Platform 18 announce online festival with Jackmaster, Domenic Cappello and Fraz:ier on Saturday 4th July

https://www.facebook.com/Platform18Glasgow/
On Saturday July 4th, Glasgow’s Platform 18 invite you to join an online stream headlined by Jackmaster b2b Domenic Cappello, Frazi.er, Maria Airam b2b Lunarplatz and founder Ivan Kutz. The stream will be raising funds for the charity Scottish Association for Mental Health, who Platform 18 have worked with from the start, and is a great way to come together and forget whatever woes you may have during these strange times.
The stream runs from 4pm until 9pm and plays out on the same day that this year’s festival was meant happen with world class headliners Richie Hawtin, Floorplan, Fjaak (live), ANNA and more all playing one visually spectacular main stage in a unique urban setting.
Platform 18 offers something new and fresh for Glaswegian house and techno lovers and has done since 2013. It comes from the mind of a promoter who has been putting on events for over 12 years and gives you an intimate connection with DJs: everything is set up so the raver and DJ are in sync, the selectors can join punters in the crowd for hugs and even high fives during set and they have done many times in the past, which always makes this a very special and standout occasion.
While this stream won’t replace the main event, it is a great way to connect with likeminded raves, from the safety of your own home, and hear some cutting edge electronic music by some masters of the form.
Donations can be made to SAMH at any time via the JustGiving page https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/platform18streetfestival

SESSION VICTIM RELEASE ‘NEEDLEDROP REMIXED’ FEATURING LAURENCE GUY & PATRICE SCOTT JACKMATE, DDAY ONE AND PANORAM ALSO PROVIDE REMIXES

by the partae June 15, 2020
written by the partae

Following the release of the ‘Needledrop’ album in March, Session Victim today unveil ‘Needledrop Remixed’, featuring Laurence Guy, Jackmate (aka Soulphiction), Patrice Scott, Dday One and Panoram. First announced in May with Patrice Scott’s remix of ‘Isle of Taste’, the full ‘Needledrop Remixed’ EP is out now via ‘Night Time Stories’

“For the remix EP of our album ‘Needledrop’, we got 5 artists on board who play and work in quite different areas and genres but all have had a substantial impact on us, musically and/or personally over the years.” – Session Victim

Expanding upon the album’s blend of jazz, electronic and downtempo, each of the remixers instill their own production styles to reimagine one of underground music’s most intriguing and genre-crossing acts into a new listening experience. From Laurence Guy’s melodic yet driving remix of ‘Needledrop’, to Jackmate’s transformation of ‘Still High’ into 5-minute, experimental rework, ‘Needledrop Remixed’ continues to reaffirm the original album as Session Victim’s most eclectic LP to date.

With each remixer personally selected by Session Victim, the EP channels a deeper exploration of the album. Patrice Scott 90’s influenced take on ‘Isle Of Taste’ is a longer and more contemporary offering, whilst Dday One’s remix of ‘Jazzbeat 7’ adds a sinuous saxophone solo to fully embrace the experimental spirit of the original. The neo-jazz feel of ‘No Sky, Blue Sound’ is flipped to a slower tempo by Panoram, yet retains the explorative guitar solo heard on the album.

Released in March, ‘Needledrop’ is Session Victim’s anticipated 11-track album. With industry support from the likes of CRACK, Dummy, Mixmag, DJ Mag, Resident Advisor, XLR8R and more, the album was released on ‘Night Time Stories’, the London based sister label to the coveted ‘LateNightTales’. Marking a notable shift towards the downtempo dynamic of artists like Nightmares on Wax, DJ Shadow and Portishead, ‘Needledrop’ provides a suite of both uplifting and easy-listening moments, refined and understated individually, yet cohesively crafted with the honest musicianship and inarguable credentials that we know of the production duo Session Victim.

‘Needledrop’ focuses on a large arsenal of influences across long-forgotten vinyl, 90’s computer games and beyond, rediscovering the intuitive and playful sides of their production personalities, while also demonstrating their cherished music knowledge.

Session Victim’s ‘Needledrop’ album is available to stream and purchase here.

Album Review Quotes:

“They continue to bring a sense of style and musicality that’s uncommon among similar house music acts.” – Resident Advisor

“The musicianship showcased here is the type you’d associate with life-long session players.” – DJ Mag

“Gilles Peterson and OG Roots fans will love how Session Victim have avoided the 4/4 lure’- Mixmag

“Needledrop shows the Duo Session Victim in a wonderfully rested form, but also playing around like never before.” – Groove

Tracklist:

  1. Session Victim – Needledrop (Laurence Guy Remix)
  2. Session Victim – Still High – (Jackmate’s Juke Rework)
  3. Session Victim – Isle of Taste (Patrice Scott Remix)
  4. Session Victim – Jazzbeat 7 (Dday One Remix)
  5. Session Victim – No Sky, Blue Sound (Panoram Rework)

MDLBEAST Freqways launches 12-hour digital music festival featuring Steve Aoki, Afrojack, Maceo Plex and more

by the partae June 15, 2020
written by the partae
The 12-hour digital music festival from Freqways will feature Steve Aoki, Afrojack, Maceo Plex and more from unique locations around the globe.
Game-changing Middle Eastern lifestyle and entertainment brand MDLBEAST are to launch MDLBEAST Freqways – an immersive musical adventure and virtual travel experience that takes you around the world via a 12-hour, multi-stage online music festival that starts at 7pm (GMT+3) on June 20th and ends at 7am on World Music Day. Featuring international artists such as Steve Aoki, Afrojack, Maceo Plex, Claptone, Danny Tenaglia, Deep Dish, Sasha, Butch, Art Department, Gui Boratto, Benny Benassi and regional stars such as Baloo, Cosmicat, Jade x Tala and Antabi Brothers. The festival offers a platform where art, music and culture combine and bring people together through the common language of music.

MDLBEAST is a global creative platform setting the tone for music, art and culture in the Middle East. Their flagship annual event, Soundstorm, was the region’s largest festival to date, with the world’s largest ever festival stage, and had an attendance of 400,000 people over three days. In a notable evolution from previous years, the event brought quality underground music out of the local shadows and into the global spotlight, forever changing the scene and inspiring the next generation, bridging gaps between cultures and offering opportunities for collaboration and representation of regional and international talents under one umbrella.

Expanding these core values of spreading joy through music, arts and culture to the world, Freqways will be a borderless online festival and virtual travel experience where movement is unlimited despite us all being in lockdown. It will bring people together from diverse backgrounds and unite through the common language of music, so once virtual travellers get their boarding pass, they will head to any one of the three carefully conceived boarding gates (stages) and prepare for take off, all from the comfort of their own home.

What’s more, MDLBEAST Freqways will integrate with existing virtual museums and galleries to emulate the cultural experiences people seek when they travel. As such, this is an opportunity to explore rich Saudi culture, art and heritage, experience new sights and sounds and discover things in a reimagined way via your desktop. Adding to the immersive and escapist theme of air travel, MDLBEAST-branded merch is available before, during and after the event in a Duty Free-style area that perfectly compliments the flight experience.

Ahmad Alammary, Chief Creative Officer says “The music industry in the region is raw and the merging of neo-culture and technology creates a new buzz, inspiring young musicians to create fresh, unexpected music. MLDBEAST is here to celebrate that… Music and art are universal. A language that can bring people together, inspiring new thriving, creative communities.”

Freqways is an opportunity to showcase both local Saudi talent and iconic locations across the Kingdom. A roster of Saudi DJs, will be performing their sets in beautiful and diverse landscapes – many of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites – in places like Diriyah, Abha, Al Baha, Al Balad in Jeddah and more. Meanwhile, international DJs play from Berlin, Washington, Miami, Las Vegas, Amsterdam, New York, Dallas and many other cities around the world.

This creative exchange, regional showcase and global coming together of like minded art, music and culture lovers is to be a historic moment for dance music in the Middle East and beyond.

Bringing together more than 60 of the world’s most prominent artists in dance music with spectacular special effects and astonishing 3D-technology, Tomorrowland now announces its stellar line-up for the two-day festival weekend, including unique performances by the likes of Adam Beyer, Amelie Lens, Armin van Buuren, Charlotte de Witte, David Guetta, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Kölsch, Lost Frequencies, Martin Garrix, Paul Kalkbrenner, Steve Aoki, Tale of Us, Tiësto, Timmy Trumpet and many more. On top of releasing its full line-up, Tomorrowland is giving a first exclusive sneak preview into the dazzling new Tomorrowland location it has been crafting over the past few months. Tomorrowland Around the World will offer a packed schedule and is using the world’s best technology in 3D design, video production, gaming and special effects to bring together 8 different stages, including the iconic Mainstage that gives a first introduction into the magical world of ‘The Reflection of Love – Chapter 1’, plenty of signature Tomorrowland stages such as Atmosphere, Core and Freedom Stage, joined by 3 new stages, which have been specially created and designed by the creative team and 3D artists behind Tomorrowland. In an exclusive sneak preview, Tomorrowland is giving a very first look into the magical and newly created Tomorrowland location it has been building over the past few months, giving people across the globe a first taste of the dazzling world they will be able to navigate through during Tomorrowland Around the World, the digital festival.

Each stage will premiere brand new music and video content from the world’s best artists and a large portion of the fireworks and laser shows characteristic of Tomorrowland. The Mainstage – embodying the theme of 2020 ‘The Reflection of Love – Chapter 1’ – will be graced by the biggest industry heavyweights as Afrojack, Alan Walker, Armin van Buuren, David Guetta, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Don Diablo, Kölsch, Lost Frequencies, Martin Garrix, NERVO, Oliver Heldens Paul Kalkbrenner, Steve Aoki, Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano, Tiësto, Timmy Trumpet and Vintage Culture.

The wonderful Atmosphere stage will be headlined by the likes of techno legends Amelie Lens, Dixon, Joyhauser, Reinier Zonneveld, Stephan Bodzin and Tale of Us. Several other house & techno music tastemakers including Adriatique, ANNA, Adam Beyer, Cellini, Charlotte de Witte, Joris Voorn and Patrice Baumel will deliver the most mesmerizing and atmospheric sounds at the mythical Core stage – a crowd favourite and definitely one of the most unique stages at Tomorrowland.

Tomorrowland’s iconic Freedom Stage will see Claptone, Jack Back and Solardo return, with hardstyle acts like Coone, Da Tweekaz and Wildstylez on the Q-Dance stage. Dimitri Vegas: “We’ve deliberately been holding out on doing livestreams as we wanted this to be really special. We had the opportunity to see the stage designs of the digital festival and it will be nothing like the world has ever seen. It’s truly an immersive and unique experience and surpasses any expectations someone can have when they hear the term ‘virtual festival’. People are just not ready for what they are about to see. We can’t wait!”

Armin van Buuren: “Tomorrowland Around the World is a great opportunity for me to connect with my fans during these lockdown times and I hope that this will help everyone to hold on for a bit longer until we can party together on actual festival grounds again! Very delighted to be part of this ground-breaking event.”

Steve Aoki: “Tomorrowland is always a special festival for me so I’m very honoured to be a part of Tomorrowland’s digital festival that will be uniting so many people from around the world in a way that hasn’t been done before. The connection between amazing music, breath-taking 3D design and the latest filming techniques from Hollywood get me extremely excited!”

Paul Kalkbrenner: “I’m very honoured to be part of this exciting new project and I’m thrilled to see the outcome, once it airs. Tomorrowland and its crew have always played an integral role throughout the last years and it has become more of a friendship than a pure work relation. Thanks for having me again on the Mainstage.”

Amelie Lens: “I am very excited to be playing at the biggest digital festival ever. I’ve heard that hundreds of people are currently working day and night to create a never before seen experience, so I honestly cannot wait for the last weekend of July.”

Festival visitors will be able to navigate easily through a magical and newly created Tomorrowland location with a PC, laptop, smartphone or tablet – you don’t need special VR goggles – and explore the entire festival site in an interactive way together with friends. Besides the performances there will be all kinds of interactive experiences to choose from, including inspirational webinars, games and workshops related to lifestyle, food, fashion and the Tomorrowland Foundation. Together with the performances, Tomorrowland Around the World will be a full day/weekend experience between 15h00–01h00 CEST. There will be a ‘time-zone-friendly’ option for visitors from Asia and North or South America.
The People of Tomorrow are invited to experience this unique event together with friends: dressing up with your best festival outfit, putting up tents in your back garden to create your own DreamVille, setting up a big screen, inviting your beloved ones for a nice barbecue with music and an amazing festival experience, decorating your balcony or throwing a party in your living room – this weekend is all about uniting through the power of music in a responsible and safe way.

Where are you currently?   Molly: We are currently living in the Northern Rivers NSW with the whole family and it’s safe to say this household is crazy. We have completely taken over our house during quarantine, there’s music going on 24/7, someone's always cooking in the kitchen (just hopefully not Sarah because anyone who's seen our Chef Nation cook off knows that’s just not a good idea!) and music gear has packed out our lounge room because that’s where the film our Virtual Concerts (haha sorry Mum & Dad). Anyone feel like house swapping?   What's been happening since we last spoke to you?  I see Money is still climbing the radio charts and you performed a virtual show with the Wolfe Brothers?   Sarah: Yes it's been pretty crazy here wrapping up our World Virtual Tour with Live Nation which was so much fun! 'Money' is climbing up the charts as well as our brand new single 'Breathe' and we are just so thrilled and grateful to be putting all of this new music out into the world and to see the positive response. It's been a lot of fun doing livestreams and playing music for folks all around the world from our lounge room and connecting with other artists like the Wolfe Brothers! We actually did a Far North Queensland tour with the Wolfe Brothers at the beginning of the year so it was a lot of fun catching up again and bringing some music to people virtually with them too!   Your new single 'Breathe' is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting for this track?   Sarah: Sonically, this song is really authentic to our roots. When I was writing it I wasn't really thinking too much about the production, sound etc like often I do, it was really just being vulnerable lyrically and making sure the music felt exactly like the way we were feeling in that moment. The song then led the way. I think you'll hear our roots in both Country and influences we've grown up with, bands like Fleetwood Mac, Eagles, Alison Krauss etc. It's another element to us as a band and myself as a songwriter that people haven't heard yet, and one that we're really excited to share.   How did you go about writing Breathe?   Sarah: I wrote it around the time when Australia was experiencing terrible bushfires. I was in Nashville and watching it all go down from the other side of the world was so devastating. It was a message I really wanted to write for myself and something I've found really beautiful about this song is how people are connecting their own stories and experiences with it. It means something different to everyone that hears it and I've found over time it can relate to a lot of different parts of my life at different times too. That's the goal as a songwriter and to see people really resonate with it in that way means so much.   Where and when did you record and who with?   Lachlan: We had a blast recording at the end of last year in Nashville Tennessee's ‘Sound Emporium Studios’, a place where so many absolute legends have recorded and where we had the amazing opportunity to record our debut album in! (Which includes Breathe). We also had the honor to record our last 4 singles and album with Chad Carlson, who is a great friend of ours and an absolute weapon of a Producer/Engineer! He has won GRAMMYS for engineering many Taylor Swift albums, worked with Jewel, Trisha Yearwood, the soundtrack for the ‘Hunger Games’ and lots more!   What programs/instruments did you use?   Lachlan: In our latest single ‘Breathe’ I was using my old 1997 Fender Mustang, which I bought off a fellow musician in the car park of McDonald’s haha, not sure how that happened TBH. There's also some beautiful acoustic guitar.   Where can we listen to the track and see the video?   Molly: You can listen to ‘Breathe’ on all streaming platforms and watch the official music video on our YouTube Channel… We also have an animated lyric video!   Please tell us about the creative process behind your new video:   Molly: We’ve grown up in an area that is surrounded by gorgeous beaches, forests and waterfalls. This is where we go to destress and take our moments to just “breathe”. We along with our director Louis Murphy wanted this music video to be peaceful and easy on the eye… Soft tones and serene visuals (really capturing the beauty of nature). When we saw the first cut, the dolphins, whales and ocean life gave us goosebumps. It's so beautiful visually and fits in perfectly with the message of the song. We filmed at sunrise so it was a very cold and early morning, but so magical and we really wanted that to translate on camera.   Can you tell us about your virtual show in India, we hear it was a huge success.  Please tell us about your exposure to the Indian audience, how it came about and how the reaction has been so far.   Molly: Playing to India on our World Virtual Tour was incredible! Lots of our friends and family have visited India and told us how much they love it. Also one of our favorite bands of all time - The Beatles - wrote a lot of their White Album in India so there's that connection too! Book My Show / Live Nation asked if we'd like to do a concert for their audience in India and Sri Lanka… we obviously said yes!  The way the Indian press picked it up and welcomed us was so warming, we are incredibly thankful. Over 497 000 people watched the concert which is INSANE and still sounds crazy saying it out loud.   Please tell us about your upcoming virtual show dates and what we can expect:   Sarah: Well we haven't got any virtual concerts scheduled at the moment however we have started a weekly live streamed show on our social media, where we'll be chatting with everyone, playing games, QandA's AND of course some acoustic performances. You can check that out on our Instagram @the.buckleys   You have an upcoming album titled ‘Daydream’, how has the progress been so far? Molly: We are so so excited for everyone to hear our debut album. Going into it, it was a little nerve racking as it really is such an honor to be able to record an album, especially these days and something we certainly have not taken for granted. We wanted to pour every bit of ourselves into it and make sure we really capture who 'The Buckleys' are right now, musically, personally and artistically. The process was so fun recording with Chad Carlson and the amazing musicians in Nashville, at such an iconic recording studio. We approached it almost like we were creating an album in the 70s - as a full body of work and 'journey' from track 1 to 12. We are really proud of it and just can't wait for people to be able to hold it, singalong, dance to it, relate to it etc!   What do you like to do away from music?  I hear Lachy likes to surf? What are some of his favourite surf spots?   Lachlan: Well, when we’re not playing or doing anything music related then we generally love to get out into nature, either going for bush walks or heading off to the beach for a surf, it also gives us a lot of inspiration strolling out into the wilderness. I mostly like to longboard around Byron Bay, however I did have a 3 meter shark swim underneath me at the most easterly point of the head land!    Who are you listening to at the moment?  Lachlan: At the moment I’m falling down the rabbit hole of Funk, punk funk and Motown. We all love funk and love listening to bands like Parliament Funkadelic, Sly and the Family Stone, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Al Green, Stevie Wonder, and SO much more! There’s something about the amazing creativity and “ridiculous beauty“ that encapsulates me.    What's planned for the remainder of 2020?   Sarah: We have our debut album coming out VERY soon which we are so excited about and cannot wait for everyone to hear it! Our goal is to keep bringing music to people whether it's in person eventually or virtually. Now is such an important time for people to connect with music and bringing some joy into homes around the world is something we intend to keep doing however we can. And we of course can’t wait to get out on the road and playing shows when that’s possible! www.thebuckleys.net info@thebuckleys.net Facebook | Instagram

Molly: You can listen to ‘Breathe’ on all streaming platforms and watch the official music video on our YouTube Channel… We also have an animated lyric video!

Please tell us about the creative process behind your new video:

Molly: We’ve grown up in an area that is surrounded by gorgeous beaches, forests and waterfalls. It’s so beautiful visually and fits in perfectly with the message of the song.

Also one of our favorite bands of all time – The Beatles – wrote a lot of their White Album in India so there’s that connection too! Book My Show / Live Nation asked if we’d like to do a concert for their audience in India and Sri Lanka… we obviously said yes!  The way the Indian press picked it up and welcomed us was so warming, we are incredibly thankful. Over 497 000 people watched the concert which is INSANE and still sounds crazy saying it out loud.

Please tell us about your upcoming virtual show dates and what we can expect:

Sarah: Well we haven’t got any virtual concerts scheduled at the moment however we have started a weekly live streamed show on our social media, where we’ll be chatting with everyone, playing games, QandA’s AND of course some acoustic performances. You can check that out on our Instagram @the.buckleys

You have an upcoming album titled ‘Daydream’, how has the progress been so far?

Molly: We are so so excited for everyone to hear our debut album. Going into it, it was a little nerve racking as it really is such an honor to be able to record an album, especially these days and something we certainly have not taken for granted. We wanted to pour every bit of ourselves into it and make sure we really capture who ‘The Buckleys’ are right now, musically, personally and artistically. The process was so fun recording with Chad Carlson and the amazing musicians in Nashville, at such an iconic recording studio. We approached it almost like we were creating an album in the 70s – as a full body of work and ‘journey’ from track 1 to 12. We are really proud of it and just can’t wait for people to be able to hold it, singalong, dance to it, relate to it etc!

What’s planned for the remainder of 2020?

Sarah: We have our debut album coming out VERY soon which we are so excited about and cannot wait for everyone to hear it! Our goal is to keep bringing music to people whether it’s in person eventually or virtually. Now is such an important time for people to connect with music and bringing some joy into homes around the world is something we intend to keep doing however we can. And we of course can’t wait to get out on the road and playing shows when that’s possible!

Untitled Group have just announced the launch of ‘The Drive-In’ – Victoria’s first drive-in live concert venue.

This unique event space aims to reignite Victoria’s hurting live arts industry which was brought to a complete halt once COVID-19 restrictions came into effect.

The first month of music programming will be announced tomorrow (Tuesday 16 June) which will include 12 large scale concert events, each of which will create over 200 jobs within the sector.

Curated by the team behind Beyond The Valley, Ability Fest, Grapevine Gathering, Wildlands & more, this pop-up precinct will play host to some of Australia’s best musical talent each weekend with an extended movie & comedy night programme to follow.

Located within the lush bowling lanes at Flemington Racecourse, ‘The-Drive-In’ will hold true to a traditional concert experience with the same calibre of production that you’d expect from any major music event.

The raised festival stage will feature large viewing screens with parking grids designed for optimal site lines and the entire site being accessible for people of all levels of ability. Complimentary tickets are being allocated to the Dylan Alcott Foundation to distribute to those with disabilities.

Untitled Group has developed event management plans with health professionals. Appropriate procedures and social distancing measures will be put in place for everyone to enjoy the show safely.

All shows have a very strict limited capacity.

Cosmo’s Midnight Create Innovative DIY Music Video For New Single “Yesteryear’ During Lockdown

by the partae June 13, 2020
written by the partae

Continuing their sensational ride into the new decade, prolific Australian duo Cosmo’s Midnight today share glistening single “Yesteryear”, out via Black Butter Records. Alongside the single comes an official video from the age of isolation, born from a cancelled shoot and the innovative minds of close creative friends.

Infused with 70s pop and a drop of psychedelia, “Yesteryear” lends insight into the burgeoning confidence and trajectory of the twin duo as they continue to evolve from their roots as online-production powerhouses to world-class, multi-skilled live artists. Uplifting lyrics embrace a firm funk bass line and intelligent sonic designs, amplifying falsettos from Pat in his first lead vocal appearance since 2018’s “Polarised”. Laced with complexities and all the sweets from their unmatched style, the track steps forth as their most self-affirming release yet, all the while basking in a moment of nostalgia.

Directed by Jordan Kirk (@xingerxanger), the accompanying visual presents an authentic product of its time, pushing creative limitations in the face of global isolation. Designed from a Zoom brainstorm featuring the act’s behind-the-scenes team, the webcam-shot sequence rides the effervescent soundtrack through all the ingredients in making a music video today, featuring working-from-home production meetings, homemade green screens, animated sequences, choreographed dance numbers, and a whole lot of DIY mischief from the duo. A raw insight into operating in the changing landscape of now, the video is a testament to the strength and adaptability of their industry – no matter the circumstance.

“‘Yesteryear’ is a song reflecting back on the years past, the unchanging feelings of youth, growing up and contemplating the future. We tried to blend these feelings into the production by drawing inspiration from older pop records as well some more progressive records. Although it seems a lot of thought went into it, ‘Yesteryear’ came about really quickly and naturally.” Cosmos Midnight

Cosmo’s Midnight kicked off 2020 by making their debut in triple j’s highly coveted Hottest 100 countdown with the floor-shaking “C.U.D.I (Can U Dig It)”. The release of “Down For You” with global pop phenomenon Ruel shortly followed, which has since seen over 11 million streams/views to date, strong global playlisting support, a premiere and addition on triple j. 2019 was equally monumental for the duo, with performances at Splendour in the Grass, Australia wide festival tours of St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival and Listen Out, and sold-out headline shows in the US, Asia and major Australian venues on a national tour. Releases “Have It All” feat. Age.Sex.Location and “It’s Love” feat. Matthew Young across the year saw the twins dip further into new directions after cementing their reputation at the pinnacle of left-field sound with 2018’s What Comes Next. The debut, triple j Feature Album now holds gold-certified favourites “History”, “Talk To Me” and “Get To Know”, and featured the likes of Winston Surfshirt, Buddy, Jay Prince & Tove Styrke.“Yesteryear” marks a thrilling curveball in the Cosmo’s Midnight story and sets the stage for the road ahead as the duo hone their craft and assume their most solid sonic identity yet. Oozing timelessness ahead of new music and more exciting announcements to arrive soon.

Tricky Announces His Forthcoming Album With Lead Single ‘Fall Please’ | Stream Now

FALSE IDOLS
TRICKY – ‘FALL TO PIECES’
RELEASE DATE: 4TH SEPTEMBER 2020

Tricky announces his 14th studio album, Fall To Pieces, out September 4th on his own label False Idols, and shares its lead single, ‘Fall Please’. The legendary producer might be over three decades deep into his music career but he’s currently on an especially prolific run. In the last year, he dropped the enchanting ‘20,20′ EP and put out an acclaimed autobiography, ‘Hell Is Round The Corner’.

‘Fall Please’, a song which Tricky likens to Washington DC Go-go, has a strange and twisted accessibility that surprised even the man who wrote it.

“With most of my stuff, there’s nothing else like it around”, he says. “But with ‘Fall Please’ I’ve managed to do something I’ve never been able to before, which is that everyone can feel it – even people who don’t know my music. It’s my version of pop music, the closest I’ve got to making pop”. Tricky

‘Fall To Pieces’ was recorded in Tricky’s Berlin studio in late 2019. Tricky is keen to point out that the tracks on the record can be deceptive; often short, ending abruptly and moving on to the next without warning. Although instrumentation varies from bursts of tense synths, distorted dial tones, and samples, the song’s lyrics can be dark and dense. Tricky’s music has always enlisted female vocalists to carry his ideas: the majority of tracks on ‘Fall To Pieces’, including ‘Fall Please’ rely on Marta Złakowska, the singer he discovered during a European tour when he was left without a vocalist on the opening night. She saved the tour from disaster. “I can tell when someone is humble and down to earth,” says Tricky. “Marta doesn’t care about being famous, she just wants to sing.”The past year in creative flurry has no doubt been a distraction for Tricky, but it’s also been a period of reflection and reassessment. Struck down with grief, he had to ask himself a question: do I fight, or go down with the ship? “You’ve gotta fucking get up and fight,” he concludes. “Right now I’m in fight mode. And I feel really good. I do.”

SUPPORT FOR 'JUNGLE TRAIN' “Lamalo infuse this brooding electronic sound with mannerisms intertwined from disco, funk, jazz and beyond; each sound they approach seemingly being a new direction that takes them somewhere unexplored and yet despite that, they manage to knock it out of the park every single time without fault.” - Pilerats (AUS) Following the releases of their critically acclaimed singles ‘Outside’ and ‘Real Love’, Sydney-based producer duo Lamalo have returned with their evocative new single ‘Jungle Train’ feat. Little Green – mixed by Anthony Garvin (Jagwar Ma, Last Dinosaurs, Ninajirachi) and mastered by Ben Feggans (Flume, Mallrat, Coda Conduct). JADE IMAGINE Release new EP You Remind Me Of Something I Lost Share lyric video for ‘Heavy Machines’

by the partae June 13, 2020
written by the partae
PRAISE FOR ‘COASTAL PINES’:

“Jade Imagine’s brand of indie-pop is so enjoyable because it’s so unassuming. On Coastal Pines you are once again sucked into a woozy guitar groove before Jade’s charming ruminations on life.” – Double J

“Coastal Pines is a groovy psych-infused jam that just radiates a cool sun-soaked warmth and free-spirited imagery.” – We All Want Someone To Shout For

“Jade McInally’s voice meanders through the paths of dreamy pop with this cool indifference, seemingly shrugging off whatever surrounds her as she veers to song towards its melodic best.” – Austin Town Hall

“Dreamy and chorus-laden, Coastal Pines still packs a punch.” – Happy Mag

“A warm, yet ever so slightly spiky vocal delivery flows over an arrangement that has a quiet passion about it. Art-rock, shoegaze, and New Wave ebb and flow as the song winds its way to a gentle resolution.” – Analogue Trash

Melbourne’s Jade Imagine return with a new EP, You Remind Me of Something I Lost. Following the band’s acclaimed 2019 debut album Basic Love, You Remind Me of Something I Lost is a compelling collection of sparse, introspective tracks typical of Jade Imagine’s signature mix of art-rock, pop and new wave.

Jade Imagine have been gracing stages around the world since they formed in 2016. You Remind Me of Something I Lost showcases the band’s deep and searching side. Opener ‘Coastal Pines’ is propulsive as a drive down a coast rode, as McInally explores the equal pull she feels towards the city and the ocean, having written much of the album and EP between Melbourne and the Sunshine Coast. This duality is present across the record: closing track ‘Feelin’ Blue’ is an atmospheric lullaby, reminiscent of the calm and serenity of the waves, and ‘Heavy Machines‘ is mechanical and paranoid, invoking a feeling of boxed-in urban sprawl. A guitar solo cuts through ‘Things Just Happen For You’, a ballad that wonders what a present and future can look like through different sets of eyes. Frontwoman Jade McInally (vocals, guitar, synths) writes lyrics of meditative exploration, her voice subtle and dynamic. Tim Harvey (Emma Louise, Real Feelings) and James Harvey (Teeth & Tongue) complete Jade Imagine’s core lineup, with bass on these recordings provided by Liam “Snowy” Halliwell (Snowy Band, The Ocean Party), for the last recordings from this original Jade Imagine line-up.

Jade Imagine released their debut album Basic Love in August 2019, on Milk! Records AU/NZ and Marathon Artists for Rest of World. Pilerats called the album “a spectacular return to form”, with The Australian describing it as “blessed with sinewy rhythm section…cool-headed and streamlined”.  Basic Love also received Album Of The Week on Triple R Radio (VIC),  Edge Radio (TAS), and Radio Adelaide (SA), received glowing reviews from The Australian to The Big Issue, and was long-listed for the prestigious AMP Album prize.

In March 2018, jade imagine travelled to the US to showcase at the prestigious SXSW music conference in Austin, as well as playing key shows in Los Angeles and New York City. The band have also toured the UK in support of Julia Jacklin (November 2018), and Pond (November 2019). Nationally, Jade Imagine have also played landmark support shows with Stella Donnelly, Lucy Dacus (US) and Alvvays (CA).

This EP is the end of one era and the start of another, a compelling collection of songs that perfectly soundtrack movement through nature, urban anxiety, and the intense push and pull between these two environments. Questions of home, nature, nurture and creativity abound, and Jade Imagine find true solace in moments of reflection.

Minibikes album Freaky Dreams out today via Cheersquad Records & Tapes! + ‘You’re So Rad’ video

by the partae June 13, 2020
written by the partae

Beloved Melbourne outfit Minibikes aren’t letting a little doom and gloom get in the way of releasing some of the warmest tunes you’ll hear this winter. The Melbourne-made, tropical Queensland dreamin’ four-piece have been soundtracking Australia’s endless summer since the late naughties, releasing their debut LP For Woods or Trail in 2011. Now, Minibikes are back and are keen to hit the beach ball back up in the air once again with their brand new record Freaky Dreams out today.

The sunshine conjurers released the album’s first lifted single back in 2018 with ‘Magic Happens’ – a drowsy dose of warm afternoon sun complete with beach romance and a hint of melancholy. In 2020, Minibikes revealed their indie jangle ‘I Can Feel Ya’, this time switching out woozy lounge vibes for sharp, driving percussion, funky basslines and self-professed guitar solos to accompany frontman Marcel Borrack’s witty, charismatic dialogue. Today, along with the album’s release, the band are thrilled to share the video for their third and final single ‘You’re So Rad’.

“I made the clip on a 90s DV cam during lockdown. I was trying to convey the nostalgic feeling of the album where the line between reality and dreams is a bit blury. Just for fun I decided to challenge one aspect of the unwritten rule of film making. “Never work with children or animals” Sure, no problems! (NOT)” – Marcel Borrack

“Things happen slowly in the world of Minibikes… Time seemed to be a big influence on writing, recording and releasing this album. It all started when I walked past the mural that’s on the album cover. It was an aquamarine slice of paradise on the side of a motel, and it set the mood for writing the songs. I wanted to capture lush fantasy and grimy reality in the same place, so I spent a long time gazing at this scene, trying to evoke that feeling in the songs. Along the way I’d be in other towns on the east coast of Australia and similar images of palm trees and whales would reveal themselves, as if by magic they seemed to be everywhere like in some freaky dream. I discovered they were all the work of artist Geoff Slater, who turned out to be awesome and generously allowed me to use the cover image. When I emailed him and explained how I’d been inspired by his work he said “Inspiration has natural power”. I thought “Wow, this guy walks the walk”, so I wrote “Magic Happens” as a tribute to the beachy, 70’s new-age vibes I was imagining him exuding. Now I’ve never met Geoff and I may be completely misrepresenting him in my thinking, but without a doubt he’s a big part of the Freaky Dreams story.

The rest of the songs followed, all of them trying to meld seemingly disparate imagery or instrumentation into a single, if slightly blurry vision. The kind of feeling you might get when you stare into a mural too long I guess.” – Marcel Borrack, Minibikes

Since forming over a decade ago, the somewhat elusive Minibikes have been scarce on the live music scene, having played only a handful of intimate gigs in their time together. The four-piece of Marcel Borrack, Libby Chow, Nathan Farrelly and Al Barden have pledged to change this trend in a post-COVID world, no doubt to welcome Freaky Dreams to the world.

Like their namesake, Minibikes can take you places. Their catchy songs transport you in time – 30 years back and 100 years into the future, and the outfit’s sophomore LP Freaky Dreams promises to do just that. After pushing back the release date, the co-produced and recorded album that sees Borrack team up with dear friend Tim Harvey (Jade Imagine, Gena Rose Bruce) is probably the closest thing to a tropical iso-escape you’ll get in the foreseeable future. So plug in and drift away!

D’ARCY SPILLER RELEASES DEBUT EP LITTLE DEMONS + SHARES NEW SINGLE ‘WHAT IN HELL’ + ENCHANTING VIDEO

by the partae June 13, 2020
written by the partae

It is with immense pride that 100s + 1000s today release Little Demons, the debut EP from Melbourne-based artist D’Arcy Spiller, with her unheard showstopper ‘What In Hell’ taking centre stage of the release.

Premiered overnight via Clash, ‘What In Hell’ comes with the eerie video directed by Marie Panguad and shot in a small town in rural Victoria, elevating the tracks darker themes to new levels. As the EP’s centrepiece, ‘What In Hell’ was written during a transitional period – as most great songs are – in which Spiller found herself at a crossroads. The philosophical song could be a cry out to the Gods, a spell cast on a former lover or a personal mantra, as D’Arcy masterfully wields her unique vocals, switching between an angelic soprano and a guttural rasp that would make even the coldest soul take notice.

“’What in Hell’ is about duality in the journey to self-discovery. There are moments along the way, where we battle to ignore our inner truths, but eventually we find parts of ourselves we never knew existed. The video expresses the internal struggle of balancing light and dark. There are darker undertones the universe tests us with, wanting us to give in.”

Little Demons is a collection of five songs that transport you to some achingly familiar places within oneself. The sometimes tender, sometimes driving compositions deal with hedonism and hurt, built around a voice that is instantly unique, all her own, equal parts robust yet delicate. Lyrically, Little Demons has proved to be a personal exorcism. Along her musical journey, D’Arcy worked with a handful of collaborators and musical kins to create the stories as revealing as tarot cards. “I wanted to make something dark and beautiful,” she says, “for everyone else who has those dark spots.”

D’Arcy Spiller first burst onto the scene in late 2019 with her crushing single ‘Cry All Night’ which debuted on triple j Unearthed and was met with an outpouring of glowing reviews from hosts including Declan Byrne, Claire Mooney and Max Quinn. The track peaked at #9 on the station’s Unearthed chart and led to her touring the country with label-mate and rising star Fergus James on his headline tour – a mutually complementary pairing that wowed crowds across the country. In January, D’Arcy released her powerful follow up ‘Wildfire’ with the news she had signed to 100s + 1000s, closely followed by the spine tingling ‘Deep Black Sea’ which earned her triple j Unearthed Feature artist and was added to rotation at triple j, an impressive feat for the fresh faced artist.

Little Demons dips into the deep pool of D’Arcy Spiller’s raw talent and musical capabilities. There is so much more to come from the young singer-songwriter and this intoxicating EP is just the beginning.

The clip pays homage to 90’s cult sitcom ‘Friends’, by substituting actors with utterly adorable kittens. The plot sees the recreation of the show’s intro and captures some of the most memorable moments, including a tip of the hat to ‘Smelly Cat’ – a comedy song performed on the show by character Phoebe Buffay. Mahon describes the process behind the making of the clip: “Some friends and myself initially set out to create an online series that would mimic real episodes. As it goes, life got in the way, so we put the project on the shelf indefinitely. One day, I got a call from a friend of mine who manages Bootleg Rascal. He asked if they could use the footage for a music video. I love the band and I wanted to see it come to life, so I gave my blessing. Cats are a complete nightmare to film. When we shot this, we were continually chasing them around and breaking up little tiffs. Totally worth it though”. While the band is forced off the road, both members are currently in the studio working on a forthcoming staggered EP titled ‘Collaborations of Very Isolated Delinquents “19’, where from May through till September, the group will release a new track each month, with ‘We Independent’ being the first offering. The band's previous single 'Lonely Times' will also feature on the record. After restrictions imposed by the Australian government, the band were forced to reschedule their East Coast capital city shows to mid-late September 2020, while their performance at Big Pineapple Music Festival has been moved to Saturday 21 November. Since their mid-2013 inception, Bootleg Rascal have released a slew of singles, an EP and two albums, all warmly received by critics and fans around the world, with support from the likes of NME, The Line of Best Fit, Clash Magazine, Pilerats and Wonderland Magazine. Multiple tracks have been added to Spotify and Apple Music playlists, high rotation on triple j and they’ve performed on the station’s esteemed ‘Like a Version’ segment. The band have continually traversed the globe playing multiple sold out headline shows in France, UK, Holland, Germany, New Zealand and Australia, and performed sold out shows in the USA. They’ve also regularly appeared on major Australian festivals including Falls Festival, The Big Pineapple Festival, Lost Paradise, Hills are Alive, Festival of the Sun and Party in the Paddock.  BOOTLEG RASCAL RESCHEDULED TOUR DATES Tickets on-sale now via www.bootlegrascal.com FRI 18 SEP | HOWLER, MELBOURNE VIC w/ SCABZ FRI 25 SEP | MARRICKVILLE BOWLS CLUB, SYDNEY NSW w/ SCABZ SAT 26 SEP | WOOLLY MAMMOTH, BRISBANE QLD w/ SCABZ SAT 21 NOV | BIG PINEAPPLE MUSIC FESTIVAL, SUNSHINE COAST QLD w/ Hilltop Hoods and DUNE RATS FOLLOW BOOTLEG RASCAL FACEBOOK | TWITTER | INSTAGRAM | SOUNDCLOUD | SPOTIFY | APPLE MUSIC

Charlotte de Witte marks the homecoming to her own imprint KNTXT with her brand new EP ‘Return to Nowhere’. The captivating record exists out of four long-awaited tracks called ‘Return to Nowhere, ‘Ensemble’, ‘Sgadi Li Mi’ and ‘What’s In The Past’.

Further exploring her sonic realm, the record features techno sound reminiscent of her ‘Selected’ EP, but switches out the acid stabs for haunting hymns. The result is a gripping dismal soundtrack that feels desolate yet hopeful. With this spellbinding EP which combines her iconic hard-punching techno with mesmerizing chants effortlessly, Charlotte proves once again why she remains at the forefront of the industry.

The release of ‘Return to Nowhere’ fits perfectly in these uncertain times. Charlotte says: “I made the EP before the current COVID-19 crisis. After being inspired by recordings of age-old traditional chants. So, I never intended it to be a “Corona record”. However, it did grow on me during this period of isolation.”

Charlotte de Witte – ‘Return to Nowhere’ EP is out now on KNTXT.

Firebeatz release majestic ‘Sinfonia Della Notte’, an ode to Dennis Ferrer’s eponymous track Out now via Heldeep Records

Firebeatz mark their third release on Heldeep Records with a sumptuous rework of Dennis Ferrer’s ‘Sinfonia Della Notte’. With 3 Gold Records under their belt and three features in the DJ Mag Top 100, the legendary Dutch duo continues their phenomenal journey with this beautiful homage.

‘Sinfonia Della Notte’ sees enchanting violins paired with distinct piano chords quickly make way for an exhilarating rise. A clean, base filled drop allows for nostalgic electronic elements in perfect harmony with high paced strings to complete this elevating tune. Dennis Ferrer’s house music classic gets a more deep and groovy revival with Firebeatz’s version of ‘Sinfonia Della Notte’.

Previously releasing ‘Lift Me Up’ (feat. Carla Monroe) on the label and gaining support from Oliver Heldens, Firebeatz are proving that their releases on Heldeep Records are on another level.

‘Sinfonia Della Notte’ is out now on Heldeep Records.

About Heldeep Records:

International superstar Oliver Heldens founded Heldeep Records to create a platform to showcase the new music of budding producers after receiving 1000’s of demos. Since 2014, Heldeep Records has grown from a modest imprint into a fully-fledged label, featuring respected mainstay acts like ALOK, Chocolate Puma, & Dada Life as well as hosting stages at leading festivals across the globe like Tomorrowland, Mysteryland, Electric Forest, Spring Awakening Music Festival and South West Four.
