I OH YOU are fired up to present DZ Deathrays second single ‘All or Nothing’ lifted from their fifth studio album Positive Rising: Part 2 (out Fri 9 July 2021), the highly anticipated follow up from 2019’s Positive Rising: Part 1.
Premiering yesterday on triple J’s Drive, ‘All or Nothing’ is a testament to the objects that serve as reminders of home when the band are far from it.
“It’s reminiscent of touring life and the idea that something like a guitar can bring so much joy and adventure to our lives,” Parsons explains.
One of the hardest songs on the record to finish, Parsons rewrote the music over and over in different keys “to try see where it would go”. After six attempts it wound up right where it started: as a rollicking, garage epic that shifts key from verse to chorus. In other words: a classic DZ Deathrays song. “It’s the flip-side to some of the other tracks that look out into the world: this one looks into our little world.”

Hand Habits – dirt EP is out February 19 via Milk! Records / Remote Control Records.
Summer is the first track from a forthcoming EP titled Homelands by Aboriginal led punk-rock band Chasing Ghosts. Frontman Jimmy Kyle is a proud Koori man, a descendent of the Thungutti mob from the mid-north coast of NSW. He speaks and writes with a potent mind. Every track on the forthcoming EP is about real people and real situations, all of them born from intense real-life stories. Wanting to do justice to the topics while bringing everyone on the journey and simultaneously still speaking the truth was a pressure that weighted heavy. “I was scared to write these songs, because a lot of the topics are challenging,” says Jimmy Kyle. “But that’s how I knew I was onto something. It made me feel nervous.”

“Summer” is one hell of an amped track with a beat that drives so strong it has the legs to keep rockin’ all Summer long. Produced by Jimmy Kyle and Lincoln Le Fevre (Luca Brasi, Wil Wagner, Lucy Wilson), accompanied with an equally charged and culturally strong clip by award winning filmmaker Ben McFadyen and cover art by Wiradjuri, Ngiyampaa woman and Instagram design influencer @coffinbirth, this power posse is one you need to be across.
“Summer “finds Jimmy Kyle singing in both English and, for the first time ever, in his native tongue as he explores the horrors of the 1856 Towel Creek massacre. The singer-guitarist delivers the song through the eyes of a grieving Aboriginal Elder, of the story of “Baaba” (Babaang) Jack Scott as a baby; the lone survivor of the Towel Creek tragedy. Incredibly, through a schoolyard incident when he was younger Kyle learned of a close family link to that Elder.
“The song explores white nationalism, colonisation, assimilation and ultimately reconciliation,” offers Kyle. “It asks the question of white Australia to come and reconcile the true history of the country and invites non-Indigenous Australians to see themselves as an extension of Aboriginal people.”
With a strong passion for Aboriginal languages Jimmy Kyle is committed to his culture and his community and has a long history working with First Nations Youth, Elders and community. Further, Jimmy’s cultural awareness training workshops and seminars are in high demand due to the cultural depth his brings to this space. He works with entities such as the Victoria Police, DHHS and other government agencies to help them better understand First Nations cultures and histories. “Only having a little knowledge is dangerous,” he says.

Live music lovers can rejoice today as postponed heavy music event Thrashville releases full line-up for its rescheduled date of February 13th 2021.
Held at Dashville at Lower Belford, the one-day camping event features an array of local and regional bands ranging in styles from punk rock to death metal, alongside skateboarding displays and live graff art.
Thrashville is a rare opportunity regardless of COVID and Dashville is proud to be able to deliver such an event in an outdoor COVID Safe environment.
Thrashville’s full 2021 program:
Astrodeath // Basil’s Kite // Battlesnake // Boudicca // C.O.F.F.I.N Chop // Dark Order // HOON // No Quarter // PurEnvY // Ragdoll Scabz // Whatever // Zombonimo
Since the festivals debut in January 2017, the grass roots one day camping event, has proven to be a key event in the ‘heavy’ music calendar, being sorely missed in 2019 and 2020 due to drought, bush fires and COVID respectfully.
Event organiser Dashville has persevered in a very tricky environment to produce a quality experience for their much loved, but under serviced, metal, punk and rock fans with Thrashville being one of the only ‘slightly heavier’ outdoor festivals still in existence.
Organisers concede it has been very challenging planning in such uncertain times. However, through the success of other COVID safe events held at the pristine rural site, alongside the importance of Thrashville to its community, it wasn’t hard to find the encouragement to persevere, curating a quality experience, albeit slightly smaller than usual and delivered at the final hour, due to working within a changing COVID safe environment.
Despite a reduced capacity and a designated seating area, organisers are confident the heavy music community will come out to support the artists and enjoy the event responsibly.
‘We’re all in this together, Dashville has been hosting events since August last year and it’s amazing how people are willing to work within the boundaries and adapt in order to get along and enjoy themselves.’ Says organiser Matt Johnston
Thrashville is rated MA15+, it is a fully licensed one day event with onsite camping. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times.
For further event information and ticketing please head to www.dashville.com.au/thrashville

DJ International is the iconic record label steeped in authenticity and dance music history. It was the label that introduced the world to Chicago House, birthing it and nurturing it in its infancy, releasing the first ever House Music long player in 1986 ‘The House Sound Of Chicago’. It is a label with an outstanding discography populated by the now legendary artists of the time, untouchable DJs like Frankie Knuckles, Fingers Inc (Larry Heard & Robert Owens), Ron Hardy, Steve ‘Silk” Hurley, Farley ‘Jackmaster’ Funk, Joe Smooth, Darryl Pandy and Marshall Jefferson.
It now relaunches and returns in 2021 acquired and under exclusive license to Last Man Music, still with its original and inimitable founder at its helm Rocky Jones and the very same forward looking House music ideology, focusing on new artists as well as reintroducing the ultimate classics of the past, beginning 2021 with Anthony Thomas ’Promised Land’.
Arguably up there as one of the greatest House records ever made ‘Promised Land’ came in at the very start of the House music movement. Originally released in 1987 by the original producer Joe Smooth and created in the spiritual home of all House Music, Chicago. Later the track crossed over international borders becoming an iconic moment globally going on to represent the essence of Ibiza’s Balearic beat. Anthony Thomas, who is the original vocalist, has now re-recorded the track, updating it but keeping the original feel, reinforcing his unifying and soulful lyrics. It was the power of these lyrics that made this a massive underground dancefloor hit with the ecstasy generation of the late 80’s and early 90’s worldwide.
For DJ International as a label it didn’t stop there; the imprint was responsible for introducing the world to Farley Jackmaster Funk with his unforgettable release ‘Love Can’t Turn Around’ (1986) as well as other genre defining moments including Marshall Jefferson’s ‘Move Your Body’ and Steve Silk Hurley’s ‘Jack Your Body’. The latter riding a bassline from First Choice’s disco classic ‘Let No Man Put Asunder‘ earning a surprise 1987 UK No.1.
In August 2020, DJ International tested the waters for a formal return and debuted a posthumous Frankie Knuckles track ‘Carefree (I Am A Star)’ as the first release from the forthcoming Jackmaster 7 album, a follow-up to six Jackmaster albums the label put out between 1987 and 1991.
With one eye on its past heritage and iconic status and a long-term view to bring us new fresh and original House music acts of tomorrow, we are sure that DJ International will once again take its place alongside the other great labels of contemporary House Music culture.
Anthony Thomas ‘Promised Land’ is out now on DJ International

Legendary punk band Descendents share their new track “That’s The Breaks.” The track follows the politically-charged two-song single Suffrage, released ahead of the 2020 general election encouraging voting to take down the Trump administration. In triumph, “That’s The Breaks” serves as a farewell to 45 ahead of the upcoming inauguration.
“Loser. Big time loser. Delusional loser. SORE loser. The time has come. The time is now. Just go, go, GO. I don’t care how. Donald J. Trump, will you please go now!,” adds vocalist Milo Aukerman. “What’s it gonna take? A gazillion dollars? (Oh wait, you already grifted that from supporters)… A get out of jail free card? (Only if our judicial system totally fails us)… A wooden stake through the heart? Whatever we can do to make you go away, we need to do it. And I don’t mean just leave the White House, I mean crawl back into your hole of hate and live out the rest of your life as a nobody. A loser. Because that’s what you are. Worst. President. Ever.”
Formed in 1978 Descendents are Milo Aukerman (vocals), Stephen Egerton (guitar), Karl Alvarez (bass), and Bill Stevenson (drums). They have released seven studio albums, Milo Goes to College (1982), I Don’t Want to Grow Up (1985), Enjoy! (1986), All

Global powerhouse Tones And I joins Missy Higgins in co-headlining 2021 SOUNDS BETTER TOGETHER at Mt Duneed Estate on Saturday. Hailing from Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, Tones is Australia’s biggest international success story, a multi-platinum singer-songwriter amassing a record number of global streams of her hit single ‘Dance Monkey’, along with follow up singles ‘Never Seen The Rain’, new single ‘Fly Away’, which is climbing charts globally and more (‘Dance Monkey’ has also taken the crown for the Most Shazamed song of all time!).
With a “remarkable voice that can go from hushed to hurricane” (Sydney Morning Herald), Tones And I is without doubt one of the most exciting artists to emerge from Australia in years. “It’s great to be a part of Sounds Better Together and bring live music back to Victoria”, says Tones. It’s going to be an epic night of music, when these legendary ladies join forces for Victorian audiences in a matter of days!
Sydney-via-Canowindra artist Gordi joins a huge line-up at Mt Duneed on the weekend. Alongside working her day job as a doctor, a particularly remarkable feat during COVID, the acclaimed singer-songwriter released her second studio album, Our Two Skins in June last year, garnering critical praise, two J Award nomination’s (Australian Album of the Year and Artist of the Year). Gordi said, “I’m thrilled to be coming together to bring live music back to Victoria, it’s going to be really special.”
Rounding out Mt Duneed’s sensational program is Warrnambool singer-songwriter Didirri. Known for his ethereal vocals, poetic, candid songwriting, and captivating on-stage presence, Didirri’s performance will stay with music lovers long after his set has finished.
Music legend Jimmy Barnes needs no introduction. The master singer-songwriter-performer will deliver headline performances with his band at the Yarra Valley’s Rochford Wines on 23 January and Rutherglen’s All Saints on 25 January.
Jimmy Barnes is the heart and soul of Australian rock’n’roll. He has been inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame twice, sold over 13 million albums, scored 17 #1 albums on the ARIA Charts, a feat that not even The Beatles have achieved. For more than 40 years, Barnesy has delivered some of our most intense and iconic live performances, with anthems like ‘Working Class Man’, ‘Flame Trees’, and ‘No Second Prize’ rocking pubs, arenas and stadiums across the globe. His bestselling memoirs have sold more than 500,000 copies and won the ABIA Biography Book of the Year Award in 2017 and 2018 – the only Australian author to do so twice. Jimmy’s latest book, Killing Time, short stories from the long road home, was released in late 2019 and went to #1 on the Non-Fiction book chart.
Released in 2019, Jimmy’s latest album, My Criminal Record, picked up on many of the themes in his books and spawned the hit singles, Shutting Down Our Town and I Won’t Let You Down.
Jimmy said, “It’s so great to be a part of these shows. I get to take the stage with The Teskey Brothers, Daryl Braithwaite, Vika & Linda and more. I love playing music and it always sounds so much better playing live in front of a Victorian audience. Bring it on!”
One of Melbourne’s greatest success stories, The Teskey Brothers are a rare musical gem. A raw combination of soul and blues, the four-piece have wowed audiences around the world with their undeniable live show. They join Jimmy Barnes for an evening of blues and rock in the stunning Yarra Valley this weekend. “We’re very excited to be playing this surprise show,” says bassist Brendan Love, “but especially because our first show of 2021 is with the legendary Jimmy Barnes. We can’t wait.”
Responsible for some of Australia’s best-loved songs, from the undeniable ‘The Horses’ to HOWZAT’, ‘One Summer’ and more, Daryl Braithwaite is a local music titan. An ARIA Hall of fame inductee, his latest single ‘Love Songs’ saw the music icon return to the ARIA Singles chart in 2020. Daryl has launched a brand-new chapter in his unparalleled career and will enthrall audiences in Rutherglen and Mallacoota this month.
Lauded songstress Deborah Conway has been a staple of the Australian music scene since the 80’s, when she made waves fronting pop rock outfit Do-Re-Mi. She’s a multi-ARIA Award winner, has multiple Gold albums under her belt, and was inducted into the Live Legends Hall of Fame at the 2019 National Live Music Awards.
James Reyne’s songs have provided the soundtrack to endless Australian summers, and they’ll continue to do so at Mallacoota Oval on the eve of 30 January. With 19 x Top 40 hits across his celebrated career, Reyne is an ARIA Hall of Famer that has sold out shows around the world both solo and out front of the legendary Australian Crawl. His twelfth studio album Toon Town Lullaby was released last year, and sees Reyne focused firmly on the future.
Together with Daryl Braithwaite, Vika & Linda and Mia Wray, local audiences will be treated to a night of Australia’s finest talent in Mallacoota later this month.
Vika and Linda Bull are Australia’s most revered singing sisters, known for their rich vocal harmonies and stylistic breadth. After three classic albums with The Black Sorrows, Vika & Linda have released six studio albums, two live albums and a chart-topping anthology. They have also sung on number one albums by Paul Kelly, Kasey Chambers and John Farnham, done gigs for the Dalai Lama, Nelson Mandela and the King of Tonga, and been nominated for four ARIA Awards.
And recently, whilst still celebrating the recent release of their first ever best-of collection (and first ARIA #1) ‘Akilotoa (Anthology 1996-2004), Vika & Linda have wasted no time in following up with an inspired album of gospel songs titled Sunday (The Gospel According To Iso), out now (ARIA #2).
Last year, Melbourne artist Mia Wray made a grand debut with her single ‘Work For Me’, which captured the attention of tastemakers around the country. Her soulful voice has drawn comparison to the likes of Lorde and Meg Mac, but Mia Wray is carving her own path and is a talent to watch in 2021.
