PRESS CLUB ANNOUNCE THE ELECTRIC EAGLE SOARS AGAIN TOUR

by the partae December 16, 2020
written by the partae

Clambering disheveled from underneath their respective stones, PRESS CLUB, announce their return to the tarmac of this great, southern land. The group will return to shattering hearts and odometers in 2021 when they repatriate with their true home. Ibis Budgets, calloused hands, and the ever-vibrant after midnight souvlaki scene, garlic sauce dripping onto the tops of airplane dehydrated leather shoes.

The band have flicked the switch to nuke the eastern seaboard through January and February 2021. In a music industry landscape where the goalposts keep shifting, PRESS CLUB are torpedo from the half-forward flank of the MCG. Hurtling in any capacity towards real rock and roll concerts.

It’s been a day and a year since the bands last headline show in 2019. In the time since they have been using any legal minute to spit out new songs together. Given the time in between drinks, anticipate tunes unheard, songs unsung and notes unplayed.

PRESS CLUB descend like flies for sixteen shows across Australia. The majority of dates having two shows to deal with the staggering demand for blood pumping through veins and speakers cracking.

Photo credit: Alasdair McLellan To celebrate the release of their upcoming new album Spare Ribs, Nottingham-based duo Sleaford Mods have announced their latest global live event – The Demise of Planet X - which will be streamed live from Village Underground on January 10th at 9PM AEDT. The show follows their much-lauded livestream from the basement of London’s 100 Club in September. Tickets are available HERE. The Demise of Planet X global live stream is announced as the band are poised to blow the cobwebs off life and unleash some much-needed wit and charm upon us with the release of their astonishing sixth studio album, entitled Spare Ribs, out via Rough Trade / Remote Control Records on January 15th 2021. The polemical Jason Williamson and dexterous producer Andrew Fearn kick against the pricks with unrivalled bite, railing against hypocrisy, inequality and apathy with their inimitable, scabrous sense of humour. Featuring Amy Taylor of Melbourne punks Amyl and the Sniffers and the British newcomer Billy Nomates, Spare Ribs finds the duo charged with ire at the UK Government’s sense of entitlement, epitomised by its devil-may-care approach to the coronavirus crisis. “After the livestream in September at the 100 Club, it was clear that the connection to the audience, although through a screen, was still as strong. We love playing. We love the songs we play. It’s never a problem to perform and after a year of not performing it’s a fucking joy to appear on your screens” says Williamson. The global live broadcast from the iconic Village Underground will take fans on a raucous ride through their acclaimed back catalogue and preview tracks from Spare Ribs, including recent singles ‘Mork n Mindy' and 'Shortcummings'. Spare Ribs follows Sleaford Mods' career-spanning retrospective album All That Glue and their sold-out debut Australian tour in March this year, which included standout performances at Golden Plains Festival, WOMADadelaide, Farmer & The Owl and more. THE FORTITUDE MUSIC HALL PRESENTS ‘STRINGS ATTACHED’ CONCERT SERIES WITH BRISBANE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

by the partae December 16, 2020
written by the partae

Brisbane’s premier venue, The Fortitude Music Hall is teaming up with the Brisbane Symphony Orchestra (BSO) and a unique selection of Australia’s finest touring talent for the inaugural Strings Attached series kicking off in February 2021.

Produced by The Fortitude Music Hall team in conjunction with Conductor Emeritus Antoni Bonetti & Brisbane Symphony Orchestra, Strings Attached is possible thanks to the support from Federal Government’s RISE Grant initiative with recipients announced today.

Taking place quarterly at The Fortitude Music Hall, each Strings Attached show will feature 25 members from Brisbane’s best-loved community orchestra onstage, performing alongside a different contemporary artist.

Showcasing the depth, legacy, and brilliance of Australia’s deep pool of local talent, Strings Attached is a collision of sonic worlds, making for a spectacular and memorable series of events for fans of both classical and contemporary music. The official line up of artists playing alongside BSO will be announced in early 2021.

The Brisbane Symphony Orchestra will be led by Antoni Bonetti, the Orchestra conductor and violinist. Bonetti is Music Director and Founding Conductor of the 70 member Brisbane Symphony Orchestra and Noosa Orchestra.

Antoni Bonetti says “Brisbane Symphony Orchestra is always pleased to accompany Australian contemporary artists and play music by Australian composers. We have a proud history of accompanying singers and instrumentalists and have in the past collaborated with Brisbane Band “Valtozash”. We often commission and perform Australian composers such as Elena Kats-Chernin and will be premiering a work of hers during our concert season this year.”

The Fortitude Music Hall’s John Collins (JC) says the chance to pull together this kind of talent was a no-brainer. “We’re absolutely chuffed that the Federal Government have come on board to support this. It’s the first time we’ve done anything like it and it’s going to be so special hearing such a full sound behind some of our best talent with The Fortitude’s epic acoustics. Our team have a huge line up planned for the series and we can’t wait to share it with you.”

Federal Member for Brisbane Trevor Evans said “We’re thrilled to support Brisbane’s very own The Fortitude Music Hall and Queensland Symphony Orchestra on this unique and compelling event. It’s exciting to see live music back in Brisbane again and these concerts are a great step forward in helping the local arts community recover from what has been a very difficult year, for both artists and audiences. A strong and thriving creative and cultural sector is imperative in rebuilding our local economy after COVID-19”.

The Strings Attached line up will be announced in early 2021.

by the partae December 16, 2020
written by the partae

Gold Coast-based party starters Bootleg Rascal have just announced a 14-date East Coast tour across metro and regional areas.

The group will traverse the country, stopping off at Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Wollongong, Canberra, Sydney, Central Coast, Frankston, Melbourne, Geelong, Belgrave, Byron Bay, Gold Coast, Hobart and Caltowie.

“After moving and cancelling a bunch of dates in 2020, it feels good to finally be announcing something that is more likely to go ahead,” says guitarist Jimmy Young. “Anyone who knows us well, understands how important playing live shows is to us, so fingers crossed we’ll be able to get out there and make up for lost time with some banging parties.”

Gold Coast-based New Zealand born rapper Saint Lane will join the lads on all dates (excluding Sunshine Coast, Hobart and Caltowie). The rapper burst onto the scene in 2019, picking up praise from the likes of triple j, The Needle Drop, NME, The Guardian, GQ, Billboard and Beats 1 with Briggs. He’s also traversed the country, sharing stages with Lime Cordiale, JID and Bootleg Rascal.

Since their mid-2013 inception, Bootleg Rascal have released a slew of singles, two EP’s and two albums, all warmly received by critics and fans around the world, with support from the likes of NME, The Line of Best Fit, Clash Magazine, Pilerats and Wonderland Magazine. Multiple tracks have been added to Spotify and Apple Music playlists, high rotation on triple j and they’ve performed on the station’s esteemed ‘Like a Version’ segment.

The band have continually traversed the globe playing multiple sold out headline shows in France, UK, Holland, Germany, New Zealand and Australia, and performed sold out shows in the USA. They’ve also regularly appeared on major Australian festivals including Falls Festival, The Big Pineapple Festival, Lost Paradise, Hills are Alive, Festival of the Sun and Party in the Paddock.

The group are currently in the studio working on another record, set for release in early 2021. In the coming weeks, they’ll also announce a scavenger hunt for free tickets and merchandise, that will launch via their social media platforms.

  • Watch The Sound on ABC and iview – airs Sundays 6pm + repeats Saturdays 1.30pm
Eight episodes, 80 artists, 66 locations, nine guest hosts, 1 x closed airport runway, 1 x big boat and 1 x ice cream truck… it’s almost a wrap on Season 2 of The Sound for 2020!
Created and produced by Mushroom Vision and the ABC, The Sound celebrates the best new Australian music by putting contemporary artists on prime time, free-to-air TV.Across two seasons in 2020, we’ve captured stunning live performances at iconic music venues and locations here in Australia and abroad, at a time when our live music industry was brought to its knees.

The list of performers is a dream line-up: from Kylie Minogue, Archie Roach, Nick Cave, Midnight Oil, Amy Shark, Guy Sebastian, Mary Seymour, Birds of Tokyo, Courtney Barnett, Missy Higgins, The Rubens, Jimmy Barnes, Tones And I, The Avalanches, Julia Jacklin, Bliss n Eso, Jessica Mauboy, Kate Ceberano, Something For Kate, Middle Kids and more….

To arresting newcomers such as BENEE, Sam Fischer, Miiesha, Ruel, Dallas Woods, Azure Ryder, Mia Wray and many others. Plus, incredible weekly ‘Tribute’ collaborations that have wowed fans across the land!

We’ve got one more present for you to unwrap this festive season, and it’s gonna be a good one…

Tune into ABC and iview this coming Sunday 20 December at 6pm for The Sound: Making Gravy Christmas Special – inspired by one of Australia’s most iconic songwriters and featuring performances by:

  • Paul Kelly: Australia’s greatest and most enduring songwriter, responsible for the iconic ‘How to Make Gravy’ song, typically takes his spectacular Making Gravy outdoor live shows across the nation each December. Tune in this Sunday to watch previously unseen live footage, captured at Kelly’s incredible sold-out Gravy show at The Domain, Sydney
  • Recorded at Hamer Hall, Melbourne, with the 45-piece Orchestra Victoria, we get a sneak peek at The Teskey Brothers’ upcoming YouTube special (live 22 December). Run Home Slow has been acclaimed as one of the best records of 2020
  • Baker Boy with Dallas Woods feat. Sampa The Great – filmed at VIC’s sacred Hanging Rock and, incredibly, with a shoot also taking place in Botswana, this performance of the ultra-smooth ‘Better Days’ threads together Yolngu Matha, English and Bemba languages in an incredible mix… this is one exclusive you don’t want to miss!
  • Brisbane popsters Ball Park Music released their latest record Ball Park Music – The Album back in October to much fanfare. We caught up with the band at Brisbane venue The Triffid this week, to catch them performing new single ‘Cherub’
  • It’s been a huge year for Vika & Linda. They entertained us with weekly lockdown performances from home, while their gorgeous gospel album Sunday (The Gospel According To Iso) debuted at #2. It wouldn’t be Making Gravy without them so don’t miss them performing one of their most-loved hits, filmed at Melbourne’s St Michael Uniting Church
  • Promising new music in 2021 is multi-award winner Dan Sultan, joined on The Sound this week with Darwin’s Leah Flanagan. Dan performs a stunning version of his ode to inner-city Melbourne – ‘Old Fitzroy’, captured live at the Hayden Orpheum Picture Palace in Cremorne, NSW
  • Hey ho let’s go! Alex Lahey loves Christmas songs – so much so that she released her own version of the Ramones’ classic ‘Merry Christmas (I Don’t Want To Fight Tonight)’. We catch Alex at Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl
  • Acclaimed singer/songwriter Alex The Astronaut released her debut record The Theory of Absolutely Nothing in 2020, scoring a triple j Feature Album. She joins us to perform her latest song ‘I Think You’re Great’, live from Brisbane’s Riverstage

That’s it for us in 2020. A huge thank you to each of the performers and special guest hosts who’ve appeared on The Sound to date… It’s been a pleasure working with you – and we look forward to doing it all again!

Lastly, to our viewers: thank you for embracing our new live music TV show so warmly. Much of The Sound was produced in Melbourne, during a harsh COVID lockdown. We’ve received thousands of messages and social media posts and reading how much you’ve loved tuning into The Sound each week has made it even more worthwhile.

Don’t miss The Sound: Making Gravy Christmas Special – Sunday 20 December at 6pm on ABC and iview.

Where are you based? Currently, I’m in sunny Govan. A stones through away from the Clyde River. Sitting in my studio answering my third interview of the day! That no mean city they call Glasgow. Glesvegas! How did it feel to release your debut artist album, The Last King of Scotland, last month? It was a pure mix of emotions actually. Overly proud, a little relieved. But also sad and sort of Stockholm Syndrome. This has been a labour of love for the last 2 years. I’ve fallen in love with, out of love. It’s kept me driven, focused and inspired throughout this horrific year. Now I feel a bit lost! Like the vulnerable mother. Watching their kid walk into school for the first time. It’s flew the nest, into the wilderness. To be devoured by whomever it falls upon. I couldn’t have asked for a better reception to be honest. The reactions and support around the world have completely blown my expectations to pieces. What is behind the album title? It’s pretty much an acknowledgment, a nod - to the country I love. The place that inspires me. You can travel the globe week in week out. But nothing beats the feeling of home. And little self proclamation as well just for good measure! Did you do anything special to celebrate the album launch? Yes. I officially launched the album from arguably Scotland’s iconic venues, The Arches. "It only seemed right to take it back inside those hallowed brick walls of The Arches. When I moved to Glasgow from Orkney in 2008, it felt like every other night out ended up here. What started out as a hobby turned into an addiction. The addiction led to an education. A pilgrimage to this clubbing mecca we all know and love. Nowhere could be more fitting. I have to say, I had mixed emotions reading back all the comments. So many stories, experiences, shared by people, tagging their circles of friends, clubbers - bringing all that together felt even more special than the stream itself. And it really brought home just how special The Arches was. An institution in it's own right. Friendships forged, memories set in stone. There was only one place I could have launched this album. Egypt has the Pyramids. China has the Great Wall. Glasgow has “Oor Arches."  From Paul Van Dyk to Gary Go, theres a host of huge collaborations on the album. How did these come about? I worked with a plethora of international artists on this album. Hailing from Berlin to LA. London to Oban. Some were heroes, others were friends. Then some were just insanely talented songwriters. But all with one thing in common. The potential enrich my sound and add a new, exciting twist. Otherwise, is there any point in collaborating? I’m a control freak when it comes to the studio. Thus I’m not ideal for collaborating with. I need to have my stamp on everything. I know how I want it to sound. The track is already finished in my head before I’ve even written it. If I don’t realise that vision, then the track is dead in the water for me. So collaborating is difficult for me. Unless I am passionate about the artist, and the potential outweighs the compromise. All these artists ticked that box. Some tracks began as singles. Awakening with Paul was a melody I had sitting on my computer for around 8 years. Until it finally came to life as a demo for Vandit. Then Paul decided to join me on the record and collaborate. Other tracks started out as indie demos. Happy Hours was an Ed Sheehan style pop record before drafted in DC Breaks who turned it into a rib rattling D&B masterpiece. The track with Gary Go was originally a sort of progressive indie track. My manager John brokered a deal at ADE, Amsterdam. Basically give me a shot at the stems and subsequently turning it into a brooding crossover Trance meets cinematic Rock cut. Each collaboration has its own wee story. But they are all with artists that excite and energise my sound. Whats your creative process like? It’s pretty temperamental to be honest. It comes in random waves so I always need to near my laptop if I’m not in the studio. Some of the best melodies have come to me in a dream. There have been tracks finished backstage before I walk out in front of 5000 people. Other tracks have been started on airport floors and finished in hotel rooms. I have no control. But one thing I’ve noticed is if if I’m going through a particularly rough time, I’m able to channel this into the most emotional and thought provoking music. It’s like a supernatural ability. The only problem is I have to go suffer or experience unwanted feeling to channel it. Other times I’ll be in the kitchen making a cup of tea, hear an advert from the TV and bang - I’ll have an instant hair raising topline melody. I can tap inspiration from a multitude of sources. But emotions and experiences are most fruitful for me. Can you tell us about your approach to production and recording? After the bolt of inspiration - which could be a melody, a bassline, a hook idea - then comes the groundwork. Putting the scaffolding up to host this ultimate vision. From there it’s like a process of jenga. Building the foundations, taking away, adding. Until you find the winning formula. And achieve that ultimate vision. Who inspired you to make electronic music? Initially my mum. She got me into Judge Jules. From there, I distinctly remember hearing one of his live sets from Creamfields 2001 I think it was. He played a track called Angelic - Stay With Me. It was a live broadcast and I’ll never forget the reaction. The screams. Whistles. Horns.  I was 11 years old. So I wasn’t aware there was a producer sitting in a room making these sounds gel in harmony, but I knew I wanted the ability to create that energy and emotion. When the time comes, where are you most excited about playing live? Mexico for it’s electric, hot blooded atmopshere. But closer to home, Glasgow. Here we fucking go. And what track from the album are you most excited to play in front of fans? Kismet Energy. It’s a high octane, euphorically driven Hard House track. It sums up my journey from the past. My influences. An era that shaped me but reimagined through my eyes. As I wasn’t actually old enough to live it.  What can we expect next from Will Atkinson? I’m putting the finishing touches on one last single to close out this shitter  of a year. It’s a 145bpm power Trancer. The melody will break your heart. There are multiple climaxes. You’ll be left a hollowed out shell after listening to it. There’s a strong sense of hope, maybe a feeling of loss. 7 or so minutes of relentless ecstasy. It’s called The Last Rave On Earth.  ‘Will Atkinson’s album ‘The Last King of Scotland’ is Out Now on Black Hole Recordings. Get it here: https://will.complete.me/lastkingofscotland

Will Atkinson

by the partae December 16, 2020
written by the partae

We spoke to trail blazing trance producer Will Atkinson around the recent release of his debut album on legendary Dutch label Black Hole Recordings. A mammoth 17-track project, ‘Last King of Scotland’ is a testament to the extraordinary talent honed by the thirty-year-old and quickly reached No. 2 in Beatport’s Top 100 chart and topped their Top 100 Trance Releases. Spanning the realms of trance, techno, drum’n’bass and spoken word, the album is a genre-defying debut that blends harder sounds with more progressive, melodic stylings…

It’s pretty much an acknowledgment, a nod – to the country I love.

“It only seemed right to take it back inside those hallowed brick walls of The Arches. So many stories, experiences, shared by people, tagging their circles of friends, clubbers – bringing all that together felt even more special than the stream itself. And it really brought home just how special The Arches was. An institution in it’s own right. Friendships forged, memories set in stone. There was only one place I could have launched this album. Egypt has the Pyramids. China has the Great Wall. Glasgow has “Oor Arches.”

From Paul Van Dyk to Gary Go, theres a host of huge collaborations on the album.

EMMIT FENN UNVEILS STUNNING NEW SINGLE ‘WHAT FALLING IN LOVE IS FOR’

Emmit Fenn has established his unique sound over the past few years. His debut single ‘Painting Greys’ lived at #1 on Spotify’s Global Viral Charts for 7 days straight when it first released. Emmit went on to release multiple EPs, produce songs for Billie Eilish (bitches broken hearts), Ry X, Lolo Zouai and many more, and even score a TV show for Quentin Tarantino’s music supervisor.

Today, Emmit blesses us with his last single of 2020 and it’s the original and acoustic version of ‘What Falling In Love Is For’. The delicate and minimal vocals will have the song left on repeat.

If this is a sign of what is to come, Emmit Fenn’s debut album in 2021 is definitely one to look out for.

A year, a week and a day from their last live performance at KROQ’s Almost Acoustic Christmas, critically acclaimed alternative rock band Jimmy Eat World are excited to announce Phoenix Sessions, a global stream performance series in partnership with Danny Wimmer Presents.
To kick off 2021, the band will come together for one-of-a-kind performances of three “chapters” in their storied career. Beginning January 16th in Australia with a performance of their 10th studio album SURVIVING (Chapter X), which has only been seen live by the lucky fans who made it to the shows last October, followed by FUTURES (Chapter V) on January 30th and CLARITY (Chapter III) on February 13th.  Recorded at the Icehouse in Phoenix, AZ, the virtual events will feature the band performing each album in its entirety for a full concert experience.  Each show will start at 9am AEDT and will be available on demand for 72 hours post stream at JimmyEatWorldLive.com.
“We are always looking for ways to challenge ourselves, to do things as music fans that we think would be cool for OUR fans. We came up with the idea of presenting a series of concert films centred around a few specific albums (for now) and performing them on a different level. It isn’t the way we normally play a show and it’s definitely something new for how we approach a performance, but we haven’t been able to share the experience with our fans in over a year… so here we go!” – Jim Adkins

Global Stream Performance Dates for Australia
9am AEDT January 16 – Chapter X – Surviving
9am AEDT January 30 – Chapter V – Futures
9am AEDT February 13 – Chapter III – Clarity

Tickets for these events are on sale NOW and can be purchased as a single show or in a three-pack bundle.  Early bird pricing begins at $US14.99 for a single performance (through the Sunday prior to each show) and $US39.99 for the bundle of all three through January 10th.  Other bundles, merchandise and VIP meet and greets will be available at a variety of price levels.  For more information on tickets and bundles please visit: JimmyEatWorldLive.com.

What is your name and role within Stuck Out? Josh - Vocalist Where are you currently based? Born and bred in Melbourne, Aus. How did Stuck out form? We're all mates from high school who hung out on the weekend, jamming in a garage/ basement. Once we finished school we decided to try and take the whole band thing a little more seriously and now here we are. What's been happening recently and how has your Covid experience been so far? I've been one of the extremely blessed people who has kept working throughout the various lockdowns. Working isn't something  people are normally thrilled about but it kept me busy and now with everything opening back up again, the band is in full flight and very keen on releasing the new EP. Your new single 'Inverse' is out now off your forthcoming EP 'Lie Through Your Teeth' how did Inverse come about and what does the single mean to you? Inverse was written about 2 years ago then kind of trashed cause it wasn't good enough, then about a year ago we opened up some old files and came across it and basically re-wrote the song into what you hear today. It was certainly a long process from start to finish but I definitely think it's a good representation of the thought and effort we put into our songwriting these days. Your new EP will be out on Dec 18, what influenced the sound and songwriting? Honestly, we just want to write good rock songs with good hooks to match. Each song sounds (relatively) different to each other and I think it's a great representation of the scope of our sound. We didn't specifically draw on a particular band or project when it came to LTYT, we just wanted to take what Stuck Out was and make it better. How did you go about writing the tracks? Each track was vastly different. Tracks like Inverse and Mindless were in the works for two years, then we wrote Hollow about a month before we went into the studio. Ultimately it tends to be an individual who will start a song then everyone will come together to rip it apart and re-write the whole thing to be the best it can be. Where and when did you record/produce/master and who did you work with? The EP was recorded in Feb/March, we actually finished vocals a week before Melbourne went into the first lockdown. We worked with Jack Newlyn (Paradise Club) from start to finish on this record which was really nice. He felt like a member of the band by the end and his attention to detail was amazing, I can't recommend him highly enough. How did you approach the recording process? We really wanted to create a record that would translate to a live setting. We pride ourselves on our live shows so we wanted something that would match that energy and aggression in a recorded form. What programs/instruments did you use? 99% of what you hear on the record is pure guitar, drums and vocals (obviously with effects added over the top). We had a lot of fun messing around with delay and harmonic pedals to try and warp what we already had and we relied heavily on the JHS Double Barrel for the guitar tones. What did you find most challenging and rewarding through out the process? The start of recording is always difficult because there's alway so many directions you could go with tones, production etc. but once you get into the groove with it, it starts to record itself. The most rewarding part is definitely hearing the finished product. Every song on the record came out better than I imagined and that's a big testament to Jack's work on the record. Who are you listening to at the moment? BMTH released that ripper record so that's been getting a lot of spins.Loathe, Alpha Wolf and Nothing But Thieves have probably been the most consistent appearances this year, all of them released phenomenal albums. What do you like to do away from music? I'm very chill with my time. I just want to catch up with mates, socialise and have a drink. That's probably been enhanced even more after the year we've had. What's planned for the remainder of 2020 going into 2021? Our EP Lie Through Your Teeth is out this Friday and our EP Release Show is Saturday night so that should keep us relatively busy. We'll enjoy the New Year break then get right back into things at the start of next year! Favourite food and place to hangout? Our local is Hello Sam's burger joint. Stuck Out

What is your name and role within Stuck Out?

Josh – Vocalist

Where are you currently based?

Born and bred in Melbourne, Aus.

How did Stuck out form?

We’re all mates from high school who hung out on the weekend, jamming in a garage/ basement. Once we finished school we decided to try and take the whole band thing a little more seriously and now here we are.

What’s been happening recently and how has your Covid experience been so far?

I’ve been one of the extremely blessed people who has kept working throughout the various lockdowns. Working isn’t something  people are normally thrilled about but it kept me busy and now with everything opening back up again, the band is in full flight and very keen on releasing the new EP.

BRUNSWICK MUSIC FESTIVAL 2021 – DATES ANNOUNCED!

by the partae December 16, 2020
written by the partae

BRUNSWICK MUSIC FESTIVAL  2021 DATES ANNOUNCED

5-14 MARCH 2021 – SEE YOU THERE!

After being paused mid-dance in 2020, Brunswick Music Festival is pleased to hit play on live music again in 2021.

In a shorter 10-day format from March 5-14 (taking in the Labour Day long weekend) BMF 2021 will focus on creating opportunities for people to gather and connect IRL with a stacked program of live music experiences.

With beloved musical festivals like Golden Plains and Port Fairy Folk Festival on unavoidable temporary hiatus, BMF will be doing all it can to bridge the gap and contribute to helping the local community find its feet.

The line-up will drop Tuesday February 2 but in the meantime, the organisers have revealed that an exciting new outdoor venue at a secret location in Brunswick will be the centrepiece of the program.

In addition to this breezy new location, the program will prioritise celebrating Brunswick’s amazing live music venues, all of which suffered greatly during Melbourne’s periods of prolonged lockdown and which we all missed so badly.

Since the needle skipped on 2020’s event the world as we know it has turned upside down. Now more than ever, music and opportunities to come together feel essential and the principles BMF is built on – neighbourhood and community, inclusivity, diversity and sustainability along with creating a sense of place and safe spaces – are less like ideals and more like non-negotiables.

BMF 2021 is set to comprise a collective exhale, a healthy dose of togetherness, a huge cup of joy and some really, really, really exciting live music experiences. Watch this space.

BASSINTHEGRASS will take place at Darwin’s iconic Mindil Beach on Saturday, 15 May 2021 with a slew of nationally and internationally-renowned artists to take to the stage.

An epic line-up has been secured for the all-ages event, with the following artists confirmed (in alphabetical order):

The 2021 event returns after a record-breaking BASSINTHEGRASS 2019, which saw 10,000 festivalgoers converge on Mindil Beach.

Heading into its 18th year, BASSINTHEGRASS 2021 will feature two main stages offering non-stop entertainment from midday to midnight, with attendees experiencing the Top End’s famous sunsets and warm, tropical weather.

Set to play at BASSINTHEGRASS – and in the Northern Territory for the first time – is Australian indie rock band The Jungle Giants.

Lead guitarist Cesira Aitken said the group was excited to come to Darwin to play BASSINTHEGRASS.

“It’s been such a long time between shows and this will be our first time in the Northern Territory,” she said.

“It’ll be a special time after such a weird year, we can’t wait!”

Australian electropop duo Boo Seeka – made up of Ben Gumbleton and Michael May – said they were keen to get back to the Top End for BASSINTHEGRASS.

“It’s easily one of our favourite festivals,” Michael said.

“Darwin is such an awesome place and we’re both really looking forward to playing for fans at Mindil Beach next year in May.”

Northern Territory Major Events Company CEO Tim Watsford said he was stoked to confirm the line-up for next year’s BASSINTHEGRASS.

“With such a great selection of acts we expect music fans from around Australia to venture north, where they can soak up the sun, sand and good vibes at what has become an unmissable event for Territorians,” he said.

“BASSINTHEGRASS is the perfect excuse to start planning your Territory adventure.”

Limited general admission tickets are available for $105 until 1 February (unless sold out prior), when final release tickets will go on sale for $120. This event usually sells out.

A limited number of VIP tickets are also on offer for $220 + booking fee, giving attendees aged 18 and over a premium festival experience with access to a VIP area with private bars and bathrooms, a finger food package, four beverage vouchers and a souvenir stubbie cooler and ticket.

BASSINTHEGRASS brings the nation’s top musical talent to Darwin, cementing its place as the biggest and best music festival in the Northern Territory.

Now in its 18th year, the licensed all-ages event is supported by the Northern Territory Government.

Prior to its relocation in 2019 to Mindil Beach, BASSINTHEGRASS was held at the George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens. The move to Mindil Beach allowed more fans to attend, making the festival bigger and better than ever.

Since breaking out in 2015 with their debut hit ‘Kingdom Leader’, which has since accumulated over 15 million streams, BOO SEEKA have dominated national consciousness & for good reason. The pair’s dynamic energy both in the studio and on stage has allowed them to stand out amongst Australia’s thriving music scene, and stand the test of time.

BOO SEEKA’S 2017 debut album ‘Never Too Soon’ was met with global acclaim with triple j describing the record as a “beautifully crafted, worldly-sounding body of work”. The album debuted at #8 on the ARIA album charts and earned the home-grown heroes coveted spots on esteemed festival lineups Beyond The Valley, Groovin The Moo and Splendour In The Grass as well as selling out numerous headline tours across Australia, North America and Europe.
