We all have those deep, life moments; where you feel like you are in the right place, at the right time, doing what you are meant to do. That is how May Davis feels when she performs. Her energy radiates from her in the form of soulful lyrics and raw, genuine vocals. Often compared to the likes of legendary vocalists like Janis Joplin, Stevie Nicks and Norah Jones, Davis has been coined to have ” ….the voice of an angel hit by a Whiskey truck” and is sure to intoxicate audiences with her witty stage presence and folk-inspired Americana music. She released her first Solo Album, Denim Blues, in 2019 and recently became a recipient of AmplifyBC’s Career Development grant.

LISTEN TO TRAP HOUSE HERE
In 2019 Australia’s own Jazzy K’s soulful tone and empowering lyrics turned the heads of some of the biggest players in the U.S music industry when she released her debut single and addressed her own bullying experiences in her song titled “You Are”.
Jazzy spent many months in LA honing her skills as a singer and songwriter and after a chance meeting with Kenny ‘Babyface’ Edmonds the Aussie singer landed an incredible opportunity to work with him and his team including, producer Antonio Dixon and guitar maestro, Eric Jackson.
The team spent several days in recording sessions laying down tracks and vocals, Jazzy didn’t fail to impress.
Further recording sessions followed with various industry heavyweights and a major record deal was presented to her, but Jazzy made the bold decision to ‘pass’ on what would have been perceived as an opportunity of a lifetime, her instinct kicked in and lead her to continue on her musical journey down a different path and ultimately the concept for “Trap House” was born.
“I was offered an opportunity that seemed amazing,” she said. “It was looking perfect but something didn’t feel right when I came home from LA, I had to make a decision and as I was reflecting on my journey so far I remember that I promised myself I would always trust my instincts and I would never change who I am for the industry. That’s when the lyrics for ‘Trap House’ started coming.”
Whilst back in LA and performing at an industry showcase, she caught the eye of the legendary multi-Grammy award winning producer, My Guy Mars (Jay-Z, Drake, Mary J Blige, Snoop Dogg, Drake). The pair hit it off and lead to the creation of her latest R&B pop single, “Trap House” with an important and inspiring message.
“Trap House” has been released to Australian radio this week.

Vancouver Dark Pop Artist Rayne To Release New EP False Love July 30 – Tops One Million Career Streams to Date
Toronto, ON – Vancouver dark pop singer songwriter Rayne is set to release her EP False Love on July 30 via all streaming platforms. At just nineteen, Rayne is gaining attention from fans and the music industry alike. Her catchy, heavy hitting pop choruses, witty, relatable lyrics, and soaring vocals have also caught the ears of Top 40 radio programmers with early support coming from across Canada for her singles ‘Do With That’, and ‘Envious’.
The six song EP opens with ‘Is It Cool If We’re Lonely’, a dark pop track written by Rayne and Tavish Crowe (Carly Rae Jepsen). The song tells the story of an introverted person realizing the importance of being vulnerable and opening up to the people around you.
“My favourite song on the EP is ‘Is It Cool If We’re Lonely’, which I wrote with Tavish over Zoom. It’s the fastest written song to be featured on ‘False Love’ as we had entirely finished writing it in less than two hours,” said Rayne. “As soon as Tavish sent over the demo, I immediately knew I wanted this song on the EP. It’s slightly more dark-pop than all of my prior releases, but it’s a direction that I very much see myself shifting into in the future.”
‘Envious’, the first single from the EP, received over one million radio impressions after being added to KiSS’ radio stations in Toronto, Winnipeg, Ottawa and Kingston. Also written with Tavish Crowe (Carly Rae Jepsen) and Ryan Stewart (Carly Rae Jepsen, Jocelyn Alice), this dance pop track was inspired by a call with one of Rayne‘s friends after she’d seen her ex out with someone new.
“Writing the songs for False Love was really a learning experience for me. I grew so much as an artist and writer over the process, and I think you can hear that growth throughout the tracks”, said Rayne, “There’s some stylistic variety as I was figuring out that really hard dilemma of what I wanted my sound to be. I think I’m a lot closer to that answer now than I was when I first started writing the EP.”
Rayne first started co-writing in late 2018, working with the likes of Tavish Crowe, Andrew Allen, Troy Sampson, Brian Howes, and Ryan Stewart. She quickly found her groove, creating cleverly written songs that balance catchy, heavy hitting choruses and rhythmically driven tracks with lyrics that discuss the darker, sadder aspects of relationships. Her original batch of demos was sent off to an executive at Live Nation Toronto, where she secured her spot playing pre-show for GRAMMY Award winner Billie Eilish in 2019, and later Tyler Shaw in Vancouver.
Her first songs were also sent to Timbaland Productions / Mosley Music Group in LA. After hearing Rayne’s vocals and writing style, they asked her to write topline on tracks by MilliBeatz, a Zurich based producer who has created tracks for Bryson Tiller, Kehlani, Migos, and Rihanna. From there emerged her second single ‘The Low’, which has been streamed over 350,000 times on Spotify since its release early last year.
False Love Track Listing:
1. Is It Cool If We’re Lonely
2. Whos’ Sorry Now
3. Sour Candy
4. Nothing to Bleed For

Multi-Platinum R3HAB and Kelvin Jones Want To Take You “Downtown” With New Deep House Influenced Collaboration
Title: Downtown
Label: CYBERPVNK
Release date: June 18, 2021
If you’ve ever looked for the perfect song to define the feeling of cruising your favorite city right before a night out on the town, look no further than R3HAB‘s new single “Downtown,” which he made in collaboration with Kelvin Jones. Taking a break from the sounds of traditional electronic music, R3HAB cultivates the ultimate cool-kid vibe on “Downtown” with a deep, minimal bassline. The nonchalant and yet groovy mood is complemented by Kelvin‘s soulful vocals, which paint a complete picture of being whisked into a night of luxury amid the big city lights. “Downtown” follows R3HAB‘s recent big collaboration “Pues” with Luis Fonsi and Sean Paul, which saw the Dutch/Moroccan artist exploring with Latin and R&B influences. Check out what Kelvin and R3HAB have to say about their new track below:
“‘Downtown‘ is a club-inspired record with a bouncy beat drop and a pulsing bassline that support powerful vocals from Kelvin Jones. We wanted to capture the magic of the perfect night in the city. You’re with your friends, the club’s bass is beating through your blood, your legs are sore from dancing all night, you feel invincible.” – R3HAB
“‘Downtown‘ is a mood in a song! We imagined how it would feel to be in New York cruising downtown in a Cadillac and what song you’d want to hear. This inspired the whole song. In an era where every song is overloaded with things going on, we decided to go against that and keep it as minimal and laid back as we could whilst still keeping the groove going.” – Kelvin Jones
Dutch–Moroccan Multi-Platinum DJ and producer Fadil El Ghoul, better known as R3HAB, has been trailblazing his way through dance music for the better part of the last decade. From his breakthrough remixes for Rihanna, Drake, Taylor Swift, Calvin Harris, The Chainsmokers, Lady Gaga, to anthems such as Gold– and Platinum-certified “All Around The World (La La La)” and “Lullaby,” to his collaborations with the likes of Luis Fonsi, Sean Paul, ZAYN, Andy Grammer, Sofia Carson, Smokepurpp, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Astrid S, Olivia Holt and more, R3HAB has proven to be one of the most talented and forward-thinking artists in the game, whose work collected over 5B streams to date. In 2016 R3HAB founded his label CYB3RPVNK, which has passed 2B streams across all platforms since its inception. R3HAB himself continues to evolve and diversify his sound by working with a variety of artists around the globe, pushing the boundaries of dance music as he collaborates across genres and languages. In 2020 alone R3HAB celebrated over 900M Spotify streams. He is currently the most discovered artist on Spotify, one of Spotify‘s top 150 most streamed artists across all genres worldwide, and ranked #13 on prestigious DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs chart. With his combination of innate artistry and innovative attitude, in 2021 R3HAB is continuing his journey among electronic music’s elite.
Kelvin Jones has achieved Spotify plays and YouTube views counted in millions, racked up over 3M monthly listeners on Spotify and earned Gold and Platinum records. “Downtown” is the successor to Kelvin Jones‘ most recent releases “Pillow” and “Don’t Let Me Go,” a Top 10 track on German radio, and “Love To Go,” a collaboration with Lost Frequencies & Zonderling. The latter garnered over 75M streams on Spotify alone, peaked #2 on German Airplay chart, and has been certified Gold in The Netherlands and Platinum in Belgium. In 2015, his hit single “Call You Home” was one of the Top 10 radio tracks of the year in Germany and reached Gold status. “Only Thing We Know” with Alle Farben and YouNotUs has accumulated over 50M plays on Spotify, nearly 18M views on YouTube, peaked #1 on German Airplay chart, and is certified Gold. “Seventeen” – another collaborative track with YouNotUs, peaked #3 on the German airplay chart.

https://backl.ink/146802140To celebrate the release of Have Like Like that on Off Leash Records, we sat down with Lucas (PKA Health Club) for a chat about where things are for him and the music, right now.
Greetings Lucas, for those that don’t know about Health Club, how long have you been at this project and how would you describe the music?
Hello! I’ve been writing music under Health Club for around 3 or 4 years now. When I first started the project I was listening to and influenced by a lot of soul, funk and neo soul, which led me to this sort of pop/neo soul output. I’ve always really enjoyed lower tempos; they leave a lot of space between the beats and allow for more explorations in groove.
This new track of yours “Have It Like That” on Off Leash Records, is a funky, soulful record. The vocals remind me a little of early UK dance, but then there’s an almost American style janggly hip-hop beat plus some very Australian usage of the saw synths. Is it deliberate for you to merge styles or is that something that just happened organically?
I think initially I had leaned into some more of the UK feel on an earlier version – using some parallel harmony, 909s n what not but at some point, I just started from scratch and played with a new, more soulful angle. It all just unwound from there and I found myself throwing a slap bass in the chorus. I do love intentional use of juxtapositions or clashing of ideas but in this case, I think it just happened.
Are there specific influences that contributed to the tone of this track? If so, who are they?
Pharrell is always a massive influence, and if you get down to it a lot of the more current influences would also lead back to him too. People like Lynda Dawn, kaytranada, Mndsgn & Toro y Moi; are very key components of the sound I’ve created with this release. Can’t forget to mention Patrice Rushen, I don’t think I could go a couple days without listening to her.
Some of your more recent singles have been closer to a house/disco tempo. Are we gonna hear you stick around in these more open grooves for a while?
Definitely. I’ve been DJing a lot over the past year or two – more than I have in years. I’ve been listening to and playing heaps of late 80s and 90s stuff, especially Italo and Dream House. I think I’d like to explore writing some actual club music very soon.
For the production nerds out there, are there any favourite instruments, plugins or tools that can be heard on “Have It Like That” and what do you like about them?
A lot of the lead and mono sounds on this one are from an sh101 remake. The original was my first synth and when they brought the modern remake out, I had to get it. I’ve used Soundtoys ‘Crystallizer’ for some of the lush background sonics too, definitely worth giving that thing some praise. And, on every song, I’ve used the prophet 08 – in this case, for the big saw pads in the chorus.
No doubt, Electronic music is in a strange place worldwide with limited capacities and not much of a festival scene. How has Queensland been of late? Are you and your contemporaries able to go out and play shows? How do they feel?
It’s taken some time but we’re back to what feels like normal. The limited capacity is still in place of course, and is quite a point of tension, with other areas of society seemingly “immune” to covid safety restrictions and procedures. Friends are throwing shows nearly every weekend, to smaller and maybe more dedicated crowds. People are aware of the limited release, so the tickets are bought up quick and the attendance is always in high spirits. I’ve even caught some shows from international artists which seems crazy.
On, that; If you could play support to any international headliner, who would it be and why would that be an awesome show for Health Club?
Probably someone like Erika De Casier or Toro y Moi. I feel like any show they would do would be awesome regardless of my involvement, and would be great to be a part of it.
What about in the studio? Who would be a dream collaboration for Health Club and why do you think it would work?
Adam Bainbridge (Kindness) or Joseph Mount (Metronomy). They’re not exactly current influences on the music I’ve released but they’re two of the biggest contributors to my high school obsession with music. They’re both artists that I feel pushed pop music in really interesting directions and reference some great records in their own ways. I’d like to think over the years I’ve found a lot of the same influences that drove them to make their work and would hopefully have a common ground to draw inspiration from.
What’s next for Health Club is there anything you’d like to leave us with?
More music, and hopefully soon. Earlier this year I played a live show with my friend Millie, the first I’d played in years. It left me excited to work on it further and look into performing more live shows in the near future.
