FUTURE ISLANDS
RVG announced as national support
Melbourne production holds released
Final tickets remaining for Sydney
Following the announcement of Future Islands’ Australian tour dates, Handsome Tours & Secret Sounds are pleased to announce RVG as the national support. RVG’s debut LP A Quality Of Mercy finds band leader, Romy Vager, trying to move beyond ego, beyond the simple confessional of the songwriter, hoping to find perspective on both world and self. RVG’s songs are at once personal and universal, intimate and grand, timely and timeless. They will join Future Islands for all their headline shows.
Production holds have been released for both Melbourne shows and final tickets remain for Sydney.
Future Islands will also appear at Fidelity, Fairgrounds and Meredith festivals. Having just released their fifth studio album The Far Field (4AD / Remote Control), and having played at Splendour In The Grass, the band are thrilled to bring their live show back to Australia in December. Full details below.
Samuel, William and Gerrit began writing new material in January 2016 on the coast of North Carolina, and continued throughout the year in Baltimore before road-testing these songs at a series of secret shows under fake names. Later that year, they travelled to Los Angeles to record with Grammy Award-winning producer John Congleton at the legendary Sunset Sound, where everyone from The Beach Boys to Prince have laid down masterpieces.
A well seasoned band, both in the studio and on the stage, Future Islands have distilled the essence of their success and longevity to the themes that permeate their records: that there is power in emotional vulnerability, that one can find a way to laugh and cry in the same breath – and be stronger for it. It’s a statement that identifies their unique presence on stage, and soon Australian audiences will once again bear witness to Future Islands, in their dynamic glory.

PRAISE FOR FUTURE ISLANDS
★★★★ – The Age + Sydney Morning Herald
“Future Islands present more alternately euphoric and melancholy songs, though frontman Samuel T. Herring, a compelling modern blues man, now emotes a little world-wearily.” – The Herald Sun, ★★★★
“These sneakily seductive earworms will envelop you like a womb – shutting out all the bad, keeping in all the good.” – STACK
“The other surprise is Blondie icon Deborah Harry’s duet on Shadows, the penultimate track on an outing that nudges Future Islands just enough in fresh directions.” – The West Australian
“Future Islands have captured their humanity in all its sparkling, chaotic glory.” – DIY
“The more time I spend with this album, the more I suspect that its creators may be in the process of securing their place in the lineage of the Great American Rock Band… Amid the tumult of today’s America, the voices of unflinchingly honest, humane artists like Future Islands will only increase in their importance. We have much to learn from them.” – The Line Of Best Fit
