King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have this morning released their seventeenth studio album L.W. The album serves as a direct follow-up to last year’s full-length K.G., and is the third volume in the band’s explorations into microtonal tunings (which began with 2017’s Flying Microtonal Banana). On L.W. very different – and occasionally wonky – worlds collide. Album opener ‘If Not Now, Then When?’ morphs from mangled eastern rock into taut funk in a manner that somehow makes complete sense, while the amorphous and exotic ‘Pleura’ is a pungent gumbo of heady microtonal strings, tumescent riffs and endless surprises. Then there’s the slinky ‘Ataraxia’ which slithers like a sidewinder through the dusty catacombs of the imagination and the utterly disorientating ‘See Me’, which is nothing less than the national anthem of a scorched planet hitherto undiscovered. Here is an album that pulls, pushes and contorts western music into new shapes. Though some might categorise it as such, this is not ‘world music’ but ‘universal music’. |

With a green initiative implemented via the band’s Bandcamp page, “each download of L.W. comes with tree (that’s right tree). $1 from every download will be donated to Greenfleet, who plant native biodiverse forests in Australia and New Zealand. We’re aiming to make 2000 downloads which is enough to revegetate 1,000m2 at Pearsons Block in Central Victoria. Some of the species endemic to this region include Yellow Box (Eucalyptus melliodora), Varnish Wattle (Acacia verniciflua) and Sweet Bursaria (Bursaria spinosa). You will be creating habitat for the local wildlife species, playing a vital role in reconnecting parts of the Wychitella Biolink. Some of the species known to the area are Lace monitors, Quolls and the vulnerable Mallee Fowl. Other native and endangered bird species can be found in the area as well, including Shy Heathwrens and Inland Thornbills. Protected for 100 years, these trees will grow into a thriving and resilient forest restoring the native ecosystem in the area and increasing the overall biodiversity and resilience. Glitterer has released its sophomore album Life Is Not A Lesson today; a collection of deceptively upbeat, synth-infused introspective rock music, listen to it HERE.
Washington, D.C. resident and northeastern Pennsylvania native Ned Russin co-fronted Title Fight for many years before the band suspended operations and Russin became Glitterer. He initially self-released two EP’s that were odd, charming, clever, eloquent, and highly proficient records, hand-made in the spartan bedroom-pop mode: some programmed drums and keyboards with an electric bass and a voice. The songs were about the trap of self-awareness and the impossible dream of self-negation; and despite their being, combined, all of about 18 minutes long, they left long-lasting impressions, stuck themselves in peoples’ heads and stayed put.
His debut album was released in the summer of 2019, a faintly remembered and much-romanticised period during which musicians were criss-crossing the world, performing live and in the flesh for crowds well in excess of five people. Lyrically, as with the prior catalogue, many of the songs on the new record are short, dialectical considerations of the countless daily miniature panic attacks that attend the rigorously examined life. Take, as a prime example, the epistemological riddle “Are You Sure? (“Feel it in my spine / Certainty is mine / Are you sure?”), whose arrangement combines the tension-building properties of GBV’s “Hot Freaks” with the tension-resolving blast of something like “Gouge Away” (that’s the song, not the band). Life is Not a Lesson proves to be a rigorous reckoning with the life of the mind at a time when there’s not much life outside the mind.
“The major theme in Life Is Not A Lesson is desire,” Russin explains. “ “Are You Sure?” is a song about certainty. My younger self was fascinated with and comfortable in assurances. I felt very sure I had the answers to a lot of questions. What am I doing with my life? What do I like? Who am I? My current self not so much. This song addresses the desires to find these answers while admittedly contradicting itself in the face of their questions, unsure if they’re even important to answer in the first place.

Traversing her own thoughts with uncanny attention to detail, her visceral productions are reminiscent of Kelly Lee Owens’ reptiously meditative melodies, Smerz’s concentrated chaos and the subtle trance of Daniel Avery.
On her forthcoming Memories EP, Eartheater, aka NY-based Alexandra Drewchin, and Varg²™, Swedish producer Jonas Rönnberg, also offer their take on two tracks taking Durman’s music further into another dimension. In a plan to bring artists together during these last unconventional 12 months, BBC Radio 1’s Danny Howard launched the ‘Lockdown Link Up’ on his Friday night show. Pairing up artists & producers at random, Franky Rizardo and Joe Goddard were two out of sixteen dually selected to collaborate on a production during their time in isolation. Now, as the track has progressed it is being officially released on the renowned FFRR as ‘No Judgement’, out today.
As two of electronic music’s most current & established artists, Franky Rizardo and Joe Goddard deliver a melodic electronic ballad with a crunchy bass that progresses beautifully around a strong and emotive vocal.
Long established as an international touring artist as well as a name firmly engrained within his own country, promoted his LTF brand across global festivals such as Tomorrowland and had individual appearances at ANTS, elrow and more. He has remixed the likes of Kraftwerk, New Order, Disclosure, Dirty Projectors and The Chemical Brothers, Wiley and Jessie Ware as well as produced for Franz Ferdinand and Bernard Summer.
A keen collaborator Joe Goddard has released tracks with Michael Mayer, Tuff City Kids, Eats Everything, Matthew Dear and he now teams with one of electronic music’s most compelling individuals, as they set themselves up to reveal ‘No Judgement’ to the rest of the world.

‘No Limits’ is a record that is already causing a stir within House music circles. It is a record that has been bouncing around since 2019. Played by a handful of tastemakers who originally received it direct from Gladys Pizarro’s newly formed Launch Entertainment imprint. Gladys is, of course, the former and original highly respected A&R of the iconic NYC label Strictly Rhythm.
Born out of an inspired studio session in 2018 between Danism, Train and DJ Rae, ‘No Limits’ evokes memories from the heyday of the soulful NYC sound. The production and, in particular, the sublime vocal delivery from DJ Rae makes this a stand out release. Already on heavy rotation in the soulful house scene, ‘No Limits’ has received solid support from Louie Vega, Todd Terry, Francois K, Terry Hunter, CJ Mackintosh, Mr V, Sandy Rivera, DJ Spen, Brutha Basil, Sy Sez, Richard Earnshaw and many more.

Today, Perth based vocalist/producer Your Girl Pho serves listeners a slice of perfect pop chaos, unveiling her latest single ‘Co Star’ alongside its accompanying music video, the first taste of her upcoming debut EP.
Co-produced with Matt Bartlem (Lastlings, Boo Seeka) who conjures the track’s dreamy atmosphere, ‘Co Star’ is a sophisticated pop anthem inspired by the hyper-personalised astrology app of the same name. Specifically the app’s user specific yet totally vague push notifications, which Phoebe received one day (during a mercury retrograde) prompting the hook of the song, “someone wants what you’ve got”.
“I wanted to release an upbeat, fun song capturing that sure and confident feeling of love,” Phoebe details, “the chorus is supposed to hit you with confidence to go up to your crush and tell it how it is!”
Right off the back of her 2020 triple j premiered single ‘Surrender’ and current nominations for ‘Best Live Electronic Act’, ‘Best Pop Act’ and ‘Most Popular Live Act’ at the West Australian Music Industry Awards, Your Girl Pho shows absolutely no signs of slowing down in 2021. BIOGRAPHY
Your Girl Pho is the vivacious on stage persona of Perth based vocalist/producer Phoebe Gunson. In a short time she racked up a slew of coveted support slots with the likes of Post Malone, The Avalanches, E^ST, Kllo, Alice Ivy & spots on acclaimed festivals Groovin’ The Moo, Falls Festival, Laneway, Listen Out, FOMO, Festival Vaiven (Mexico), Music Matters (Singapore), & in 2019 performed her first North American shows when she appeared on the prestigious Canadian Music Week lineup.
The power, sass and closeness of Pho’s voice is bigger than the limitations of genre, and in 2019 Acid Stag acknowledged her ability to experiment with her sound, referring to her single ‘Don’t Wanna’ as an “extremely impressive cross-genre offering that will leave you gobsmacked.” The crown jewel in her fizzing, elasticated blend of genres, Pho’s “soulful vocals” (NYLON) have enjoyed airplay with triple j, Beats 1, FBi Radio, RTRFM, 4ZZZ and more – via her own work as well as collaborations with electronic producers Palais, Tayrell and Ukiyo.
Often backed by her 4-piece band, consisting of drums & two saxophones, Pho’s warm, dynamic vocals and playful attitude certainly command the room. Acknowledgement of her enthralling live show was received in 2019 when she won the West Australian Music award for ‘Best Live Electronic Act’. When Ameli and Paul’s paths crossed in 2016, they immediately felt the urge to fuse their approaches of making music – the succinct productions of Paul, with Ameli’s inherent songlike musicality and sentimental voice. Constantly evolving their live performance over the last few years, the duo stands for a stirring electronic sound that ranges from cinematic excursions to pop-like song structures.
Synthesizers, field recordings, vocals and guitars join forces across their musical playground as the pair creates thrilling dance tunes to dive into and get lost in. Playing live in renowned clubs and festivals, Ameli Paul are increasingly known for casting a spell on their audience. It’s this unique, multifaceted sound that is effortlessly melting genre boundaries and listeners’ hearts around the world.
Now Ameli Paul conjures up a full-spectrum EP that showcases their distinct musical variety, with the brand new three-part package Beyond Reason on MEIOSIS. We had a chance to sit down with the guys from their home city of Cologne to find out more.
Hi guys, great to have you with us for the first time. How are you both doing?
Nice to meet you! We are doing great, hope you too!
Where are you each based at the moment and how has the past twelve months been?
Paul: We are both based in Cologne, Germany. The last twelve months have been quite a rollercoaster. First I was psyched to spend more time in the studio, then I missed touring and meeting new people a lot. But at the end I think we made the best out of it and created a lot of stuff that will see the light of day soon.
Your latest EP ‘Beyond Reason’ has just dropped on MEIOSIS. What are the main influences and creative inspirations behind this record?
Ameli: First of all, our ups and downs of the last year have been the main source of inspiration. So it’s a mixture of melancholia and hope, regression and now-more-than-ever. Besides that, in these times we didn’t think so much about producing music for the dancefloor and felt more freedom in our creative process.
How did the remix from Aera come about?
Paul: We love Aera’s sound for quite some time, for instance his track ‘Terra’ he did with TERR or ‘Running hot’ are amazing. When he joined the same agency the idea occurred to have him on the EP. The remix is a real banger!
When did you two start making records together?
Paul: It was in 2016 that we met for the first time at a festival and arranged a session in the studio which turned into a four hours jam, two months later we uploaded our first track on Soundcloud.
Do you have similar approaches to the way you produce music?
Ameli: We have quite similar taste in music, but our approaches are totally different. That’s maybe one reason why we feel inspired when playing together. I just love jamming together with synthesizers, effects and my voice in an intuitive way. Paul can sit for hours dealing with Ableton, creating beats. We constantly find new ways to fuse our different ways of creating music.
Can you talk to us about your production set up? What instruments and bits of kits were used in the creation of the new release?
Ameli: I used the Prophet Rev2 for chords and melodic elements. My vocals go through a Line6 Delay, DD3 and a Polara Reverb. Paul operates Ableton Live, a Model D, there is a tiny bit of guitar in Beyond Reason and both tracks have pieces of his field-recordings for beat elements and atmo.
How do you spend your time when you’re not making music?
Paul: Besides music, I am working as a psychologist. Since quite some time I have been interested in connecting these two things.
Ameli: At the moment I spend a lot of time hanging out with my flatmates and cooking delicious food, for example with our new pasta machine.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
We very much enjoy listening to Men I Trust and Lous and the Yakuza at the moment.
Once the world can dance together again, where are you most excited to play?
Ameli: Oh I can’t wait to play in little sweaty clubs, people dancing full of joy. But I am also super eager to play on an open air festival stage with great lights.
Paul: I couldn’t agree more!

“The original idea for ‘Pum Pum‘ was created on our Stereosonic tour in Australia, during a studio session in Melbourne, together with singer/songwriter Sonny Wilson and GC. We have worked on a few ideas for a while, but eventually, it all came together when we collaborated with Sevenn. You can really hear the mixture between our music style and the style of Sevenn. We are very happy how this song came together and are excited about its release.
