyband FJAAK, swindling a multi-layered rave version. For the hungry ravers, this will be a fiery treat for the ears.  All tracks written & produced by Amelie Lens B remixed by FJAAK Mastered by Conor Dalton Cat. YOURS TRULY ANNOUNCE DEBUT ALBUM ‘SELF CARE’ + REVEAL NEW SINGLE ‘TOGETHER’ FULL ALBUM OUT SEPTEMBER 18 VIA UNFD

by the partae July 7, 2020

Australian pop-punk favourites Yours Truly have announced their debut album ‘Self Care’ will be released on Friday September 18, and revealed their latest single ‘Together’ today. After premiering via triple j‘s Good Nights on Monday night, ‘Together’ follows the band’s acclaimed recent single ‘Composure’ which continues to garner worldwide airplay at the likes of BBC R1, Kerrang! Radio, idobi, Music Choice and triple j/Unearthed.

After only a short few years on the scene – and out of high school for that matter – Yours Truly have earmarked themselves as one of Australia’s most striking rising stars. With tours alongside Sum 41 & Senses Fail, festival offers from the likes of Download UK, Riot Fest, Slam Dunk & Sad Summer and 8.5+ million streams on their recent EP ‘Afterglow‘ already under their belt, Self Care promises to be another breakout moment for the four-piece.

On new single ‘Together’, vocalist Mikaila Delgado says:

“Together is about feeling the stress and uneasiness of imposter syndrome. I had a lot of fear and anxiety coming into this album, having this expectation to exceed what we did with ‘Afterglow’. I remember telling myself ‘you need to write the best songs of your life’ and getting upset about the possibility of not being able to prove ourselves. One night I turned to Lachlan (Cronin, guitar) and said ‘I just feel all the colour has been drained from my brain’ and we both looked at each other with wide eyes, and that’s how the idea of ‘Together’ came about.”

About ‘Self Care’

‘Self Care’ finds Yours Truly unravelling the most momentous year of their lives. After the release of ‘Afterglow’ in April 2019, the band found themselves tackling incessant international touring and mounting imposter syndrome. Alongside all the usual challenges faced at 21; uni, retail jobs and breakups, the process of writing their debut album would prove daunting, yet the perfect antidote to the whirlwind they were living.

“There was this almost electric feeling of excitement about getting to sit down and write our first record but also a huge feeling of anxiety at the same time,” reflects vocalist Mikaila Delgado. “We didn’t want to release something and have people say that we’re actually not that good and weren’t worthy of all the success we were getting… it was like we all had imposter syndrome.”

The record’s namesake embodies the crux of what the album meant for the four-piece during their rapid ascension – a healing process, an overcoming of doubt – and would hopefully offer to its listeners.

“We really learnt and lived a lot in one year, and writing these songs allowed me to understand myself on a whole new level throughout it all,” Mikaila adds.

“The experience was a true form of self-care that ended with me feeling stronger, smarter, enlightened and positive after a rollercoaster of emotions. For me, this album was my version of soaking in vanilla candles and that comforting taste of chocolate and red wine under blankets. We hope it brings solace to whoever listens to it and can relate too.”

Yours Truly is

Lachlan Cronin (guitar)

GLOWAL’s ‘Roda’ undergoes remix treatment from Musumeci, MUYLA on Sapiens

written by the partae

Agoria’s tastemaking Sapiens label returns with a fresh new EP that finds Mulya and Musumeci serve up remixes of Glowal’s ‘Roda’ from 2019, while a new Sweet Mix is also included in this fine trio of tracks.

Glowal is the duo of Italian producers Fabio Giannelli and Alessandro Gasperini, and in just 18 months they have turned out huge releases on Innervisions, Diynamic, TAU, Sapiens and many more. They have also played across Europe, India and the Middle East, went straight into the the No.1 position on Beatport’s Indie Dance charts with their single for Diynamic and merge stirring atmospherics, contagious rhythms and emotive vocals to create a unique sonic identity.

Hungarian artist Mulya goes first and again shows his ability to create vibes which really make their mark having done so on the likes of Multinotes and Monaberry before now. He reworks that track into tense and high pressure rolling house track with lush melodies and tight drums. The vocals ring out up top with a real sense of soul and the whole thing builds towards a great crescendo. It’s majestic and emotive from start to finish so sure to cast a real spell on the floor.

Next comes a Sweet Mix that is laced with indie guitars and shimmering vocal effects. The sweeping track lifts you off your feet and keeps you in a trance thanks to its glowing pads.

Last of all, Musumeci steps up. He is a Sicilian artist with 20 years experience on labels like Innervisison and Connaisseur and here serves up a driving cut with disco tinged arps and synth sequences layered over warm, rubbery drums. It’s a track that reaches for the skies and glides smoothly into the future.

This is a fantastic package that brings new life to this vital track on Sapiens.
