SUPATHICK debut rich new EP, IN THE THICK OF IT

by the partae September 28, 2022

Threading electro-pop with dashes of funk groove, hints of R&B and an overarching love for fresh and sharp pop sensibilities, dynamic group SUPATHICK reveal their sophomore EP, In The Thick Of It. The four track release shows us SUPATHICK operating at a new creative peak: revelling in new influences while refining the ones that have made them such an endearing group to watch in recent years.

Built around Christian Zappia’s natural songwriting skills and bolstered by equally talented musicians and the undeniably gorgeous vocals of Keely Brittain, the SUPATHICK appeal has always focused on the group’s sharp ear for melody and mixture of sounds in making something that feels very current. The appeal of their music has been reflected in the band’s stats; with over 40,000 monthly listeners on Spotify alone, close to 20,000 monthly channel views on YouTube, and a performance history that has seen SUPATHICK excel as headliners and supports for artists including Ocean Alley, The Veronicas, Spacey Jane, Great Gable and The Babe Rainbow.

In The Thick Of It weaves its own tapestry while keeping the core sonic identity featured on previous SUPATHICK material very much alive.

Featuring singles ‘Love Back’ and ‘Own My Mind’, In The Thick Of It weaves expert basslines with melodies that remain in the listener’s head. Thematically about love, relationships and self-awareness, the EP takes the listener on a journey as Zappia navigates his way through some unique experiences against a soundtrack that is irresistible to get around.

“This second EP, for me, is really about learning to trust my own instincts musically and creatively. Each song lives in its own world and has its own colours, which I think happened more naturally than intentionally.

‘Healin’, ‘Love Back’ and ‘Own My Mind’ are all love songs to an extent but differ in the angle they take, and Little Bit More is more of a reflective track I wrote after a talk with my Dad. He told me when John D Rockefeller was asked, “How much money is enough money?” he answered with, “Just a little bit more”. And that guy was filthy rich. So it’s kinda a slow-down-and-smell-the-flowers type vibe.”
CHRISTIAN ZAPPIA, SUPATHICK

EP Art by: Cedric Tang

In making this EP, SUPATHICK returned to Tone City Recording in Perth where they worked with longtime collaborator and producer, Sam Ford (Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, POND, Birds of Tokyo, Art vs. Science). The final result is a glistening record of music that demonstrates the evolution of SUPATHICK from their breakthrough sounds in 2020 on the likes of ‘I’m There’ and ‘100 Miles’, through to the finessed and forward-thinking ambition of ‘Healin’ and ‘Own My Mind’ this year.

“We had a much longer time to record these songs this time round, and I think each song has a little more depth because of that. We had a bunch of fun blending live and programmed drums, and venturing into that slightly more sparkly, HIFI world with Sam Ford from Tone City.”
CHRISTIAN ZAPPIA, SUPATHICK

PRAISE FOR SUPATHICK

“A flurry of funk garnished with disco and soul, Supathick’s sound can’t help but get butts off seats and onto a dancefloor.”

Date: 14th – 16th August, 2023
Location: Prestwold Hall Estate, Loughborough

Register: https://www.dcentralize.io

DCentralize Festival will put the power back in the hands of the music community by transitioning into a DAO, enabling token-holders to participate in decision-making of the festival.

By joining the DCentralize community, tokenholders will become part of a grand collaboration driven by shared values and transparent communications, which levels the playing field making access available to all.

Driven by blockchain technology, DCentralize is a hybrid music festival and conference that will be held at Prestwold Hall Estate in August 2023. The live event will be streamed simultaneously in a custom-built metaverse hosted by Passage.
DCentralize Festival is on a mission to empower artists and enact social change through decentralization as the first festival brand to be tokenized and fully-owned by its community.

Bridging the music and tech sectors, DCentralize aims to drive the evolution of the music industry using the latest Web3 technologies.

DCentralize and its partners will host a series of regular workshops – before and during the festival – to bootstrap artists and attendees with the knowledge of how to transition into Web3 with confidence. This is a clear demonstration of the team’s strong community focus and commitment to inform and empower people both within and outside the blockchain space.
DCentralize will ultimately transition into a DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization),  which will enable its tokenholders to participate in the management and decision-making of the festival in a fair and transparent way. Tokenholders will get voting rights on key decisions such as lineups, stage design, core management, festival expansion and more.

By joining the DCentralize community, tokenholders will become part of a grand collaboration driven by shared values and transparent communications, which levels the playing field making access available to all.

As part of a global promotional tour to drive awareness to the project, the DCentralize team will be hosting a series of events for some of the world’s leading Web3 summits and conferences. Supporting Web3 artists and musicians by giving them a platform to showcase their skills in a live environment is a key aspect of the DCentralize team’s mission.

Founder Ian Kerr has many years of management, event organization and logistics behind him and now heads into a bold new chapter with DCentralize. Ian says:

“DCentralize is already flying the flag for our beliefs. We work as a core community of professionals from the worlds of Web3, cryptocurrency, event management, travel, music, art and more. Working in a decentralized model means that the community can overcome the constraints of tradition, being supported by a network of specialist advisors.”
Technical and Creative Director Joe Crossley is the founder of Astral Projekt, an award-winning creative studio working in Web3 and immersive media. Joe is at the forefront of cutting-edge technologies. He specializes in augmented reality and projection mapping.

Music Coordinator Sarah Main is an acclaimed Ibiza DJ, producer, NFT artist and event organizer whose entire life has been spent submerged in art, music, and mixed reality.

Andy Raisen, Head of Community Engagement says “DCentralize is utilizing the forces of Web3 to change how we all live our lives, helping to build a better world that’s open to all, and where you can have a real influence on the cultural movements that matter most to you.”

Break Out the Bubblegum for Killed By Cupid’s Debut EP ‘The Sickly Sweet’

by the partae September 27, 2022
written by the partae

Previous Support for Killed by Cupid

“It’s a track that will send you right back to your scene days, with its lashings of pop-punk, emo, and hyper-pop and its delectable trap beats.” (Hysteria Mag)

“Jesse Cumes, isn’t holding back with the new project, as “Magic” out the gate shows off his exuberant and unique style.” (New Noise)

“These emotions are laid bare, soaked in modern pop-laden emo-punk and delivered with an early-2000’s-tinged punch that is sure to leave a lasting impact.
(HEAVY Mag)

Stream ‘The Sickly Sweet’

Adelaide/Tarndanya-based bubblegum emo act, Killed by Cupid, brings a gobstopper with their debut EP ‘The Sickly Sweet’ dropping September 23.

Jesse Cumes’ new solo project–Killed by Cupid–stirs a concoction of hyperpop, pop-punk and 2000s alt-pop delivered as emotional candy. Sweet to the lips, but leaving a bitter taste, ‘The Sickly Sweet’ is reminiscent of the rawness of heart-break and the struggle of overcoming mental illness. Striking at the emerging new-wave emo scene, Killed by Cupid has already found stirred interest with their debut ‘Magic’ and follow-up release ‘Sugar’, building anticipation ahead of ‘The Sickly Sweet’ EP.

‘The Sickly Sweet’ is a self-explanatory excerpt from Cumes, exploring the ramifications of a finished relationship, the gripe with one’s mental health and the anguish derived from self-reflection and growth when journeying through life. Although playful at times, ‘The Sickly Sweet’ is Cumes’ exploration into their growth, values and inner-workings. Furthering their understanding into the innate attraction to opposites and rummaging for the tools necessary to work through their mental health.

The EP starts with debut track ‘Magic’, accenting the self-directed disgust of spiralling after a breakup. Mixing elements of cloud rap and pop-punk, ‘Magic’ makes an instant nostalgic emo anthem by intertwining aspects of 2000s classics and trap.

Followed up by the boisterous banger, ‘Toxic’, Killed By Cupid opens with a playful diss track before turning the target to their head.

‘Cotton Candy Boy Toy’ redirects the focus of the EP back towards understanding motivations for relationships, exploring the intrinsic attraction to opposites and how this can coax fatal flaws.

Lead single, ‘Sugar feat. Jack Cumes’, delves into the process of freeing yourself from relationships that are detrimental to your mental health–searching for strategies for confidence in independence.

Closing ‘The Sickly Sweet’ is ‘Forget It’ and ‘GO2BED’. Harnessing 808 bass lines, electro-pop synths and angelically autotuned melodies to portray the post-relationship depression, these two tracks wrap the release up in a vacuum sealed candy wrapper stamped with growth and newfound grit.

From top to bottom, ‘The Sickly Sweet’ presents the process of development across the challenging process of self-reflection and growth. Cumes provides insight:

“‘The Sickly Sweet EP’ is about a breakup I went through and the spiral of self-destructive tendencies and poor coping mechanisms that followed. The EP covers the highs and lows of mental illness and heartbreak while attempting to move on from toxic relationships.”

Killed by Cupid has surfaced quickly with community radio play from Radio Adelaide, 4ZZZ, Southern FM and 5ZZZ as well as notable media outlets Hysteria Mag, New Noise Mag and HEAVY Mag.

Killed By Cupid’s killer EP, ‘The Sickly Sweet’ drops on September 23. Don’t forget to bring bubblegum, beer and bangles to their launch on November 25 at Adelaide’s Enigma Bar.

Inferiority Complex

by the partae September 27, 2022
written by the partae
Where are you currently based?

El – We are all currently based in and around Melbourne in Victoria.

How did you first start playing music?

El – I’ve always been playing music and singing. There would always be music in the house, my dad was in many bands and did a few tours around the UK. Having grown up around so much music, singing naturally came first and I remember playing my grandad’s old Casio keyboard when I was really young. I believed I was a world class pianist, when in fact I was just smashing the keys… I bet it sounded SO good!

What’s been happening recently?

El – Recently we’ve been in the studio to record some new songs to follow up ‘Till Death Do Us Part.’  We’re so excited for everyone to hear them!  Once recording was done we jumped straight into rehearsals to get prepared to play the new songs live.

Your latest single ‘Till Death Do Us Part’ is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting?

El – The way our latest single ‘Till Death Do Us Part’ came about was a very enjoyable process. The guys had already had the instrumental ready and waiting, the first time I’d heard it I wasn’t even in the band officially. They handed me the song and said “have fun”. So the biggest thing that influenced the sound was perhaps the songwriting process itself, and the length of time that it took.

How did you go about writing this single?

El – I came up with the concept of this single in an almost ritual type way. ( I love me some universal entities) I lit some candles, saged and asked whoever/whatever was around to allow me to tell their story. From that came the concept of a married couple in a rocky relationship of infidelity and lies, the woman decides to end the suffering she feels and makes a deal with the devil and some dark forces to get revenge. Instrumentally, the others spent a long time refining the song. Changing and honing in on each miniscule part including background arrangements until everything assisted with the prosody of the piece.

Where and when did you record/produce/master and who did you work with?

Joseph – The track was produced by Callan Orr (Dream On Dreamer)  Production initially began at his studio in Melbourne CBD back in early 2021. Due to some line-up changes throughout that year, we re-recorded vocals with Darcy Handley (Terra) in the middle of this year!

How did you approach the recording process?

Joseph – We always approach the recording process the same way, which is to have fully realised demo tracks going in.  It means that we can record with any combination of ‘scratch tracks’ that we want. It also allows the producer to understand our vision and expand upon it from there, particularly when it comes to synth tones and orchestrations.  This allows us to maximise our studio time as composition is already complete and we can focus on capturing the best performances.  That being said we definitely still allow some room for spontaneous creativity as well!

What does this single mean to you?

El – The single means something different to everyone in the band. To me it’s new beginnings, not only by way of it being the first song I wrote with Inferiority Complex, but also new beginnings after hard and testing times. It’s about coming out at the other end strong and powerful.

Who are you listening to at the moment?

El – At the moment, I’ve really been enjoying some jazz. I only really listen to music when I need a bit of a brain break, so I chuck on some Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald (her scatting itches my brain very nicely)

What do you like to do away from music?

El – When I’m not doing music and gigging (WHICH I LOVE!) I’m impulse-spending and having many good nights out with great humans! Chuck in a little crying and hair dye and that’s my life!

What’s planned for the remainder of 2022 going into 2023?

El – Heading into 2023 we have so much in store, from new merch to new music and everything in between! Gotta keep you guessing though, can’t spill too many secrets!  But we can assure you it’s going to be fantastic and we can’t wait to share it!

Favourite food and place to hangout?

Joseph –If we had to pick one food that epitomized our band, it would probably have to be pizza. Mostly because that’s what we tend to eat together before a gig.  As for hanging out, the concerts and gigs of other great bands!

ABLE JOSEPH releases tender, acoustic guitar pop track ‘LONELY LA’

by the partae September 26, 2022
written by the partae

Telling an intimate story about changing lives and circumstance ‘Lonely LA’ proves Able Joseph’s talent for writing heartfelt mid-tempo classics. The song surrounds the listener with sentimental melodies, captivating production and an outro that begs to be sung by a crowd, acapella into the night sky.

Already racking up a legion of followers (80K+ on Spotify alone), Able is a stellar talent, signed to Sydney indie label Double Drummer, home to Greta Stanley, Dominic Breen and Cousin Tony’s Brand New Firebird.

Speaking of the tender meaning behind the new single, Able says ‘There’s a beautiful side to two people having to adjust to life’s curveballs and facing change as a team — be that changing dreams, homes, realities… this isn’t a love song, it’s a relationship song.’

Able Joseph

Showcasing his creative spark and versatility as a storyteller, the cosmic journeyman enlisted gifted animators, LA based, award-winning Trevor Conrad and Edinburgh based Karina Budnariu to work with him on the visuals for ‘Lonely LA,’ as part of Able Joseph’s unfolding narrative. Coming together in a sonic union of talented musicians, ‘Lonely LA’ was produced by Grant Konemann (Glades) in Sydney and off the shoulders of Orion, with mixing and mastering by Matthew Neighbour
(Matt Corby, Tash Sultana).

WATCH VISUALISER

‘This song is a homage to songwriting. We wanted to keep the structure as simple as possible but still weave in different moments and transitions that take you somewhere unexpected. The outro is a deeply honest conversation between two people and the production reflects that; it’s closer to the mic, more intimate and raw. I’m really proud of the story we tell.’

Able Joseph

‘Lonely LA’ follows on from ‘SOLO’ which received a slew of support earlier this year, including triple j Home and Hosed airplay and Apple playlisting (Amped Up and New In Alternative). He has supported Cousin Tony’s Brand Firebird on tour and his collaborators include UK dance artist GRUM. Together they secured playlisting support on Spotify (Dance Rising, New Music Friday, Trance Mission, Nightrider) and Apple (New In Dance, Trance and Progressive) with over 2 million streams on Spotify and counting. Able has previously co-written with a stellar list of acts including Jaguar Jonze, Hauskey, Bec Sandridge, Jordie Ireland, Third Party, Yorke, Xavier Dunn, Cyrus, Eliott and Woodes.

PRAISE FOR ABLE JOSEPH

“A big slice of heartfelt, rousing indie that could bring a big room to their feet!”

Declan Byrne, Triple j

“Joseph’s more than able from the sounds of it… There’s something so warming and rousing about this one.”

Dave Ruby Howe, Triple J

Million ‘bed / he looks better on me’

by the partae September 26, 2022
written by the partae

million are back with a double single ‘bed / he looks better on me’ – one, a casual dating anthem about taking control and changing the narrative, and two, a confident and ‘pass-agg’ message to a partner’s former lover.

With bass heavy verses, 808 drums, dynamic vocals and brutally honest lyrics, ‘bed’ highlights and celebrates the empowerment that comes from shifting expectations, accepting situations and letting yourself have fun.

“We wanted to explore two realities that play out at different times when dating: the first, that sometimes it’s just about physical attraction and chemistry. The second, that if it’s more than that, you have this person’s past life to reckon with. Both songs have themes of taking back the power.” With catchy hooks, 80’s references and the classic million sass that their fans have come to expect, ‘bed / better on me’ is another ear worm from million’s 2022 repertoire.

‘bed/he looks better on me’ will be available worldwide on the 16th of September, 2022.

Artist Biography:
million is an emerging self-produced pop trio based in Melbourne/Naarm. Having formed between lockdowns in June 2020, the group spent the following six months working virtually on demos and discovering their sound.

By summer 2021, the band were ready to release their shimmery pop tracks into the world, debuting with ‘problem’ and following up with ‘mess we made’, ‘200 days’ and ‘deja vu’. Each song told a story through catchy hooks and lyrics that didn’t shy away from heavier themes.

Now, million are back with a full schedule of gigs around Melbourne and a huge double release – ‘bed/he looks better on me’.

million tell stories inspired by both personal and universal experiences, delicately interweaving lyrical melodies and narrative with their love of synthy, beat-driven electronica.

The Vidos

by the partae September 26, 2022
written by the partae

We spoke with Brett Hornall of The Vidos..

Where are you currently based?

I’m currently in my broken down 2001 Civic on the side of the highway waiting for a tow somewhere in Surrey, BC. The band, however, just recently moved our HQ to beautiful Mission, BC and I’ve never been happier. I mean… besides that time ten minutes ago when my car was working properly.

How did The Vidos form?

Kirk and Nolan met during their golden years playing for the Langley Eagles hockey team when they were 11 years old. At the start of the season Nolan’s dad had just had his driver’s license confiscated by the RCMP due to a DUI (who knew a bong would look bad in your front cup holder?). This posed a problem from their first tournament trip down to Bremerton, WA as Nolan was their star-studded goaltender. Kirk’s grandpa offered to take both of them down so they convoyed all together; made for a hell of a time at the border I hear… The four of them shared a hotel room together which is where Kirk and Nolan got to know each other while the future Vidads were out facedownin a pile of nachos at the local pub. This gave the boys lots of time to talk about music and share their love for Ronnie James Dio. When they returned, Kirk and Nolan spent years scouring and posting ads on Craigslist which is where they found a ton of weirdos — including the one and only ME, Brett Hornall.

What’s been happening recently?

Kirk (guitar) was living on the band bus for the last four or five months until we sold it, now he’s living in the rehearsal space washroom, Nolan (drums) just bought an apartment with his cats, and I moved back in with my dad when we got back from Toronto (guess which one of us is good at Monopoly). We also just signed a record deal with our longtime friends Danny Craig and Dave Benedict on their new label Rock Is Dead Records here in Vancouver, which is a very exciting thing for all parties involved.

What or who influenced the sound and songwriting for your latest single ‘Boomshackalacka’?

Kirk and I had been listening to a lot of r&b at the time and I was particularly into The Internet, so the main skeleton of the song I think was me trying to do something they might do. Then I got self-conscious about it and was like, “okay this is cool but what if a band like Mother Mother or DFA tried to write the chorus?” In terms of structure we ended up going for that laid back, vibey verse and Impossible Beef chorus thing going on that Tame Impala or like Tegan and Sara do so well.

How did you go about writing ‘Boomshackalacka’?

Like I said about trying to lean into some r&b type stuff, I think at a certain point I got nervous about how different it was and tried to contrast that with a big, sorta riffy chorus that had been somewhat of a hallmark for us in the past. The lyrics of the chorus kinda cop to the fact that I chickened out on going fully outta my comfort zone to instead rest on my laurels, haha. The whole song has this “hey, look at me, I‘ve got no game” quality to it that I think is pretty par for the course if you’ve ever met us.

Where and when did you record/produce/master and who did you work with?

We recorded this entire puppy last July and August with Danny Craig in his garage in Chilliwack, BC. From there the completed record was sent down to Tom Baker in Cali for mastering.

How did you approach the recording process?

This time around was different than any session we’d previously done — we recorded a whole record from front to back in track listing order, one instrument at a time. We decided on the song order during pre-production and stuck with it. It’s pretty neat because you can hear the record really develop as it goes on. That being said, “Boomshackalacka” was the first song we cut so we spent a lot of time on that one! The sounds and lyrical themes we found for “Boom” really shaped the identity of the rest of the record.

What can we expect from the upcoming music video for the track?

It’s a six-minute epic — we’re calling it our “Thriller”. It’s incredibly ridiculous, highly entertaining and is absolutely our magnum opus.

You’ve just signed to a brand new record label ‘Rock is Dead’ how did this come about and how has the experience been so far?

They call it “Rock is Dead”, we call it “Two Dads and a Laptop”. We absolutely adore Danny and Dave, we’ve been friends and collaborators for almost ten years now so it was absolutely a no-brainer to do an entire record with them for imaginary future money. In this economy? Get outta here.

Who are you listening to at the moment?

We’ve been on a big 1975 kick lately; Nolan’s rewatching the OC, so every song from that; the Tarzan soundtrack; Upsahl; Remi Wolf; and I’ve been getting back to my roots with some Fall Out Boy and that first Specials record. There’s also a great, virtually unknown band from New York called The Prigs that I ask anyone who will listen to check out. Specifically their song “Crush”.

What do you like to do away from music?

It’s no secret we all like to enjoy some fine (and not so fine) spirits here in The Vidos camp, which has slowly developed from a problem to a passion. We’ll often get together and crack open my great grandfather’s WW1 cocktail book and see what we can do. Of course, it’s a luxury for us to use a shaker tin instead of gramps’ old lead canteen container and we respect our privilege immensely.

What’s planned for the remainder of 2022 going into 2023?

Finishing our new tour rig has been the big focus for the last 5 months and we’re just about at the finish line. We’re going to be rolling around with the most efficient rig ever conceived by people kind. Once finished we look to take aim at dominating the Christmas scene while dropping another Vidos heartthrob. Santa’s never looked so good. In 2023… it begins.

Favourite food and place to hangout?

We have this joint in BC called Triple-O’s and it is the best fast food burger you’ve ever had in your bloody life. You’d be hard-pressed (much like tha 100% fresh Canadian beef patty) to find us anywhere else on a Tuesday when the burgers are six bucks.

Tamino

by the partae September 26, 2022
written by the partae

Where are you currently based?

I’m currently based in Antwerp, Belgium.

How did you first start playing music?

Around age 10 I started playing classical piano. Not for long though. A couple of years later I quit and didn’t play any music for a year until I sat down at the piano again aged 14 and wrote my first song.

What’s been happening recently?

Mostly promo for the new album and I’m currently on tour in North America.

You Don’t Own Me’ is your latest single and is out now, how did this track come about?

When I was still living in Amsterdam I rented a bedroom at a friend’s house which had a piano in it. Every morning and evening before and after my lessons I would play. I always kept the silencing pedal on because our neighbors downstairs hated noise of any kind. Often they complained during the day which I thought was very silly, but sometimes when I played later in the evening I guess they had a point. When the first chords and melody arrived of ‘You Don’t Own Me’ I knew it was past a reasonable time to play but there was a big sense of urgency that made me sit down at the piano anyway. Only years later, funnily enough when I was visiting Amsterdam again (I didn’t live there anymore) I re-listened to the recording on my phone and started humming a melody for the verse and working on the first lyrics sitting in a hotel bar. To me the lyrics aren’t directed towards a specific person, group, or place of power. It’s more of an ode to Freedom and a stance to any form of oppression. I hope oppressed individuals and/or groups can find solace in a song like this.

What does You Don’t Own Me mean to you?

I had just read ‘Man’s Search For Meaning’ by Viktor E. Frankl, which has become one of my favorite books, and of which these quotes came to mind when I was writing ‘You Don’t Own Me’:

“Even the helpless victim of a hopeless situation, facing a fate he cannot change, may rise above himself, may grow beyond himself, and by so doing change himself. He may turn a personal tragedy into a triumph.”

“Is this to say that suffering is indispensable to meaning? In no way. I only insist that meaning is available in spite of  – nay, even through – suffering, provided that the suffering is unavoidable. If it is avoidable, the meaningful thing to do is to remove its cause, for unnecessary suffering is masochistic rather than heroic. If, on the other hand, one cannot change a situation that causes his suffering, he can still choose his attitude.”

Your album ‘Sahar’ is out on September 23, what influenced the sound and songwriting?

I played a lot of oud, which is an Arabic lute. I used it both to write songs as well as a prominent color in the arrangements.

Please tell us about the songwriting writing process that you went through for Sahar:

The beauty of songwriting is its mystery.

Where were you whilst writing the album and did the location affect the album in anyway?

I was most often in Antwerp. It was mainly the fact that I was home again after a long tour that gave me space and time to write the album.

Where and when did you record/produce/master and who did you work with?

I started recording at my place, a lot of those early recordings ended up on the album. We then recorded a lot at co-producer PJ Maertens’ studio, ICP and Jet studio’s in Brussels. 6 songs were mixed by Jon Low in Long Pond studio. The 4 other songs were mixed by other co-producer Jo Francken and PJ. The mastering was done by Dave Kutch at the mastering palace.

How did you approach the recording process?

We left a lot of room for experimentation in the studio. I feel like the character of each individual musician shines through really well.

What’s planned for the remainder of 2022 going into 2023?

Planned for the rest of 2022 and 2023 is tour. Finishing up the North American tour end of October. We take the tour further into Europe right after and will announce new dates for 2023 very soon.

BYOR returns to Tiësto’s Musical Freedom Label With New “Flavour.” Out Now

by the partae September 26, 2022
written by the partae

Artists: BYOR
Title: Flavour
Label: Musical Freedom

Download / Stream

BYOR is back on Tiësto‘s Musical Freedom with his new single “Flavour,” which is another shining example of his energetic and dynamic sound. The track opens with full, dynamic basslines and a vocal riff that just begs listeners to put their dancing shoes on and get on the dance floor. BYOR ups the ante on the drop with future house-inspired synths and uptempo beats, making “Flavour” the perfect track to kick off a party weekend. As summer winds down into fall, the electronic music scene heats up indoors–and you can be sure that “Flavour” will be on the menu. It follows BYOR‘s Spinnin’ Records release “Say Yes” from August and his breakthrough hit “Belly Dancer” with Imanbek, which dropped on Musical Freedom back in February and is still going strong on Spotify with over 160M streams at the moment.

Since 2020, BYOR has made a household name for himself on Tiesto‘s Musical Freedom and AFTR:HRS labels with releases such as “Feel That Way’,” “Keep On Dancin’,” and more. After listening to his tracks, it’s clear that BYOR makes his own rules to the game of life and music, with his style ranging from tech house to big room and more. BYOR had his breakthrough moment this year in February with “Belly Dancer” with Imanbek, which has already clocked up over 160M streams on Spotify alone since its release and became a recognizable dancefloor filler. Keep an eye out for more from BYOR coming soon.

Tamino’s Second Album, Sahar, Out Now

by the partae September 26, 2022
written by the partae

‘Hauntingly beautiful and sharp’ – Esquire
‘Astonishing’ – NPR
‘A magical elixr’ – KCRW

Tamino’s second album Sahar, is out today via Virgin Music Australia. The album, led by the singles The First Disciple, Fascination and You Don’t Own Me, and now the focus track, Sunflower (a summery duet with French star Angele) has seen him garner praise world wide and has led to sold out shows on his European and North American tours.

Stream Sahar in full here

Born from Tamino’s Antwerp apartment and bolstered by collaborators including Radiohead bassist Colin Greenwood, producer/engineer PJ Maertens and drummer Ruben Vanhoutte, Sahar is a powerhouse sophomore effort that mixes Arabic folk and experimental indie rock with sweeping orchestral arrangements. On Sahar, Tamino rearticulates the Arabic oud, the instrument of his grandfather Muharram Fouad, one of Egypt’s most celebrated singers and actors, into more a ‘typical’ indie arrangement. The way it pairs with his smoldering voice creates a sonic landscape which is lush, layered and haunting. Sahar is where the romanticism and tragedy of Jeff Buckley meets a cosmopolitan, universalist aesthetic sensibility – an effortless mingling of European, American and Middle Eastern influences.

VIZE and R3HAB Join Forces on Euphonious Dance-Pop Single “One Last Time”. Out Now on Sony Music

by the partae September 26, 2022
written by the partae

Artists: VIZE & R3HAB
Title: One Last Time
Label: Sony Music

Download / Stream

In the recent past, both VIZE and R3HAB have been able to celebrate great successes. The fact that these two heavyweights of the dance scene have produced a song together is more than promising. Their new song “One Last Time” tells the story of dancing through the night together one last time before parting ways and leaving each other behind. It’s about living in the moment for a certain time. Musically, the song starts out acoustic and restrained. The soft vocals are accompanied by a piano and simple drums until the drop. The drop then combines the typical sounds of VIZE and R3HAB: on a fresh house beat comes the slapping bass, which is also known from other tracks of VIZE and R3HAB. The song sprays melancholic-cheerful vibes in every bar, which animate you to dance.

“We are very happy about our new release ‘One Last Time’ as it was a song that we loved from the first minute on. Working together with R3HAB was a pleasure, even though it was only from a distance. We hope our fans will be as hyped as we are about this collaboration. Cannot wait to play that during the upcoming club season!” – VIZE

“I’ve been following VIZE for many years, and I am excited that we’ve finally found the right opportunity to work together. I really enjoyed this creative process from day one; VIZE has a clear direction and excellent work ethic. ‘One Last Time’ is a record about coming to terms with reality and choosing to dance in the moment. It has a simple elegance to it, and I believe it is exactly what it needed to be.” – R3HAB

As briefly mentioned at the beginning, both VIZE and R3HAB have already had great success. VIZE (116k followers on Instagram), which consists of mastermind & producer Vitali Zestovskih and DJ/producer Johannes Vimalavong, have worked with big names like Alan Walker, Felix Jaehn, Afrojack, and Dimitri Vegas. With more than 2.5B streams and 1.3M records sold, as well as more than 30 gold and platinum awards in eight countries, they have already achieved some respectable successes. Projects with Capital Bras side project called Joker Bra have also been particularly successful. Here, the duo and Joker Bra landed a #1 hit in Germany with “Baby.” And they also currently reach a considerable audience on Spotify with more than 8.6M monthly listeners.

Multi-Platinum DJ and producer Fadil El Ghoul, better known as R3HAB, has been trailblazing his way through dance music for the past fifteen years. From his breakthrough remixes for Rihanna, Drake, Taylor Swift, Calvin Harris, to anthems such as Platinum-certified “All Around The World (La La La)” and “Lullaby,” to his collaborations with the likes of Ava Max, ZAYN, Luis Fonsi, Sean Paul, and more, R3HAB has proven to be one of the most forward-thinking artists in the game. His work has collected over 8B streams to date, including 1.1B in 2021 alone. R3HAB founded his label CYB3RPVNK in 2016, which has passed 4B streams across platforms since its inception. He is Spotify’s Most Discovered Artist, one of Spotify’s top 200 most streamed artists, ranked #12 on prestigious DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs chart, and has earned over 70 Gold and Platinum certificates. On top of that, he performed at the world’s top festivals, such as EDC, Ultra Music Festival, Tomorrowland, Balaton Sound, Coachella, Summer Sonic Festival, DWP Jakarta. With his combination of innate artistry and innovative attitude, R3HAB has earned his place as a household name in dance music.

Life and Death and Innervisions’s collaborative party Rakastella is back with another diverse and eclectic musical offering in the historic and picturesque Virginia Key Beach Park, Miami on Saturday December 3rd, 2022. This passion-filled gathering features three tastefully eclectic stages covering a wide spectrum of international electronic sound headlined by AceMoMA, Dixon, TSHA, DJ Boring, DJ Tennis b2b Seth Troxler, Sofia Kourtesis, Moodymann, Jennifer Cardini, Or:la, Trikk, Ashley Venom, Will Renuart, Coffintexts, Powder, Quest, Yu Su and a very special guest. Get your tickets now at https://rakastella.com/.

Four previous editions of Rakastella have established it on the world stage as a leader in eco-friendly musical experiences. It is a mindfully curated, 15+ hour party that unites a thoughtful lineup of artists with diverse backgrounds. This year, once again, that diversity as well as the need to make the whole festival a safe space that is welcoming to one and all is in sharp focus. This year, Rakastella will abandon VIP tickets so that all dancers are equal as one on the dance floor thus bringing back the original community-minded spirit of early dance music culture.

Stage hosts this year include the free-thinking and inclusive clubbing collective HE.SHE.THEY. It is a record label, fashion brand and event series for people of all races, genders and sexualities with a cutting-edge house and techno soundtrack. Also hosting will be Where Are My Keys?, a Miami born, boutique underground brand that hosts unique international events with world class sounds.

Have you ever experienced a Rakastella sunrise soundtracked by Innervisions? You won’t want to miss this unforgettable moment with Dixon this year. The whole party often feels like it is building towards this magical moment – as the grooves build and atmospheres evolve, the sun appears and a big wave of energy washes over the crowd to uniting them together.
One of the reasons Rakastella is so special is the location itself – Virginia Key Beach boasts scenic beaches and sweeping views of the bay which make for a unique backdrop. Next to the area’s raw natural beauty, environmental art will also be nestled amongst the tropical shaded groves that border the sea.

You can look forward to extended set times this year so that artists have the chance to really settle in and go deep into their sound. Headliners include AceMo and MoMA aka AceMoMA, whose futuristic blend of techno, footwork, and jungle has made them modern day heroes. There will also be deeply emotive house from Dixon, visceral techno from TSHA, a mix of everything from Chicago house to Detroit techno through to trance and funk from DJ Boring, a special coming together of two greats with DJ Tennis b2b Seth Troxler, leftfield house from Peruvian producer, vocalist and DJ Sofia Kourtesis, a masterclass from unique Detroit legend Moodymann, electro from Jennifer Cardini, high energy selections from Or:la, Innervisions artist and incubator of underground movements Trikk, Haitian American DJ and activist Ashley Venom, Electric Pickle’s Will Renuart, 140 bpm expert Coffintexts and Japan’s deep house innovator Powder, plus revered selector Quest and Technicolour’s adventurous sound artist Yu Su.

Rakastella has worked hard this year to bring you an improved experience. Just a few of the ways they have done this include an increased number of washrooms which will be continuously staffed for cleanliness, water refill stations to keep you hydrated as well as bars that, after 3 am by law, will have a curated virgin cocktail list, pressed juices, and fresh options that will allow you to go late but feel good. Add in an ever-richer array of local food and you have all the fuel you need to last until that transcending sunrise moment.

Rakastella is an all-new kind of musical experience that nourishes the mind, body and soul. Make sure you are a part of the community by getting your ticket now at https://rakastella.com/.

Lawrence Hart announces ‘Music for Dark Spaces’ EP with first single ‘Let Me Feel’

by the partae September 26, 2022
written by the partae

Out Now on Attack Decay Sweet Release – Stream/Save it HERE

Full EP release date TBA

Lawrence Hart’s new track, ‘Let Me Feel’ acts as a tantalising foretaste to his upcoming third EP, ‘Music for Dark Spaces’ (full release date TBA), out on Attack Decay Sweet Release.

Lawrence famously pushes boundaries on production and genre, weaving hard-hitting club-ready beats, emotional intricacies, and beautiful chilled pieces, suiting busy dancefloors and headphone sessions alike. Brooding new club cut ‘Let Me Feel’ displays all his signature strengths.

‘Let Me Feel’: lively, complex drums and twanging distorted bass with chopped pitch-shifted vocal fragments forming part organic, part robotic riffs, make the new single both an intriguing listen, and a compulsive dancefloor invitation. ‘’Let Me Feel’ is a bit of a homage to UK Garage,’ Lawrence says. ‘It’s my take on bringing a new twist to a classic sound.’

The upcoming EP ‘Music For Dark Spaces’ explores light and dark, how the listener’s physical environment affects the way the music is experienced.

Lawrence has recently amassed sweeping support across BBC Radio 1 (Annie Mac, Pete Tong – including ‘Essential New Tune’, Danny Howard, Jack Saunders, Jaguar, Sarah Story, Arielle Free, Jess Iszatt, Connor Coates, Vicky Hawkesworth), 6 Music, Radio 1 Dance, Kiss FM, Rinse FM and across specialist radio plus artists including The Blessed Madonna, Martin Garrix, Prospa, Sub Focus, Sister Bliss, Anja Schneider, Elderbook, Sasha and Dixon…

Respected and sought-after producer Hart works with some of the most exciting names in electronic music; remixing lau.ra’s ‘Body Go’ (widely supported, including 30+ BBC Radio 1 plays), Foals’ new LP lead single ‘Wake Me Up’ and legends Black Box‘s 1990 hit ‘Strike It Up’. He’s also just worked on acclaimed new records from George Fitzgerald and Lil Silva.

‘Let Me Feel’ is out now on Attack Decay Sweet Release. Save it HERE.

FULL ARTIST LINE-UP COMING TUESDAY 11 OCTOBER!

As the dust settles on an enormously successful sold out homecoming event on the weekend, CMC Rocks QLD is delighted to reveal dates for the March 2023 festival.

Between Wednesday 15 and Sunday 19 March 2023, CMC Rocks QLD, Australia’s premiere international country music festival will land in Willowbank, Ipswich helmed by some of the hottest global superstars; with the full artist line-up to be announced on Tuesday 11 October!

With just six months between last weekend’s hugely anticipated 15th Anniversary and the 2023 event – which sees the festival return to its regular March slot on the annual calendar – CMC Rocks QLD will once again deliver the ultimate country music line, certain to light up the country community’s spirit like nothing else!

Chairman of Chugg Entertainment, Michael Chugg said, “We waited a long time to put on this year’s show, and we knew it was going to be spectacular. Everyone involved, from the artists, staff, crew and especially our CMC Rocks fans, absolutely outdid themselves. And you better believe we’re going to do it all again in just six months’ time!”

Jeremy Dylan, Festival Director, Potts Entertainment said, “It’s been an incredible, emotional weekend for all of us – the fans, the artists and all who have been working behind the scenes to pull off this triumphant return. The loyalty of our fans is awe-inspiring and they came to party. We felt the love and we know Brad, Kane, Morgan and everyone who stepped onto that stage did as well. After three and a half years, it felt like we came back stronger than ever and now we’re barrelling into 2023, as we return to March for what is going to be the biggest CMC Rocks yet.”

Over the weekend just gone, the first CMC Rocks QLD since March 2019 went off with the kind of explosive energy country fans have bottled up and waited to unleash for the past 3 and a half years! Across three days, 22,000 patrons descended on Willowbank to take in live sets from international chart-toppers Brad Paisley, Kane Brown, Morgan Evans, Jimmie Allen, Blanco Brown and more, along with an absolute smorgasbord of the finest homegrown talent on offer!

Spirits were sky high as crowds entered the main festival area on Friday afternoon, with local heroes Casey Barnes and Troy Cassar-Daley returning to the CMC Rocks stage. First Nations talents Isaiah Firebrace and Mitch Tambo joined Lee Kernaghan during his set for a stunning rendition of their new single ‘Come Together’.

Friday also served up anticipated debuts from US stars MacKenzie Porter and Abby Anderson, who played in the afternoon, then joined Jimmie Allen on stage that evening during his explosive set. It was Kane Brown’s stellar performance that brought the first night to a close, including chart-topping hits ‘Like I Love Country Music’, ‘One Mississippi’ and more, along with ‘I’ve Got Some Famous Friends’, featuring some of his festival mates – Blanco Brown, Restless Road and MacKenzie Porter – live on stage. Brown left no doubt as to why he’s one of the hottest stars in country music right now.

Saturday’s all female Songwriter’s Show line-up captivated, MacKenzie Porter, Laci Kaye Booth, Lindsay Ell and Abby Anderson playing in the round, stripped-back and intimate, showcasing their incredible raw talent. As day turned to night, crowd favourite Troy Cassar-Daley continued the good vibes, lifting the crowd with his live show.

From debuting in a lunchtime slot at the first ever CMC Rocks in 2008, Nashville-via-Newcastle star Morgan Evans made his anticipated homecoming as a festival headliner at the 15th Anniversary event. On Saturday night, Evans had spirits soaring as he laid down a blistering set featuring hit singles ‘Day Drunk’ and ‘Diamonds’, fans singing along to every word.

Wingham’s own James Johnston is as country as they come, drawing large crowds on Sunday afternoon, with audiences jamming along with singles ‘Raised Like That’ and ‘Small Town’. US singer-songwriter Niko Moon continued to enthrall on his CMC Rocks debut, followed by crowd favourite Brad Cox, who had some serious country spirit on display and fans in the palm of his hand.

Accompanied by an extraordinary fireworks display to close out an epic three days, Brad Paisley’s Sunday night headline set blew the lid right off the Rebel Stage. Delivering a legendary performance punctuated by chart-topping hit after chart-topping hit, plus a duet with Lindsay Ell, Paisley had it all and then some, reminding us why exactly why CMC Rocks QLD is the ultimate country music experience.

Queensland Tourism Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said CMC Rocks was a significant feature on the It’s Live! In Queensland events calendar.

“The Queensland Government backs CMC Rocks because we know fans travel from far and wide for this first-class country music experience,” Mr Hinchliffe said.

“It’s terrific to see to this international country music event return as wonderful addition to Queensland’s great lifestyle while also supporting local jobs.

“Major events bring visitors who are predicted to invest more than $14 million in the Ipswich visitor economy during next year’s 16th anniversary of CMC Rocks.

“Now is the time to start planning your CMC Rocks international country music experience for 2023.”

Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said two festivals within six months would be a huge boost to the region and inject millions of dollars into Ipswich’s economy.

“CMC Rocks 2022 was incredible this weekend and we’re thrilled to be welcoming the event back to Ipswich in 2023 to its regular timeslot in March,” Mayor Harding said.

“This world class festival is a highlight on the event calendar for people from all over Australia and around the world and having it twice within six months is a win-win for everyone.”

CMC Rocks QLD firmly cemented their place as Australia’s most significant country music event in 2022, with a festival experience like nothing else around! From new bars – Big Time Charlie’s and Gordons Pink Pamper Beauty Bar – to fresh new activations including an eight-metre high cowboy boot, Great Northern House, Singles Mingle, Honky Tonk Stomp line dancing and more, CMC Rocks is the ultimate, incomparable country music experience.

The Queensland Government is proud to support CMC Rocks QLD through Tourism and Events Queensland as part of the It’s Live! in Queensland events calendar, showcasing Australia’s best live events in Australia’s best destinations.
