NEWCOMER JASPER TYGNER COLLABORATES WITH AWARD-WINNING MUSIC VIDEO DIRECTOR TO RECAPTURE THE SPIRIT OF ‘90S RAVING
Director Charlie Robins has worked with household names Rudimental, Dusky, Jeshi, Emeli Sandé, Rag ‘n’ Bone Man and Jessie Ware.
“The film is essentially a homage to those bleary-eyed, majestic nights out – particularly those old raves off the M25 from the early ‘90s,” Charlie enthuses. “Jasper’s music spoke to my soul and reminded me of the best times back in the day. The magic of a shared experience on the dance floor is something we have all been pining for, for way too long. This video was a chance to jog the memory and stir the spirits. We put a call for everyone to send in personal footage of them partying. We got some class bits from friends, family, as well my own personal phone stash (don’t judge) and specifically shot moments with Jasper and pals having an actual party. Add to that some archive reels from yesteryear and it became this crazy dreamlike madness.”
Stock footage of ravers embracing freedom and togetherness is interwoven with hazy shots of Jasper partying with his mates, and we’re left gripped by this shared need for escapism in both the past and the present. With clubs closed nationwide, footage of Britain’s storied rave movement fed Jasper Tygner’s creative drive during lockdown, with the result being an EP dipped in ‘90s euphoria.
Jasper explains: “That’s Too Slow was written mid-lockdown while inspiration was sparse so I turned to old ‘90s footage and photographs of the UK’s early raves. Searching for material from in and out of the club, the hazy walks back home, the groups of people chilling post rave and the ravers wandering around eager to keep going. After Charlie contacted me, I sent over the footage and photos I had cited for the track. The video really shows a journey through a night from start to end.”
Taken from Jasper’s post-rave-influenced ‘Eyes Open’ EP on London label Silver Bear Recordings, it follows singles ‘Kashmer’ and ‘Never Leave’, his first label signings, which bagged the emerging producer and multi-instrumentalist from North London high praise from Radio 1, 1Xtra and Radio 6 Music, while his Bedroom Rave studio sessions on Instagram went viral and captured the attention of dance heavyweights Bicep, DJ Seinfeld, KiNK and Tom Misch.
Jasper Tygner ‘Eyes Open’ EP out now on Silver Bear Recordings
Maya Rose, R&B singer-songwriter from Castlemaine (Melbourne), says ‘Enough is enough’ in her new gender inequality single ‘Mind the Gap’ to be released on 17 September.
‘Mind the Gap’ is a powerful anthem supporting current global women’s movements.
22-year-old Maya Rose delivers the story of her experience as a female musician with a mature depth in her smooth soulful voice and strong lyrics, combining her signature 90s R&B inspired tone with Sade influenced pop/jazz, and a reggae groove you’ll want to get up and dance to.
Nominated for “Best Regional/Outer Suburban Act” Music Victoria Awards in 2019, Maya Rose has continued to build on her experiences as a writer and performer with regular gigs and live-stream events in Melbourne and regional Victoria. She has also been busy in the studio with producer Julian Steel (JAYDEAN, HANNAH, Blush’ko, JANEVA) unleashing ‘Mind the Gap’ as the first taste of her forthcoming second EP of introspective songs written in the 2020 lockdowns. Her debut single ‘See You Again’ and EP Time, released in 2019 in collaboration with Melbourne producers Jerome Farah (Baker Boy, KIAN) and Aman Bayatly (Adrian Eagle) received strong reviews, support from triple j unearthed and new audiences. “Lovely voice from Maya Rose on this moving record. Throwing back to some classic 90s R&B here!” Tommy Faith
This compelling new social/political side to Maya Rose grew from a place of feeling fed up with how women are treated, and wanting to speak about personal experiences. The opening of the song is set with the voices of female protestors chanting ‘my body, my choice’, creating a timely feeling of change. Maya Rose has created a song that will connect with women around the world.
“The song is about the gender gap, and female empowerment. It’s also about my experience of being a woman in the music industry. Many times I’ve felt I wasn’t being listened to or taken seriously as a woman, and couldn’t speak my mind. I’ve been excluded and unsupported in the industry by ‘boys’ clubs’. It’s time that we not only talk about the disadvantages women face every day in our community; it is important to express the issues creatively. I want to hear more messages of female empowerment in the music we consume. I’m releasing ‘Mind the Gap’, because ‘we’re still not equal yet.’” Maya Rose
Working with Melbourne-based producer Julian Steel, who brought to the sessions years of experience as a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer, provided an element of musicianship Maya Rose connected with profoundly. The track leans into live instrumentation with
laid back guitar, smooth tones of the saxophone, reggae nuisances in the organs and rhythm, and groovy bass.
“‘Mind the Gap’ has been a few years in the making. I’d been waiting for the right producer to work with and I’m so glad I had the opportunity to bring this to Julian. He really heard the song and connected to the meaning and musicality, developing the exact kind of sound I wanted. His production compliments the song beautifully.”
September will see Maya Rose launch her new single with a show in Melbourne and an online livestream event. Maya Rose is making a strong return with ‘Mind the Gap’ as her new single.

We caught up with multitalented artist and producer Outlnd after the release of his latest record “Feel Love”, a stripped and raw R&B single.
Listen here: https://fanlink.to/Feel-Love
Your latest single “Feel Love” was released a month ago. Tell us about the single and your collaboration with JCAL.
The song is about the tribulations I went through over a breakup about a year ago. You go through so many emotions, especially after being with someone for so long, so writing it was almost like therapy for me. I just had to get these thoughts out of my head and voice it, for my own sanity.
I wrote it with JCAL in his studio and it came really naturally. I feel like he knew where I was at with the whole thing, so it was easy to put myself in that vulnerable state. I came into the session knowing I wanted to create something with the same darkness and emotion that this track ‘Feel’ by Sonder embodied – I played it for him and we just went from there.
I started off with this progression on the guitar and JCAL created this dark sonic landscape around it that built into this big, bass and drum-filled chorus. We just bounced off each other and got most of the song done in that session.
How would you explain your music style to a new listener?
At this time, I feel like I’d explain it as dark RnB. I draw a lot of influence from The Weeknd’s early work and ‘After Hours’, and I feel like that really comes out on ‘Feel Love’ through the falsetto and melancholy sonics.
What are some of your earliest musical memories?
The earliest memory I have is learning guitar with my grandmother. I was really young and I remember her picking me up after school and taking me to these lessons. Our teacher would run the lesson for both of us at the same time – looking back at it now, it was special to learn by her side. She was the only other person in my family that played an instrument and I remember her first sparking my intrigue with her playing piano for me.
What are some of your favorite records of all time?
My top two are ‘In Rainbows’ by Radiohead and ‘Blonde’ by Frank Ocean. I like projects that take you on this emotional journey. Storytelling through sonics as well as lyrics. I remember my dad playing ‘In Rainbows’ for me when I was younger on a drive south and just being taken to this place. It’s like you’re daydreaming but you’re still processing your senses into the daydream. It’s cool.
What does the next year have in store for you?
I’m going to release some songs that are different to what I’ve released before. Ones more of a summer baseline fueled track and the other really singer-songwriter, guitar-based. I feel like these are going to show these next stages I’m coming into as an artist.
If there is one piece of advice you’d pass on to an aspiring artist, what would it be?
Don’t try and sound like anyone else. I’ve only just come to this realization over the past year, and I feel like a lot of artists get stuck trying to sound like their favorite artist or someone they think they already sound like. That spot is taken, you need to walk your own path!
Finally, any shoutouts?
Keep eyes on ‘amor’, big things coming. September 17th.

Title: Sad Boy (feat. Ava Max, Kylie Cantrall)
Label: APG
R3HAB, Jonas Blue, Ava Max, and Kylie Cantrall collide for the newest release – “Sad Boy,” a dance-pop crossover single that is both playful and uplifting. Opening with rhythmic instrumentals, the track evolves with undulating, dynamic basslines and euphonious melodies, perfectly showcasing R3HAB‘s and Jonas Blue‘s exceptional production skills. Global pop superstar Ava Max‘s bold, powerful voice adds a sultry and emotive touch to the lyrics, while the teenage lead star of Disney‘s “Gabby Duran & The Unsittables” Kylie Cantrall is the perfect complement in her post-Disney artist debut. “Sad Boy” follows the same sonic vein as R3HAB‘s recent “Runaway” with Sigala and JP Cooper as the second single on his upcoming studio album. Stay tuned for the next track from this talented veteran’s next project!
“This is one of those records where the pieces fell into place quickly. Ava and I connected when I remixed ‘EveryTime I Cry‘ a few months ago. I heard the idea for ‘Sad Boy‘ and knew I had to make the record. Her voice is powerful and bold and a pleasure to work with. I’m glad for the opportunity to create with Jonas, as we’ve only remixed each others’ work but haven’t collaborated. He brings an uplifting and fresh direction to every record. It’s been great working with Kylie as well, looking forward to seeing her artistic journey take off.” – R3HAB
“Collaborating with these amazing artists on ‘Sad Boy‘ has been a highlight of my year, I’ve been talking to R3HAB about doing something together for years, and after working with Ava last year on ‘My Head & My Heart,’ this was the perfect moment for us all to come together on a song. To have an exciting new talent like Kylie jumping on that second verse and killing it was the cherry on the cake.” – Jonas Blue
“Had a blast collaborating with R3HAB, Jonas Blue and Kylie on ‘Sad Boy‘. This song is all about having a crush on that dark, mysterious person people may not expect.” – Ava Max
“The first time I heard ‘Sad Boy‘ I thought I’d heard it before. It’s such a catchy song. There are so many contagious elements about it, the melody, that drop… Yeah, pretty much the whole thing! I couldn’t get it out of my head, I was singing it literally everywhere I went. So, when they asked me to jump on the song, I was like ‘What!?… Hell Yeah!’ I really feel super fortunate to get the chance to work with such insanely talented DJs/producers R3HAB and Jonas Blue, who are the best in the game! They could have stopped there, but once you add Ava Max on top of all that, I was literally at a loss for words. She’s such an incredible singer and performer, I feel honored to be on the song with her! The fact that I get to collaborate with these stars… needless to say, it definitely feels like a pinch-me moment.” – Kylie Cantrall
Dutch-Moroccan Multi-Platinum DJ and producer Fadil El Ghoul, better known as R3HAB, has been trailblazing his way through dance music for the better part of the last decade. From his breakthrough remixes for Rihanna, Drake, Taylor Swift, Calvin Harris, The Chainsmokers, Lady Gaga, to anthems such as Gold– and Platinum-certified “All Around The World (La La La)” and “Lullaby,” to his collaborations with the likes of Luis Fonsi, Sean Paul, ZAYN, Andy Grammer, Sofia Carson, Smokepurpp, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Astrid S, Olivia Holt and more, R3HAB has proven to be one of the most talented and forward-thinking artists in the game, whose work collected over 5B streams to date. In 2016 R3HAB founded his label CYB3RPVNK, which has passed 2B streams across all platforms since its inception. R3HAB himself continues to evolve and diversify his sound by working with a variety of artists around the globe, pushing the boundaries of dance music as he collaborates across genres and languages. In 2020 alone R3HAB celebrated over 900M Spotify streams. He is currently the most discovered artist on Spotify, one of Spotify’s top 150 most streamed artists across all genres worldwide, and ranked #13 on prestigious DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs chart. With his combination of innate artistry and innovative attitude, in 2021 R3HAB is continuing his journey among electronic music’s elite.
Jonas Blue‘s career has been felt the world over with singles like “Fast Car,” “Perfect Strangers,” “Rise,” “Mama,” and “Polaroid” collectively amassing almost 3,5B streams on Spotify alone and having been certified Platinum over 120 times around the globe. With over 13B global streams, Jonas has cemented his name as the main stage DJ and pop powerhouse. 2018 was a landmark year. He released “Rise” featuring Jack & Jack, which was one of the summer’s biggest global hits, and owned the autumn with “Polaroid” – his highly-anticipated collab with Liam Payne and Lennon Stella. The success of both hits was sandwiched between “Back & Forth” with Becky Hill and Detroit house legend MK. Debut album “Blue” soon followed, the recipient of the Brit Certified Breakthrough Award and later gold status. Jonas has made his mark on Ibiza, having performed at hotspots Ushuaïa, Cafe Mambo, and has successfully hosted his Electronic Nature residency at superclub Hï Ibiza. Following on from hits “Mistakes” and “Naked” in 2020, “Something Stupid” featuring AWA and ‘Hear Me Say‘ featuring LEON kicked off his 2021 in style, smashing their way into homes worldwide as Jonas continues to inspire, uplift and spread his message of global positivity. As we see a return to live performances in 2021, Jonas joins the likes of Tiësto and Zedd as a resident DJ at Zouk in Las Vegas.
Ava Max is nothing short of a global sensation with massive hits such as “Sweet But Psycho,” “Kings & Queens,” “Salt,” “So Am I,” and “My Head & My Heart” contributing to over 100 Diamond, Platinum and Gold certifications globally! The pop star’s debut album “Heaven & Hell” achieved its RIAA Gold Certification upon release as well as numerous other certifications around the world. Crafting pop anthems with a much-needed dose of fiery female empowerment, the singer has amassed over 9,5B streams and 4B video views to date. The daughter of Albanian immigrants channels the imaginations and aesthetics of forebears like Mariah Carey and Gwen Stefani. Ava Max is a unique talent, blessed with a seismic voice, an individualistic high fashion mindset, and an undeniable knack for cinematic, theatrical popcraft.
Kylie Cantrall is a 16-year-old American singer, dancer, and actress. She is currently most known for playing Gabby Duran in the Disney Channel television series “Gabby Duran & The Unsittables.” Thanks to her collaboration with stars like Zendaya and releasing music videos through Disney Channel Voices, including “Feeling Some Kinda Way,” which amassed over 15M views, Cantrall went on to become one of the youngest artists to achieve fame across the United States. With nearly 5M TikTok followers and over 500K Instagram followers, Kylie is poised to make her post-Disney artist debut with the single “Sad Boy.”
Returning to build upon a strong introduction made in June, indie rock group Cheap Date serves up a stunning new single, ‘Woman To You’. Gorgeously layered, balancing light and shaded tones with ease, ‘Woman To You’ is a perfect way for the Brisbane group to take another stride forward in making their presence known to more fans.
The track is dreamy in that Hatchie, Julia Jacklin way; while the production and warm ambience the music conjures gives us beautiful ‘90s soft rock-pop energy.
Like their debut single ‘Beside Me’, ‘Woman To You’ is emotionally charged; the lyrics offer an insight into a perspective many listeners may be able to relate to.
“‘Woman To You’ is a song that I wrote as a way to express and come to terms with my sexuality as a young adult. I had spent my whole teenage life convinced that I would grow up, get a job, find a husband, build that white picket fence and have kids. ‘Beside Me’ was written about the last real relationship I had with a man before coming out as bisexual. This song is the follow up to that. It is really an expression of obsession. Which sounds a bit creepy….but I mean it in the most innocent way. I was suddenly allowing myself to feel and think about women in a way that felt natural and inherently like my true self.”
Cheap Date, Lara Dee
The band, led by Lara Dee, has courted the attention of tastemaker outlets and Triple J Unearthed early, with reviews commending the band for their handle on emotional nuance and their blend of musical influences. As they move on through 2021, Cheap Date are revealing more about their artistry, and are excited for more new fans to become acquainted with their unique style.

Bridget Allan is back with a funky new single called ‘Lifeline’. This song is about having degrading mental health, but having a partner that is helping you through it. It also talks of the help a community can have to the personal sique. Inspired by Hiatus Kaiyote’s new album and the funky basslines of BENEE, Bridget is picking up the energy and is not afraid to do some vocal riffing with new-found confidence. This track dabbles in the styles of r&b, soul, pop, indie pop and jazz fusion. This piece was mixed by Calvin Lauber who is most known for his work with Julien Baker.
Bridget Allan is an indie/jazz-influenced singer-songwriter from the Mornington Peninsula. She is currently studying a Bachelor of Music at the University of Melbourne, specialising in Interactive Composition. She makes all her music on the lands of the Boon Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation.
The DIY music video filmed by Bridget at her local beach/area can be found here:

What is your name and role within the band?
Hey, I’m Luke and I’m the lead singer.
Where are you currently based?
We’re currently based in Sydney.
How did miloviti form?
miloviti actually started as a solo project initially but I found John (drums) and Ben (guitar) and we got along so well we made an official band. We played together for a year and then 2 years ago we found Jianne (bass) and clicked.
What’s been happening recently?
We’ve been in lockdown so we haven’t been able to see each other for a few months now and we’ve just been writing and recording and communicating online.
Your new single ‘allnight’ is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting?
We take inspiration for different parts of our music and just kinda put it all together. The beat for the verse is inspired by The Weeknd and RnB with some syncopated 80’s pop ballad toms that are also used in a lot of modern RnB. The verse guitar is kind of reminiscent of Creed – Arms Wide Open as well as the big dreamy Rock vocal chorus at the end which is inspired by 80’s/90/s Rock ballads. Then the Chorus guitar is inspired by Coldplay – Up&Up so we’ve got a lot of random influences that create our sound.
How does the current nostalgia and longing for friends under Sydney lockdown resonate with ‘allnight’?
‘allnight’ is about basically about remembering late nights spent with a loved one or friends staying up until dawn. I haven’t been able to see the rest of my band who are also my best friends so it’s been really tough. Makes me think very fondly and nostalgically to the past.
How did you go about writing ‘allnight’?
When I first started writing ‘allnight’ I always knew it was a vibe but it started off with a very different beat behind it and John (drums) just hated it haha so we dropped the song for a while. It wasn’t until I got really inspired by The Weeknd one day and came up with a more syncopated R&B beat for the verses that it really started to take on a life of its own. Ben, our guitarist, then came up with the flourishing explosion of guitar for the chorus and we knew this song was going to be something really special.
Where and when did you record/produce/master and who with?
We’ve been recording the tracks ourselves for about a year now and then we got Jack Nigro to mix it for us and Leon Zervos to master for us.
How did you approach the recording process?
We’ve been recording ourselves for a while now especially due to the original lockdowns so it was important for us to still be able to record on our own.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
I am in looooove with Concrete Jungle Fever by Jerome Farah. I’ve been listening to that on repeat!
What do you like to do away from music?
In lockdown I love getting some sun and going for walks along the coast. I’ve also been writing a lot.
What’s planned for the remainder of 2021 going into 2022?
We’re in the process of finalising our next single so we’ll release that at the end of the year and then move onto another single we have lined up as well for the start of next year.
Favourite food and place to hangout?
We loooove Sun Tat Chinese Restaurant in Strathfield. We’ve been going there as a band for a few years now and the owner Mary is so so lovely so it’s very nostalgic for us.
What’s been happening since we last caught up?
Been in another stage 4 lockdown, which I didn’t think would happen again, oh well! I’ve also been writing heaps of music and rewatching Breaking Bad.
The guitar playing is definitely inspired by the sassy techniques of Nai Palm, and the meandering/wailing vocals are inspired by Jeff Buckley and Florence Welch, as always.
I can’t even really remember, it was late at night I sitting in bed with my guitar. And then I posted a snippet of the song to Tiktok that night and I listened back the next day and was like “hey, that’s not half bad.”
I recorded with Chris Zeng at Fresh Entertainment studios, and it was mixed by Calvin Lauber, most known for his work with Julien Baker (who I am a huge fan of). I love all the magic work Calvin does for the songs of mine he mixes, always comes out better than I could’ve ever imagined.
Fresh Entertainment was very gracious in offering us this studio time as a part of their ‘Mixtape’ of local Mornington Peninsula/Frankston Council artists. You should definitely check that out!
I went in with my partner/bassist Marlon Cini and we recorded with Chris Zeng who was new to the Fresh program, we all worked together so well and it was a tiring but super fun day. That was also the day I recorded my Mojo Pin (by Jeff Buckley) cover which is out aswell.
We used this super moody “Coral Reef” synth and electronic drum sounds that I found mucking around the days before, and also I play my Gretch hollow-body guitar and Marlon used his Fender precision bass.
It’s quite a personal one about mental health struggles, but also the light at the end of the tunnel. And also realising human connection is how I get myself out of dark patches.
I am ADORING Hiatus Kaiyote’s new album ‘Mood Vailant’, I am obsessed with every song, especially ‘Chivalry is Not Dead’.
Working on my Bachelor of Music, and working on a new EP.
A “famous singer” of course!

The track is accompanied by a video directed by Taylor Mansfield, the latest in a series of music videos the pair have collaborated on in the run-up to the mini-album, following ‘Honey’ (recently BBC Radio 1 Introducing’s track of the week) and ‘You Cut Me So Much Slack’. The video expands on the themes of the song, namely loss and how to move on after tragedy, as Molly explains; “The video shows me coming back out from the inner chaos in Slack into the ‘real world’ after the relationship has ended. When you end things with someone it can often feel like you see them in everything, and in the video you see him popping up in every room of the house – I can’t escape him. From there it slips back and forth between reality and fever-dreamish scenarios like an anxiety dream come to life.”
Molly’s mini-album follows her breakout EP Porcupine, released last Autumn to wide critical acclaim, including Pigeons & Planes, Dork, The Line of Best Fit, Steve Lamacq at 6Music and Jack Saunders at BBC Radio 1. It also caught the ears of fellow artists, including Arlo Parks, who chose Molly to appear alongside her takeover of Spotify’s ‘Our Generation’ playlist, commenting of Molly’s music “there was just this sense of rawness and earnestness that really reminded me of things that I’ve lived myself.”
The upcoming project’s genesis came from a return to Molly’s birthplace of New Zealand. Originally intended to be a short stay, her time in New Zealand was extended as UK lockdowns prevailed. As well as spending time with the friends and places she left as a teenager, it also fuelled her resolution to reconnect with the memories and tribulations of her past, and process them through her songwriting. Revolving around the adage of looking back in order to move forward, she describes her coming output as “honest, reflective and hopeful.” Her time back home also allowed her to rediscover the catharsis of playing live, with Molly performing a series of full-capacity headline gigs against the backdrop of New Zealand’s low Covid rates and eased restrictions.
Molly Payton’s first offering came in the form of her debut EP Mess, which was co-produced with Oscar Lang, who she met at her new school soon after relocating to the UK at age 16. This was followed up by 2020s Porcupine, which saw her strike up a new songwriting partnership with producer Oli Barton-Wood, embracing a fuller sound, a direct reflection of her contemporary experiences in London and changing tastes. Praised for her evocative lyricism and evolved songwriting, Slack compromises none of her edge, yet is set to offer a more personal look into the workings of the young songwriter, and forecasts bright things as she returns to London.
‘When Skies Were Always Blue’ is out now, buy/stream it here.

‘Country’ evokes a feeling as universal as it is instantly understood, with lines such as “You know that I’m incapable of changing / Some people just get stuck in their ways / Never thought it’d be me like this / I was meant to be brave,” that see Parsons deliver a vocal performance comparable to Brandon Flowers and Dave Le’aupepe, with lyrics just as authentic and meditative. Visually, ‘Country‘ is brought to life against a recurring backdrop of Liam’s childhood, the 1st Eltham Scouts Hall. “I was always too embarrassed to admit that I was a scout to my school friends, the same way I was too embarrassed to admit that I got piano lessons. Both of those things are ridiculous. Scouts is cool and so are piano lessons” he shares.
Good Morning are rulebreakers. Not in a sexy, flamboyant way – more in a casual, resigned kind of way. Accidental and incidental rulebreakers. The creation and release of their sixth album, Barnyard, is the result of a process of patient refinement and the breaking of a couple of self-imposed rules. Thoughtful, catchy, idiosyncratic, and nearly twice the average length of their back catalogue, it’s all the things one might love about Good Morning, this time around presented with the fat trimmed and the edges sharpened. Recorded at Wilco’s famed studio The Loft, for the first time in a long time the record was made with the help of an outside engineer and will see an international release on a record label not operated by a friend, but instead, Polyvinyl, joining the likes of Alvvays, Julia Jacklin, STRFKR, Kero Kero Bonito and more. A milestone in the history of the band it’s also their most meditative record, thoughtful and careful in its evocations. Not too little and not too much, it’s just right – just Good Morning.
