Paige Valentine reveals stunning minimalist video performance of her new track ‘Fool’ directed by Perth filmmaker, Luna Laure + WA launch shows

“Another exceptional release from an artist whose career is just beginning to take off.”
– Rolling Stone, Tyler Jenke“As a word of caution, we highly recommend that you sit down and listen to this track because ‘Fool’ will drop you to your knees with its beautiful and raw emotion. As ’70s soft-rock flourishes fill the air and create a dreamscape, Valentine’s stunning vocals leave us in complete awe. Her delicate delivery draws us inside her mind, where she reflects on a relationship that is fraying at the seams. As her voice softly intensifies, our knees buckle as her pain and doubt overwhelm us.” – The Revue

“It’s got this candle flame appeal as it burns slowly, flickers and eventually warms the whole room.” – Declan Byrne, triple j unearthed

“Valentine’s sophisticated and poetic song writing makes her a stand-out artist to keep a close eye on.” – Livewire AU

Last month, Perth based musician and wide-eyed dreamer Paige Valentine dropped her latest gut-wrenching single ‘Fool’ on unsuspecting hearts across the nation, earning a slew of praise from fans and industry alike. 2020’s proclaimed one-to-watch had already made waves with her lush debut single ‘Pure’, and her recent sister single only propelled Paige Valentine forward as a rising artist of Perth’s flourishing indie scene. Now, Paige is excited to reveal the stunning visual accompaniment to ‘Fool’ and give a glimpse of her captivating live presence in a new video filmed inside Fremantle’s stunning Naval store with local filmmaker, Luna Laure.

“Fool is the second opus of my collaboration with Paige. For this one, we wanted to explore showcasing Paige’s performative skills where her bravado and charisma shine bright on screen. Keeping the concept simple, we move around Paige in a dance of cat and mouse to finally reveal the space and decor. A real behind-the-scenes look at where musicians and filmmakers finally stand bare.” – Luna Laure, Director and Producer

“Fool was written as a continuation from Pure, I loved working with Laure to create the imagery for the first single and knew we could further develop something really sincere, powerful and vulnerable for Fool. Our main focus was to do something really stripped back that made the song the star.” – Paige Valentine

Written with collaborator Dylan Ollivierre, mixed by Myles Wootton and mastered by Greg Calbi, as a metaphor, ‘Fool’s tale of ascending from heartache and desperation is fitting of the world into which it is born. While the rest of the planet is still in lockdown, Paige’s home of Western Australia has already emerged on the other side of the tunnel, more or less unscathed. Live music has returned and with it, people are again able to bask in the electricity of being in an audience. As much as ‘Pure’ was Paige’s bookmark for isolation and lockdown, ‘Fool’ is the anthem of her emancipation from it and Paige is now preparing for her upcoming run of WA shows and her performance at Nannup Music Festival in 2021.

INTRODUCING DUBLIN’S FOR THOSE I LOVE LISTEN TO NEW OVERMONO REMIX OF ‘I HAVE A LOVE’

FOR THOSE I LOVE EARLY PRAISE

“His debut single I Have a Love, a tribute to a dead friend, is reminiscent of the Streets’ night bus poetry, and tracks from an album later in the year nod to other moodily rave-adjacent artists such as Massive Attack, Mount Kimbie and Burial.”
The Guardian

“For Those I Love fights for the underdog… raw and uncompromising electronic music that taps into both deeply personal trauma and wider societal ills for influence.”
The FADER

“One of the most stunning, evocative and compelling emotions in the world for any artist to display is vulnerability. It’s easy to do bravado, it’s easy to be self-deprecating, it’s easy to be “Ah sure look”. But vulnerability? Something else entirely.”
RTE

Today, Irish singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and visual artist For Those I Love, born David Balfe, shares a remix of his debut single ‘I Have a Love‘. Reworked by XL-signed brothers Tom and Ed Russell, better known as the electronic duo Overmono, the remix gets a jolt of shimmering techno that intensifies as the song comes to a soft and poetic finale. Listen HERE, watch HERE.

The remix follows the track’s moving self-directed visual, his second single ‘Top Scheme‘ which also received a video directed by Balfe, and his powerful debut performance on Later…with Jools Holland. Watch it HERE.

Balfe first began work on For Those I Love as a chance to write frankly about the struggles he and his friends faced while growing up in north Dublin. Anecdotally and otherwise, the project documents the harsh realities of daily life up against it and holds a mirror up to the clear disparity between a working-class upbringing and the lack of opportunity that remains to this day.

At its core, the forthcoming album pays tribute to Balfe’s best friend and former bandmate, Paul Curran, who passed away in 2018. Following Paul’s tragic death, Balfe locked himself away in his home studio for months, ultimately recording over 76 songs that would eventually be condensed down to form the basis of his debut album. The result is an incredibly beautiful, raw, and uncompromising 9-track project addressing grief and catharsis, an important record that could only emerge from an entirely honest place.

The self-titled debut album from For Those I Love will arrive early next year on September Recordings and arrives after the release of the mix, Into A World That Doesn’t Understand It, Unless You’re From It, which showcased unreleased tracks, ideas, and demos that didn’t fit onto the album and sold out of its limited tape run in only hours. Stay tuned for more from For Those I Love coming soon.

‘I Have a Love’ (Overmono Remix) is out now, buy/stream it here.

INTRODUCING 700 FEEL LISTEN TO DEBUT ‘T1 WESTERN’ / ‘BACK 2 THE AREA’

by the partae November 20, 2020
written by the partae

Introducing 700 Feel, a Sydney-based electronic duo who today share their debut release ‘T1 Western’ / ‘Back 2 The Area’. Listen HERE, watch HERE.

Comprised of Jonny Hawkins and Juan Villamor, 700 Feel bring together UK garage, hip hop, dub, and house with subtle shadings of footwork and jazz interspersed throughout. Together, they channel the organic electronica of Four Tet, the shuffling production of Jamie xx and Nicolás Jaar’s ability to move from ambient soundscapes to bass-heavy club beats and back again. Enveloping a diverse range of influences, the sound is united by the duo’s appreciation for genres and styles which are deeply rooted in the places and communities which birthed them. Threading together London, Chicago, Kingston, Bristol, and Western Sydney, these musical threads all come together in the meeting point of 700 Feel.

Like their musical influences, the duo behind 700 Feel are themselves the product of global movement and cultural interconnectedness. Hawkins, who grew up in the UK in Ipswich, and Villamor, who was raised in North Carolina, were initially introduced through Juan’s brother, Jose, a high school classmate of Jonny’s. The two began making music together for fun, fusing their individual influences without a clear image of what form their art would eventually take. Instead, they let themselves be guided by feeling, pushing their music to reach a blissful, transportative state that’s as human as it is synthetic, equally at home in the headphones as it is in the club.

Despite possessing a sound pieced together from around the globe, the duo aims to ground the 700 Feel project very firmly in their Australian roots of Western Sydney. Energised by community and collectivism, they find inspiration in their surroundings and the people and stories that populate the city, with their debut AA-side centered on that feeling of coming home. Filtered through the perspectives of two migrant kids growing up on the outskirts of Sydney, 700 Feel is an authentic, affectionate homage to the melting pot of the area, the kind of exchange of ideas and culture that could’ve only happened there.

‘T1 Western‘ / ‘Back 2 The Area‘ is out now,

BOB EVANS ANNOUNCES NEW SINGLE AND VIDEO ‘BORN YESTERDAY’

by the partae November 20, 2020
written by the partae

Artwork credit: Carl Breitkreuz

Dearly loved Australian singer songwriter, Bob Evans has today announced his new single Born Yesterday, a gorgeous, nostalgia-soaked rambler of a track, out today, Novermber 19.  Born Yesterday is also accompanied by a beautiful, glowing video clip which serves as an ode to touring during a year where it was impossible.  Bob Evans, the ARIA-winning alter ego of Jebediah frontman Kevin Mitchell, has graced the Australian music scene for more than two decades and has written some of the country’s most beloved songs and Born Yesterday will not disappoint his loyal audience.

Born Yesterday is perfect for that classic Aussie drive to the beach – it feels like summer holidays.  Glistening guitars spread luxuriously as Mitchell’s idiosyncratic vocal hits those brilliant notes in the hook-laden chorus – then the track hits unprecedented highs with a killer sax solo right in the middle of the song.  Produced by Steven Schram (Paul Kelly, Kate Miller-Heidke), Born Yesterday is a stunning addition to the Bob Evans discography, as Mitchell explains the inspiration behind the song, “I was backstage at a Jebediah gig when an old housemate from Perth messaged me with a link to our old share house we lived in that was for sale.  We couldn’t believe it when looking through the photos of the house that it hadn’t changed at all since we lived there in the late 90’s.  What followed was a slew of messaging between us, as well as the other two friends I used to live with in that house.  It was my first share house after leaving home and the whole exchange between us and seeing the house again just brought back a lot of great memories from that time and age, my late teens and early twenties.  I already had the music for the song pretty much written at that stage so all I needed was the lyric to go with it.  It’s a deeply nostalgic song for me, looking back at a stage of my life that feels so long ago now, but at the time it felt like it would last forever.”

The clip for Born Yesterday captures this nostalgia flawlessly.  Shot as though on a vintage super 8 camera, the viewer follows the Bob Evans touring party through gigs, travel, and recording, as the handwritten lyrics fade in and out as the melodies pass.  It’s a perfect reflection of the mood of the song, as Mitchell describes, “My friend Arlo Cook has been taking footage of me at shows and in the studio for years and he came in to the studio while we were recording and took footage, not with anything in particular in mind.  I knew the song would really suit a more abstract kind of video, because it’s about memories, so lots of home made visual snapshots was how I imagined it and then as COVID happened and lockdowns happened, it became more and more obvious that we should make that kind of video.  So it mixes footage from the last few years with footage from during lockdown.  There’s even a couple of seconds of my two kids at the beach in there as well.  It will forever be a document of this strange year we’ve lived through, which I’m really happy to have captured.”

Born Yesterday is out now via Dew Process.

HACKTIVIST UNLEASH NEW SINGLE + VIDEO 'ARMOURED CORE' ft. KID BOOKIE NEW ALBUM CONFIRMED FOR 2021

HACKTIVIST UNLEASH NEW SINGLE + VIDEO ‘ARMOURED CORE’ ft. KID BOOKIE NEW ALBUM CONFIRMED FOR 2021

by the partae November 20, 2020
written by the partae

After premiering via BBC R1 this week, UK grime-metal quintet HACKTIVIST have released a video for new single ‘Armoured Core’ today. The band teamed up with rising artist Kid Bookie on the track, following his recent collaboration with Corey Taylor, as ‘Armoured Core’ marks the beginning of an exhilarating chapter for the five-piece.

On the single, co-vocalist J. Hurley comments: “It’s like a shield against anyone attacking us. Anyone can say anything they want, but you can’t get through the armoured core! Talk shit if you want, but it ain’t gonna affect us. I listen to a lot of other rappers and I know that my lyrics are strong. I know that no-one can fuck with this.”

“This is a song for anyone who is going through a hard time and needs building up. It’s motivational. It makes you feel like, ‘Nothing can touch me, I can do this’, but it’s personal to Hacktivist as well,” adds co-vocalist Jot Maxi. “With what we’ve been through, a lot of other bands might have broken up, but we’re back with this new record and a new dynamic, which even I think is great and I’m super self-critical. As long as you’re alive and still breathing, your core is armoured and protected by something. This song is a reminder to stay strong.”

Kid Bookie concludes: “Glad to be working with the boys, man! When you have an eclectic bunch pushing a sound I love forward, why the FUCK would I never want to share some sonic space with a bunch of beautiful, sexy, iconic men?! Fuck the free world, HACKTIVIST up in this bitch.”

Question everything. Consider your sources. Be wary of ulterior motives, insidious media narratives and even your own unconscious bias. Trust sparingly and try to make smart, informed choices. As the world slides further into ruin at the behest of old, rich white men ruling with catastrophic, zero-sum thinking, it’s more important than ever to be vigilant and fight back against the forces that be who seem hell-bent on creating a dystopian future for us all.

Luckily, HACKTIVIST are back to help cut through the noise and bullshit, tooled-up and ready to attack with renewed vigour and reinforced ranks; with Jot Maxi and J. Hurley now sharing the vocal and lyrical load, drummer Rich Hawking and bassist Josh Gurner bringing the beats and rhythms, and guitarist and production don James Hewitt fleshing out the group’s genre-fluid muscle. With a brand new album in the works, scheduled for release in 2021, Hewitt played a very active role in HACKTIVIST’s writing and recording process, bringing a new and compelling dynamic to the table.

When HACKTIVIST initially set sights on their enemies with their 2016 debut album Outside The Box, the world wasn’t fully equipped to heed their warnings and pay attention to its timely rallying cries. They return into a very different one, however – a world that’s sadly now all-too-finely-attuned to the horrors they first forecasted four years ago. In the wake of a global pandemic that has sharpened collective senses and exposed the systematic flaws across society, these should be times primed and ready for the truth-bombs that HACKTIVIST are about to drop. But recent hardships only amplify the band’s messages – these dispatches from the edge were written way before a virus brought humanity to its knees.

Keep your eyes peeled for more news on HACKTIVIST soon.

LUCA BRASI ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM + DELIVER NEW SINGLE ‘EVERY TIME YOU’RE HERE (I’M GONE)’ EVERYTHING IS TENUOUS – OUT FEB 12

by the partae November 20, 2020
written by the partae

Tassie legends Luca Brasi have gifted us with a fresh new single ‘Every Time You’re Here (I’m Gone)’, lifted from their fifth album, Everything is Tenuous, out February 12 via Cooking Vinyl Australia.

Everything is Tenuous is a natural progression from 2018’s breakthrough ARIA nominated album Stay, which soared to #10 on the ARIA chart and catalysed the biggest tours of their career. Uplifting, powerful and sophisticated, Everything is Tenuous is the Luca Brasi record fans have been pining for.

The album’s next single ‘Every Time You’re Here (I’m Gone)’ is another top shelf Luca Brasi number that hugs the soul and doesn’t let go. A stirring ode to the most important people in life, ‘Every Time You’re Here (I’m Gone)’ is a timely reminder that life flashes by fast, so stop and let them know how vital they are, no matter how difficult it is.

Frontman Tyler Richardson explains: “Using songs is a great way to get it out there, stuff that is hard to say, but that you always mean to. I owe my friends and my partner Alix the world, I don’t think you could ever properly explain what people mean, but ‘Every Time You’re Here’ is an attempt to do so. I owe them the world, here’s an attempt to let them know.

“A lot of the record is about the fragility of life, I’ve been thinking about how a lot of things stay, a lot change, and a lot just completely disappear. I don’t necessarily think any of the above is bad, there’s zero you can do to change it, but all the same, it’s on my brain a lot. Everything really is tenuous and sometimes a lifetime feels like a lifetime, sometimes a lifetime feels like a second.”

Luca Brasi have reached a new level with their fifth album, Everything is Tenuous. Propelled by the inactivity of COVID lockdown and encouraged by friends, the four-piece took their first foray into self-recording. After buying a bunch of gear and teaching themselves how to use it, Luca Brasi also self-produced the album with a little help from Darren Cordeux (Kisschasy) before shipping it off to the mainland to be mixed by Grammy-nominated engineer Andrei Eremin (Tash Sultana/Chet Faker).

Empowered by their time at the helm, Luca Brasi have written their most potent songs to date. Already spawning three other beautiful singles in ‘Tangled; Content’, ‘This Selfish Love’ and ‘Dying To Feel Alive’, Everything is Tenuous is trademark Luca Brasi – sweetly melodic with a lyrical undertone of melancholia as the band wrestles with losing mates, regret and burnout while also serving a reminder that life is fragile and fleeting, so take a moment to appreciate what matters.

The charity fundraiser includes the almighty Sasha playing from an iconic Ibiza location, Carl Cox sharing a Set For Love from Australia and Detroit techno pioneer Kevin Saunderson bringing a world exclusive of his new project, “The Saundersons”.  Kevin will be playing back to back with his sons “The Saunderson Brothers” with his wife Ann Saunderson performing vocals.

Kevin said, “This is what music is all about, bringing people together for the greater good.  I’m looking forward to playing alongside Carl Cox, Sasha and my musical family again, all the way from Detroit.”

Carl Cox said, “I’m happy to play a Set For Love for World Children’s Day on Beatport. Please check us out this Friday 20th November and support the cause, it’s going to change a child’s life forever and all the while having fun with the music we’re playing. Let’s make this one the biggest it can possibly be!”

Sasha said, “I’m happy to support this great cause with a Set For Love.  It feels good to see music bring people together, especially after the tough year everyone has had.  You can catch my set this weekend alongside Carl Cox and Kevin Saunderson.”

Funds raised will go to support grassroots projects in developing countries including Tanzania, Uganda, The Philippines and Nepal. These projects are focussed on creating a sustainable future for children, young people and their families and will be delivering food and water, education, safety and trauma rehabilitation.

So far, more than 700 DJs from over 50 countries have registered to play their own Set For Love during the weekend and will be participating in what is potentially the world’s largest simultaneous livestream event.  DJs of all abilities are invited to get involved and can register to play their Set For Love at www.setforlove.org. Donations can also be made through that link.

Participants are reaching out to their followers, friends and families to ask for donations, helping LNADJ demonstrate that the power of music really can make a difference to the lives of those who need it the most.

This will be the third Set For Love event organised by LNADJ and organisers are hoping it will be the biggest one yet. The previous two held earlier in the year raised over £80,000.  These funds, raised for the charity’s Covid-19 Relief Appeal, provided food, water and medical supplies to vulnerable communities in developing countries.

Industry heavyweights including Beatport, Pioneer DJ, Bop DJ, Point Blank, Digital DJ Tips, Funktion One, Mixmasters, Plug In Boutique, Loopcloud and Izotope have teamed up to support the global event.

JUNE JONES Announces new album Leafcutter out February 19, 2021 Shares new single & video ‘Therapy’

by the partae November 18, 2020

Praise for June Jones

“Stunning” – The FADER

“Unnerving and beautiful, it’s a strikingly rendered portrait of disaffection…” – The FADER

“The obvious sci-fi influences, the vulnerable and rousing vocals, and the sharp drum-inflected production evoke Caroline Polachek or even Pop 2-era Charli XCX. Jones sits comfortably among a powerful group of musicians who aren’t afraid to employ every stylistic and emotional tool in their arsenal.” – FBi Radio

“Something that the Melbourne artist has crafted wonderfully over the years is her songwriting, and on a song like this – it definitely shows.” – Homegrown Sounds

“Jones’s homemade synthesisers are waxy and warped – drawling around the drum machine as the beat patters and builds like pools of rainwater. The textures are invigorated by silky drips and electronic drapes, while her signature prose is performed in her rich timbre.” – Weirdo Wasteland

“A song that grips your attention from the very first drum fall, a richly detailed and atmospheric arrangement.” – Tone Deaf

A prolific artist and singular voice in the world of Australian music, June Jones today announces her sophomore album Leafcutter set for release on February 19, 2021 on Emotion Punk Records / Remote Control Records. Alongside the announcement comes her new track & video ‘Therapy’, as premiered via Triple R and The FADER respectively. “Combining angular post-punk with immediate, indelible pop songwriting, “Therapy” finds Jones seeking human connection but finding only things: scented candles, dresses, a calculator, a clock.” says  The FADER on the video premiere.

On the track ‘Therapy’ June says, “I wrote ‘Therapy’ after wandering the aisles of K-Mart, looking for some kind of object that would fill the void in my soul that day. In fact, I wrote the song using a pen and notepad that I had just bought there. I wanted to describe the experience of retail therapy in a way that is familiar to me. Growing up a child of consumer capitalism, I have a deep attachment to objects, things, stuff. The song is a reflection on the shopping centre as a place that, for better or worse, can help us find something to momentarily ease our pain. Ironically, I suspect that a lot of the wounds that we are all trying to heal are products of capitalism itself. Alienation from work and society, tenuous access to healthcare, depression, anxiety, sensory overload, exhaustion, and a lack of existential meaning are all common experiences under Western capitalism. I wasn’t trying to write a critique of capitalism with this song, but I also don’t think it’s possible for a piece of art to be apolitical. Musically, I wanted it to be big, beautiful, punchy, and slightly overwhelming.”

About the video, directed by Triana Hernandez, June adds. “We shot the video in my front room at the start of the year, shortly before the pandemic arrived in so-called Australia. I worked with director Triana Hernandez and cinematographer Dyllan Corbett. The two other people in the video are my mum, Tracey, and my dad, Robert. In the clip, my mum removes my makeup and brushes my hair, while my dad removes most of the objects from the background, save for a few candles and plants. Triana and I discussed what kind of things would be in the room, and I put together a selection of items of personal significance in my life, including instruments that I used to make the album, the four records I’ve put out before this one, a butterfly card given to me by my grandma, a selection of plants, medication, books, and other miscellanea. We shot the video at double speed, and it took us a few takes to get the rhythm and timing of the actions right, but my parents were very patient and generous with their time on the day.”

June’s solo debut, 2019’s Diana, received 3RRR Album of the Week and led to a national tour with Seeker Lover Keeper as well as shows with international acts Cate Le Bon, Hand Habits and Colin Self. Despite this being June’s first self-produced record, Leafcutter feels in many ways like a logical sequel to her previous releases, which include two albums with Two Steps on the Water, the self-proclaimed “emotion punk” band she fronted from 2014 to 2018. Like her past albums, Leafcutter is a collection of songs exploring different aspects of her experience as “a deeply emotional trans woman, a lesbian with ADHD,” and her signature vocals – dynamic in their ability to move between syrupy cool and impassioned exclamation – are present as ever at the forefront of this record.

LOSER RETURN WITH NEW SINGLE ‘UPSIDE DOWN’ + VIDEO PREMIERING TONIGHT NEW ALBUM ‘MINDLESS JOY’ NOMINATED FOR AUSTRALIAN MUSIC PRIZE

The follow up to their February debut album Mindless Joy, Melbourne’s LOSER return with new single ‘Upside Down’ today.

With lockdown cancelling their plans to tour Mindless Joy, LOSER brothers Tim and Will Maxwell took to their parents’ garage to build a new home studio from scratch. After coining Restless Noise Studios the duo doubled down, self-recording and producing a new body of work including today’s release. On ‘Upside Down’, the band teamed up with ARIA award winning mixing engineer Anton Hagop, whose work credits include the likes of Silverchair, Powderfinger, Missy Higgins and Birds of Tokyo.

After ‘Upside Down’ premiered via triple j’s Home & Hosed on Monday, today’s official release comes alongside the announce of the official video premiere, happening at 6pm tonight via the Domestic La La youtube channel.

On ‘Upside Down’, Tim Maxwell explains that while their recent album was an introspective exploration on mental health, this track finds LOSER examining the chaos of the world as they see it.

“‘Upside Down’ is about your own personal response to the state of the world. You can either let it consume you, or you can find safety within yourself and watch as the chaos ensues… I guess this is my first political song, I don’t really like to write that way usually but seeing all the news that was shoved down our throats at the time and just being left there to deal with it made me angry,” he shares.

Following the release of Mindless Joy, LOSER performed their album via livestream and were handpicked to support none other than Violent Soho at their sold out Melbourne show in February. Later, mid-year round ups by The Music and Wall Of Sound saw the album classed as one of the Best Of 2020 So Far, meanwhile it recently clocked a nomination for the coveted Australian Music Prize.

LOSER is Tim Maxwell (vocals/guitar), Dragon Maxwell (guitar), Craig Selak (bass), Jake Farrugia (guitar) and Chris Cowburn (drums). ‘Upside Down’ is out now via Domestic La La.

PRAISE FOR ‘MINDLESS JOY’

“A beautiful cross-over of Foo Fighters and Smashing Pumpkins, mixing melancholic guitars with powerfully adamant vocals.”
The Music

“This album has absolutely no lowlights. 9.5/10”
Wall Of Sound

“Mindless Joy harbours a big character, big sound, and even bigger potential for this band to go very, very far. 9/10.”
Hysteria

“There’s something truly remarkable about LOSER’s ability to talk about serious issues while simultaneously making their listeners want to rock out.”

Perth’s Tanaya Harper reveals punchy new track ‘Emma’ and announces IRL WA single launch shows

by the partae November 18, 2020
written by the partae

“There have been some buzz musicians from Perth in the past couple of years. Rest assured Tanaya Harper runs rings around most of them all as both a singer and a songwriter.” – Chris Havercroft, X-Press

Perth’s queen of moody indie rock Tanaya Harper is excited to announce new single ‘Emma’ along with an intimate live performance to a real life audience in her hometown before the year is up. Since releasing her debut EP Some Kinds in 2018 and recent follow up Slow Motion Breakup earlier this year, Tanaya has grown an avid following with her insightful lyricism in the studio and charismatic banter on the stage. Her music resonates with audiences far and wide as she delivers her personal experiences with depression, anxiety and living with bipolar disorder. Now, the rising young artist is thrilled to reveal the next chapter in her songwriting journey with her latest ode to recklessness, ‘Emma’.

Produced by multi-WAM Award-winning producer and engineer Dave Parkin (Jebediah, Abbe May, Spacey Jane) and mastered by William Bowden, ‘Emma’ is a catchy dose of danceable catharsis. Channeling ‘90s indie rock and noughties indie pop, all driven by an edgy garage vibe that packs a punch of present day angst, ‘Emma’ is Tanaya’s first new music since her well-received Slow Motion Breakup EP of this year. Wrapped up in epic riffs and heart pulsing drums, its anthemic sing-along chorus stays with you long after you drop the hairbrush mic.

“Emma is a sad song thinly veiled as a fun song. It’s about a couple months of recklessness I embarked on following a breakup. At the time I felt totally justified in my actions when really, grief and denial were always looming. I was partying pretty hard and having lots of fun with all my friends but once I was alone it would just hit me, all the confusion and unresolved issues and the ‘what ifs?’” – Tanaya Harper

Having supported many admirable musicians, including Alex The Astronaut, Jess Locke and Abbe May, as well as sharing the stage with artists like Stella Donnelly, Lucy Peach and Carla Geneve, plus performing in her bands Bells Rapids and Ghost Care, Tanaya is a true staple of Perth’s live music scene. With a lot of Australia at a live-music standstill in 2020, Western Australian’s can rejoice in the opportunity to see Tanaya Harper live at her upcoming single launch at The Bird, Perth on Friday 20 November with local artists Hannans and Smol Fish supporting, plus a small run of shows in true post-COVID WA touring style. It’s sure to be a special night, so don’t sleep on it.

Gordi Reveals Immersive 3D Live Concert Experience “Buried City” + Nominated For 2 J Awards & ARIA Award + February Aus Dates On Sale

by the partae November 18, 2020
written by the partae
Today Gordi is thrilled to reveal “Buried City”, a one-of-a-kind immersive 3D live album experience featuring performances in 360-degree interactive format.

Filmed at Melbourne’s beautifully restored and multifaceted Le Bon Ton venue during quarantine closure, and re-rendered in 3D for the immersive experience, Gordi worked with award-winning video director and game engine designer, Melbourne-based South African creative, Michael Beets.  Beets (who also directed Gordi’s “Bitter End” 360 video in 2017) has devised a self-contained world built across eight 3D rooms and four 360-degree performance spaces and mapped 2D projections. The experience features bespoke sound design by Gordi as well as a raft of hidden sound bytes, demo recordings, spoken word pieces and background stories to songs.

Reflecting on Buried City, Beets offers “I’m lucky to be able to work with an artist like Gordi who is willing to explore new ways of immersing audiences into musical experiences. Her music is so full of emotion and packed with imagery, that I thought it would be compelling to immerse audiences into that world. As we increasingly embrace virtual worlds, I think albums can become these beautiful and intimate visual experiences.”

The experience features live performances of songs from Gordi’s acclaimed second album Our Two Skins. Recognising the depth, intricacy and beauty of the record, the artist from Canowindra was nominated for two J Awards – triple J Australian Album of the Year, and Double J Australian Artist of the Year.  Gordi reflected on this achievement on her social media.

Topping off the nods from the national broadcaster was a nomination for an ARIA for Best Adult Contemporary Album; sharing the limelight with Australian icons like Nick Cave, Megan Washington and Archie Roach and Josh Pyke.  Payten received the news shortly after finishing her medical locum shifts in Victoria during the COVID outbreak there last month.  She expressed her delight online to her fans.

The 27 year old artist recently took her band on the road for a series of intimate, socially distanced shows around NSW.  triple j captured one of her four sold out shows at Sydney’s The Factory Theatre for Live At The Wireless which aired on Monday night and will be replayed again this coming Sunday.

A number of shows outside NSW have also been rescheduled to February given border restrictions.  The new dates are below with more to be announced soon.

Where are you currently based? Gold Coast, QLD. How did you first start playing music? We all picked up our instruments in our teens and played around in multiple bands before forming this one.  What's been happening recently and how has your Covid experience been so far? Recently, we have been rehearsing constantly in an effort to tighten up our sound for once restrictions lift and we can tour again. We took it as an opportunity to fine tune our live show so that we can be better than we were before.  How did The Silencio form? Originally it was a solo effort from Vocalist/guitarist Jan Nicholas Blom. After playing a few shows here and there I determined that my style was very rhythmic so it would be a benefit to have a rhythm section with me. Once the lineup was solidified, we started pushing the acoustic rock genre into new territory and ended up here.  Your new single 'Apology' is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting? Once our guitarist, Dylan Brann, switched to the electric guitar and started to have more input in writing, this new sound was born and Apology was one of the first tracks written for the new album. As for the message behind the song, a good friend of mine has been battling with transitioning into sobriety for a long time and with the on again/off again nature of his habits I wanted to put into perspective for those out there who have turned their backs how hard it is for him in his situation and attempt to promote more love, forgiveness and understanding towards the situation.  How did you go about writing Apology? Our drummer, Kurt Winter, has a little home studio where we tinker with our ideas until they become full songs. This particular track was born out of the reverse piano sound you can hear during the intro. Dylan had nothing else written but by the end of one session walked away with this track in the bag.  Where and when did you record and who with? We recorded the whole album this time last year with Nik Carpenter at Core Studios on the Gold Coast.  How did you approach the recording process? We had the album fully written and recorded during pre-production months before we got into the studio so that the time spent in there would be productive rather than second guessing ourselves. We like to consider ourselves to be over-organised at times haha.  Please tell us about your experience whilst working with Danny Saber: Danny has been lovely to work with and has ideas that we hadn't considered before which has been important considering we have been mostly self produced up until he got involved. Though, Nik Carpenter had helped us with bits and pieces along the way. Danny has been shaping our arrangements and helping us to understand through his years of knowledge as to how to best position our newer material moving forward to appeal to a wider audience.  Who are you listening to at the moment? We all have varying tastes but recently, I have been listening to a lot of Eden, Greyhaven and Bring Me The Horizon.  What do you like to do away from music? Music is pretty much everything for all of us. Outside of it is only really time for our families and day jobs. Jared owns several restaurants, Dylan is in landscaping and Kurt and I both have office jobs within the building industry. What's planned for the remainder of 2020 going into 2021? We have more music to release and are in the process of approving several music videos being shot to determine which song comes next. With a bit of luck, restrictions will ease and we can take our show on the road! Favourite food and place to hangout? It's no secret to those that know me that the only food that exists is pizza and my favourite place to hang out is in the recording studio.  https://www.instagram.com/the_silencio/ https://www.facebook.com/the_silencio/ https://www.youtube.com/the_silencio/

Where are you currently based?

Gold Coast, QLD.

How did you first start playing music?

We all picked up our instruments in our teens and played around in multiple bands before forming this one.

What’s been happening recently and how has your Covid experience been so far?

Recently, we have been rehearsing constantly in an effort to tighten up our sound for once restrictions lift and we can tour again. We took it as an opportunity to fine tune our live show so that we can be better than we were before.

R3HAB Releases Meaningful Vocal Single "One More Dance" with Norwegian artist Alida

R3HAB Releases Meaningful Vocal Single “One More Dance” with Norwegian artist Alida

by the partae November 18, 2020
written by the partae

Artists: R3HAB & Alida
Title: One More Dance
Label: CYB3RPVNK

For his newest single “One More Dance,” electronic music powerhouse R3HAB teamed up with Norwegian singer/songwriter Alida to create a powerful vocal track that will take all of your troubles away. R3HAB cultivates a danceable vibe with deep undulating basslines and breezy melodies, which serve as the perfect backdrop for Alida‘s breathy, soulful vocals. Most listeners will relate to the track’s emotive lyrics, which call to mind having that “one more dance” at your favorite show to gather the strength to face life’s challenges. The new release follows R3HAB‘s remix of Shaggy & Steven Malcom‘s “Fuego” as well as “Am I The Only One” with HRVY & Astrid S and “One Love” with Now United.

“‘One More Dance‘” is about the power of music, which is able to distract you from your pain and to build your courage to overcome your everyday problems. It also works like a drug, that lets you stay in a fantasy for a little bit longer, so press play and get lost in one more dance and get the strength to face whatever situation you’re dealing with.” – R3HAB

“This is one of the first songs we wrote when lockdown started in Los Angeles back in March. A Zoom session with laggy internet between LA and Oslo led to this super on-pulse dance track. I loved working with R3HAB, and we’re so pumped to share this dance track with the world!” – Alida

Dutch/Moroccan DJ and producer Fadi El Ghoul, better known as R3HAB, has been trailblazing his way through dance music for the better part of the last decade. From his breakthrough hit remix of Afrojack, Pitbull and Ne-Yo‘s “Give Me Everything” to his dance anthems, such as “All Around The World (La La La)” and “Lullaby,” which have collectively amassed over 600M streams, to his collaborations with the likes of ZAYN, Andy Grammer, Sofia Carson, Timmy Trumpet and more, R3HAB has proven to be one of the most talented and forward-thinking artists in the game. He partnered with Spotify and GATTÜSO to create the first-ever official “mint” single release. In 2016 he founded his label CYB3RPVNK, which passed one billion streams on its catalog within the first two years since its inception. R3HAB himself continues to evolve and diversify his sound by working with a variety of artists around the globe, experimenting with everything from hip-hop to pop through his collaborations. With his combination of innate artistry and innovative attitude, R3HAB is continuing his journey. Keep an eye out for what’s next!

Alida is a songwriter, vocalist, and artist from Norway, now based in Los Angeles, California. Her passion for singing and creating music began at a young age. At nine years old, Alida started to sing alone in her room, recording herself with a tape recorder. While in secondary school, she decided to focus on music and began to fine-tune her pursuit. It was then when she learned the piano and began writing her own songs. Upon relocating to Los Angeles, Alida began collaborating with various producers, songwriters, and artists, including Noonie Bao, Axident, Big Taste, The Orphanage, Cheat Codes, The Monarch, Loren Gray, Rollo, and Robopop, to name a few. The Norwegian singer co-wrote and was featured on Robin Schulz’s single “In Your Eyes’” which peaked at #1 on US Dance Radio & #5 on European Radio charts. Recent releases include features and co-writing jobs on Matoma‘s “Embrace Your Life” and “Home Now” by Yves V. Alida is an extremely versatile topliner and, with strength in lyric, melody, and concept, can pen records wholly on her own with ease, and she is only getting started.

Hancoq, rapper, producer, and independent label owner today releases his sophomore EP, Bloom via Mirage Records. Alongside the release, he shares the music video for EP track ‘Nonsense‘ featuring Gabriel LCR. Listen HERE and watch HERE.

In the last year Henoke Nega AKA Hancoq has been steadily working to build his production chops, drip-feeding fans amongst releases including ‘NBA‘ and ‘Ego‘ featuring OnlySu. Now on full display with his new EP Bloom, Hancoq boasts a laid back melodic approach to music, through an amalgam of moods, features, and themes. Dextrous, nonchalant, and confident, Bloom is a fusion of vulnerable trap, hard rap, and hints of reggaeton. Focus single ‘Nonsense‘ features fellow lockdown city rapper Gabriel LCR and deals with themes of growing beyond the BS and knowing when to walk away.

Of the release, Hancoq shares: “2020 has been a strange year for all, with artists in Victoria arguably experiencing the worst of it. Undeterred by being stuck inside my home studio, I spent the year working on my sophomore EP Bloom with my friend and producer Hamley (Stan Walker, Sophiya, Phi11a). I see Bloom as my coming of age project, it explores themes of personal growth, letting go, and finding beauty in the tough times. I tried to curate a cohesive body of work that showcases my range as an artist, and also features some on-the-bubble artists from Melbourne’s underground, showcasing my passion as an indie label owner for identifying talented local musicians and sharing my platform to help elevate their sounds.”

Born in New Zealand to Ethiopian parents, Hancoq is part of the new tier of Australia’s burgeoning hip hop scene, bringing a unique perspective and delivery to the community. Since first emerging in 2017 via WVS (Sophiegrophy, Lil Spacely) with his lovelorn debut ‘Out of My Mind‘ shortly followed up with the monumental, politically charged ‘Blackout‘, the rapper shared his debut EP HVNCOQ the following year to widespread support from online tastemakers HighSnobiety,  VICE, Acclaim Magazine, triple j Unearthed and community radio.

In the time since, the rapper has fast grown into a Melbourne mainstay and key figure amongst his peers, specifically dedicating time to nurturing the emergent talent of his peers through his recently launched independent label, Mirage Records in partnership with The Orchard. Mirage Records is a platform for both his own music and that of his mentee’s KVKA, Khiarra, Craigiewave, and more, and now with the release of Bloom, Hancoq is staking his claim for the Melbourne scene, and his position nationally.

Bloom EP is out now, buy/stream it here.
