Since its release on 31st July 1995 “Timeless” by Clifford Joseph Price — the pioneering producer and DJ better known as Goldie remains foundational to the evolution of British dance music and is now entirely remastered and re-packaged as a 25-year anniversary edition.
The new edition of the album is available on Triple Gold Vinyl, Triple CD and also via digital format.
A complex debut album, ‘Timeless’ founded a new chapter in the history of the electronic genre originally reaching no. 7 in the charts and since been celebrated over two decades for its unique blend of sublime strings, beautiful atmospheres and sophisticated vocals. Inarguably an ambitious blueprint at the time; Goldie’s production in 1995 fashioned the edgy rhythms and bass of jungle into a newly futuristic model, now globally admired as drum & bass.
Notably Goldie’s groundbreaking album ‘Timeless’ celebrated its milestone In July 2020, during a uniquely fractured summer when people were experimenting with their listening habits as much they did back in 95’ with the blurring of tastes and genres.
Drum and Bass may have felt harsh and unwelcome at first back then, yet through a quick peek into Goldie’s warm musical soul that ‘Timeless’ made its statement; few can ignore it’s the allure. A unique and iconic lineage of jazz and electronica, a nod to 70’s soul and assertive yet beautifully graceful atmospherics.
The masterpiece of an album has recently been explored through the capsule portal and website that included exclusive access to interviews with collaborators, unseen 1995 footage, archival photography and much more to come. Subscribers were initially given download access new to remixes of “Inner City Life” and an exclusive interview between Goldie and Pete Tong who originally signed the record to his label FFRR back in the mid 90’s.
Goldie – Timeless (25 Year Anniversary Edition) is out now.

The Murlocs have this morning announced details of their new album, Bittersweet Demons, to be released June 25th on Flightless Records. Today’s news comes with the first track – and a new video – from the exhilarating rock band. |
|
‘Francesca’ was written as a rip-roaring celebration of the rejuvenated life of frontman Ambrose Kenny-Smith’s mom. With music written by Murlocs’ keyboard and guitarist Tim Karmouche, Ambrose says of the lyrics,“The song is about my mother and how she had been lost for love since the separation from my father when I was 10. In the last year and a half or so she’s found love again, with a very close family friend of ours, someone who has always been a godfather and mentor to me in many ways. This has changed her spirit immensely for the better. You can really see the pop in her step as this enormous weight has been lifted off her shoulders.” |
|
|
|
Citing some of his favourite songs as being odes to impressive women – like Van Morrison’s ‘Gloria’ – Ambrose explains, “Francesca is my mother’s middle name and I’ve always loved it so much.” Of turning his songwriting lens to his mother, and celebrating her rediscovered joie de vivre, he adds,“It’s probably the most positive, feel-good song we’ve ever done. It’s also the closest we’ve ever come to having an 80’s phase.” |
|
Directed by Alex McLaren, the ‘Francesca’ video was shot at the end of April 2020, when Melbourne was coming out of one of its first short Covid lockdown periods and restrictions had eased for a short period of time. The band and director quickly jumped on the opportunity to shoot while they had the chance. |
|
Says Ambrose, “I remembered being at a festival and bumping into our longtime video-clip collaborator and friend, Alex Mclaren. I had brought him back to our campsite and he played the song ‘I Love LA’ by Randy Newman which ultimately brought the tents down and got the party started.” Newman’s 1983 classic soft top music video informed ‘Francesca’, with the car footage being shot along Ivanhoe Boulevard in Melbourne where Ambrose’s mom grew up. |
|
The theme of celebrating loved ones continues on the album, which is equal parts character study and adoring homage. With Bittersweet Demons The Murlocs share a collection of songs reflecting on the people who leave a profound imprint on their lives, the saviours and hell raisers and assorted other mystifying characters. The most personal and boldly confident work yet, the album sets that storytelling to 11 infectious tracks written mostly on piano, lending a greater emotional intensity to the band’s restless and radiant brand of garage-rock. What emerges is a beautifully complex body of work, one that shines a light on the fragilities of human nature while inducing the glorious head rush that accompanies any Murlocs outing. |
|
With their lineup including two members of the globally beloved King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard (Kenny-Smith and bassist Cook Craig), The Murlocs recorded at Button Pushers Studio in Melbourne with producer Tim Dunn, dreaming up a prismatic sound that pinballs from sunshine-pop to blues-punk to wide-eyed psychedelia. Naming John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band and Harry Nilsson’s Lennon-produced Pussy Cats among their key reference points, the band adorned their songs with many unexpected details: woozy Wurlitzer melodies, Brian May-esque guitar harmonies, playful atmospheric elements like the whoosh of summer rain, caught by a microphone dragged into the street mid-storm. The result is an album both exuberant and heavy-hearted, a dynamic that wholly fulfils Kenny-Smith’s mission of “always aspiring to write songs that have a bit of twisted positivity to them.” |
|
The Murlocs hope to have some Australian touring plans to share sooner rather than later. In the meantime, we can promise that Bittersweet Demons is a dizzying delight of cracking songs, all set to provide some superior sonic sparkle for each listener. |
|
|
The Murlocs are: Matt Blach (drums, vocals), Cook Craig (bass guitar), Tim Karmouche (keyboards, guitar, vocals), Ambrose Kenny-Smith (vocals, harmonica, guitar) and Cal Shortal (guitar). |

Long-standing residents of Glasgow’s prolific underground club scene Co-Accused have launched their new techno and electro orientated label Co-Accused Records. Debuting with a digital and vinyl 4 track Psychonaut EP from them on 14th May and featuring a remix from Jensen Interceptor, the release is permeated with the same infectious energy and driving, futuristic techno that fuels their live sets.
As well as gifting fans with vinyl manifestations of their notorious basement parties, the new label is also the husband and wife duo’s way of showcasing some of the extraordinary talent that has been bubbling under the surface of the country’s empty dancefloors.
The new EP is a reflection of the promising underground talent they have supported over the years in their club night in Paisley’s Club 69 in the West of Glasgow. The locally adored parties have accumulated an impressive roster of artists over the years. Alongside some of the most exciting emerging names, as well as time-honoured leaders of the scene like Slam and Leftfield, Co-Accused have consistently provided an authentic haven for underground dance fans in the city’s rapidly changing club scene.
We caught up with them to hear more and you can check out their epic ‘Sonic Assault’ mix here that has gone live to celebrate the new label news.
Where are you based?
We live in a town called Paisley which is just outside of Glasgow in Scotland.
Co-Accused Records launches this Spring. What was behind the decision to launch your own label?
It’s something we’ve always wanted to do. Our music was going down really well in our DJ sets so we felt like now was the time to get it out there to like-minded music lovers 🙂
What kind of artists and sounds will the label embody?
We love underground electro & techno. Over the years, artists like Sync 24, Anthony Rother, Dave Clarke, Gary Beck, Luke Slater and The Hacker have influenced our sound. It would be amazing to get them involved. We’re very keen to release music from up and coming relatively unknown producers too.
The label’s debut release, Psychonaut Society, is dropping in May. What can we expect to hear?
Sonic grooves from another galaxy!
What inspired the title of the EP?
The title felt fitting with the vibe of the EP. We’ve been on a few Psychonaut journey’s ourselves that felt like we were travelling through space. If you haven’t been on one before, give it a go. We highly recommend it 😉
Australian producer Jensen Interceptor is behind a huge remix of the EPs title track – how did this come about?
Mikey played at one of our parties in 2019. We really hit it off and were delighted when he said he would be up for doing something on the label. We’ve always loved his sound and couldn’t be happier with the remix.
How long have Co-Accused been making records together for?
We’ve been producing together for about 5 years.
What is your creative process like?
We love to jam on our synths with some basic beats and build from there. Our current set up is the Bass Station II, Minilogue, Micro Korg, TR-8 and the TT-303 Bass Bot. We enjoy using hardware as it’s more hands on approach and have fun twiddling knobs to create our sound.
What labels inspire you?
Cultivated Electronics, Soma, UR, Brokntoys, R&S, Gigolo, Bek Audio, Bass Agenda, Rotation and Mechatronica have been a big influence.
Once the world can dance together again, where are you each most excited to play?
We’re buzzing to get back to our residency in Club 69. It’s a proper underground club and the vibe is always amazing! We’ve also got the Riverside Festival in Glasgow to look forward to in September. Yasss 🙂
As stalwarts of Scotland’s underground electronic music scene, what artist are you most excited about right now?
Fear-E is a wicked producer and DJ. We love his sound and there’s always a few of his tunes in our playlist.
What can we expect next from Co-Accused Records?
All going well, A VA compilation of Electro & Techno from established Artists and unknown producers who we think are wicked.
You can connect with them on Facebook and check out their latest mix ‘Sonic Assault’ to celebrate their new label news here.
POTION RECORDS
SODA STATE – ‘PORTAL’ E.P.
OUT NOW
Soda State are the contemporary dance music duo consisting of Mike “M” Ridley and Sam Tracie, both part human, part digital avatar and together they bring you their debut E.P. ‘Portal’ on Potion Records.
On a mission to share their story about the utopian world ‘Soda State’. It is a mysterious destination that exists in space and time and can only be accessed through the right combination of 1’s and 0’s when producing their unique music. Once they hit the right sequence they have the key to enter a portal and enjoy a place of pure euphoric escapism.
Following on from their first releases ‘The Look’, ‘Midnight’ and ‘Way To Go’, they now release the final singles to complete their debut E.P. package with ‘Gold’ and E.P. title track ‘Portal’.
‘Gold’ provides a refreshing dose of their now signature sound; 80s synth stabs, big retro drums and contemporary pop vocals, layered with irresistible basslines and blissful melodies. E.P signature track ‘Portal’ is an instrumental, with darker tones, atmospheric, delivering big synth lines and packed with their signature retro style, a release that would not sound out of place on 80s TV series Stranger Things.
“We’re super excited to finally release our debut EP! For us it’s an important step representing our journey so far. It was making our first record, The Look, that opened the portal and took us to Soda State and since then, Midnight, Way To Go and now Gold have taken us back. The EP is a celebration of escapism, nostalgia and new beginnings, encapsulated by lead single Gold ; the euphoria from a new experience that we don’t want to let go of. We can’t wait to share it with the world… “
Soda State.
For those just discovering their fascinating story… In late 2019, M and Tracie are in their garage recording studio in London. Using their laptops, classic analogue synths and an array of gadgets they’ve wired themselves, they stumble on a sound, a combination of 0’s and 1’s in digital code that unexpectedly opens an interdimensional portal, transporting them to an alternate reality: the Soda State.
Transformed into digital versions of themselves, M and Tracie find themselves in a utopian world. Euphoric and intoxicating feeling both nostalgic and brand new – like nothing they’ve experienced before. Immediately hooked, they vow never to leave this paradise.
Before long, they find themselves tumbling through the portal again, away from Soda State. Re-entering the human world in their digital forms. Hypnotized by what they’ve experienced, they can’t rest until they find their way back. Now getting to grips with life in the real world as digital avatars, the friends are on a musical journey to rediscover the sound that will open the portal once more.
Soda State come to us with fascinating and highly creative imagery, they are also lovers of all things retro, think video games, fashion and of course, music. The single release comes equipped with an original video bursting with nostalgic childhood happy triggers and an alternative ‘Club Soda’ Mix primed for when we finally return to the dancefloor.
Soda State’s ‘Portal’ E.P is out now on Potion Records

carolesdaughter says, “I wrote trailer trash 2 years ago when I was in rehab. The song is about accepting the unique and sometimes trashy parts of you. The video was inspired by Bombay beach and the art there, I wanted to create my own world where I could do anything I wanted.”
carolesdaughter aka Thea Taylor has already struck a chord. After buzzing with previous releases, cold bathroom floor and my mother wants me dead, carolesdaughter wrote viral success violent over a somber beat laden with 808s and creaky acoustic guitar. She uploaded it to Soundcloud, and it quickly racked up two million streams. Now, the track has over 230 million streams across all platforms.
about carolesdaughter:
carolesdaughter transmutes turbulence into strangely soothing alternative pop anthems awash in lo-fi glitch, bedroom acoustics, and gutter goth elegance. Like a fairy tale heroine with facial piercings and D.I.Y. spikes affixed to her shoes, the 18-year-old Southern California singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist born Thea Taylor immediately captivates without fear or filter. An outsider since birth, she grew up as one of 10 kids in a strict Mormon household. After seeing a tattoo of the iconic logo, she researched Black Flag online and unlocked the worlds of punk, hardcore, and goth. Bouncing between five different high schools, she started doing drugs, falling down a rabbit hole and taking multiple trips to rehab. On the last trip, she made a promise to pursue music upon returning home and ended up making major waves with the single violent. Amassing millions of streams independently and landing a deal with Arista Records, carolesdaughter makes an immediate connection on a series of singles and her forthcoming 2021 debut.
