UNIVERSAL / POSITIVA
‘FOREVER YOURS’ (AVICII TRIBUTE) WITH KYGO, AVICII, SANDRO CAVAZZA
OUT NOW
In 2015 Sandro Cavazza started working with Tim, top lining and co-writing songs for 2015’s Stories album (Sunset Jesus, Gonna Love Ya). In 2016 Sandro was asked to join Tim on a bus tour, driving across the US going through national parks and writing music along the way, ending the tour in Miami for Tim’s show at Ultra Festival.
When Tim passed in April 2018, Sandro reached out to Kygo to see if he would want to put together a version of Forever Yours as a tribute to Tim, to honour what he had meant for both of them. For Kygo, it was a realisation of a goal for the DJ/producer.

Sydney’s Northern Beaches Council is staging a Rock Relief concert at Brookvale Oval to support bushfire and drought-affected communities.
The all-ages show will kick off at 2pm on Saturday 15 February and aims to raise over $1 million.
Tickets cost $55 and are on sale now here.
People are also encouraged to make an additional donation at the time of purchase to help raise as much money as possible and to show how much the Northern Beaches community cares.
All profits from the show, and booking fees through the ticketing agency Humanitix, will be donated to the Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery campaign.
The Rural Fire Service (RFS) who have been partnering with Council at other summer events to raise funds, will also be onsite collecting for their bushfire appeal.
Showing their support for the devastated communities are some of the top names in Australian music, including:
• Christine Anu
• Dog Trumpet
• Furnace and the Fundamentals
• GRAACE
• Hoodoo Gurus
• Hot Dub Time Machine
• Shannon Noll
• The Choirboys
• The Superjesus
• Xavier Dunn
Mayor Michael Regan said the scale of the bushfire and drought devastation was shocking.
“I am really humbled by the generous response to Rock Relief. With this line-up it’s going to be a very special event and I know we can smash our $1 million fundraising target.
“This crisis is like nothing we have ever seen and I have been inundated by people in the community wanting to help out. While Council has been supporting our sister city Gunnedah, raising funds through Rotary at our summer events, supporting urgent donation collections at local surf clubs and donating all the profits from the Sun Run to Wires, this event will make a huge difference to thousands of suffering families.
“Those lucky enough to get tickets can be confident knowing they will have a great day and they are contributing to a great cause.
“The crisis is not over yet and the best thing we can do now is to support the front line agencies like the Red Cross so they can get the funds to where they are needed most.”
Multi-award winning, singer and songwriter Christine Anu says its times like this we need to connect and help each other.
“Like the millions all over the world, I too have looked on with devastation as these bushfires ravage our country. In times like these, Australians are so good at coming together like one big family to support each other.
“I’m thrilled to be a part of Rock Relief, knowing that it will raise some much needed funds and bring people together. Let’s focus on connection and community when we need it most,” she said.
Council is grateful to the sponsors and artists who have come on board including Humanitix, the Manly Sea Eagles, Novotel Manly and Q Station.
Rock Relief will be the first concert at Brookvale Oval since the Bourbon Festival in November 2007.

Where are you currently based and what is the music scene like there?
I’m currently based in Sydney, living in Cronulla. To my understanding, the music scene in town and around Sydney has been hit pretty hard by some really short sighted legislation over the last few years, some of which has very recently been repealed. I have high hopes that things will turn around and get better for artists and business, but that really comes down to people being willing to spend the money and time supporting local and independent artists.
How did you first start playing music?
I started singing lessons when I was in Year 6. I didn’t actually think anything would come of it, I just kind of figured out that I could do it and thought it keep it up as a creative outlet. When I started getting guitar lessons from my band mate Luke, we realised pretty quickly that something could be made of it if we could cobble some songs together. About a year later, here we are.
What’s been happening recently?
Since pretty much the start of the year, Luke and I have been touring nationally with The Beautiful Girls, which has been fantastic. In between, we played the Make It Rain benefit in Byron, and that was just an amazing few nights. Beyond that, really just trying to consume and learn from as much new music as possible and trying desperately to write some new material.
Have you been recording lately?
Not since the first batch of recordings that yielded the songs we’ve released up until now. But myself and the band are keen to get back into the studio in the coming months to work on some new material that we’ve been playing around with for a few months. By that time, I should have already written up some new stuff too. In short, I’m optimistic that we’ll have some new stuff recorded within the year.
How do you approach the recording process?
The best approach, I think, is just to be as prepared as possible. Have the songs mostly finished either in your head or jammed out between the band. Also be willing to experiment and change up songs. It’s really hard to make changes to something that, in your head, already feels final and complete, but getting rid of that voice that says “don’t change anything, it won’t be as good” can open up a whole array of new ideas and sounds. Or it could be trash, in which case you’re going in with even less doubt about your original ideas. It’s win-win, really.
What programs/instruments do you use?
During the shows, I just play an acoustic guitar of Luke’s. Really beautiful piece of kit. Otherwise, I don’t play anything. My main instrument is definitely my voice. In the studio, we record the acoustic live and Luke will jump on his Jazzmaster for effects, riffs and whatnot. We use Cubebase to record the tracks.
Who do you usually work with?
For the most part, it’s myself, Luke, our drummer James and our bass player Chris that make up the band. In the studio, Luke and Ian Pritchett co-produce the material.
What’s been happening on the touring front?
We kicked off on the Beautiful Girls’ tour at the very beginning of January. Since then it’s been either driving or flying from here to there, Queensland to Victoria back to NSW. A lot of really great shows, a lot of really great people. It’s great meeting people and talking to people in between and throughout shows, hearing what people think, what they like and what they don’t. It’s one of the best parts of touring, just seeing new people and new places.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
Over the last few weeks I’ve been trying to get to some artists that have been on my list for a while that I haven’t really explored yet. Most recently, I’ve been listening through Rage Against the Machine’s discography because it keeps me awake in transit. I’ll be moving on to Outkast and Björk after that. Radiohead, Talking Heads, David Bowie and Swans make up a consistent part of my music diet. And the odd individual album here and there. Sunbather by Deafheaven made an appearance, which is about the prettiest nightmare I’ve ever subjected myself to.
Who or what influences your sound and songwriting?
My songwriting is largely influenced by whatever I’m listening to at the current period in time. It’s never one artists necessarily, but I try to take the best parts or the best sounds or the best ideas from a few artists and turn it into something that, at the very least, sound like my own words. According to David Bowie, “Picasso said, it’s not what you steal, it’s how you use it”. At this point in my career, any comparisons to the people I idolise are welcome, because the people I idolise are brilliant.
What do you like to do away from music?
I do a lot of video gaming. A whole lot of video gaming. Probably too much, but I think there’s massive artistic merit in games that frequently overlooked. I try to read as much as possible as well. I’ve been chugging through David Byrne’s How Music Works, which is a really, really well-written and insightful read. I’ve also been attempting, albeit slower than I would like, to catch up on a lot of movies and TV that’s been sitting on a list for far too long.
What’s planned for 2020?
Honestly, its hard to say. A lot of what we’re doing is playing by ear, seeing how our releases go and planning it out from there. We’re definitely keen to continue along with the tour, definitely keen to get in the studio at some point. A lot of writing in between, a lot of gigging. Basically just working on building up this pretty little empire in any way possible.
Favourite food and place to hang out?
It would either be pizza or chicken. In saying that, our family restaurant, Queen Margherita in Cronulla, makes a hell of a Bolognese. By far my favourite thing in the place. As for my favourite place to hang out, there’s really nothing like home for me. But I’ll find enjoyment any place as long as I’m with the right people who can keep me distracted enough to where I don’t miss my bed too much.

For Avoidant’s 3rd release and kicking off 2020 for the label is Autonomous. After a chance meeting and several demo exchanges, this new project has birthed the Dialekt EP. Drawing inspiration from Drexciyan-era Electro, Autonomous delivers on high intensity, funked out and mercurial minded tracks, designed with attitude and channelling the spirit of raw Detroit electronics.
Title track Dialekt, is a mechanical mind bender as an ominous synth hook draws you deeper into the world of the Automaton. The Void remains steady with precision 808 beats and percussion, leading against a backdrop of twisted, acid soaked synths and a stylistic 80’s string. Celestial Spaces closes out this perfectly defined debut EP from Autonomous, once again focusing on clearly defined drums and a warped, undulating hook.
Avoidant Records is a brand-new label from Glasgow rooted in leftfield electro and diverse sonics which launched in October 2019.
Title: House Party Remixes EP
Label: Mad Decent
Infamous party-starter Valentino Khan just dropped his full “House Party” remix EP after leaking two tracks this month, Eliminate’s remix of “Pony” and Tchami’s remix of Valentino Khan & Diplo‘s “JustYourSoul.” As the first two releases demonstrated, the remix EP will satisfy fans of everything from future house to electro and bass. The four new tracks include appearances by rising artists including Drezo, who put a grimy bass spin on Valentino & Chris Lorenzo’s “Flip The Switch,” Born Dirty’s funky “What’s Your Name,” Schade’s minimal bass rendition of “BRB,” and Ibranovski’s tech-house inspired “Better.” Following the theme of his original album, Khan guarantees a dirty good time from every track. Press play on the “House Party” remix EP and enjoy your favorite anthems in a whole new way.
The world was introduced to LA-based DJ and producer Valentino Khan in 2014, when he burst onto the scene with his debut EP “In Khan We Trust” on Skrillex’s OWSLA label. Khan’s sound possessed a unique versatility, incorporating elements of trap, bass, hardstyle, house, and more into a driving, often heavy sounds that found homes on labels such as Mad Decent, Spinnin Records, and Ultra. In 2015, Khan’s original track “Deep Down Low” became an international sensation, earning the title of “Most Played Track” of the year and topping vSirius XM’s #1 Song of 2015 on Electric Area. Since then, he has earned a reputation as a remix master with official renditions of RL Grime’s “Pressure,” Alison Wonderland’s “Good Enough,” Calvin Harris’s “One Kiss” and more. His original productions include “Pump,” which has over 17M streams on Spotify, “Gold” with Sean Paul, as well as production credits for the likes of 2 Chainz, B.O.B., Dizzee Rascal, Iggy Azalea, TI. and more. On the touring front, Khan sold out his show at the iconic Hollywood Palladium this year, featuring a b2b set with Shaquille O’Neal (DJ Diesel) and a surprise appearance by legend Snoop Dogg. 2020 is already shaping up to be the year of Valentino Khan, and we can’t wait to see what happens next.
Title: More Than OK
Label: CYB3RPVNK
R3HAB kicks off the new decade with “More Than OK” in collaboration with singer/songwriter Clara Mae and producer Frank Walker – a melodic and vibey tune that’s full of hope as much as heartache. The track opens with dreamy, organic instrumentals that create a sumptuous backdrop for Clara Mae’s stunning vocals as she performs lyrics about a couple losing the magic in their relationship. “More Than OK” is a song about never settling for love or life that doesn’t set your soul on fire every day, a message that many will relate to as they move into a new year of goals and resolutions. The new single is R3HAB’s first collaboration with Clara Mae, and the second time he works with Frank Walker, who enlisted R3HAB as a remixer of his “Heartbreak Back” in 2018, which went gold in Canada. Check out what all three artists had to say about this exciting collaboration, and be on the lookout for the music video soon!
“I’ve been a fan of Clara Mae’s voice for quite a while, and when I got the chance to work with her, I didn’t hesitate one minute. ‘More Than OK’ is a cool vibey song with great vocals, including a message everyone can relate to, and a perfect way to kick off the new decade.” – R3HAB
“‘More Than OK‘ is a reminder to never settle for less than what you want in life and in love. You want every day to feel special, and love like every day is your last. Working on this record with R3HAB and Frank Walker has been so much fun. I love the vibe they brought to the track. Shooting the video was amazing. It was a real challenge doing underwater scenes but also an incredible experience, and we had lots of fun together. So happy with how it all turned out, and Mario, the director, made the video look so beautiful!” – Clara Mae
“I’ve been a huge fan of R3HAB since I first started producing music and am lucky to call him a good friend as well. Around a year ago I reached out about getting him to remix my single ‘Heartbreak Back,’ which went gold in Canada, so I’m super fired up that we finally found the right record for us to collab on. Clara Mae is unbelievably talented, and her voice on ‘More Than OK‘ really made this one special!” – Frank Walker
Over the last eight years, the Dutch/Moroccan artist Fadil El Ghoul – better known as R3HAB – has established himself as a leader at the forefront of modern electronic music. His talent has been called the “future of the craft” by the likes of Forbes and Billboard, and he’s circuited the globe’s best clubs and festivals, all without the backing of a formal record label. In 2017, R3HAB independently released his debut album “Trouble” through his imprint CYB3RPVNK, which amassed over a half-billion streams globally and officially placed R3HAB among electronic music’s heavy hitters. He made number 14 on DJ Mag’s Top 100 list in 2019, topping the charts with tracks like “Lullaby” and “Hold On Tight,” while his sophomore album “The Wave,” revealing more complex, emotional and experimental layers of himself, has amassed over 250 million streams on Spotify alone. In 2019 R3HAB’s “All Around The World” with A Touch of Class quickly became his biggest ever record already topping 200M streams across platforms and achieving gold & platinum status in 8 countries, while the follow-up saw him team up with none other than ex-One Direction phenom ZAYN. Stay tuned to see where R3HAB’s journey takes him in 2020!
After spending years studying jazz vocals and piano in her small town of Gävle, Sweden, Clara Mae garnered attention by co-writing with the likes of David Guetta, Tiesto and Martin Jensen. She soon after co-wrote and featured on KREAM’s “Taped Up Heart,” which boasts over 130 million streams and reached the top 25 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart. Her debut EP Sorry For Writing All The Songs About You (available now via Big Beat Records) collectively boasts over 75 million worldwide streams to date. The 6-track collection was heralded by the release of “Rooftop,” collaborative single “Better Me Better You” with Jake Miller (which the duo performed on the Elvis Duran Show and MTV’s TRL), “I’m Not Her” (praised as “a pop anthem” by Culture Collide) and “I Forgot” (deemed “the perfect anthem” for running into an ex-flame by Refinery 29). Most recently, Clara released tracks “Lost” and “Unmiss You,” in addition to touring in support of singer-songwriter Ella Vos in North America and European tours with singer-producer Alex Aiono and singer-songwriter Carlie Hanson.
Lucifour M is a band whose multifaceted and multidimensional music features many references to cinematic works.
The two musicians Michele Ducci and Marco Frattini have already been playing together as “M+A” for a while when they had the chance to perform as opening act for Bryan Ferry at Glastonbury Festival. It was there in the backstage that the idea of founding Lucifour M as a full band came into being when Ducci played new sketches of songs to Frattini. In the further course Michele Manzo (bass, guitar and keys) and Mattia Dallara (samplers and keys) already part of better known Amycanbe, should come to the project and complete the band as a quartet.
The main recordings of Lucifour M’s debut EP “UNO”, which has been released on Sonar Kollektiv Berlin in September 2019, have been produced within the scope of three extensive studio sessions where the four have recorded live versions of their jamming and playing.
Dog is first groovy brand new single out for you to enjoy together with amazing animation video by Emanuele Kabu.
“Valentine” has been alse released as a single, here you can find a live version.

Title: 1990
Label: Arkade
Release date: January 24, 2020
Kaskade joins forces with the Swedish trio BROHUG (composed of John Dahlbäck, and Chris and Niklas Lunde) for perhaps the most prolific throwback single in electronic music to date, a tribute to one of the most significant years in music – 1990. The namesake-titled track is a play on SNAP!’s iconic “The Power,” reworked with snippets of the original vocals set to Kaskade and BROHUG’s ingenious production. Opening with a groovy melody as the backdrop to nostalgia-ridden lyrical riffs, “1990” progressively builds the tension to almost unbearable levels. We all know the moments just before a track of this magnitude drops, and the pressure is real right before the bouncy and driving crescendo, on which every old school fan’s favorite line, “I’ve Got the Power!” rides perfectly. “1990” is out on Kaskade’s Arkade imprint. Hear about the new release in the artists’ own words below:
“1990 was an incredible year for music. You couldn’t go into a club, pizzeria, or record store without hearing the iconic song by SNAP! “The Power,” and here we are in 2020 with it still buzzing in the zeitgeist. ‘1990‘ is only to be played on the loudest of speakers, and has got the power to stay stuck in your head long after hearing it.” – Kaskade & BROHUG
As a household name in electronic music for nearly two decades, Kaskade needs no introduction. His list of achievements is a mile long: 11 studio albums, 7 GRAMMY nominations, the first solo electronic dance artist to sell out both Navy Pier in Chicago and the Staples Center in Los Angeles, the first DJ to ever secure a Las Vegas residency, and the first electronic artist to headline Coachella. Less tangible but even more important has been his influence on dance music tastes and culture for generations of listeners. Often Kaskade is one of the artists who introduced now-veteran listeners to the genre, and such fans are usually fans for life. In 2019, he worked with multi-award winner Meghan Trainor on “With You” and Gorgon City on “Go Slow,” among solo releases, such as “My Light,” “Come On,” and official remixes for the likes of Alicia Keys, Jennifer Lopez and Gwen Stefani earlier.
Regardless of their satirical stage name, BROHUG is not here to play games. Since John Dahlbäck and the Lunde brothers formed BROHUG in 2016, the trio has worked with Ghastly, remixed Steve Angello, and released on labels such as Confession, Spinnin’ Records, Dim Mak, Musical Freedom, and their new label BROHOUSE. In 2019, their release schedule was packed with relentless hit after hit. Virtually unrivaled, their touring has been intense since the start, and 2020 will be no exception. BROHUG has really put their name out, with sets on festivals like Ultra Music Festival in Miami and Tomorrowland in Belgium, touring Australia and several tours in the US and Asia. A new decade brings with it new possibilities, so stay tuned to hear more from Kaskade and BROHUG coming soon.
‘New Wales’ draws on the simplicity and depth of the place they call home, with classic songwriting and production styles reminiscent of R.E.M. and Tom Petty, mixed with the immediacy and upbeat catchiness of MGMT and Beck. Pull back the veil on the seemingly straight-ahead pop songs and you’ll find something new every time, “I feel I’ve entered one of those vintage stores where the prices are a little higher than you want, but the crap-junk choices have already been sorted out.” says producer Rusty Matyas (Imaginary Cities, The Weakerthans).
Veteran Winnipeg Musicians David Pankratz, Sandy Taronno, Matthew Harder, Rob Mitchell and Jamie Taronno have played stages all over the world, whether writing, producing or touring with their own projects or lending skills to talented friends, they’ve developed a combined century of experience in the music industry, racking up major songwriting credits, awards, and loyal fans. Two new singles, ‘Face Tattoo’ and ‘Winnipeg’, to be released in fall 2019 are rich with big, sing-along melodies and chord structures that can offer energizing positivity, or reflective beauty. “They’re the kind of songs you have blaring out of your convertible while driving down the freeway,” says mix engineer Dave Schiffman (The Strumbellas, Vampire Weekend),“In my 25 plus years of making records I have always tried to work with artists who are true to themselves and their craft. New Wales more than fulfills that goal and I expect to hear big things from these guys.”
