DREGG DROP “I’M DONE” (CHEWED UP, FEAT. TEETHER) REMIX COLLAB WITH AUSSIE HIP HOP ARTIST

Melbourne anomalistic collective DREGG have remixed their recent single “I’m Done”. The result is “I’m Done (Chewed Up)”, a slammin’ collab featuring up and coming Aussie rapper Teether.

LISTEN / WATCH I’M DONE (CHEWED UP, FEAT. TEETHER)

I’m Done is a song that explores the idea of breaking down ones ego to rebuild it for a greater purpose. Not just for the people around you but for your own sanity and prosperity.

DREGG make powerfully energetic music, driven by themes of fierce individualism, with a sound that hungrily consumes metal, hardcore, and rap, only to heave it back up in a colourful rainbow of bombastic brutality and iconoclastic absurdity.

DREGG is Christopher Mackertich (vocals), Jordan McQuitty (guitar), Sam Yates (guitar), Aiden Zovic (bass), and Horhay Delalopez (drums).

merci, mercy Releases New Single ‘Tequila & Lemonade’ With Animated Lyric Video + Debut EP no thank you, no thanks Out This Friday + All Four Sydney Shows Now Sold Out + Free Live-Stream Access For Fourth And Final Show Still Available

“A knack for navigating palpable tensions, and translating them into refined, guitar-led melodies.” – V Magazine
“The energy is high and the music is as vibrant as her hair.” – Ones To Watch
“Boisterous and triumphant in its presentation…” – Lyrical Lemonade
“An insight into youthful chaos and confusion.” – FLAUNT
“Combining youthful, quirky lyrics with an intensely catchy beat…” – EUPHORIA
“Infectious electronica-infused pop…” – Atwood Magazine

LISTEN: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZklAcxveME

With only a few short days left until the release of her EP no thank you, no thanks, and the same day as the first of four sold-out Oxford Art Factory debut shows, Sydney based songstress merci, mercy is excited to present her new single ‘Tequila & Lemonade’.  As with her previously released tracks, ‘Fucked Myself Up’, ‘Fall Apart’ and ‘Something You Like’, the effervescent new song arrives with another quirkily animated lyric video from Bianca Bosso.

If merci, mercy’s latest release ‘Something You Like’ forms the heart of her debut EP, then ‘Tequila & Lemonade’ is definitely the party-starter – a euphoric, hands-in-the-air anthem with plenty of the bite. The song was produced with Edwin White (Vance Joy) and Joel Quartermain (G Flip, Meg Mac) and taps into thoughts of escapism.
“’Tequila & Lemonade’ took the longest of all songs on the EP to write. It touches on similar themes to ‘Fucked Myself Up,’ it’s about feeling trapped in your own head and looking for ways to escape and feel confident.” – merci, mercy
Released this Friday, merci, mercy’s brilliant six track EP is a kaleidoscopic alt-pop journey through anxiety and self-examination, swirling and evolving as its mood and vibe swings through exultation to darkness in equal measure. In her music, she confronts inner demons, self-doubt, and the cynicism associated with love.
“It turns out all the songs are to do with relationships,” she explains. “With other people, with alcohol, with my anxiety, and with myself. It was quite a therapeutic process for me to write these songs and I hope they might connect with people who have been through similar experiences.”

Sydney based fans will have the opportunity to see merci, mercy performing her debut live shows this week and next, as she kicks off a sold-out run at the Oxford Art Factory tonight. All four shows on the tour have sold-out, but fans who missed out or from other parts of Australia (or indeed the world) will be able to join the fun of the final gig on Friday October 23 via a live-stream. This unique moment will bring together those in the venue and those from home for a very special celebratory performanceFans can gain access to the live-stream, by hitting the link HERE and following the prompts to either follow merci, mercy on Spotify, pre-add the EP on Apple Music or sign up to her mailing list.

Selected as Spotify’s Australian RADAR artist for 2020, merci, mercy’s previously released songs have woven their way into the hearts and minds of fans across the globe, finding a home not just on local radio, but also on stations in Austria,  France, Germany, Switzerland and more. Her refreshingly honest and vibrant songs including ‘Fucked Myself Up’ and ‘Fall Apart’ have seen support across over 30 New Music Friday’s globally including the US, UK, India and Japan, and key Apple Music playlists such as Today’s Hits. Her quickly growing streaming numbers currently sit at 5 million, confirming her as a young star rapidly on the rise.

I OH YOU are really stoked to share that DMA’S have been nominated for an incredible 5 x ARIA  Award Nominations in recognition of their critically acclaimed third studio album THE GLOW. The nominations are for Album Of The Year, Best Rock Album, Best Group, Best Independent Release and Best Australian Live Act.

THE GLOW, released globally on July 10 was recorded and mixed by multi-Grammy Award winning producer Stuart Price (The Killers, New Order, Madonna), and debuted at #2 on the ARIA Album Chart, #4 in the UK and took out the #1 spot in Scotland. This incredible result is a testament to the band’s unwavering vision to write an album that took their sound to a new level and to new ears, across the world.

In addition to this well-deserved acknowledgement, DMA’S will be performing at the 2020 AFL Grand Final on Saturday 24th October, set to take place for the first time at the Gabba in Queensland. The road to the AFL Grand Final performance sees the band (who live in Sydney) currently staying in Canberra in the lead up so they can safely cross the QLD border, before they take the stage ahead of the bounce. Not deterred in the slightest, DMA’S have thrown themselves into the experience, spending the time in their Canberra accommodation working on new demos for their next release.

Following the big game at the Gabba, DMA’S are also pleased to confirm their ‘Unplugged & Intimate’ tour will hit Brisbane – including two newly announced shows to meet fans’ demand!  DMA’S will take to the stage at Brisbane venue The Tivoli on Monday 26 October (rescheduled from previously announced date of Saturday 29 August) and Tuesday 27 October (originally Sunday 30 August), performing two shows per night (6.45pm and 9pm). All existing tickets remain valid to the corresponding new dates. In addition to this, two brand new shows have also been added on Sunday 25 October, with show times of: 3.00pm and 5.30pm.

Tickets for all six Brisbane shows will  go on sale this Thursday 15 October @ 1pm AEDT (12noon local) from frontiertouring.com/DMAS. Frontier and Secret Sounds Members can access Pre-sales from Wednesday 14 October.

LISTEN: DMA’S – CRIMINALS (ACOUSTIC)
With three top #10 ARIA albums, now 9 x ARIA-nominations, and multiple ARIA Platinum and ARIA Gold singles already under their belt, DMA’S have well and truly established themselves as a household name both here and in the UK. DMA’S are a true story of triumph, a band that continue to push the boundaries of their creative output, and the success of THE GLOW to date solidify DMA’S as a band that are showing no sign of slowing down.

Mushroom labels are extremely excited to reveal 17 nominations for this year’s ARIA Awards. The nominations, spread across six artists, build on what has been a hugely successful year for the label group, who’ve delivered three #1 ARIA Albums for Australian artists to date, and spent three weeks at #1 with Music From The Home Front. DMA’S have been nominated for five awards, Violent Soho for four awards, The Teskey Brothers and Archie Roach for three awards, and The Rubens and Gordi with one nomination each. DMA’S (I OH YOU/MUSHROOM) Bringing home a massive 5 ARIA nominations for Album Of The Year, Best Group, Best Rock Album, Best Independent Release, and Best Australian Live Act is DMA’S with their critically acclaimed third studio album, THE GLOW. THE GLOW was recorded and mixed by multi-Grammy Award winning producer Stuart Price (The Killers, New Order, Madonna) at the historic Westlake Recording Studios in Hollywood and has been a step up for the band in every sense. The album debuted at #2 in Australia, #4 in the UK and took out the #1 spot in Scotland. With three top-10 ARIA albums, nine ARIA-nominations, and multiple ARIA Platinum and ARIA Gold singles now under their belt, these incredible achievements are a testament to the band’s unwavering vision to write albums that take their sound to a new level and new ears across the world. Earlier this year DMA’S sold out a headline show at O2 Academy Brixton (London) and in support of THE GLOW in July, sold out 18 COVID-19-safe Sydney shows. Later this month, the band will perform the pre-game entertainment for the 2020 AFL Grand Final, live from The Gabba on Saturday 24th October, before continuing their ‘Intimate & Unplugged’ tour in Brisbane.   Violent Soho (I OH YOU/MUSHROOM) Violent Soho’s fifth studio album, Everything Is A-OK, which debuted at #1 on the ARIA album chart, has earned the band four ARIA nominations, including Best Rock Album, Best Video (presented by YouTube Music), Engineer of the Year (Greg Wales), and Best Cover Art (Luke Henerey). Everything Is A-OK marks the second time the band have snagged the top spot on the ARIA chart, after their previous release WACO (which scored two ARIA Awards for Best Group and Best Rock Album) topped the national chart in 2016 and became certified Gold. Everything Is A-OK was recorded by Australian producer Greg Wales (You Am I, Sandpit, Youth Group) and is a headlong cannonball-ride into the darkness of suburban abandonment and decay. It is an honest record that reflects a band who have found peace with who they are. It is a cathartic vent of our shared frustrations, which could not have come at a better time. The Teskey Brothers (IVY LEAGUE/MUSHROOM) Debuting at #1 on the ARIA charts, Live At The Forum is the latest release from The Teskey Brothers and has scored the band three ARIA nominations for Best Group, Best Australian Live Act, and Best Blues & Roots Album. In the tradition of some of history’s greatest live records (James Brown, Woodstock, Donny Hathaway, The Who), the band undertook the arduous task of recording to analogue tape during their sold-out four-night stand at the beloved Melbourne venue last November. Accompanying the live album has been the band’s ‘Stay Home Slow’ virtual tour - where in lieu of live shows, the band released a series of live videos from The Forum and a behind-the-scenes documentary of the live album recording experience. These new nominations follow a huge 2019, where the band picked up seven nominations for their critically acclaimed sophomore album Run Home Slow, taking home the awards for Best Group, Best Blues & Roots Album and Engineer of the Year on the night.  Run Home Slow also saw the band nominated for a Recording Academy Grammy Award for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical. Archie Roach (BLOODLINES/MUSHROOM) Music legend, Stolen Generations survivor and 2020 Victorian Australian Of The Year, Archie Roach AM, celebrates the 30 year anniversary of his debut album Charcoal Lane with the announcement of The Songs Of Charcoal Lane, alongside three ARIA Nominations for Best Male Artist, Best Independent Release, and Best Adult Contemporary Album, for Tell Me Why, the companion album to the memoir of the same name. About to embark on his final national tour for the much lauded Tell Me Why memoir and companion album, Archie had to cancel his plans due to COVID-19. Not one to sit idle, this paved the way for The Songs of Charcoal Lane to be recorded at his kitchen table in southwest Victoria during the lockdown. In July, in a year like no other, Archie brought trusted musicians Stephen Magnusson and Sam Anning, along with recording engineer Hadyn Buxton, to his home on Gunditjmara lands on his mother’s country, to re-record the timeless classic songs of Charcoal Lane. When Charcoal Lane was released in 1990, its impact was immediate. Critics were quick to realise Archie’s soulful vocals and heartfelt lyrics heralded the emergence of a major new artist. Charcoal Lane is certified Gold, and won two ARIA Awards. The Songs Of Charcoal Lane is yet another unique testament to the ten songs on Archie’s debut, nine of which were penned by Archie himself, with the tenth (‘Down City Streets’) written by Archie’s late partner and musical collaborator, Ruby Hunter.  The Rubens (IVY LEAGUE/MUSHROOM) The Rubens are nominated for ARIA’s prestigious Song of The Year Award for their recent smash single ‘Live In Life’. ‘Live In Life’ is undeniably one of the biggest domestic releases of the last 12 months and is now certified Double Platinum - the band’s third single to receive this accreditation. The song has amassed 30+ million streams across various platforms, has spent close to two months in the top three of Spotify’s Hot Hits Australia playlist, including three weeks at #1, and has become a staple of the playlist over the last nine months. ‘Live In Life’ has also spent nine months and counting on Apple Music’s Today's Hits and has been Shazamed more than 100,000 times in Australia alone. Never ones to slow down, the band have just followed up ‘Live In Life’ with summer anthem ‘Time Of My Life’. Plus, stay tuned for more incredibly exciting news from The Rubens soon. Gordi (LIBERATION/MUSHROOM) Nominated for Best Adult Contemporary Album, Our Two Skins was recorded in Gordi’s hometown of Canowindra, with the help of friends Chris Messina (Bon Iver, Bruce Hornsby, Big Red Machine) and Zach Hanson (Bon Iver, Hand Habits, Waxahatchee, Tallest Man). The remote and tiny town, where Gordi’s family has lived for over a century, proved the perfect location to capture her isolated internal state. The resultant ten track offering is a beautiful ode to this tumultuous period of Gordi’s life, as she renegotiated who she is and how she fits into the world, it is also the perfect soundscape to the realities of the present day. 2020 has seen Gordi receive a top 20 ARIA debut for Our Two Skins,  a triple j Feature Album, and an international virtual album launch from the Sydney Opera House. Recently, after having to put her international touring plans on hold, Gordi has returned to her life behind the stethoscope as a doctor working in COVID-19 clinics.  A big congratulations to our 2020 ARIA Award nominees! We look forward to the Awards ceremony on Wednesday 25 November. DMA'S VIOLENT SOHO THE TESKEY BROTHERS ARCHIE ROACH

The raw rapping on this track is the birth of what to  expect from Okkaido moving forward.

The song goes full circle – It Makes Me ill is a low key flex on rapping and story telling. This track  is bound to be on repeat as it’s overall so infectious.

The song speaks for itself – Out Saturday 17 October 2020.

ALBERT SALT SHARES DIY VIDEO CLIP FOR QUARTER-LIFE ANTHEM “25”

by the partae October 13, 2020
written by the partae

Melbourne songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and film composer Albert Salt has unveiled a DIY video clip for his stunning new  single “25“. It’s the latest from his forthcoming EP and follows the jilted and hypnotic “Even Out“.

Salt flawlessly melds danceable bedroom pop with unrivalled musical intellect on “25”. It’s charming and heart-warming pop accessibility at its finest, resulting in something utterly unique yet suitably recognisable. Undoubtedly, it’s a stage-of-life wrangling  – regaling the personal and passionate to form a retrospective quarter-life anthem.

Keeping in line with his isolation cover videos, Salt created a video entirely himself from his home studio. The result is nothing  short of polished-solitary beauty. Tapping into the passion delivered throughout “25”, he celebrates the idea of dancing alone in  your room, offering a powerful reminder that sometimes, we need to let it all out.

Salt’s forthcoming release marks a new beginning in a near decade-long career and is his first major body of work since the 2015  record Wilson Street. It’s also only the second venture without long-time collaborator and lyricist Patrick Dower, opting to write  and produce himself, with mixing from Nick Bond (Flamingo Jones, Juno Disco). ‘I feel with this release; it’s a definitive new phase  for myself as an artist’ he says. Expect further details about Salt’s forthcoming EP in the coming weeks.

Gordi Reveals ‘Extraordinary Life’ EP Featuring Remixes From Alex Somers & Georgia Maq + Video Clip For Georgia Maq Remix + Adds New Tour Dates

by the partae October 12, 2020
written by the partae
Today Gordi is proud to share the Extraordinary Life EP featuring compelling remixes from Alex Somers (Sigur Ros, Black Mirror) and Camp Cope’s Georgia Maq. The EP also includes a live version recorded at the Sydney Opera House in July this year, and a lo-fi bedroom demo from 2018. Extraordinary Life is the most streamed song from the 27 year old Canowindra artist-producer’s second album Our Two Skins, notching over 1 million plays on Spotify last week.

Whilst locked down in Melbourne during a break in her hospital rotations as a junior doctor, Gordi (Sophie Payten) invited her friend Georgia Maq for a game of one-on-one basketball. The game was documented for the official video for the Camp Cope frontwoman’s synth-pop reimagining of the acoustic ballad. The video was filmed and edited by Liam Pethick, shot against the clock in the maximum one hour daily exercise allowance in Melbourne throughout the Stage 4 lockdown.

Georgia Maq explains her thinking behind the rework:

“When I was approached to rework Extraordinary Life, initially I didn’t really know how to approach it, I didn’t want to do anything with an acoustic guitar and I wanted to challenge myself.. so I taught myself how to use Ableton (a digital audio workstation). Dr Gordi is a beautiful person, Extraordinary Life is a beautiful song and it is my first time recording and producing something entirely myself, I hope you like it.”

Friend and collaborator, Alex Somers has also weaved his trade mark magic on the song.  Somers and Payten first collaborated in 2015 on her single ‘Wanting’ before Alex invited Gordi to his Reykjavik studio to record a handful of tracks for her debut album Reservoir. They recently collaborated on a live improvised installation performance at Berlin’s PEOPLE festival in 2018, run by Justin Vernon and Aaron Dessner. ‘Extraordinary Life’ was originally written while touring with fellow Iceland-based artist, Asgeir, Sophie explains,

“In 2017 I was touring through Europe with Asgeir and we stopped for a few hours sleep in this desperate little hostel in Ghent. We’d just played a show somewhere and were on route to somewhere else. It was 2am and our lobby call was 5am but I was buzzing from the show so I had a shower. I started humming this ascending melody because the reverb in the shower sounded nice. I imagined building this song on top of that repeating melody”

To coincide with Gordi’s new Extraordinary Life EP, additional shows have now been added to the Our Two Skins tour throughout NSW. A number of interstate shows have also been rescheduled to February given the uncertain restrictions in crossing some borders (Queensland election, anyone?). The new dates are below.

However, NSW and non-NSW fans can catch Gordi and a handful of her health-worker musical peers performing for a special edition of online streaming festival Isol-Aid.  Gordi will host a co-curated instalment of the popular Instagram Live musical platform featuring short performances and in-conversation segments from the multi-skilled Radio Birdman frontman, doctor and fighter pilot Deniz Tek, qualified nurse Georgia Maq, surgeon Alex Cameron from Adelaide outfit Bad\Dreems, Hip Hop Doe and highly regarded musicologist Dr Emma O’Brien AO. For more details and full lineup head to Isol-Aid’s Instagram.

Our Two Skins was produced alongside Bon Iver’s production team, Chris Messina and Zach Hanson, who flew from Wisconsin to Sophie’s farm in regional Australia to set up a temporary studio. The album is an exploration of identity, community and isolation, as Payten came to terms with her new identity against the backdrop of Australia’s marriage equality vote.

Gordi recently returned to working in hospitals in Victoria to assist with the second wave outbreak in that state.

Archie Roach Re-Imagines ‘Charcoal Lane’ And ‘Took The Children Away’, 30 Years On

by the partae October 12, 2020
written by the partae
  • On 13 November, Archie Roach will release The Songs Of Charcoal Lane, new recordings of the 10 songs from his award-winning album Charcoal Lane, recorded at his home during lockdown
  • Today, Archie Roach shares the reimagined version of his renowned single ‘Took The Children Away’ – watch the video here
  • Video features illustrations from Archie’s late partner and musical collaborator Ruby Hunter
  • This year is the 30 year anniversary of Charcoal Lane
Music legend, Stolen Generations survivor and 2020 Victorian Australian Of The Year, Archie Roach AM, celebrates the 30 year anniversary of his debut album Charcoal Lane with the announcement of The Songs Of Charcoal Lane, recorded at his kitchen table in southwest Victoria, during the Covid-19 lockdown. Ahead of the November 13 release of The Songs Of Charcoal Lane, today Archie re-launches his renowned and heart-wrenching single ‘Took The Children Away’.

In July, in a year like no other, Archie brought trusted musicians Stephen Magnusson and Sam Anning, along with recording engineer Hadyn Buxton, to his home on Gunditjmara lands on his mother’s country, to re-record the timeless classic songs of Charcoal Lane.

Archie says, “Recording at home, with just the four of us, has been a great experience. There’s an intimacy, a closeness; we have gathered the songs in. I have been so much more relaxed sitting here at my kitchen table with a cup of tea, looking out at my yard, recording the songs, maybe doing 2 to 3 takes. When we listen back to the recordings you can sense that there’s a different feel, a more relaxed approach to the songs, it’s more earthy.

Over the past 30 years I have written most of my songs at the kitchen table, when my children were little and running around. Ruby and the children were the first to hear them. As I have matured so have the songs, it’s like they have grown with me. I think I understand them a lot better now than I did 30 years ago… it’s probably how they should have been sung.”

When Charcoal Lane was released in 1990, its impact was immediate. Critics were quick to realise Archie’s soulful vocals and heartfelt lyrics heralded the emergence of a major new artist. Charcoal Lane is certified gold, and won two ARIA Awards.

Charcoal Lane’s centrepiece, ‘Took The Children Away’, shone a stark light on the impact of the forcible removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families, and brought it to the attention of the global community. The song won an Australian Human Rights Achievement Award (the first time the award was ever awarded to a songwriter).

The Songs Of Charcoal Lane is yet another unique testament to the ten songs on Archie’s debut, nine of which were penned by Archie himself, with the tenth (‘Down City Streets’) written by Archie’s late partner and musical collaborator, Ruby Hunter. The album will be released to coincide with NAIDOC Week celebrations in November.

Since the 1990 release of Charcoal Lane, a lot has happened in Archie’s world, which readers of his 2019 award-winning memoir Tell Me Why saw in its heart-wrenching and heart-warming moments. And in those 30 years, Archie’s voice has gone through changes as well! His voice is front and centre in these new recordings, not unlike the way that Johnny Cash approached his American recordings.

On 7 October, a picture-book edition of Took The Children Away was released through Simon & Schuster, with evocative illustrations by Ruby Hunter. In March 2021, a young adult edition of Tell Me Why will be published.

This week, Archie Roach launched The Archie Roach Stolen Generation Educational Resources. Freely available on ABC Education, and developed by First Nations Curriculum writers from Culture Is Life, in collaboration with the Archie Roach Foundation, The Archie Roach Stolen Generations Resources includes filmed conversations with Archie and Elders around the themes of cultural identity, Stolen Generations, talking our truths, and healing through story and the arts, with comprehensive educational support materials.

MELBOURNE MUSIC WEEK EXTENDED: THREE-MONTH PROGRAM TO SUPPORT RECOVERY Taking place over summer from 9 Dec – 28 Feb

by the partae October 12, 2020
written by the partae
Melbourne Music Week will be held over three months this summer to support the local music industry as it recovers from the impacts of COVID-19.

The City of Melbourne will deliver a special edition of the annual event called Melbourne Music Week Extended in celebration of Melbourne’s music community.

The program of free and ticketed events will span three months from Wednesday 9 December 2020 to Sunday 28 February 2021.

The event was originally scheduled to take place in November but has been rescheduled to allow for a larger, longer and dispersed program across summer. The extended event will offer greater flexibility for local artists, venues and businesses to get involved.

With supporting the recovery of the local live music industry at the core of Melbourne Music Week Extended, its artist line up will remain 100 percent local and there will be support opportunities for venues and independent events to participate.
Live music alone contributes $1.7 billion a year to Victoria’s economy and creates 42,000 jobs. Live Performance Australia conservatively estimates more than 200,000 people have lost income and work as a result of COVID-19.

The program will move through a phased COVID-safe approach and will follow any restrictions in place for the duration of the event, starting with mostly outdoor and intimate gigs and events and leading into some indoor and greater capacity activity when it is safe to do so.

The Melbourne Music Week Extended program will launch on Wednesday 25 November 2020. Stay tuned for further news and announcements on Melbourne Music Week Extended by signing up to the newsletter via the Melbourne Music Week website.

Quotes attributable to City of Melbourne CEO Justin Hanney:
“Melbourne’s live music scene is renowned internationally and employs thousands of people. We really want Melburnians to get out and support our venues this summer because it’s been an incredibly tough year.
I think Melburnians will relish the opportunity to again see live music again. Summer is a crucial time of the year for our live music venues and we want to maximise entertainment across the city.”

MOURN Share new single ‘Stay There’ Forthcoming album Self Worth out 30 October

by the partae October 12, 2020
written by the partae
Praise for singles ‘Call You Back’, ‘This Feeling Is Disgusting’ & ‘Men’

“Mourn is taking a different approach to these times” – Billboard

“Song of the Day” – KEXP

“Serrated, infectiously melodic” – Stereogum

“Early-aughts alt at its finest” – Jezebel

“The track is a literal reaction to the world — as it is in this present moment and what it may have in store for us in the coming months.” – Consequence of Sound

“Crackles with energy and passion as it confronts existential anxiety through joyful rocking out” – PopMatters

“MOURN are at their most provocative in “Men” – CLOUT

Barcelona trio, MOURN, share their fourth single ‘Stay There’ off their forthcoming album, Self Worth, out October 30 via Captured Tracks / Remote Control Records. On Self Worth, MOURN is leaving behind abusive ties and externalizing the interior noise, ‘Stay There’ sticks to that empowered spirit. Its fury does not overshadow the vocal arrangements as Jazz sings “No matter what I said/ I’m the form you don’t respect.”

MOURN on ‘Stay There’ – “Stay There” is a song about ending an abusive relationship and the feeling of freedom afterwards. Of course there’s always sequels, but we’re keeping the distance, telling them to stay there where they are and don’t come bother us anymore. And also this song is about healing from that, even though it doesn’t explicitly say that in the lyrics, this song served us to do so, to get all the negative and bitter feelings out of us.

‘Stay There’ follows the release of the albums first singles “Call You Back” that Stereogum called “serrated and infectiously melodic” and KEXP hailed as their “Song of the Day,” “This Feeling Is Disgusting” that REMEZCLA acutely points out “we’re in dire need for music to let all our feelings out, and what better soundtrack for it than a righteous guitar rave-up like this track,” and “Men” that showcases MOURN “at their most provocative” (CLOUT).

Adversity does not incite the best feelings: frustration, anger, fear, anxiety – nothing unusual for today’s world. The members of MOURN know quite a bit about these setbacks, but a latent belief persists within: the negative will eventually become positive. It’s the belief of facing and overcoming a problem. To come out reinforced: the wonder of resilience. It’s the belief of what they are worth, whatever people say. It’s the name they chose for their new album: Self Worth. MOURN is an enclave of post-teens dealing with the dilemmas of adult life. “This album gave us what we needed: self-worth, the desire to go forward, to love ourselves, with everything, with the good and bad. This album empowers us.”

A lot’s changed for the Catalan three-piece since the release of Sorpresa Familia, their boisterous 2018 record, that was praised by Pitchfork complementing their “newfound maturity of songcraft without sacrificing youthful energy” and NPR saying “equal parts joy and rage.” They’ve undergone a lineup change (drummer Antonio Postius left the band in 2019) and done a fair amount of growing up. As a result, they don’t feel as angry as they did on Sorpresa – their new music is brighter, borne of a more peaceful, collaborative creative process. The band isn’t the same as when they formed. The world isn’t either. MOURN grew up, and that’s evident in the songs that make up Self Worth. Their melodies – energetic and captivating – venture into less level grounds, and their lyrics show their newfound readiness to tackle issues of a different weight and size.

Rising star of Heldeep Records, Macon, teams up with UK-charting producer SOLON and vocalist chacel for a delicious marriage of new and old skool flavours on hot new belter ‘Tell Me’.   chacel’s sultry vocal sets the tone amidst bubbling, muted synth arpeggios in the intro before the track blasts into life with a stuttered bassline groove, techy percussion and atmospheric synth brass blasts by Macon & SOLON. INDII G. SIGNS TO EPITAPH RECORDS

by the partae October 12, 2020
written by the partae

Multi-talented, lo-fi hip hop rapper, Indii G has signed with Epitaph Records. With more than a million streams on Spotify, the Louisiana native is building momentum with his velvety echoed layers, infectious beats and gentle, harmonic vocals.

“It’s still crazy to me that a label with such a reputation is a fan of my vision,” says Indii G. “I’m just a kid from a small town and it’s truly an honour working with these guys. The whole experience so far has been amazing”

His newest single “Secrets,” a non-traditional love song about the early stages of getting to know someone takes influence from Juice WRLD, Frank Ocean, and Blackbear.

A modest rapper on the rise, citing collabs with Powfu and Sadboyprolific  Indii G. started making music as a diary, putting his feelings into fruit for hip-hop heads and DIY chillwave enthusiasts alike. Since his start in 2016, his diary has blossomed into over a dozen singles and an EP with no end in sight.

THE UNKNOWNS ANNOUNCE DEBUT ALBUM + NEW VIDEO “WASTE MY TIME” NOTHING WILL EVER STOP IS DUE NOVEMBER 27 VIA BARGAIN BIN RECORDS

Sunshine Coast rock trio The Unknowns have delivered a lo-fi rifftastic jam today called “Waste My Time”, lifted from their debut album, Nothing Will Ever Stop, set for release on November 27 via Bargain Bin Records.

Driven by their passion for good old-fashioned rock’n’roll, “Waste My Time” is an instant classic steeped in delectably raw garage rock with a punk twist. The video sees the trio take their new single – instruments and all – on an excursion through the streets of Brisbane as they rail against the performative nonsense of social media down the shops, on the train and even in the bottleo cool room.

Nathan Montgomery (bass) explains: “The new single ‘Waste My time’ is about how you shouldn’t waste your time trying to impress people with how good you look, especially on social media. How everybody’s trying to be someone but that means nothing if you’re not being yourself.”

The Unknowns debut album is chock full of authentic rock’n’roll tempered with a fresh punk attitude set to reinvigorate the scene they live in. Driven by their passion for timeless music expressing honest emotions, the band delivers an unassuming simplicity to sharing their truth through bursts of garage rock/power pop. On the stage, the trio perform with the kind of freedom and vigour that gets feet moving and has seen them tour across Australia with Ed Kuepper (The Saints), Frenzal Rhomb, Clowns, Pist Idiots, The Growlers and fellow Sunshine Coast trio The Chats.

Speaking of The Chats, both bands go way back, growing up together on the same patch of land in Australia. This long-standing mateship has given The Unknowns the opportunity to release their debut via The Chats’ growing label Bargain Bin Records.

“We are so stoked to be signing with our mates Bargain Bin Records, they have always supported us and it’s awesome we can put our music out through their label, as well as heaps of other great bands,” said Montgomery. “We can’t wait to release our well overdue debut LP as we believe as a band we have finally found our strongest sound.”

Online tutorials have grown ten-fold in popularity and prevalence since covid took hold. Ardent fans, however, will no doubt note that most of these simply aren’t worth their salt. One that most definitely is however, is Starsky’s videos for Clubbing TV. In a nutshell, it shows viewers how they can replicate the sounds of some of the world’s foremost artists, all the while showcasing how to use some of the world’s coolest new machines. We caught up with Starsky recently, as he gave us an insight into his life in music and the production of the shows... Hi, can you please introduce yourself and describe your occupation? I’m Starsky and I’m a musician and producer and currently have a Youtube channel and weekly show on Clubbing TV demoing music tech and production techniques That sounds like a great role. Is this something you always dreamed of doing? Or how did it come about? I’ve always been into music since I can remember.  Once I started writing and producing tracks when I was in my teens I’ve had an interest into music technology, not because of the technology itself, but because it’s a way to help you as a musician to bring your ideas to life.  I remember buying my first 4 track tape recorder and synth, purely as a way to record my ideas… but the more you understand the technology, the more creative you can be.  And can you tell us about your alias -- it it a Starsky and Hutch thing?  Starsky and Hutch definitely played a part - but it was a nickname that stuck. I’ve had quite a few cats called Starsky which was a bit of a joke.. I thought the ‘S’ sound was attractive to them … SSStarsssky – and there I am always thinking about the sound!..  And I’m allergic to cats!! Do you see yourself as having to educate a younger audience? Or what do you see as the main idea behind the videos? Haha, I can educate old people as well! But it’s not about educating anyone, just helping out.  I had absolutely no idea what I was doing when starting out, and everything I know was self taught.  I started my YouTube channel just to give a helping hand to the music community.  I use YouTube for everything from changing a light bulb in my car to fixing a synth and realised there were things I could do to give back.  The videos got quite a good response, so I did a couple more.. and built up a reputation of making easy to follow, but knowledgeable demos and comparisons that are also a bit of fun.  So you’ve done some really great videos, showing people how to get a Daft Punk or kINK sound for example. What is it about these artists that excite you so much? They are two great examples of something that’s actually quite simple once you know how to do it, but creating the idea in the first place was a stroke of genius.  Taking the Daft Punk example, the Da Funk track is ridiculously simple, and anyone with a computer and some software can recreate it, but it takes real creativity to come up with the idea in the first place. It’s the same with KiNK.   And do you understand their genius even more when you try and replicate what they do? Absolutely. What KiNK does is essentially pretty simple, but the way he does it is so effortless. Try and do it yourself over an few minutes and you’ll see how many hours must have gone into honing those skills into a fluid set.  It’s the same with Daft Punk,  take the same equipment and ideas and try to write something as good.  A classic drum loop, a single note on a bass, nasty lead and a bit of acid on top.  That’s it, but it all comes together to create a classic. Anyone hearing a single note of that synth sound instantly knows the track.  Thousands of people have that synth, there’s an infinite number of sounds you can make on it.. but that one sound is instantly recognisable and unique.  Are you a producer yourself? And who do you look to for inspiration yourself?  I produced, remixed and wrote tracks professionally for years, and made a decent living with stuff in the charts etc, and love all sorts of music.  If you like a wide range of styles and have the tools to create whatever you like it’s difficult to pick a single artist or genre, but if I had to pick one stand out artist I’d say Sasha’s tracks pretty much encompass everything I like all rolled up into a single package.  Great musicianship, really inventive and creative ideas, all produced flawlessly. If he could only get a bit of Echo and the Bunnymen in there it would be perfect! Have you released on any labels then? What’s the best thing about putting music out do you think? I’ve got a stack of 12” records I made for loads of labels including Mute, Distinctive, Multply, Xtravaganza, 3 Beat, and all Around the World.. all dance labels you’ll notice!  The best part is hearing them in the background when you’re out and about, or driving the car, and you’ll hear something familiar and be humming along then suddenly realise why you recognise it. Of course, seeing thousands of people jumping up and down is pretty cool too. So tell us a bit about Clubbing TV and covid 19. Has it affected what you’re doing much? Or does the format remain the same? COVID has meant I’ve actually had more time to spend thinking about the episodes, and having a bit more fun with them.  Adding a few comedy moments is great fun, but you need to take a step back to see where you may be taking things too seriously or where there’s a glaring bit of irony. Having a bit more time on my hands has made this much more of a feature than I’d originally anticipated. Like sampling a famous street rather than using a famous sample of a street in the Daft Punk episode. It took a whole morning to record everything – all for a few seconds of footage, but hopefully it takes the format somewhere most others don’t.    How do people tune in to your videos?  The show is broadcast on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings on Clubbing TV and is then uploaded to our “From the Studio’ playlist on the ClubbingTVOfficial YouTube channel.  My own youtube videos can be found on the StarskyCarr youtube channel. What’s next for you that you’re really excited about?  I’m really excited to see where the Clubbing TV show can lead.  It’s a bit of an unknown to me, and I always like taking a jump into something new to see where it leads.   Keep up with Clubbing TV on Facebook and Instagram and tune in to Starsky show on Clubbing.tv

Global TV & Streaming Experts Clubbing TV announce Production Partnership with Starsky

Online tutorials have grown ten-fold in popularity and prevalence since covid took hold. Ardent fans, however, will no doubt note that most of these simply aren’t worth their salt. We caught up with Starsky recently, as he gave us an insight into his life in music and the production of the shows…

Hi, can you please introduce yourself and describe your occupation?

I’m Starsky and I’m a musician and producer and currently have a Youtube channel and weekly show on Clubbing TV demoing music tech and production techniques

That sounds like a great role.
