What’s been happening recently?
With the help of Jordan Finlay, I recorded an album with my band! The other 2/3’s of the band (Marlon and Jake) also just graduated high school, so good for them. We’ve been recording in our school holidays and songwriting throughout the terms, it was a bit of a tough balance but we did it in the end and got 8 songs out of the year. The songs have a mixture of solo, duo and full band.
Your new album ‘Nihilism’ will be released at the end of December 2019, what influenced the sound and songwriting?
Jeff Buckley’s ‘Grace’ and existential dread, mostly.
How did you go about writing the album?
Wrote the songs acoustically by myself, then exploded the songs with the band and added spicy new compositional features.
Where and when did you record and who with?
With Jordan Finlay, in the infamous ‘Shed.’ A very comforting and easy-going environment, great for creative expression.
What programs/instruments did you use to record?
Ableton, synths, electric guitar, bass, drums all that alternative rock jazz.
Any favourite tracks from the album, if so which and why?
I’m LOVING ‘TIkaboo Peak’ at the moment, for the CLIMATIC ending, with this crazy guitar solo and all the distorted psychedelic layers.
What do you have planned for Nihilism?
Sharing it around as much as possible! Live venues, local radio stations and lots of Instagramming.
Where will we be able to buy/listen?
All online streaming services (Spotify, Itunes, Apple Music, Google Play, Amazon Music) Also there’ll be physical CDs for sale on our website.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
I’ve been reading some fantastic Jeff Buckley biography books lately and I read how much he admired Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (Pakistani vocalist and musician) and how expressive and creative Qawwali music is, so I’ve been listening to him a lot lately, the soul, passion and energy Nusrat puts into his melodic adventures is very entertaining.
What’s planned for 2020?
Going to be doing a small scale tour around Victoria in Jan/Feb, doing acoustic shows and full band. I’m super excited to play with some awesome acts from around Melbourne. So keep up with my social sites for gigs and dates!
