Where are you currently based and what is the music scene like there?
I’m living in Japan. There are tons of music scenes here in Japan, but when I say techno, I think people are getting interested in more experimental or minimal techno than before. And it is really nice to me! How did you first get into playing and producing techno?
I’ve never DJ in my life, but I really love electronic music. When I had an electronica band, I started to compose and singing. After years, I met my producer and gave me a chance to touch vintage synthesizers. After I started to touch old school rhythm machines(808, 909) or analogue sequencers, I felt this is really fresh and I though I can make tracks forever! What have you been working on recently?
I’m making galcid’s 2nd album right now.
You have a new Melting EP on the way, please tell us what or who influenced the sound and songwriting for this EP?
Hummm…I’ve never though of that. But Squarepusher is my hero! What programs/instruments did you use?
I used TB-303, TR-8s, and eurorack modular systems. Hisashi, my producer, recorded on logic and edited in there.
How do you approach the use of your equipment when recording and in contrast playing live?
When I use my equipment at live, I try to make a vibe to move body. But recording is not only that, people keep listening. So I tried to make the scene in your mind, but not only try to make your body. Did you work with anybody during the recording/production of ‘Melting’ ?
Hisashi Satoi. Where was the studio located and what was the space like?
The studio is in my house. The studio is surrounded by old synthesizers.
Please describe how the tracks on ‘Melting’ came about and what process you follow to produce each track:
Usually, I don’t use 4/4 beat much when I do galcid. But when I played 4/4 beat and TB-303, I felt the beat deviation but it was not. It was interesting, so I kept recording.
You’ve focused specifically on Acid, why is this?
this is my new project, “lenacid”. galcid is more experimental and industrial. I love Acid music, and just wanted to focus pure Acid music. What is it about Acid that you love and how is it different to your work in the past?
The sound of TB-303!! I always use modular systems for galcid. There are harmony with TB-303 with something. But lenacid use only TB-303, rhythm machine, and a few modules. It is very simple set for lenacid. Who are you listening to at the moment?
My tracks for 2nd album!
Any secrets that you care to share?
The cable I’m using is 40years old. Hisashi made this cable when he was jr.high. This cable make this good cheap sound.
What do you like to do away from music?
sleeping or watching movies
What do you have planned for 2019? I have some schedules to do live and workshops in China, may be in the US. and of course in Japan!!
Favourite food and place to hangout?
Old Japanese Izakaya(tapas). I love the atmosphere. like Bladerunner!!
