What is your name and role within Kid Runner?
Fran Litterski – writer, synth player, background vocalist.
How did you start?
Kurt (guitar), Scott (bass and production) and I met at school in Columbus, Ohio. After graduating, we started playing music together – we met Drew (lead vocals) at a show and it all came together really nicely. We started writing a ton in 2012 and released our first EP in January of 2013!
Where are you based?
We are based in Columbus, Ohio.
Please give an example of your music writing process?
We are very collaborative. Usually, one of us will bring an idea to the table – whether it’s a chorus melody, a production bed, a guitar riff – then, we’ll all jam/shape the song together! That’s how most of our songs have been born.
What are you working on right now?
We are currently about to release a music video for our song “Don’t Change Me” followed by two remixes! We are really excited about it!
What do you like to do outside of music and does it affect your music?
We are all very involved in music outside of the band as well. I (Fran) play with a few groups and I’m constantly writing. Scott, our bass player and producer, also works with other artists. Our guitar player, Kurt, works full-time as a a video editor (which is very helpful when we’re making music videos!) and our singer, Drew, also writes and produces!
How would you describe your music genre?
We are “Alternative Pop” with a bit of rock and rap thrown in.
Do you know any music theory?
I actually went to school for Music Composition so I’m very into music theory. Kurt and Scott also attended music school and are very musically inclined. It’s fun to know the rules and when to break them 🙂

What are your plans for the future?
We are releasing these remixes and are music video to push “Don’t Change Me” and then it’s new music!
How did you get into music?
I, personally, started playing piano at a very young age. I’d love to make up my own songs and it’s really been constant music since then. I never stopped. I’ve always been obsessed with listening and playing music, going to shows.
What are you listening to at the moment?
My new favorites that I’ve been listening to the past few weeks are Tove Styrke, the new SOHN album, Sigrid, and Maggie Rogers. The newest Louis The Child EP is also fantastic.
Who are your top 5 influences and icons?
My top 5 influences for Kid Runner have been (and I know the other guys would agree on most of these): Foster The People, Passion Pit, Miike Snow, Phoenix, and Phantogram.
Personally – Ben Folds. Always Ben Folds.
When are you playing next?
Our next big show is at Fashion Meets Music Festival in Columbus, Ohio on August 18th. We get to play with Tegan and Sara, St. Lucia, and Third Eye Blind…we are super pumped.
