JUAN WAUTERS Releases new single & video ‘Presentation’ feat. Nick Hakim and Benamin

by the partae January 20, 2021
written by the partae
PRAISE JUAN WAUTERS

“La Onda de Juan Pablo is a rich travelogue packed into 10 effervescent tracks…. a sonically rich, emotionally textured work, driven by the relationships that organically emerged as Wauters found collaborators in every new country he visited.” – Nylon

“The album is picaresque in its depictions of everyday heroes and their daily quests against the decidedly frenzied backdrop of the Uruguayan singer’s American transplant sensibilities.” – NPR

“[Waters] has proved himself to be something of an unrelenting force of joy. His songs are simple little sing-alongs that bask in a youthful naivety.” – Pitchfork

“[Wauters] music… conjures up the folk titans who haunted the streets and coffeeshops of Greenwich Village back in the ’60s.” – AV Club

Today, Juan Wauters releases a new single/video ‘Presentation’ featuring Nick Hakim and Benamin. A longtime denizen of Jackson Heights, Wauters has always captured the sounds and sights of New York in a singular way, and ‘Presentation’ is no exception. The video, directed by Wauters, is an ode to early NYC hip hop aura, featuring breakdancers from the Bronx, a Queens basketball court, and Central Park’s ‘Alice In Wonderland’ statue. Over an eclectic chorus of vocal samples and sound effects, Wauters triumphantly declares “I made it through another year / there’s nothing that I fear / I’m just cooling off.” The new track is a spirited glimpse of more to come from Wauters in 2021. Watch “Presentation” here.

Juan Wauters on ‘Presentation’: “Presentation” was made one night when Nick, Benamin and I met at Nick’s studio in Brooklyn. Nick and I had only met a few times before and Benamin and I met that night. We all hit it off really well and made this song that was built by all of us pitching ideas.

The lyrics are a mash up from a bunch of notes I had scattered on my cell phone. There are many references to other songs, some obvious some not so much. I’d rather not disclose that since that’s the fun for you, the listener.

I wanted the video to be an ode to early NYC hip hop in a very cliché way.

It was filmed during the summer of 2020. At that time, there weren’t many people around the city, a lot of transplants had left and there were no tourists, so that painted the city in a very special tone. Nick, Ben and I met at a playground in Maspeth, Queens with Matthew Volz where we shot some casual footage of us to the song. The day after Matthew and I went to the Bronx to meet with a young crew of breakdancers. It was a really hot day. We filmed with them for about an hour. The dancers really brought the house down. It was so cool to see them all vibe to the music. We also filmed at Central Park’s Alice In Wonderland statue to connect some lyric references.

In many ways, unintentionally, the song as much as the video came out to be a big shoutout to NY and things that have come out there. New York has been one of the main powers pushing behind my creation and this is me saluting it again.”

Until recently, Wauters had viewed his solo project as a singular expression of his artistic vision. A trip through Latin America while recording his last album, however, laid the groundwork for a different approach. Inviting local musicians to contribute to the songs he was working on produced a collection unlike any of his previous work, infused with the musical traditions of each country he’d visited. As a result, 2018’s La Onda De Juan Pablo and its follow-up, Introducing Juan Pablo, were Wauters’ most expansive and sonically diverse records to date, tracing both his Uruguayan roots and his travellers’ spirit.

SCOTT DARLOW RELEASES NEW SINGLE ‘FORGOTTEN AUSTRALIA’ WITH STAR-STUDDED VIDEO

by the partae January 19, 2021
written by the partae

Scott Darlow presents his single ‘Forgotten Australia’, a reminder for Australians to embrace their togetherness and come together to celebrate the things that make our country and its people special.

Scott has today also released the video for ‘Forgotten Australia’, where he is joined by an all-star cast to reflect on their connection to Australia and share stories of what Australia means to them. The video features the likes of John Butler, Kasey Chambers, Robert DiPierdomenico, Anthony Koutafidies, Myf Warhurst, Shelly Ware, Otis Carey, and Kyle Chalmers.

‘Forgotten Australia’ is available digitally and on limited edition 7” vinyl. The 7” also features his 2020 single ‘You Can’t See Black In The Dark (feat. Ian Kenny)’, and is available to purchase here.

Scott Darlow explains the meaning behind ‘Forgotten Australia’: “In my opinion a combination of technology, fear, globalisation and poor messaging from sections of the media have led to a rise in nationalism, less tolerance and less empathy on both sides of the political fence. In some ways, it feels like we’ve never been more divided. We need to embrace each other with a little bit more forgiveness, love, understanding, tolerance and empathy. It’s my hope that this song will remind listeners everywhere that we’re all Australians, one mob, living together on sacred ground.”

A mainstay of Australia’s Indigenous music industry, Scott Darlow is a versatile singer-songwriter, guitarist and didgeridoo player who has sold more than 50,000 albums worldwide. With his singles ‘You Can’t See Black In The Dark’ and ‘Bind The Hands Of Time’, Scott’s music has become a regular feature on the Triple M playlist. Outside of music, Darlow is a passionate First Nations activist and World Vision spokesperson, regularly speaking in hundreds of schools and corporate settings about his indigenous culture, Australian history, racial tolerance, harmony and important social matters.

Thrashville releases full program for 2021 event

by the partae January 19, 2021
written by the partae

Live music lovers can rejoice today as postponed heavy music event Thrashville releases full line-up for its rescheduled date of February 13th 2021.

Held at Dashville at Lower Belford, the one-day camping event features an array of local and regional bands ranging in styles from punk rock to death metal, alongside skateboarding displays and live graff art.

Thrashville is a rare opportunity regardless of COVID and Dashville is proud to be able to deliver such an event in an outdoor COVID Safe environment.

Thrashville’s full 2021 program:

Astrodeath // Basil’s Kite // Battlesnake // Boudicca // C.O.F.F.I.N  Chop // Dark Order // HOON // No Quarter // PurEnvY // Ragdoll  Scabz // Whatever // Zombonimo

Since the festivals debut in January 2017, the grass roots one day camping event, has proven to be a key event in the ‘heavy’ music calendar, being sorely missed in 2019 and 2020 due to drought, bush fires and COVID respectfully.

Event organiser Dashville has persevered in a very tricky environment to produce a quality experience for their much loved, but under serviced, metal, punk and rock fans with Thrashville being one of the only ‘slightly heavier’ outdoor festivals still in existence.

Organisers concede it has been very challenging planning in such uncertain times. However, through the success of other COVID safe events held at the pristine rural site, alongside the importance of Thrashville to its community, it wasn’t hard to find the encouragement to persevere, curating a quality experience, albeit slightly smaller than usual and delivered at the final hour, due to working within a changing COVID safe environment.

Despite a reduced capacity and a designated seating area, organisers are confident the heavy music community will come out to support the artists and enjoy the event responsibly.

‘We’re all in this together, Dashville has been hosting events since August last year and it’s amazing how people are willing to work within the boundaries and adapt in order to get along and enjoy themselves.’ Says organiser Matt Johnston

Thrashville is rated MA15+, it is a fully licensed one day event with onsite camping. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times.

For further event information and ticketing please head to www.dashville.com.au/thrashville

Iconic 80’s Chicago House Label DJ International Relaunches With Anthony Thomas’ ‘Promised Land’ | Stream Now

by the partae January 18, 2021
written by the partae

‘Brothers, Sisters…’

DJ International is the iconic record label steeped in authenticity and dance music history. It was the label that introduced the world to Chicago House, birthing it and nurturing it in its infancy, releasing the first ever House Music long player in 1986 ‘The House Sound Of Chicago’. It is a label with an outstanding discography populated by the now legendary artists of the time, untouchable DJs like Frankie Knuckles, Fingers Inc (Larry Heard & Robert Owens), Ron Hardy, Steve ‘Silk” Hurley, Farley ‘Jackmaster’ Funk, Joe Smooth, Darryl Pandy and Marshall Jefferson.

It now relaunches and returns in 2021 acquired and under exclusive license to Last Man Music, still with its original and inimitable founder at its helm Rocky Jones and the very same forward looking House music ideology, focusing on new artists as well as reintroducing the ultimate classics of the past, beginning 2021 with Anthony Thomas ’Promised Land’.

Arguably up there as one of the greatest House records ever made ‘Promised Land’ came in at the very start of the House music movement. Originally released in 1987 by the original producer Joe Smooth and created in the spiritual home of all House Music, Chicago. Later the track crossed over international borders becoming an iconic moment globally going on to represent the essence of Ibiza’s Balearic beat. Anthony Thomas, who is the original vocalist, has now re-recorded the track, updating it but keeping the original feel, reinforcing his unifying and soulful lyrics. It was the power of these lyrics that made this a massive underground dancefloor hit with the ecstasy generation of the late 80’s and early 90’s worldwide.

For DJ International as a label it didn’t stop there; the imprint was responsible for introducing the world to Farley Jackmaster Funk with his unforgettable release ‘Love Can’t Turn Around’ (1986) as well as other genre defining moments including Marshall Jefferson’s ‘Move Your Body’ and Steve Silk Hurley’s ‘Jack Your Body’. The latter riding a bassline from First Choice’s disco classic ‘Let No Man Put Asunder‘ earning a surprise 1987 UK No.1.
In August 2020, DJ International tested the waters for a formal return and debuted a posthumous Frankie Knuckles track ‘Carefree (I Am A Star)’ as the first release from the forthcoming Jackmaster 7 album, a follow-up to six Jackmaster albums the label put out between 1987 and 1991.

With one eye on its past heritage and iconic status and a long-term view to bring us new fresh and original House music acts of tomorrow, we are sure that DJ International will once again take its place alongside the other great labels of contemporary House Music culture.

DESCENDENTS SHARE NEW TRACK ‘THAT’S THE BREAKS’

by the partae January 18, 2021
written by the partae

Legendary punk band Descendents share their new track “That’s The Breaks.” The track follows the politically-charged two-song single Suffrage, released ahead of the 2020 general election encouraging voting to take down the Trump administration. In triumph, “That’s The Breaks” serves as a farewell to 45 ahead of the upcoming inauguration.

“Loser.  Big time loser.  Delusional loser. SORE loser.  The time has come.  The time is now.  Just go, go, GO.  I don’t care how. Donald J. Trump, will you please go now!,” adds vocalist Milo Aukerman. “What’s it gonna take?  A gazillion dollars? (Oh wait, you already grifted that from supporters)… A get out of jail free card? (Only if our judicial system totally fails us)… A wooden stake through the heart?  Whatever we can do to make you go away, we need to do it.  And I don’t mean just leave the White House, I mean crawl back into your hole of hate and live out the rest of your life as a nobody.  A loser.  Because that’s what you are.  Worst. President. Ever.”

LISTEN TO “THAT’S THE BREAKS”

Formed in 1978 Descendents are Milo Aukerman (vocals), Stephen Egerton (guitar), Karl Alvarez (bass), and Bill Stevenson (drums). They have released seven studio albums, Milo Goes to College (1982), I Don’t Want to Grow Up (1985), Enjoy! (1986), All (1987), Everything Sucks (1996), Cool to Be You (2004), and Hypercaffium Spazzinate (2016).

With more than two million albums sold globally, Missy is truly one of Australia’s greatest musicians, her live performance sure to captivate audiences this weekend.

Global powerhouse Tones And I joins Missy Higgins in co-headlining 2021 SOUNDS BETTER TOGETHER at Mt Duneed Estate on Saturday. Hailing from Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, Tones is Australia’s biggest international success story, a multi-platinum singer-songwriter amassing a record number of global streams of her hit single ‘Dance Monkey’, along with follow up singles ‘Never Seen The Rain’, new single ‘Fly Away’, which is climbing charts globally and more (‘Dance Monkey’ has also taken the crown for the Most Shazamed song of all time!).

With a “remarkable voice that can go from hushed to hurricane” (Sydney Morning Herald), Tones And I is without doubt one of the most exciting artists to emerge from Australia in years. “It’s great to be a part of Sounds Better Together and bring live music back to Victoria”, says Tones. It’s going to be an epic night of music, when these legendary ladies join forces for Victorian audiences in a matter of days!

Sydney-via-Canowindra artist Gordi joins a huge line-up at Mt Duneed on the weekend. Alongside working her day job as a doctor, a particularly remarkable feat during COVID, the acclaimed singer-songwriter released her second studio album, Our Two Skins in June last year, garnering critical praise, two J Award nomination’s (Australian Album of the Year and Artist of the Year). Gordi said, “I’m thrilled to be coming together to bring live music back to Victoria, it’s going to be really special.”

Rounding out Mt Duneed’s sensational program is Warrnambool singer-songwriter Didirri. Known for his ethereal vocals, poetic, candid songwriting, and captivating on-stage presence, Didirri’s performance will stay with music lovers long after his set has finished.

Music legend Jimmy Barnes needs no introduction. The master singer-songwriter-performer will deliver headline performances with his band at the Yarra Valley’s Rochford Wines on 23 January and Rutherglen’s All Saints on 25 January.

Jimmy Barnes is the heart and soul of Australian rock’n’roll. He has been inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame twice, sold over 13 million albums, scored 17 #1 albums on the ARIA Charts, a feat that not even The Beatles have achieved. For more than 40 years, Barnesy has delivered some of our most intense and iconic live performances, with anthems like ‘Working Class Man’, ‘Flame Trees’, and ‘No Second Prize’ rocking pubs, arenas and stadiums across the globe. His bestselling memoirs have sold more than 500,000 copies and won the ABIA Biography Book of the Year Award in 2017 and 2018 – the only Australian author to do so twice. Jimmy’s latest book, Killing Time, short stories from the long road home, was released in late 2019 and went to #1 on the Non-Fiction book chart.
Released in 2019, Jimmy’s latest album, My Criminal Record, picked up on many of the themes in his books and spawned the hit singles, Shutting Down Our Town and I Won’t Let You Down.

Jimmy said, “It’s so great to be a part of these shows. I get to take the stage with The Teskey Brothers, Daryl Braithwaite, Vika & Linda and more. I love playing music and it always sounds so much better playing live in front of a Victorian audience. Bring it on!”

One of Melbourne’s greatest success stories, The Teskey Brothers are a rare musical gem. A raw combination of soul and blues, the four-piece have wowed audiences around the world with their undeniable live show. They join Jimmy Barnes for an evening of blues and rock in the stunning Yarra Valley this weekend. “We’re very excited to be playing this surprise show,” says bassist Brendan Love, “but especially because our first show of 2021 is with the legendary Jimmy Barnes. We can’t wait.”

Responsible for some of Australia’s best-loved songs, from the undeniable ‘The Horses’ to HOWZAT’, ‘One Summer’ and more, Daryl Braithwaite is a local music titan. An ARIA Hall of fame inductee, his latest single ‘Love Songs’ saw the music icon return to the ARIA Singles chart in 2020. Daryl has launched a brand-new chapter in his unparalleled career and will enthrall audiences in Rutherglen and Mallacoota this month.

Lauded songstress Deborah Conway has been a staple of the Australian music scene since the 80’s, when she made waves fronting pop rock outfit Do-Re-Mi. She’s a multi-ARIA Award winner, has multiple Gold albums under her belt, and was inducted into the Live Legends Hall of Fame at the 2019 National Live Music Awards.

James Reyne’s songs have provided the soundtrack to endless Australian summers, and they’ll continue to do so at Mallacoota Oval on the eve of 30 January. With 19 x Top 40 hits across his celebrated career, Reyne is an ARIA Hall of Famer that has sold out shows around the world both solo and out front of the legendary Australian Crawl. His twelfth studio album Toon Town Lullaby was released last year, and sees Reyne focused firmly on the future.

Together with Daryl Braithwaite, Vika & Linda and Mia Wray, local audiences will be treated to a night of Australia’s finest talent in Mallacoota later this month.

Vika and Linda Bull are Australia’s most revered singing sisters, known for their rich vocal harmonies and stylistic breadth. After three classic albums with The Black Sorrows, Vika & Linda have released six studio albums, two live albums and a chart-topping anthology. They have also sung on number one albums by Paul Kelly, Kasey Chambers and John Farnham, done gigs for the Dalai Lama, Nelson Mandela and the King of Tonga, and been nominated for four ARIA Awards.

And recently, whilst still celebrating the recent release of their first ever best-of collection (and first ARIA #1) ‘Akilotoa (Anthology 1996-2004), Vika & Linda have wasted no time in following up with an inspired album of gospel songs titled Sunday (The Gospel According To Iso), out now (ARIA #2).

Last year, Melbourne artist Mia Wray made a grand debut with her single ‘Work For Me’, which captured the attention of tastemakers around the country. Her soulful voice has drawn comparison to the likes of Lorde and Meg Mac, but Mia Wray is carving her own path and is a talent to watch in 2021.

KING STINGRAY DEBUT NEW TRACK 'GET ME OUT' . OUT TODAY VIA BARGAIN BIN RECORDS

KING STINGRAY DEBUT NEW TRACK ‘GET ME OUT’ . OUT TODAY VIA BARGAIN BIN RECORDS

by the partae January 18, 2021
written by the partae

Yolŋu surf-rock band, King Stingray have today released their brand new single ‘Get Me Out‘.

Get Me Out follows on from their hugely successful debut track, Hey Wanhaka, which was added instantly to triple j and radio across the country, propelling the band into the spotlight and delighting audiences with their fresh new Yolŋu surf-rock sound.

A cruisy tune about getting out of the city and heading to the bush, Get Me Out tells the story of the long journey back home. The inspiration for Get Me Out was sparked when King Stingray were on tour with Yothu Yindi when one of their family members got lost in the city of Melbourne.

“She had no phone. Yolŋu style, she navigated her way back to us miraculously and we now laugh about it.”

Get Me Out was penned mid-tour, with their hometown Yirrkala at the forefront of their minds, longing for the bush and the sea back at home in North-East Arnhem Land.

“When we see the sun go down, when we see that djapana, wherever we are, we know our home is never far away. Yirrŋa and I wrote this song when we were away on tour. We were thinking about our hometown Yirrkala. But when we saw the sun go down and we saw that sunset we had a mutual feeling of living under the one sun, living under the same sun. Wherever we are, at whatever time zone, there’s still just one sun. Seeing that sunset lets us know that our home is never far away.”

KING STINGRAY – GET ME OUT

LISTEN / BUY HERE.

About King Stingray:

King Stingray are a four piece from Yirrkala, North-East Arnhem Land. Formed by Yirrŋa Yunupiŋu (nephew of the late Dr M Yunupiŋu – Yothu Yindi frontman) and Roy Kellaway (son of Stu Kellaway – Yothu Yindi founding member and bass player), King Stingray blend ancient indigenous melodies with surf, indie and funk influences to create a genre of their own, Yolŋu surf-rock.

King Stingray is a story of lifelong friendship, of two cultures coming together. From toddlers in the Yothu Yindi tour entourage in the 90s, to fully fledged Yothu Yindi members today, Yirrŋa (current lead singer of Yothu Yindi) and Roy (current guitarist of Yothu Yindi and Emily Wurramara) have been playing and making music together for as long as they can remember. King Stingray seamlessly blends Yirrŋa’s timeless Yolŋu manikay vocals with Roy’s indie pop credentials (Mary Handsome, Django George).

Young multi-instrumentalist Dimathaya Burarrwanga joins the King Stingray line-up on drums and percussion, with Campbell Messer taking care of bass and back up vocals.

Hey Wanhaka and Get Me Out are both out now via Bargain Bin Records.

“…if Yothu Yindi is the family business, King Stingray is the fast-growing franchise that threatens to take over.” – The Guardian

“…An instant classic” – Claire Mooney, triple j Unearthed (5 stars)

“Iconic stuff” – Steph Hughes, triple j Unearthed (5 stars)

TAKES TO MELBOURNE’S SIDNEY MYER MUSIC BOWL ON
THURSDAY 18 MARCH AS PART OF THE LIVE AT THE BOWL CONCERT SERIES
SPECIAL GUEST TINA DEL TWIST

  • Em Rusciano will return to the stage at Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl on Thursday 18 March
  • Rusciano’s career has seen the multi-talented entertainer and breakfast radio co-host release her own podcast ‘Emsolation’, chart-topping songs, best-selling books and regularly feature as a host on Network Ten’s ‘The Project’.
  • Tina Del Twist confirmed as special guest
  • Tickets to Rusciano’s highly anticipated performance go on sale Thursday 21 January at 12noon AEDT

Frontier Touring is delighted to announce that Em Rusciano, one of Australia’s most well-rounded and talented performers, will be taking to the stage at Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl on Thursday 18 March.

Em’s performance is part of the Live at the Bowl concert series which sees Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl host a now four-month-long festival going through to the end of April featuring an all-local program of music, comedy, family-friendly events and more.

With her finger firmly in every piece of the entertainment pie, Rusciano’s varied career has seen her co-host breakfast radio, release chart-topping songs and best-selling books and audiobooks, feature as a regular host on Channel Ten’s ‘The Project’, and sell out the Sydney Opera House, Melbourne’s Palais Theatre and Queensland Performing Arts Centre with her live comedy shows.

‘With Rusciano there are no censors, no apologies and absolutely no holding back. And it makes for one hell of a show.’ – Adelaide Now

‘She has the kind of inborn charisma a hundred other acts around town wish they could buy off-the-rack.’ – Herald Sun

Rusciano’s Live at the Bowl performance will be intimate and stripped back: no giant dancing appendages, just Em connecting with her beloved community after a lengthy time apart. The multi-talented performer will bring her band, her beloved dad Vince and a year’s worth of built-up frustration ready to burst forth in a delightfully unhinged way over those of you lucky enough to snap up tickets.
“I’m beyond excited to be playing at the Sidney Myer Music bowl after basically hibernating for a year, I imagine it’ll be like my own carols by candlelight only with swearing and way more sequins (if you can believe it). I’ve really missed my audience and their electric enthusiasm, I may just get on stage and cry for two hours out of relief and joy. So Melbourne I need you to prepare your sensible flat dancing shoes and stretchy leopard print pants and get ready to release the pent up frustrations of 2020, but also know you’ll be home tucked up in bed by 10:30pm because I’ve got your back. See you in March, I can’t wait!” – Em Rusciano

Joining Em as special guest at her performance will be the fabulous Tina Del Twist. Truly unique, Tina Del Twist’s talents range from television features (ABC TV’s Comedy Up Late) to cabaret leads (Melbourne Cabaret Festival), and of course, sell-out Comedy Festival seasons (Melbourne International Comedy Festival). And then some.

Tickets to Em Rusciano’s Live at the Bowl performance will go on sale at 12noon AEDT on Thursday 21 January, secure tickets early to avoid disappointment.

SYNTHONY TO LIGHT UP MELBOURNE FOR A ‘ONE NIGHT ONLY’ SHOW LIVE AT THE BOWL

by the partae January 18, 2021
written by the partae

In Brief:

The sell-out success, Synthony, comes to Melbourne for the first time for a ‘One Night Only’ epic outdoor show! The ultimate celebration of the last 30 years of Dance Music, Synthony is a unique collaboration between Orchestra, DJs, live vocalists and feature musicians.

The super-charged and energetic Synthony will showcase the biggest dance anthems from icons such as: Avicii, Eric Prydz, Fatboy Slim and Basement Jaxx to name just a few, backed with the full might of a 60+ piece Synthony Orchestra.  The show is stacked with iconic stars from across the Australian music spectrum playing their global hits including: Miss Connie (Sneaky Sound System), Ilan Kidron (The Potbelleez), Jenny B (Corona), Mobin Master, Andy Van (Madison Avenue / Vicious Records) and Mark Dynamix.

With an epic backdrop of visuals, lasers and a state-of-the-art sound system, it’s a magical, uplifting, hands-in-the-air dance party like no other.  An energetic show from the outset, this is not an Orchestra as you know it.  This celebration of Dance Music is more than just a show, it takes the audience on a nostalgic journey back through their most memorable dance music experiences.  Track after track, fans are taken down memory lane and will celebrate dance music that is embedded into their subconscious.

Synthony’s New Zealand shows (since 2017) have been attended by ‘Sold Out’ audiences (as well as its debut into Australia in Brisbane, 2019).  After successful shows across New Zealand (over the last few months, including a sold-out show at Spark Arena, Auckland) and the orchestral extravaganza’s first outdoor show at the magical natural Amphitheatre of the Bowl of Brooklands (New Plymouth), the tour will expand to Melbourne this April, as part of the: ‘Live at the Bowl’ Summer series at the ‘Sidney Myer Music Bowl.’

Synthony Australia will include some of Australia’s Dance Music’s favourite Artists, who are also behind some massive hits, such as:

Miss Connie (Sneaky Sound System) – ‘Pictures,’ ‘I Love It,’ ‘UFO,’ ‘Kansas City’ and more..

Ilan Kidron (The Potbelleez) – ‘Don’t Hold Back,’ ‘Hello,’ ‘Junkyard’ and more..

Jenny B (Corona) – ‘The Rhythm of the Night,’ featured vocalist for J.K, Nevada, Culture Beat and more..

+ more to be announced.

Hosted by: Mobin Master – ‘Show Me Love,’ ‘Get Away With It,’ ‘Lights Out’ and more..

Support by: Andy Van (Madison Avenue // Super Disco Club) and Mark Dynamix

It’s no secret that 2020 has been a tumultuous rollercoaster for event promoters.  The Synthony tour was due to be announced just days before New Zealand went into Level 4 lockdown and the future of the tour all of a sudden became awfully uncertain.  Shows across Australia, Asia, and the U.S were in the pipeline for 2020.  Months of preparation and negotiations with Artists, Venues and Sponsors were all dashed and the team behind Synthony, had to rebuild the program all over again.

___________________________________________________________

Duco Events Promoter Rachael Carroll says she’s incredibly excited to bring the show back to Australia and hold the first outdoor show at the iconic ‘Sidney Myer Music Bowl’: “Given the circumstances, it’s amazing to be able to bring this show to the music hub of Australia – Melbourne and have our show at the ‘Sidney Myer Music Bowl.’ We know as soon as Melbournians see this show, they’ll be coming back year after year.”

The show will be run in a Covid-safe environment set up by the Arts Centre Melbourne, that will include socially spaced tables and seats and innovative private decks for groups of up to 6 people.  Carroll stated: “The Covid safe set up at the Bowl, is an incredible innovation by the Arts Centre Melbourne.  We are going full throttle with this show, so fans can expect an amazing high energy experience in a socially distanced safe format.  After everything Melburnians have been through, we can’t wait to put on this epic dance party for them!”

The Synthony show has only been possible thanks to the support of the Restart Investment to Sustain and Expand (RISE) Fund – an Australian Government initiative. “We certainly would not be putting on this show without the RISE funding support from the Australian Government and support from Arts Centre Melbourne.  These partners have given us the confidence to invest, take risks and put on events, that will see some Artists and suppliers secure their first job and income after a very long break in event activity,” said Carroll.

About Synthony

Founded in 2017 by DJ and producer, Erika Amoore and fellow Kiwi David Elmsly, Synthony sold out its first ever show at the Auckland Town Hall to a packed house and unprecedented reviews.  The show’s creation brought together key New Zealand talent, with Peter Thomas, conductor and music director of the Auckland Symphony Orchestra believing in the unique concept and enlisting the services of Ryan Youens, an arranger with hundreds of professional credits to his name, including film scores for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Desolation of Smaug.

After sold-out events at Auckland Town Hall in 2017 and 2018, Duco Events, a major event promoter with a 16-year track-record, purchased the concept with an ambitious long-term vision to expand the event from one city to multiple venues and cities across the globe.  In 2019, they took the show to Brisbane, Australia and also sold out five shows across NZ later that year.  Over six shows, four Orchestras and hundreds of musicians played to over 14,000 fans in 2019.

In 2020, Synthony staged its biggest ever NZ-wide tour, supporting the live music industry’s recovery post COVID19.  Synthony returns to Australia this April for its first outdoor show at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl, Melbourne with other Australian cities to be announced, followed by other international markets.

About ‘Live at the Bowl’:

INDIGO SPARKE Signs to Sacred Bones Shares new single ‘Everything Everything’ Announces new release date for debut album

PRAISE FOR INDIGO SPARKE

“I had the privilege and pleasure of getting to help Indigo put these recordings together back in April and throughout 2019. These songs became near and dear to me, and it was beautiful to help build the billowy landscapes within them. Indigo’s writing and voice are ethereal and angelic and guide me through internal canyons and plains. I’m deeply grateful to have been part of this and to have gotten to play and sing along side Indigo, and to have been able to eternalize a very special space and time with her, which I will always cherish.”
– Adrianne Lenker

“With these songs and her filament voice, Indigo brings us in to a private place and lights a fire there.” – Feist

“Indigo Sparke balance[s] heavy, reverb-drenched verses with moments of airy and acoustic whispers. This Australian artist tackles themes of vulnerability and femininity with an eye on life through a different lens.” – NPR, All Songs Considered

“Achingly beautiful and heart-wrenching… Feels impossibly intimate and vast at once, like a cherished secret that, once shared, becomes universal truth.” – Gorilla vs Bear

“Gorgeous and gentle… Sparke sings in an ethereal voice of the kind of love that makes you feel safe.” – Consequence of Sound

“If you like the hushed, delicate folk of Adrianne [Lenker]’s own material, you’re probably going to like this song too. Indigo is a natural, and this song hooks you in with little more than her voice and guitar.” -Brooklyn Vegan

“Sadly beautiful, haunting… Deceptively complex on an emotional level.” – Beats Per Minute

“A glowing guitar lullaby.” – Stereogum

Australian artist Indigo Sparke has signed to Sacred Bones and announced a new release date for her debut album, Echo, now due February 19th. To celebrate, she has shared a video for the album’s latest single ‘Everything Everything.’

Of the song, Sparke says “I wrote this song not long after coming back from a magical castle in Italy where a group of us had been making music and soaking in the golden honey days. I met a beautiful human Shahzad Ismaily who had discovered I also write poetry. One night around midnight he called across the castle and asked me to come over and speak some of my poetry over an instrumental track he had recorded. The only thing he asked me to do was to sing a line or so if I felt it. That song was dog bark echo. He invited me back to NYC and I was living in his empty spare room in Brooklyn briefly. I borrowed this little parlour guitar of his and completely fell in love. I just sat in that room for hours and days playing around and just laying next to the guitar looking at the ceiling thinking about life and death and the poetry of it all. How life and death will hold us up to light. How grief ripens inside us all and we all decay and everything changes and flies away. I remember feeling this liberating sense of freedom and melancholic nostalgia. It was so hot and the wind almost blew through from a different dimension or plane. I guess the song came through from that place too. It just came out. I can almost still feel that time on my skin, or in my breath.”

Indigo Sparke brings her deeply personal lived experiences to her music, highlighting the spaces between the polarity of softness and grit. Pulling from her experiences of addiction, of healing, of queerness, of heartbreak, of joy, of connection, of the softness and of the grit alchemizing it all into tenderness through her music, she conjures up a myriad of feelings that is undeniably potent.

Echo, which was co-produced by Sparke, Big Thief’s Adrianne Lenker and Andrew Sarlo, is available for pre-order now and due February 19th via Sacred Bones.

Indigo was born in the belly of Sydney, Australia straight into the heart of a family with music in their bones. Her parents, a jazz singer and a musician, named her after the Duke Ellington song ‘Mood Indigo,’ and her childhood was spent serenaded by a rich soundtrack of Joni Mitchell and Neil Young. From a young age Indigo felt called to the stage, attending a performing arts high school, and followed it with three years in an acting school, working as an actress before embedding herself and heeding the call to the path of music.

Indigo taught herself to play guitar in her early twenties. Over the next few years, she established herself on the Australian music scene, and released her EP Night Bloom in 2016.  Indigo’s career continually bloomed, opening for Big Thief on the Australian dates of their 2017/ 2018 tour, and then was invited to play at South by Southwest 2019. There, NPR‘s Bob Boilen was first taken by Indigo, writing that her lyrics “both cut hard and comfort” and that her performance “balanced heavy, reverb-drenched verses with moments of airy and acoustic whispers.” Sparke began 2020 with a February Tiny Desk Concert at NPR, and had been booked as the opening act for Big Thief‘s sold-out tour of Australia and New Zealand, including a scheduled performance at the Sydney Opera House before Covid-19 saw everything change.

It was in 2019 that Indigo lived and travelled across America, in places like NYC, Minneapolis, Topanga, Taos, in many hotel rooms and amidst the vast stretching landscapes on the never ending highways, channelling her creative energy into the completion of her latest album, echo. echo was recorded between LA, Italy and New York, co-produced by Sparke, Adrianne Lenker (of Big Thief), and Andrew Sarlo (producer of Big Thief, Nick Hakim, Bon Iver, Hand Habits, etc). The record was completed at Figure 8 Studio in New York City, studio of musician Shahzad Ismaily. Phil Weinrobe (producer/engineer for Leonard Cohen, Damien Rice, Adrianne Lenker, Buck Meek, etc) engineered and mixed the album.Of this incredibly deep and intimate record, Indigo says, “When writing and recording the record, I wondered how it would all come together. I felt like I was standing back in the desert, looking up at the blue night sky, wondering how all the stars would connect. I think sometimes it’s the dark matter or void space between them, that holds it all together. This record is an ode to death and decay. And the restlessness I feel to belong to something greater. Adrianne and I talked so much about keeping the record stripped back and simple, that is, we are all just constantly getting stripped back and humbled by life.”

Indigo’s art searches for the vulnerability that comes with a feeling of true safety, a vulnerability that can grant access to a world behind tangible experience. It is clear Indigo has lived and woven her many lives into these songs, telling us, “I feel and have often felt a million different women ramble and reconfigure the corners of my mind and soul. I think in my life, I have ricocheted off so many different walls within myself. It’s an endless search to understand the mysteries of life and love and history. As soon as you think you’ve got it, it’s gone. Sometimes I feel so thin. Sometimes I feel so robust. I think that comes through the music.”

While Indigo’s songs are an oceanic experience of emotion, her poetry is grounded. Like stone markers on the path, her poems are left for the reader as crossroads where something takes over beyond the logical mind. The visual realm has always been a part of Indigo’s writing process; songs and poems come to her as landscapes and human compositions, and her relationship with the camera is as natural as with the guitar. Indigo’s photography is a collaborative emotional practice that builds trust with the subject and helps them witness themselves in their most beautiful state. Photography’s compositional power has also led Indigo to re-imagine her work as an actress. Rather than working solely in front of the camera, she is transitioning into a role as composer and creative director, making projects that she can step into as subject rather than object.

“I feel that death and time hang over me like questions, I have felt the shimmer and the edge for so long now but what I long for are the worlds of safety and safe love. There are so many windows in life to look through and so many ways to heal and express. My photography, poetry and music, were born at a juncture mirroring different parts of me. I see and feel visually, I am obsessed with immortalizing memory.”

UPCOMING R&B ARTIST MAKALITA UNVEILS NEW SINGLE ‘DO THIS’

by the partae January 18, 2021
written by the partae

Hailing from Western Sydney, Australia, Makalita is a female R&B Singer/Songwriter of Tongan heritage. Makalita is a self-taught independent artist who has been refining her skills over the years and has equipped herself with a diverse skill set. At just 21 years of age, Makalita brings a mature yet young, fresh, and unique sound back into the music industry, which audiences have been searching for. With her Debut Single Australian upcoming R&B artist, Makalita has released her debut single “Do This.

‘Do This’ is a smooth but confrontational upbeat track with somber lyrics, which captures the whole essence of Makalita’s message. Makalita’s greatest inspiration derives from growing up listening to Old School 90’s R&B, to artists such as Queen Naija, Summer Walker and Jhene Aiko. This has inspired Makalita to bring back that Old School vibe with a unique twist of new age ‘R&B-Trap Soul’ that is missing, and audiences are longing for in the music industry today.

‘Do This’ arrives alongside an iconic music video directed by Kreezy Visions and produced by Sueno Productions who has previously worked with Hooligan Hefs, Youngn Lipz, Will Singe and many more.

The video further showcases a vulnerable young woman deceived by someone who she thought was her partner, but in fact, he was married with a child.

This release aims to bring awareness to the toxicity in relationships, both emotionally and mentally.

It happens, it’s real and for this generation someone needs to start the conversation, so I will,” Makalita says.

Nicky Romero is kicking off 2021 on a positive note with the release of his new single “Into The Light,” a true progressive house jewel for which he teamed up with Protocol talent Timmo Hendriks and Arizona-based singer/songwriter David Shane. Opening with upbeat piano melodies layered over a steadily building bassline, “Into The Light” reaches its crescendo with a goosebump-inducing drop. Shane‘s soulful vocals serve at the emotive cherry-on-top for a track that sees Nicky returning to his signature sound after 2020’s pop-oriented Universal Music debut “Nights With You.” On the other hand, “Into The Light” follows Timmo Hendriks‘s single “Memories,” featuring Jordan Grace.

After taking the world by storm with early hits such as ‘Legacy‘ (with Krewella) and #1 single ‘I Could Be The One‘ (with Avicii), Nicky Romero quickly proved that his talent is ever-evolving and here to stay. After launching his Protocol Recordings imprint in 2012, the renowned performer, producer, and label head continued his personal successes with a string of high-profile releases, ranging from collaborations with Armin van Buuren, David Guetta, Mike Williams & Amba Shepherd, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, W&W, DallasK & XYLØ, Timmy Trumpet and Steve Aoki & Kiiara to remixes for the likes of Robin Schulz, Kygo, Rita Ora, Steve Aoki, Martin Garrix, Jess Glynne and more. While showcasing his label’s roster via his weekly Protocol Radio show, Nicky Romero continues to innovate and evolve during these unprecedented times in the music industry. He debuted his ultra-modern “Another World” live stream concept last summer and launched the Monocule alter-ego. If quarantine has proved anything, it’s that the Protocol crew is never one to slack on new music.

Now celebrating over 2 years on the label, Dutch artist Timmo Hendriks first made his debut on the label with 2018’s “In My Head,” with Lennart Schroot, followed by “Thinking About You” as part of Protocol‘s “Miami 2019” EP, which has currently garnered over 3M streams on Spotify. His next releases, such as “Magical” with Lindequist, “By Your Side” with Jordan Grace, or “Be Alright” with Marc Benjamin, continued to show increased energy and a more mature production style. Hendriks‘s other notable tracks on Nicky Romero‘s label include “Keep Me Close” with Dash Berlin and “Deserve My Time” with Trilane. He is quickly becoming a household name and veteran of the Protocol team. Keep an eye out for what’s next!

LISTEN TO ‘CRIMSON MASK’ HERE

With their fourth full length ‘Bystander’ scheduled for release on February 12th, 2021 via Spunk Records & Osborne Again (AUS/NZ) and Nice Guys Records (Rest of world), Cool Sounds share the second single ‘Crimson Mask’. Where the first single ‘Back To Me’ leant into classic 70s soft rock territory, Crimson Mask is Cool Sounds in a more buoyant and raucous mood.

Frontperson Dainis Lacey says of the track: “I wrote this song about the idea of clinging to the past a little too tightly. It’s a mildly raucous, conga banging, Velvet Underground inspired track about a depressed, alcoholic dad who dresses ‘a little Jerry Seinfeld, Chandler from Friends or Pacey from Dawson’s Creek and is scared of the kids in the neighbourhood. He loves wrestling and classic rock.”

A little about Cool Sounds and Bystander

Melbourne’s Cool Sounds make records that move deftly and playfully through indie-rock, pop, and alt-country. The band are defined by their signature guitar lines, as catchy as any chorus, as well as a beloved live show that sees six musicians crowded onstage. Lead singer and songwriter Dainis Lacey has been making music as Cool Sounds for years, but the band found a unique sound on their 2018 album Cactus Country and 2019’s More To Enjoy, which was nominated for the AIR Award for Best Independent Country Album. On Bystander, the new album out February 12, Cool Sounds are more attuned to their surroundings than ever: written during a European summer and recorded in three weeks over the following Australian one, Bystander isn’t always as laid back as the warm weather might suggest. With more of a focus on lyrics than ever before, Bystander, is at turns introspective, self-aware, irreverent and unflinchingly observant. All of the band’s essential elements are here – those guitar licks, vocal melodies that dip and spike then smooth out, and clever, understated rhythmic changes – but as lyrics are brought to the forefront, the band’s agile, elastic arrangements feel all the more essential.
