Title: Moonlight
Label: Fly Over Records
After debuting its new imprint Fly Over Records with REGGIO‘s hard-hitting big-room house track “Fantasy” last month, NFT-backed label Purple Fly now welcomes Portugal‘s top DJ Diego Miranda and British/Greek duo Mad M.A.C. to their ranks with the new single “Moonlight,” featuring Brazilian singer/songwriter Lucas Pretti. The label keeps up their diverse repertoire with this groovy progressive gem, featuring soulful vocals and a deep, driving bassline that begs for late-night soirees. It’s a welcome addition to REGGIO‘s big-room release, setting up Fly Over to be positioned as a place for festival-oriented music and beyond. Although Fly Over serves as a space for growing artists, Diego Miranda has been making scenes in his native Portugal for over a decade. “Moonlight” is truly a global creation, with Diego joining forces with British/Greek duo MAD M.A.C., who earlier worked with the likes of Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Quintino, Yves V.
Purple Fly is an independent imprint utilizing cryptocurrency’s hottest frontier as a platform for the spectrum of electronic music, which previously released singles from the likes of Fatman Scoop, Shaquille O’Neal, DJ SODA, Ahin of MOMOLAND, BLVD., Laidback Luke, Sevenn, and more. Purple Fly‘s goal is to support collaborations of all forms of art, connecting music and stunning visuals for an immersive experience that spans the sonic realms of trance to trap. The label releases an NFT directly on its official website with each music drop, enabling artists to have access to direct support from their fan base while expressing their creativity. Diego Miranda has been voted as one of the DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs for 11 consecutive years, and in 2022 he will perform at Tomorrowland for the 5th time in a row. He’s also the only Portuguese DJ nominated by his homeland’s MTV as the Best Portuguese Artist 2 years in a row. He previously released on Smash The House, Revealed, Mixmash, Sony Music, and more.
“Don’t Touch My Rhinestones”, will be his second single release on the road to his long awaited “Baby Blue” EP. This song is sure to highlight his sweet and salty vocals bedazzled with a message of standing one’s own ground and finding self empowerment. Robert Adam
Whether it’s rhinestoning his outfit or graduating with honours, he is anything but one dimensional.
I’m in LA!
How did you first start playing music?
I started playing piano when I was a kid which eventually led me to songwriting and performing. I’ve always been a fan of music and I love being able to be an artist and make my own music now.
What’s been happening recently?
A lot! I have been busy recording and planning my song releases.
Your latest single ‘Shut Up!’ came out on Feb 4; what influenced the sound and songwriting?
I wanted to create a song that had attitude and spunk. The lyrics reference themes of royalty and taking back your power through your individuality. I wanted the production to be simple, but powerful because the lyrics are the focal point of the track.
How did you go about writing ‘Shut Up!’?
I wrote “Shut Up!” as a sequel to my song “Too Hot.” Both songs celebrate individuality and being authentic to yourself no matter how much others want to dim your light. It’s about blocking the haters and being confident in your identity.
Where and when did you record/produce/master?
The overall process for “Shut Up!” was very quick. I finished the writing, recording, and mastering in about 3 weeks. I made the song in December 2021 and I’m releasing it now!
How has the pandemic affected your process?
The pandemic has allowed me to focus on music and find my voice. I’ve been writing every day and formulating a pop sound that beat represents me as an artist.
What does your other current single ‘Too Hot’ mean to you?
“Too Hot” is special to me because it’s the song that inspired me to write more unapologetic pop songs like “Shut Up!” I want to bring that fierce pop energy back to the music industry like how it was in the late 2000s early 2010s.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
I’ve been listening to a lot of Noga Erez.
What do you like to do away from music?
I love being active whether that’s playing tennis, hiking, or rock climbing.
What’s planned for 2022?
The plan is to continue to release music and hopefully play some live shows!
Favourite food and place to hang out?
I really like sushi and Mexican food. If I’m not making music, I am usually hanging out outside like at the beach or in the hills on a hike.

With the release comes a dynamic music video that is a rambunctious homage to the classic film, shot by Videohead (Phil Fresh, Lil Spacely, Mel Bailey) and directed by Raghav Rampal. On the collaboration, Rampal says, “Our main goal with this video was to pay homage to the 2003 original Oldboy by Park Chan-wook, but 1300-ify it. The movie is so iconic and stylised, and has a lot of jaw-dropping scenes, so our approach was to pick the scenes we thought were the most iconic, and put each rapper into those scenes, as if they’re Oh Dae-su, so it would feel like the movie. The team (Tara, Elle, Maggie & Elijah) put a lot of work into re-creating the locations, costume and make-up for the perfect 1300-to-Oldboy balance, which all came alive through Tom’s cinematography, and Adam’s editing. It was also just the funnest shoot we’ve all had!”
Transposing the energy of their records to an exhilarating, boisterous live show, 1300 have already claimed a slew of notable support slots, appearing alongside Genesis Owusu, PNAU, Shady Nasty, Jono Ma, Taka Perry, 3K, Kota Banks and more. Quickly consolidating their reputation as a multifaceted and burgeoning force in the scene, they have already amassed over 500,000 Spotify streams and garnered playlist support from triple j and triple j Unearthed as a Feature Artist, alongside earned praise from outlets for their “hip-hop-inspired brew that is as sharp as it is palatable” by Rolling Stone Australia, a “refreshing take on Korean rap” by Acclaim and “unmatchable chemistry” by Purple Sneakers amongst others.
Comprised of rappers rako, goyo, DALI HART, producer-singer Nerdie, and producer pokari.sweat, 1300 subsume the raw volatility of Soundcloud rap and the high-budget sheen of K-hip hop, formulating a sound that cannot be understood or defined in pure stylistic terms. Built from everything goes studio sessions, their music is instead caught in a state of endless dynamism that never ceases to electrify or surprise, bottling the potential of a group animated by their boundless creativity, the individual members coming together like particles in the Large Hadron Collider that is 1300. What ties it all together is the group’s uncompromising pursuit of raucous energy, a constant momentum, and intensity born in-studio sessions that is then given shape and sound through their music.

Looking ahead to the release of his long awaited debut album Planet Oasis in April, producer and sonic curator extraordinaire Just A Gent gives fans another taste of the bigger picture in new single ‘Who Would Have Thought’.
A collaboration with West Coast hip hop firebrand Arno Faraji, the newest release from Just A Gent highlights both his love for finding new inspiration and sounds, and also his pure knack for bringing unique voices together into the mix with his own honed style. The execution of it all = effortlessly engaging for maximum entertainment.
Recorded by Just A Gent in Mindaribba on Wonnarua Country (Maitland, NSW), he reunited with Faraji after having first worked with him on the latter’s track ‘Bass Jumpin’. Working remotely with one another, ‘Who Would Have Thought’ was born and as Just A Gent says, Faraji’s added talents as a producer elevated the final product.
“‘Who Would Have Thought’ is a tune to listen to while you reflect back and appreciate everything you have done and all the hard work you put it to get to this point in your journey. We wanted to give you that nostalgic feel and take you to another world.
I made the beat earlier this year and having worked with Arno in the past on his tune ‘Bass Jumpin’ I instantly imagined him on this one, so I flicked it over to him and thankfully he loved it. A week later he flicked back a demo and after a call or two and some back and forths we had it. Arno is a kickass producer himself so he was able to record his takes at home and I just mixed them to taste.”
JUST A GENT
“I wrote the lyrics to this track a little while ago, as I was leaving a state of physical and mental exhaustion, trying to find ways to motivate myself and charge up. It was one of those times when the pursuit was also the reward and that was enough to inspire a lot outta me. “Who would’ve thought I’d make it this far” is like a mantra to inspire that long game hustle but also help you reflect on how far you came & keep going. If this track can work in a way that can inspire a thirst for more in anybody I’m happy!”
ARNO FARAJI
2021 was a busy year for Just A Gent, releasing a string of successful releases throughout the year including ‘Aliens’, ‘Island Fever’ and ‘Swallowed Up’ – all three dictating the journey the producer was charting for himself as he worked his way towards Planet Oasis.
The album, due out April 1st, will mark a touchstone moment for Just A Gent, whose career to date has seen him become an in-demand name on club and festival circuits, buoyed on by multiple EP collections that have shown his natural talent.

“Legacy on the whole seeks to trigger change in the here and now. “Aussie Aussie”, the album’s catchiest song, is a sardonic yet no-less-harrowing broadside against police brutality. “- Rolling Stone “But there’s a satirical edge to ‘Aussie Aussie’ that gives it a different flavour to a straight-up protest anthem. It’s tongue-in-cheek, managing to poke fun at what is a sacred cow to some parts of Australia’s cultural identity while simultaneously slaughtering it.” – triple j |

Today Birdz releases the official video for his single ‘Aussie, Aussie‘, directed by award-winning Melbourne-based director, Lilah Benetti and produced by top filmmaker Tig Terera and cinematographer Jesse Lane. Lifted from his acclaimed second LP LEGACY, ‘Aussie, Aussie’ is in true Birdz style, unapologetic in its themes and a wider motif of the album, reading like an open letter to his son. The prominent rapper and proud Butchulla man, says of the song, “Aussie Aussie” is a song about the harsh realities we endure as Blakfullas and challenges the idea of “Aussie” nationalism – a concept that is dependent on the erasure of Blak voices. Blak deaths in custody, police brutality, forced child removal, these are realities that a majority of Australians are either still unaware of or remain wilfully ignorant towards. Governments and police attempt to silence us on a daily basis, denying the truth about what’s been happening since 1788. That’s why I write songs like “Aussie Aussie” – it’s giving voice to the unheard and a space for our truth to live unapologetically. I hope it can also provide a starting point for those wanting to learn more about what’s really going on in this country. “ The official video was shot on Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country and Dja Dja Wurrung Country, with the vision for the clip led purely by the music. The visual narrative follows a non-linear journey; we see layered representations of strength, community and carefree Blak joy while the ‘backseat’ perspective makes us feel like an onlooker as we move through the changing landscapes that follow a metaphorical ‘day in the life’ flow. Director Lilah Benetti explains further, “The audience is made aware of their own presence through Birdz close up performance. It’s delivered straight to the camera, directly to us, which is an important part of the overall communication of the concept. It is a really intimate and authentic performance and I think it really captures Birdz calm, charisma and attitude.” |
Birdz will embark on his national headline tour, beginning in Sydney on April 1, then Brisbane on April 2 and Adelaide on April 8, before making an appearance at Shepparton’s Land of Plenty Festival on April 9 then bringing his string of shows to a close at hometown Melbourne on April 22. Presented by triple j, Birdz’s national tour will be a celebration of his unique brand of honest, powerful hip-hop, showcasing music from LEGACY as well as favourites his fans know and love. Special guests will include Narli, The Ancient Bloods, Marlon x Rulla and Jay Gabriel.
Raised in Katherine, Northern Territory and now based in Naarm / Melbourne, Birdz took to crafting his career-shaping second record alongside the production hand of longtime collaborator and friend, trials, plus hand-selected some of Australia’s best-loved artists to feature including Fred Leone, Ngaiire, Thom Crawford and Missy Higgins. On release, the album was chosen as feature album on triple j and Radio Adelaide.
As one of Bad Apples Music’s most established signees, in 2021, Birdz appeared on ABC’s The Set with Missy Higgins, featured on triple j and ABC iview’s RAP IT UP documentary series and is the face of a nationwide ‘Strong Mob’ health campaign.
His 2017 debut album Train Of Thought was received with widespread acclaim. The album won the Australian Independent Record Label Associations’ title of Best Independent Hip Hop Album, was shortlisted for the Australian Music Prize, nominated for Music Victoria’s Best Hip Hop Album and was simultaneously loved by community radio.

Where are you currently based?
We are based in Frankfurt Germany.
How did Teenage Mutants form?
We have been friends for over 18 years now. We came together through early rave experiences in Frankfurt and started DJing around 2002 and some years later began to produce tracks. So 2010 we started the Project ‘Teenage Mutants’ with no idea where it was headed!
What’s been happening recently?
We are still in the pandemic so we are producing a lot of music and from time to time we have the luck to play a gig. Hopefully 2022 will be the change we need to get back to normal DJ Life.
Please tell us about your current projects:
End of 2020 we started our own label „TRAGEDIE“ a music and fashion brand. This takes most of the time at the moment. Beside this and Teenage Mutants we running an Event and Artist Agency called ‘Wir Sind Verboten’. We are running events in Germany, Europe and around the world.
What influences your sound and songwriting?
Mostly the 80’s. The melodies and baselines from that time are always a good inspiration to create something new. We don’t produce after rules. We make our own techno sound.
How do you usually go about writing music?
Mostly we start with a drum groove and just let it go. Synths and Sounds will be added step by step just how with the flow, how we will it.
How’s the overseas scene been treating you?
OZ was always a great experience. Actually one of the best countries to travel and to play. People are always smiling and having a good time. Really excited to come back.
You’re coming to Melbourne to play Shelter Festival, what do you have in store for this show?
We have 3 new EPs which are ready to be tested on the big floor. They will show the people our way of techno music.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
The Dream Academy – New Light
What do you like to do away from music?
Good Food and Good Wine.
What’s planned for 2022?
To play a lot of gigs and release our music and of course to play Shelter at Sea Works in Melbourne on 2 April!

Spring Loaded has well and truly declared a triumphant return to live music, with the iconic Aussie festival set to storm Hastings Foreshore Reserve on the Mornington Peninsula next Saturday February 12, and there are tickets still available. The colossal lineup is dripping in 90s Aussie alt rock nostalgia and boasts a haul of the decade’s most celebrated acts.
Sharing the event program today, gates will open at 12.30pm and Screamfeeder will kick things off at 1.45pm, before The Fauves jump on at 2.30pm, Custard at 3.15pm, Killing Heidi at 4pm, Frenzal Rhomb at 5pm, Regurgitator at 6pm, You Am I at 7.15pm and Grinspoon at 8.45pm to headline the ultimate day of Aussie rock.
The man who engineered this ripper opportunity for us all to relive our youth and celebrate the return of live music, Empire’s Marc Christowski is thrilled to be getting another Spring Loaded event away, saying, “We are beyond excited to finally be able to stage Spring Loaded on the Mornington Peninsula, it’s going to be a massive explosion of rock after two years of uncertainty. We can’t wait to party like it’s 1996 and bring you the bands you love from the 90s!”
“We only managed two Spring Loaded events last year before everything went crazy,” explains Grinspoon frontman Phil Jamieson. “Both gigs were quite emotional because it had been so long since anyone had seen anyone, especially in the backstage area. Not just artists and band members, but crew and people we love, so it was a massive reunion backstage. Seeing grey hairs and beards, it’s a long way from Homebake ’98, but the music hasn’t changed. What was really special about those gigs was the support and comraderie between all the groups and then to see a crowd that was excited to be there as well.”
Pumped to hit the Spring Loaded stage at Hastings Foreshore Reserve, Jamieson says,“I can’t actually believe it’s real. You Am I, Regurgitator, the best of the best – Frenzal, Killing Heidi, Custard,The Fauves, Screamfeeder… so you know, there’s nothing really bad about it, it’s hard to hate, and then you get me doing silly dancing and clapping, what could possibly go wrong?! Hope to see you all there, this is a good news story about how there’s actually a festival going ahead!”
Covering all bases, the festival will be bustling with craft beer and an enviable collection of the locale’s cherry-picked food trucks. Spring Loaded is a fully licensed 18+ event, strictly no BYO alcohol. It is an outdoor event and will go ahead rain, hail or shine. No tables, tents, sun shelters or umbrellas are permitted, punters are urged to bring ponchos/raincoats and gumboots if rain is forecast. Picnic rugs and low camp chairs are permitted, as well as snack food in small cooler bags, sealed bottles of water, and there will be water refill stations. And with onsite parking available at the point of entry, there’s no excuse not to come and enjoy a rocking day out on the glorious Mornington Peninsula!
The Spring Loaded festival will be held with a commitment to a COVID Safe environment. Festival organisers will work closely with and comply with all requirements of the public health authorities in respect of this show.
There are tickets still available from Ticketek and Oztix.
