Since its release on 31st July 1995 “Timeless” by Clifford Joseph Price — the pioneering producer and DJ better known as Goldie remains foundational to the evolution of British dance music and is now entirely remastered and re-packaged as a 25-year anniversary edition.

The new edition of the album is available on Triple Gold Vinyl, Triple CD and also via digital format.

A complex debut album, ‘Timeless’ founded a new chapter in the history of the electronic genre originally reaching no. 7 in the charts and since been celebrated over two decades for its unique blend of sublime strings, beautiful atmospheres and sophisticated vocals. Inarguably an ambitious blueprint at the time; Goldie’s production in 1995 fashioned the edgy rhythms and bass of jungle into a newly futuristic model, now globally admired as drum & bass.

Notably Goldie’s groundbreaking album ‘Timeless’ celebrated its milestone In July 2020, during a uniquely fractured summer when people were experimenting with their listening habits as much they did back in 95’ with the blurring of tastes and genres.

Drum and Bass may have felt harsh and unwelcome at first back then, yet through a quick peek into Goldie’s warm musical soul that ‘Timeless’ made its statement; few can ignore it’s the allure. A unique and iconic lineage of jazz and electronica, a nod to 70’s soul and assertive yet beautifully graceful atmospherics.

The masterpiece of an album has recently been explored through the capsule portal and website that included exclusive access to interviews with collaborators, unseen 1995 footage, archival photography and much more to come. Subscribers were initially given download access new to remixes of “Inner City Life” and an exclusive interview between Goldie and Pete Tong who originally signed the record to his label FFRR back in the mid 90’s.

Goldie – Timeless (25 Year Anniversary Edition) is out now.

Red Rum Club – The Elevation (Acoustic)
OUT NOW

From the album, The Hollow Sessions, out Fri 30 April 2021 on Modern Sky

Red Rum Club kept the fire of hope burning through last year with their festival-in-the-front-room singles, including The Elevation. Now that track becomes the latest to be drawn from the band’s ice-cool, unplugged album, The Hollow Sessions, released at the end of April on Modern Sky, kick-starting a year of new activity for the main stage-ready six-piece.

Already steaming hot with anticipation for a colossal, 30-date UK Tour later this year, including rearranged dates on the road with Circa Waves, plus post-vax festival appearances at Sound City and Neighbourhood Weekender, the band took UK Lockdowns 1 and 2 as the opportunity to head back into the studio. Drawing a line under a stellar two years, which has seen them release two albums, Matador and The Hollow Of Humdrum, the band put twelve of their most-loved tunes to the acoustic test.

As with previous stripped-back single, Eleanor, it’s The Elevation’s turn to cast off its cloak of bravado and set a scene that’s altogether more relaxed. Noted as the band’s ‘WhatsApp Anthem’, the track’s lyrics tell a story of serotonin-rushing instant messaging and chasing a source of infatuation into the night via the screen of a smartphone. If that was the sound of tension on the dancefloor, Red Rum Club are now swilling a strong, short drink in the chill out room.

The Hollow Sessions will be released digitally on Fri 30 April 2021, with the band promising more surprises and announcements on new music in the very near future.

Fran Doran, the band’s front man, says: “The lyric ‘the ticks turn blue’ gives the most obvious indication as to what ‘The Elevation’ is all about – waiting, often pathetically, for a sign that your message has been read and your emotions hanging on that outcome. It’s been a real treat for us to go back to this song, and the others, to give the words and core of the tune air to breathe.”

Having made their name on stage, including their legendary, headline crowd-stealing performance at Glastonbury in 2019, the absence of gigs for the past year has been particularly painful for Red Rum Club. Positive to a fault and to the bitter end, the band looks ahead to a heavy schedule of live engagements from August onwards. The full run of Red Rum Club dates for 2021 are as follows:

Parallells unveil ‘Blooming Flower’ on Sapiens alongside BLOND:ISH and Whitesquare remixes

Agoria’s cultured Sapiens imprint is fast approaching its 50th release, but before we start popping bottles and celebrating their momentous golden anniversary, let’s first take a moment to absorb this stunning offering by label regulars Parallells.

Due for release on April 16th, the 3-track EP consists of a brand new fully acoustic version of Parallells and Abundance’ hit “Blooming Flower”, sat snugly alongside two decidedly non-acoustic remixes by Blond:Ish and Whitesquare.

Acoustic arrangements are no stranger to classically trained jazz musicians and brothers Thomas and Julien de Bie, aka Parallells, whose new take on “Blooming Flower – this time recorded with a 7-piece band – finds them rewriting themselves in new and organic ways :

“With this fully acoustic version of “Blooming Flower”, we wanted to express a new world; a world where the wind blows a burst of consciousness, where the whole planet fills its lungs, breathing slowly, intentionally. An orchestration of peaceful systems, offering harmonious consumption and essential realizations for healthy advancements of life. It’s the time of blossom. The time for a regenerated world.”

The two brothers of Dutch origin grew up influenced by jazz and classical music – and after having travelled the world enriching themselves in different cultures and sounds, are now settled in Amsterdam, where they run their label and studio of the same name, “Klassified”, combining their individual characters and unique closeness with a shared love of creation and composition, always in true symbiosis.

The choice of Blond:Ish as a remixer came naturally. Canadian-born, Barcelona-based Vivie-Ann Bakos – one part acclaimed electronic artist with key credits on labels such as Kompakt and Get Physical Music; the other eco-warrior and environmental activist – is also the leading force behind ByeByePlastic, an initiative aimed at wiping out single-use plastic in the music industry. Her fantastic remix instils a fresh heartbeat and energy to the original, guaranteed to uplift any dance floor to an ecstatic level.

Rounding off the package is Italian Whitesquare, admired by Parallells for his superb releases on the likes of his own Whitesquare Series as well as Manfredi Romano’s Life And Death. Whitesquare manages to give a whole new perspective to ‘Blooming Flower,’ bringing depth and profoundness to the original’s lush vocals and melodies.

CHVRCHES RELEASE NEW SINGLE ‘HE SAID SHE SAID’

by the partae April 20, 2021
written by the partae
CHVRCHES today release their new single ‘He Said She Said’, available to stream and download now – listen here. Recorded almost entirely remotely on two different sides of the Atlantic, the song arrives after premiering as Annie Mac’s Hottest Record on BBC Radio 1, three years on from CHVRCHES’ acclaimed third album Love Is Dead.

“Like everyone, I’ve had a lot of time to think and reflect over the past year; to examine experiences I had previously glossed over or deeply buried. I feel like I have spent a lot of my life (personally and professionally) performing the uncomfortable balancing act that is expected of women and it gets more confusing and exhausting the older I get,” explains CHVRCHES’ frontwoman Mayberry of ‘He Said She Said’.

“Be successful but only in the way we want you to be. Speak up for yourself but not so loudly that you steal men’s thunder. Be attractive but only for the benefit of men, and certainly don’t be vain. Strive to be The Hot Sad Girl but don’t actually be sad in a way that’s inconvenient for anyone. Be smart but not smart enough to ask for more than what you’re being given.”

Mayberry continues: “‘He Said She Said’ is my way of reckoning with things I’ve accepted that I know I shouldn’t have. Things I pretended weren’t damaging to me. It was the first song we wrote when we started back up, and the opening line (“He said, You bore me to death”) was the first lyric that came out. All the verse lines are tongue-in-cheek or paraphrased versions of things that have actually been said to me by men in my life. Being a woman is f**king exhausting and it felt better to scream it into a pop song than scream it into the void. After the past year, I think we can all relate to feeling like we’re losing our minds.”

CHVRCHES are Lauren Mayberry, Iain Cook and Martin Doherty. Since emerging in 2013 with their breakthrough album The Bones Of What You Believe, the band have always projected an insularity and a left-of-the-middle approach, historically focusing on self-producing their work to find their unique balance between the dark and the light; between alternative and pop.

After self-writing-and-producing their first two albums, The Bones Of What You Believe and its 2015 follow-up, Every Open Eye, the band opened up the process on their 2018 offering, Love Is Dead, welcoming outside influence in the form of GRAMMY Producer of the Year Greg Kurstin. The band toured extensively until the end of 2019, returning home with the intent of going back to their insular beginnings to make new music.

A few months later, with the world in the grips of the pandemic, their plans changed – CHVRCHES ended up separated by the Atlantic Ocean, Mayberry and Doherty self-isolating in Los Angeles, Cook in Glasgow. They had to find a way to create almost entirely separately from one another. Through video calls and audio sharing programmes, the band began crafting something unique and special, but inherently CHVRCHES. ‘He Said She Said’ is the first fruits of their labour.

THE MURLOCS ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM ‘BITTERSWEET DEMONS’ – OUT 25TH JUNE 2021 FIRST TRACK AND VIDEO ‘FRANCESCA’ OUT NOW

by the partae April 20, 2021
written by the partae

The Murlocs have this morning announced details of their new album, Bittersweet Demons, to be released June 25th on Flightless Records. Today’s news comes with the first track – and a new video – from the exhilarating rock band.

‘Francesca’ was written as a rip-roaring celebration of the rejuvenated life of frontman Ambrose Kenny-Smith’s mom. With music written by Murlocs’ keyboard and guitarist Tim Karmouche, Ambrose says of the lyrics,“The song is about my mother and how she had been lost for love since the separation from my father when I was 10. In the last year and a half or so she’s found love again, with a very close family friend of ours, someone who has always been a godfather and mentor to me in many ways. This has changed her spirit immensely for the better. You can really see the pop in her step as this enormous weight has been lifted off her shoulders.”

WATCH HERE.

STREAM HERE.

Citing some of his favourite songs as being odes to impressive women – like Van Morrison’s ‘Gloria’ – Ambrose explains, “Francesca is my mother’s middle name and I’ve always loved it so much.” Of turning his songwriting lens to his mother, and celebrating her rediscovered joie de vivre, he adds,“It’s probably the most positive, feel-good song we’ve ever done. It’s also the closest we’ve ever come to having an 80’s phase.”

Directed by Alex McLaren, the ‘Francesca’ video was shot at the end of April 2020, when Melbourne was coming out of one of its first short Covid lockdown periods and restrictions had eased for a short period of time. The band and director quickly jumped on the opportunity to shoot while they had the chance.

Says Ambrose, “I remembered being at a festival and bumping into our longtime video-clip collaborator and friend, Alex Mclaren. I had brought him back to our campsite and he played the song ‘I Love LA’ by Randy Newman which ultimately brought the tents down and got the party started.” Newman’s 1983 classic soft top music video informed ‘Francesca’, with the car footage being shot along Ivanhoe Boulevard in Melbourne where Ambrose’s mom grew up.

The theme of celebrating loved ones continues on the album, which is equal parts character study and adoring homage. With Bittersweet Demons The Murlocs share a collection of songs reflecting on the people who leave a profound imprint on their lives, the saviours and hell raisers and assorted other mystifying characters. The most personal and boldly confident work yet, the album sets that storytelling to 11 infectious tracks written mostly on piano, lending a greater emotional intensity to the band’s restless and radiant brand of garage-rock. What emerges is a beautifully complex body of work, one that shines a light on the fragilities of human nature while inducing the glorious head rush that accompanies any Murlocs outing.

With their lineup including two members of the globally beloved King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard (Kenny-Smith and bassist Cook Craig), The Murlocs recorded at Button Pushers Studio in Melbourne with producer Tim Dunn, dreaming up a prismatic sound that pinballs from sunshine-pop to blues-punk to wide-eyed psychedelia. Naming John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band and Harry Nilsson’s Lennon-produced Pussy Cats among their key reference points, the band adorned their songs with many unexpected details: woozy Wurlitzer melodies, Brian May-esque guitar harmonies, playful atmospheric elements like the whoosh of summer rain, caught by a microphone dragged into the street mid-storm. The result is an album both exuberant and heavy-hearted, a dynamic that wholly fulfils Kenny-Smith’s mission of “always aspiring to write songs that have a bit of twisted positivity to them.”

The Murlocs hope to have some Australian touring plans to share sooner rather than later. In the meantime, we can promise that Bittersweet Demons is a dizzying delight of cracking songs, all set to provide some superior sonic sparkle for each listener.

FULL BIO HERE.

The Murlocs are: Matt Blach (drums, vocals), Cook Craig (bass guitar), Tim Karmouche (keyboards, guitar, vocals), Ambrose Kenny-Smith (vocals, harmonica, guitar) and Cal Shortal (guitar).

How long have Co-Accused been making records together for?  We’ve been producing together for about 5 years. What is your creative process like?  We love to jam on our synths with some basic beats and build from there. Our current set up is the Bass Station II, Minilogue, Micro Korg, TR-8 and the TT-303 Bass Bot. We enjoy using hardware as it’s more hands on approach and have fun twiddling knobs to create our sound. What labels inspire you?  Cultivated Electronics, Soma, UR, Brokntoys, R&S, Gigolo, Bek Audio, Bass Agenda, Rotation and Mechatronica have been a big influence.  Once the world can dance together again, where are you each most excited to play?  We’re buzzing to get back to our residency in Club 69. It’s a proper underground club and the vibe is always amazing! We’ve also got the Riverside Festival in Glasgow to look forward to in September. Yasss :) As stalwarts of Scotland’s underground electronic music scene, what artist are you most excited about right now?  Fear-E is a wicked producer and DJ. We love his sound and there’s always a few of his tunes in our playlist.  What can we expect next from Co-Accused Records?  All going well, A VA compilation of Electro & Techno from established Artists and unknown producers who we think are wicked.  You can connect with them on Facebook and check out their latest mix ‘Sonic Assault’ to celebrate their new label news here.

SODA STATE – ‘PORTAL’ E.P.

STREAM ‘PORTAL’ EP HERE

Soda State are the contemporary dance music duo consisting of Mike “M” Ridley and Sam Tracie, both part human, part digital avatar and together they bring you their debut E.P. ‘Portal’ on Potion Records.

On a mission to share their story about the utopian world ‘Soda State’. It is a mysterious destination that exists in space and time and can only be accessed through the right combination of 1’s and 0’s when producing their unique music. Once they hit the right sequence they have the key to enter a portal and enjoy a place of pure euphoric escapism.

Following on from their first releases ‘The Look’, ‘Midnight’ and ‘Way To Go’, they now release the final singles to complete their debut E.P. package with ‘Gold’ and E.P. title track ‘Portal’.

‘Gold’ provides a refreshing dose of their now signature sound; 80s synth stabs, big retro drums and contemporary pop vocals, layered with irresistible basslines and blissful melodies. E.P signature track ‘Portal’ is an instrumental, with darker tones, atmospheric, delivering big synth lines and packed with their signature retro style, a release that would not sound out of place on 80s TV series Stranger Things.

“We’re super excited to finally release our debut EP! For us it’s an important step representing our journey so far. It was making our first record, The Look, that opened the portal and took us to Soda State and since then,  Midnight, Way To Go and now Gold have taken us back. The EP is a celebration of escapism, nostalgia and new beginnings, encapsulated by lead single Gold ; the euphoria from a new experience that we don’t want to let go of. We can’t wait to share it with the world… “
Soda State.

For those just discovering their fascinating story… In late 2019, M and Tracie are in their garage recording studio in London. Using their laptops, classic analogue synths and an array of gadgets they’ve wired themselves, they stumble on a sound, a combination of 0’s and 1’s in digital code that unexpectedly opens an interdimensional portal, transporting them to an alternate reality: the Soda State.

Transformed into digital versions of themselves, M and Tracie find themselves in a utopian world. Euphoric and intoxicating feeling both nostalgic and brand new – like nothing they’ve experienced before. Immediately hooked, they vow never to leave this paradise.

Before long, they find themselves tumbling through the portal again, away from Soda State. Re-entering the human world in their digital forms. Hypnotized by what they’ve experienced, they can’t rest until they find their way back. Now getting to grips with life in the real world as digital avatars, the friends are on a musical journey to rediscover the sound that will open the portal once more.

Soda State come to us with fascinating and highly creative imagery, they are also lovers of all things retro, think video games, fashion and of course, music. The single release comes equipped with an original video bursting with nostalgic childhood happy triggers and an alternative ‘Club Soda’ Mix primed for when we finally return to the dancefloor.

carolesdaughter Unveils New Single & Video ‘Trailer Trash’. Follows Massive Success Of ‘violent’ With Over 230 Million Streams

Rising artist carolesdaughter returns with her new single, Trailer Trash arriving today via Sony Music Australia / Arista Records. The track is paired with a striking music video shot in a deserted area in California and directed by Neta Ben Ezra. It brings to life an abandoned trailer park with Ozark meets The Walking Dead influences. carolesdaughter’s eye-catching look for the video was made possible by makeup artist Jessie Edelstein, with styling by carolesdaughter herself. Trailer Trash marks the up-and-comer’s first official release of 2021.

LISTEN TO TRAILER TRASH HERE

carolesdaughter says, “I wrote trailer trash 2 years ago when I was in rehab. The song is about accepting the unique and sometimes trashy parts of you. The video was inspired by Bombay beach and the art there, I wanted to create my own world where I could do anything I wanted.”

carolesdaughter aka Thea Taylor has already struck a chord. After buzzing with previous releases, cold bathroom floor and my mother wants me dead, carolesdaughter wrote viral success violent over a somber beat laden with 808s and creaky acoustic guitar. She uploaded it to Soundcloud, and it quickly racked up two million streams. Now, the track has over 230 million streams across all platforms.

about carolesdaughter:
carolesdaughter transmutes turbulence into strangely soothing alternative pop anthems awash in lo-fi glitch, bedroom acoustics, and gutter goth elegance. Like a fairy tale heroine with facial piercings and D.I.Y. spikes affixed to her shoes, the 18-year-old Southern California singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist born Thea Taylor immediately captivates without fear or filter. An outsider since birth, she grew up as one of 10 kids in a strict Mormon household. After seeing a tattoo of the iconic logo, she researched Black Flag online and unlocked the worlds of punk, hardcore, and goth. Bouncing between five different high schools, she started doing drugs, falling down a rabbit hole and taking multiple trips to rehab. On the last trip, she made a promise to pursue music upon returning home and ended up making major waves with the single violent. Amassing millions of streams independently and landing a deal with Arista Records, carolesdaughter makes an immediate connection on a series of singles and her forthcoming 2021 debut.

HEY BABY! RELEASE NEW SINGLE ‘WALKING HOME’

Listen/Buy ‘Walking Home’ HERE
HEY BABY! alternative/surf/punk band from Brisbane, Australia  have just released their new single ‘Walking Home’ via Riot Records (part of the Golden Robot Global Entertainment Group), available now on all digital platforms.

‘Walking Home’ is a sonic punk anthem about bumping into your ex. In four and a half minutes the listener will ride a wave of anger, bitterness, and cynicism, peppered with desire and lost love. The single is backed by blistering guitars, wild drum fills that impossibly stay in time, and supersonic soundscapes that layer upon themselves to create gooey waves of punk rock goodness.

HEY BABY! are known for their fast, jangly, energetic tunes and highly entertaining live show.
ABOUT HEY BABY!

Hey Baby! began eight years ago when 16-year-old Kacper Majchrowski first learnt how to record his musings on a computer, using a simple drum machine and running guitars and basses through a preamp.

When Kacper made the move from Sydney to Brisbane he met drummer Jaeger Brodie while jamming at a house party, bonding over similar music tastes. This later inspired the name of the band’s debut EP, Couch House, after the name of the hang out spot.

Wanting to form a band, they put a call out on the Internet for another guitarist, which was answered by local shredder Sam Wilson – who impressed the pair with her lightning fretwork.

After losing their bass player to bigger and better things, the band enlisted Callum Young, the guitarist of Jaeger’s other band ‘The Jumpkicks to play bass and the quartet launched straight into recording their sophomore EP.

Since releasing their debut single ‘1800-WEED’ the band have toured and lit up the stage with the likes of Press Club, Crocodylus, The Pretty Littles, Coolboys and the Frontman, Totty, The Sleepyheads, Dear Seattle and more.

Gordi Releases Refracted Video, Announces Refracted: Live At Phoenix Central Park EP + Performing This Weekend On Music From The Home Front

VIDEO: ‘Refracted’ by Gordi
A stunning collaboration between Gordi, Judith Neilson’s Phoenix Central Park venue and Sydney production team VERSUS, ‘Refracted’ is set inside the incomparable new space in Sydney’s inner city and showcases one of Gordi’s most artistic and moving performances to date. The alluring act is further magnified by the incredible architecture of the venue that contextualises the performances.

The ‘Refracted’ video – a unique medley of Our Two Skins songs ‘Extraordinary Life’ and ‘Volcanic’ – accompanies the announcement of a full EP of live songs from Gordi’s intimate performances there last month. Titled Refracted: Live at Phoenix Central Park, the EP will be released next month.

Gordi’s glorious second album Our Two Skins was unveiled in June last year and was warmly embraced by critics and fans, debuting into the Top 20 of the ARIA Albums Chart. Our Two Skins was nominated for an ARIA Award and two J Awards – recognition of the depth, intricacy and beauty of the album. During a chaotic 2020, Payten also balanced work as a doctor, assisting with under-staffed local hospitals in Melbourne during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. She performed a debut, globally broadcast show at the Sydney Opera House and launched her very own VR immersive album experience titled Buried City.

This year, Gordi was finally able to tour Our Two Skins around the country. She also released the Our Two Skins (Remixed) EP, delivered an inspirational keynote address at the One of One Breakfast for International Women’s Day in March, and recently collaborated with fellow singer-songwriter Alex Lahey on ‘Dino’s’, which can currently be heard on triple j. Gordi will appear alongside a number of local artists at Music From The Home Front on ANZAC Day Eve (Sat 24 Apr) in Melbourne. The concert will be broadcast at 7.30 on Channel 9 and live-streamed on 9Now and YouTube.

Where are you currently based? I was originally raised in the UK in East London but since moving to Australia I have been based on the north side of Sydney. How did you first start playing music? I first started playing music when I picked up the guitar at nine years old, and from there began rapping and producing as I got older. What's been happening recently? I've been working hard at music! I didn't release as much music as I wanted to last year so in 2021 my goal is to drop heaps of content, so I've had my head down and have been focused on writing and recording. Your new single 'Go Up' is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting? 'Go Up' was influenced heavily by the new wave of afrobeat music coming from the UK. I wanted to tap into this vibe as I thought it was a relatively unexplored genre in the Australian Hip Hop scene that I am a massive fan of.  How did you go about writing 'Go Up'? The writing process for 'Go Up' was very smooth and effortless. The lyrics and melody for the hook just kind of came to me randomly one day while I was listening to beats in the studio. From there I wrote the verses for the track, trying not to overthink anything and let my ideas flow as naturally as possible, which I think is reflected in the laid-back and smooth style of the song.  Where and when did you record/produce/master and who with? I recorded the track spontaneously one night in my home studio when I caught a vibe with some friends. I mix and master my own music so this was also all done in the home studio. What programs/equipment did you use? I use Logic Pro X to record, mix and master and I used the Neumann TLM102 microphone to capture the vocals. How did you approach the recording process? I tried to loosen up with the recording process for this song. I didn't overthink anything and tried to let it flow as naturally as possible, which I think reflected in the loose and laid back style of the track. How did the concept for the music video come about? The concept for the music video was a combined effort by myself and my videographer Connor Neil. We wanted to come up with an idea that was culturally relevant while still funny, so we eventually decided on going with the theme that you see in the final video with me and the gang clashing against the COVID marshalls. Who did you work with during the creation of the music video? I worked with my videographer and close friend Connor Neil during the creation of the music video. We have collaborated together in the past on other music videos and it's always a great time working with him, he's one of the best and most unique videographers in Sydney! Where and when did you film and how was the experience? We filmed the video roughly two months ago at various spots in our local area. It was a great experience, its always a fun time working with Connor and we captured some great energy with the boys during the shoot. What's your opinion of the current state of Australian Hip Hop and how has it evolved? I've been a fan of Australian Hip Hop for over a decade and I'm very proud of the current state of the scene. It has been so rewarding to watch the scene grow and expand over the years and I'm very eager to see how it evolves going forward. What do you like to do away from music? I spend most of my time working on music, however outside of this I do have a couple hobbies. I enjoy going to gym, kicking back with the bro's, spending time with the fam and playing video games if anyone wants the smoke! Who are you listening to at the moment? I'm listening to a lot of Australian and UK artists at the moment. Some of my current favourites are Chillinit, M1llionz, Lisi and AJ Tracey. What's planned for 2021? Takeover is planned for 2021! I'm extremely motivated to keep releasing regular content in the form of new music and videos throughout the rest of the year. Favourite food and place to hangout? My favourite food varies from day-to-day but I'm a sucker for some good fried chicken. My favourite place to hang out is in my home studio where I can work on music and chill out with my friends. LUCA BRASI GET SERIOUS ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH WITH NEW LYRIC VIDEO AND COLLABORATION WITH ‘SPEAK UP! STAY CHATTY!’ TYLER RICHARDSON FEATURES IN STAY CHATTY’S ‘STORIES WORTH SHARING’ SERIES

written by the partae

Tassie legends Luca Brasi shine the spotlight on mental health in a stark new lyric video for ‘The Truth’, and collaboration with mental health and suicide prevention charity SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY!.

Luca Brasi frontman Tyler Richardson has bravely stepped up to talk about his personal experiences with mental ill health and the ways in which he is able to move through it in a new video for Stay ChatTY’s ‘Stories Worth Sharing‘ series.

“I’ve spent a lot of my adult years in and out of cycles of loss and of grief.” explains Richardson “I’m even writing these words on the anniversary of a dear friend’s loss; unfortunately I often feel numb on days like these—I’ve had a lot of them. What I don’t want is any more of them, any more days where I have to go and face the family and friends of another lost friend. Any more days of families losing loved ones, of partners losing partners, of parents losing children. We’ve been lucky enough to make connections through this band that I could never have foreseen, this is what I’ll take away from Luca Brasi overall; that I got to somehow touch the lives of others through music in a positive way.”

Richardson’s ‘Stories Worth Sharing’ video coincides with the release of a new lyric video for ‘The Truth’. Lifted from Luca Brasi’s new album Everything is Tenuous, ‘The Truth’ sees frontman Tyler Richardson deliver his most emotive and soul bearing lyrics to-date. The song is an emotionally raw and stirring ode to the themes of mental health, suicide prevention, grief and loss.

“‘The Truth’ is about how hopeless I feel during all this loss.” says Richardson “It’s a hope that this song helps those listening feel less like an island, and that others feel what you have felt/are feeling. You are not alone, I can promise you that.”

To further celebrate the important work that SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY does, the band have also launched of an exclusive new Luca Brasi t-shirt design, with 100% of profits from all sales donated directly to the charity.

“Organisations like SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY are so important in the space of mental health awareness. We are incredibly lucky to have these people creating awareness about the importance of speaking up and seeking support.”

A limited run of this special design is available now via the band’s merch store.
artistfirst.com.au/collections/luca-brasi

Luca Brasi soared to new heights with their fifth album, Everything is Tenuous. Propelled by the inactivity of COVID lockdown and encouraged by friends, the four-piece took their first foray into self-recording. After buying a bunch of gear and teaching themselves how to use it, Luca Brasi also self-produced the album with a little help from Darren Cordeux (Kisschasy) before shipping it off to the mainland to be mixed by Grammy-nominated engineer Andrei Eremin (Tash Sultana/Chet Faker). Upon its release, Everything is Tenuous landed at #7 on the ARIA Album Chart, scoring the band their highest chart debut yet.

Empowered by their time at the helm, Luca Brasi have written their most potent songs to date. Already spawning three other beautiful singles in ‘Tangled; Content’, ‘This Selfish Love’ and ‘Dying To Feel Alive’, Everything is Tenuous is trademark Luca Brasi – sweetly melodic with a lyrical undertone of melancholia as the band wrestles with losing mates, regret and burnout while also serving a reminder that life is fragile and fleeting, so take a moment to appreciate what matters.

In celebration of her current single ‘Never Gonna Be The Same’ and off the back of a sold out, four date Melbourne residency at the Northcote Social Club, Mia Wray has announced her first headline East Coast tour, where she’ll play to fans in Brisbane at Black Bear Lodge (Wed 26 May), Sydney at The Lansdowne (Wed 2 June) and Melbourne at The Corner Hotel (Thurs 17 June).

The Melbourne artist has been causing a buzz with her hugely powerful live show. As well as her own dates, Mia has joined The Rubens for select shows on their national 0202 Album tour, so far playing to fans across QLD and NSW, with shows across VIC, TAS and ACT still to come. This Wednesday Mia will also be supporting The Teskey Brothers at their sold-out shows at The Forum, ahead of taking the stage at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl this Saturday for a live performance as part of Music From The Home Front.

The run of shows comes off the back of an incredible response to her current single ‘Never Gonna Be The Same’, a commanding anthem that sees Mia continue to lean into her own power. The single has been embraced by the likes of triple j, triple j unearthed (named as one of the station’s 10 artists to watch in 2021), HIT Network, Music Feeds, Rolling Stone, NME & more. ‘Never Gonna Be The Same’ followed ‘Work For Me’, one of the most exciting debuts of 2020, which was added straight to full triple j rotation, over 10 Spotify editorial playlists, Apple Music support including a spin and plug by Elton John on his Beats 1 radio show, an acappella performance of Work For Me on ABC’s The Sound and championed across the likes of NME, Rolling Stone, Pilerats and more.
