FKA TWIGS, HEADIE ONE & FRED AGAIN.. Collaborate on ‘Don’t Judge Me’ Video by Emmanuel Adjei, Supported by FARFETCH

by the partae January 27, 2021
written by the partae

Three of the UK’s most influential and groundbreaking artists FKA twigs, Headie One and Fred again.. have come together on new single ‘Don’t Judge Me’. Originally featuring as an interlude on Headie and Fred’s GANG mixtape, this expanded sequel is accompanied by a video from acclaimed director Emmanuel Adjei, renowned for his work with the likes of Beyonce, Madonna and Sevdalisa among others.

In keeping with the song itself, the ‘Don’t Judge Me’ video – supported by global fashion platform FARFETCH – is a powerful comment on the experience of being black and British in the world today. It features FKA twigs and Headie One alongside a cast that includes poet and Black Lives Matter activist Solomon O.b, writer Reni Eddo-Lodge, model and activist Kukua Williams, musician and poet Benjamin Zephaniah, dancer and singer Lisa Elde, mental health advocate Nicole Crentsil, fitness expert and trainer Efua Baker, footballer Mahlon Romeo, activist and model Munroe Bergdorf, model Danto Earth and broadcaster Clara Amfo. Although every individual’s experience is different, all share a struggle against an invisible oppressor – propagated by cultural, systemic and structural biases – that is often hard to see and even harder to overcome. In the video, FKA twigs is styled in all Black designers, available via FARFETCH.

‘Don’t Judge Me’ was premiered tonight by London’s hugely influential No Signal, with twigs and Emmanuel Adjei guesting on the station during a one-hour takeover. For further information head HERE.

Talking about the video, director Emmanuel Adjei says:

“THE INVISIBLE OPPRESSOR – From someone’s appearance, we are unable to judge whether a person discriminates over color, sex, religion, or gender. The oppressors within the people surrounding us, most often remain invisible until their abuse against others is revealed. This is one of the reasons why, for generations, discrimination is so hard to fight. Who must the victim fight against if it can’t identify the perpetrator?

In this audio-visual document we get to witness artists FKA Twigs and Headie One, amongst other Black British influentials, fighting against invisible forces of judgement and oppression. Having the enormous Victorian-inspired fountain ‘Fons Americanus’ by visual artist Kara Walker – depicting the historical, sorrowful story of slavery and colonization – as our setting, and particularly as the spirit of the film, this important monument creates another layer of depth and meaning to an invisible yet shared history.”

About FKA twigs:

Throughout her career, including three EPs (EP1, EP2 and M3LL155X), her Mercury Prize and Brit Award-nominated debut album LP1, and latest release MAGDALENE, FKA twigs has established herself as one of the most innovative artists, performers, producers, and directors of her generation. MAGDALENE was named one of the best albums of 2019 by outlets including NPR, The Guardian, The New Yorker, Billboard, Complex, Crack, Loud & Quiet, PAPER, TIME, USA Today and Vice, among others, and received a GRAMMY Award nomination for “cellophane” as best music video. Pitchfork declared, “with limitlessly innovative songwriting and production, the cinema of twigs’ music has never been more affecting. MAGDALENE is not just on the vanguard of pop, it’s in a breathtaking class of its own.”

FKA twigs has taken a complete approach to every facet of her art and career, and has been honoured with a Webby Special Achievement Award for her “incredible contributions to digital culture and for constantly using the internet to create and distribute experimental art.”  She’s directed and starred in campaigns for Nike, Google Glass, Calvin Klein and Apple, and made her big screen debut in Honey Boy. Most recently FKA twigs collaborated with Hiro Murai on her acclaimed “Sad Day” video.

About Headie One:

Headie One has cemented himself as one of Britain’s leading rappers and most formidable talents. Widely recognised as ‘The King of Drill’, Headie’s success has seen the grassroots subgenre rise from the underground to become one of the most applauded scenes in contemporary music.

Since arriving onto the scene in 2014, he has released a number of seminal projects; ‘Headz or Tails’, ‘Drillers & Trappers’ and last year’s ‘Music X Road’ which became the first Drill project to reach the Top 5 on the UK Albums Chart.

April 2020 saw the release of ‘GANG’. his collaborative project with Fred again.. The experimental project propelled Headie into spaces previously foreign for a drill artist, featuring collaborations with FKA twigs, Sampha, Brian Eno and Jamie xx.

His long-awaited official debut album ‘Edna’ was the culmination of a steady progression that has seen Headie One amass over 100 million global streams and release multiple 10 singles with ‘18Hunna’ with Dave, ‘Only You Freestyle’ featuring Drake and ‘Ain’t It Different’ with Stormzy and AJ Tracey.

Upon its release, the project was immediately critically acclaimed, receiving praise from The Independent, The Times, The Guardian, The Telegraph, NME, CLASH, The Face and many more.

About Fred again..:

As an acclaimed solo artist and producer, Fred again.. has been behind some of the biggest crossover songs in recent years. In 2020, he released GANG, his collaborative artist project with Headie One. It was the culmination of months of collaboration in the studio between the two artists, who first struck up a close friendship in 2019. The sound of two worlds coming together, the project featured some of the UK’s most exciting and innovative artists including FKA twigs, Jamie xx, Sampha and Berwyn.

Fred has firmly established himself as an artist, releasing a run of acclaimed  solo tracks described as “Actual Life”; a signature sound that sees him building tracks around vocals uncovered from the unlikeliest of sources; from obscure YouTube clips to personal FaceTime conversations, random Instagram accounts and iPhone video footage of half-remembered nights out. Rather than creating songs about experiences, the music is actually made out of those experiences. The end results shift between dancefloor-inspired euphoria and yearning melancholy, with Mixmag exclaiming “It’s the search for authenticity that makes Fred again.. so exciting – and makes us reckon he could be the real deal.” and Pigeons and Planes adding ““Fred again.. is a British artist taking a unique approach to his mesmerizing dance tracks”.

Straddling the underground and mainstream with ease, the London-based,  BRIT Award winning producer also recently added his production skills to tracks as diverse as Stormzy, Ed Sheeran and Burna Boys number one hit “Own It”, Headie One, AJ Tracey and Stormzy’s “Aint It Different” and “Lifetime” the acclaimed debut solo single from The xx’s Romy.

In line with the success of his prior work, his distinct visuals for Madonna’s Dark Ballet (2019), and Batuka (2019), has been praised by the likes of The New York Times, Rolling Stone, The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, The Guardian, Pitchfork, Dazed, NME, and Billboard.

THE ASTON SHUFFLE PUSH THE TEMPO WITH THEIR REMIX OF TORREN FOOT’S ‘MORE LIFE’

written by the partae

The Aston Shuffle takes Torren Foot’s ‘More Life (feat. Tinie Tempah & L Devine)’ for a bassline-driven house spin with their remix of one of the biggest tracks of 2020. Taking an already head-banging tune and turning it up a notch, the Australian electronic duo utilise the hip-hop vocal stylings on Tinie and push the tempo with powerful synths while amplifying the funky sax elements.

Vance Musgrove and Mikah Freeman, the duo from Canberra, Australia that make up The Aston Shuffle have been mainstays in the Australian electronic scene for over a decade. With over 100 million streams across platforms, the duo has been entrusted to remix tracks by the likes of LSD (Labrinth, Sia, Diplo), Tensnake, Chris Lake, Claude VonStroke, Dizzee Rascal, Dom Dolla, Green Velvet, PNAU, The Presets, and Sneaky Sound System, among others. The duo has shone a bright light on the Australian electronic scene on their weekly radio show on triple j the Friday Night Shuffle, and as such the respect they have garnered from the scene not just in Australia, but over the world makes them the perfect choice to push the boundaries even further on ‘More Life’.

‘More Life (feat. Tinie Tempah & L Devine) (The Aston Shuffle Remix)’ is out now via Sweat It Out.

PhaseOne releases new single ‘Enemy’ featuring Shane Told from Silverstein!

by the partae January 25, 2021
written by the partae

Aussie bass artist PhaseOne is back with a brand new collaboration – a new pop punk/dubstep banger entitled ‘Enemy’ – and it features vocals from the vocalist from Silverstein – Shane Told!

The track is available now on all good digital outlets through Disciple Records and can be pre-saved at linktr.ee/disciple. The video for the pop punk//emo/dubstep single features Shane Told performing the track (filmed in Toronto) with a storyline playing out between a couple on a Los Angeles beach, with the couple turning on each other through the clip.

PhaseOne rolled out the announcement for this new single on Wednesday, with a cross-posted trailer for the single alongside Silverstein and record label Disciple Records, with a massive response!

“It is such a dream come true for me to collaborate with Shane,” PhaseOne said. “To work with such a legend of the scene, who has been fronting Silverstein for 20 years now, was such a pleasure – and he absolutely killed it!”

PhaseOne is currently in his home country Australia (he was born in Sydney, NSW) playing some shows, but currently resides in Los Angeles, California. He will play two shows in Queensland, Australia in January – Saturday January 23 at Mackay’s McGuire’s Hotel and at Brisbane’s The Triffid on Monday January 25.

This isn’t PhaseOne’s first foray into having featured vocalists/musicians hand-picked from the world’s best heavy music acts – his previous album Transcendency can be purchased/streamed at https://disc.fanlink.to/transcendency and featured three cuts specifically for heavy music fans – one with Northlane, one with Periphery and one featuring Thy Art is Murder’s CJ McMahon!

Last year, Silverstein signed over to Australia’s UNFD record label, released their new album ‘A Beautiful Place to Drown’, and played at Unify Gathering in 2020.

PhaseOne’s new single ‘Enemy’ featuring Shane Told from Silverstein is out now – pre-save it at linktr.ee/disciple.

Guests include the likes of youth advocate & 2021 Youth Influencer Of The Year Yasmin Poole, Fluff skincare brand founder Erika Geraerts and the brains behind Bolster & Linktree Alex Zaccaria.

Formed by Torquay-based best mates Robbie & Lach as a lockdown project in April 2020, the Funny Business Podcast has climbed to nearly 80 full episodes and over 37,000 lifetime downloads in its debut 9 months.

Lead by its mission to speak to free thinkers, Funny Business invites business people, entrepreneurs, minds & makers from every industry to spill their story. Unpacking everything from the start up grind and personal performance to leadership, emotional intelligence and building community, the podcast already claims the likes of comedian Urzila Carlson, pastry king Adriano Zumbo, health guru Laura Henshaw, Violent Soho’s James Tidswell and sports legends including Mark Mathews, Paul Roos & Sir John Kirwan as guests.

Both Rob and Lach boast some serious clout where their own careers are concerned, with Rob a former AFL footballer turned business agility coach and Lach calling a Community Lead role in tech/design his most recent post. Outside of their day jobs, the friends explain that they first linked up in business together in 2017 with the launch of Australia’s first slides company Obie and Co.

“After two hectic years of hustling into retail stores, we both decided to sell the business on Facebook marketplace in 2019. We both made the move to Torquay after that and live around the corner from each other,” explains Bradford, adding that when lockdown took its hold last year the pair spent barely a week of thinking about the practicalities before launching Funny Business.

“We never intended the podcast to blow up as much as it has, but we’re so surprised and energised by the listeners and feedback we got early days we had no choice but to build this puppy out and make it the absolute best we can,” he says.

“There’s no set criteria for the types of guests we have come on the podcast. We just love chatting with interesting people and meeting them through other guests who’ve enjoyed their time with us. It’s all about connection and finding your purpose in a turbulent world.”

Junior Jack & Pat BDS deliver a cinematically futuristic, heroic music video for their melodic house heater ‘Tecky Dream’. Directed by Mike Anderson and Ryan Dickie, they create an analogue of the last year using video game engines and motion caption. Released in 2020 on Junior Jack & Pat BDS’ own Adesso Music imprint, ‘Tecky Dream’ instigates tension and rising energy by integrating slow building synths and elevating bass tones. The track has a rich, cinematic feel, driving intensity which is captured in the video set to be released today. Following a narrative of a hero in a relentless, escalating chase scene the video corresponds with the times we find ourselves in; charging forward, trying to stay alive and well, with ever-changing threats nipping at our heels. “The hero has a past, and the story has an ending, but for these four minutes, the intensity of the sequence is all that matters. “Finn Askew’s take on melody-rich hyperpop sees the Somerset-born songwriter finding a summer-washed timelessness that revels in youth and excitement”

One of the UK’s most exciting breaking artists Finn Askew shares his highly anticipated debut EP Peach alongside the visual for ‘Egotism‘. Listen and watch HERE.

Following his successful 2020 string of singles including ’Same Old Love‘, ’Peach‘ and the undeniable ’Roses‘ – his debut single which shot him out of the gate and now sits on an incredible 9.2 million views – Finn has not only been growing in the UK but after Taeyong from notorious KPOP group, NCT shared ‘Roses‘, saw him trend in Korea and pick up a dedicated following there that has propelled him globally and seen him establish himself on several Korean digital music charts. Creating undeniable earworms that transcend location and language and showcasing his versatile approach to pop music, Peach the EP does not disappoint in delivering an impressive debut with a song for everybody.

Tipped as a One To Watch for 2021 by The Line of Best Fit, the young Somerset artist’s, eclectic and varied range juxtaposes even the most melancholy lyrics with upbeat, heartwarming synths, guitar melodies, and enthusiasm, stretching way beyond Finn’s 19 years. Speaking on the ethos behind the EP, Finn remarks ”I wanted to create something that showed how creative I really am. I’m a kid from a small countryside town where there is no music scene at all but I’ve had so many musical influences, which has created my mad diverse music taste.”

With such oxymoronic content across the EP and with the chance to really show what he is about, Finn’s process has been freeing and has seen him – much like his career so far – carving his own path. Not only reveling in his strength to convey accomplished songwriting but to also show the mature vulnerability of an artist with years of graft under his belt.

Speaking on his creative process “It’s been sick having no one to tell me what direction to take, I’ve just been left to my own devices and I’m beyond thankful for that, it’s why my sound is so real. I wanted this EP to really capture me as an artist and what I can do. I can’t be put into one genre and that’s the beauty of it.” Says Finn.

Enveloping articulately the teenage angst of love, Finn continues to show his varied style, sound, and range which has impressed the likes of COLORS, Clash, Line of Best Fit, and Have You Heard and also has led to Finn being announced as a 2021 VEVO DSCVR One To Watch artist!

With his influences ranging from Nirvana and The Smiths to Frank Ocean and Travis Scott, Finn is a serendipitous amalgamation of creativity and talent. Naturally gifted and constantly absorbing elements from multiple sources, it was being born in a sleepy Somerset town that led him to big musical ambitions with a humble nature.

Crate digging through his Dad’s vinyl, Finn appreciated his upbringing but also knew he had bigger ambitions that would outgrow his location. Experimenting with the sounds he absorbed and instruments he picked up, he cast aside formal lessons to intuitively jam on the guitar and began writing songs while still in school.

Finn Askew encompasses the hard work, self-awareness, and drive of the DIY generation, who control TikTok trends, fight for social justice, and a deep longing but easy execution of equality amongst their peers, no matter gender, race, or sexuality. These characteristics blend with a deep soul embedded in his music that feels wiser beyond his years.

Finn Askew continues to impress and his Peach EP solidifies himself as one of the most exciting UK prospects this year.

“The next big thing out of Montreal”

Meet emerging Montreal hip-hop outfit Planet Giza, who today kick-off 2021 with new single ‘When The Moving Stops‘. Listen and watch HERE.

Co-produced with JMF, the track pairs punchy, bass-heavy production with slick, commanding vocals from the trio’s very own Tony Stone. ‘When The Moving Stops‘ is a smooth dose of classic hip-hop and is the lead single from their forthcoming EP release Don’t Throw Rocks At The Moon.

“This song represents doing things differently and still shining through it all (hence the sun reference),” the trio explains. “When all odds are against you that’s when it’s time to excel.”

The accompanying official video sees Planet Giza cruising around their hometown, with video director Guillaume Landry explaining that the video’s narrative “symbolises the opening of a new chapter for the group, in terms of both sound and visual representation.”

Comprising members Rami B, Tony Stone, and DoomX, Planet Giza is the genre-bending crew who reflect their multicultural background through a repertoire of diverse sounds. They attribute this versatility to the diverse community of Montreal, as well as their widely-varying musical influences.

Planet Giza launched their own radio show ‘Mellow Mellow Radio‘ in late 2020, with longtime collaborator KAYTRANADA making an interview appearance on the first episode. They also dropped their debut album Added Sugar in 2019, an acclaimed LP described by Hot New Hip Hop as “a timeless sound that you can listen to over and over.”

Their relationship with KAYTRANADA stems back to 2017 when they collaborated on ‘Domina‘ taken from their debut EP Zayad City, which led to KAYTRANADA contributing to their full-length 2019 project Added Sugar. Since the release of Added Sugar, Planet Giza has performed at Montreal’s Jazz Festival, collaborated with Mick Jenkins while also producing GoldLink’s ‘Ridd‘, which he performed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

‘When The Moving Stops‘ is demonstrative of a hip-hop outfit at the top of their game.

‘When The Moving Stops‘ is out now, buy/stream it here.

A ten-track blend of folk, pop, blues and jazz influences, the album showcases the strikingly poetic lyrics and inimitable sound that make Rosie one of Scotland’s most coveted talents.  Produced by Marc Pilley - ex-Hobotalk vocalist, composer and front man who is now releasing music under his own Arksong moniker. With a sound reminiscent of Billie Holiday, Alison Kraus, Patti Smith and Dory Previn, her music floats in the minds and hearts of fans long after listening. Live, Rosie has been performing for years. From Edinburgh’s renowned International Jazz and Blues Festival to Celtic Connections, to audiences in the UK and France. Throughout the pandemic Rosie has performed several online gigs and has hopes for performing live this year when gigs can return. Her journey toward music began with a career in art therapy. After achieving an A in Higher Art, Rosie studied art therapy for two years and was subsequently offered a job with Barnardo’s Skylight Project, working with children who had been victims of sexual abuse. Although she loved being able to help people through art, the job could be harrowing and Rosie found it difficult to switch off from it. To counteract this, she began to do more of something she loved: playing music. You can listen to the album here: http://bit.ly/3r57fZr and download the full press release, song stories, press shots and WAV of the forthcoming single ‘ Could Have Been' here: http://bit.ly/3mwxJzhwhich is out today. The single was inspired by a poem by Peter Roche titled Somewhere on the Way, Could Have Been is a heart-breaking account of love lost, and the hindsight that follows. It would be great if you could please include the Bandcamp link for the single which is out today: http://bit.ly/2Mbdw5Q Where are you currently based?  Edinburgh, Scotland. What inspired you to write your latest single, Could Have Been? This song was inspired by an inscription in a book of love poetry which read 'Happy Birthday, 1978. Love John. Xxx Could have been so good - (see Somewhere on the Way)'. Somewhere on the Way is a poem by Peter Roche and is a heartbreaking account of love, lost due to an inability to communicate his feelings, and of hindsight. The poem uses the phrase 'I wanted to say....' about several things and this, combined with the inscription and a new guitar part I had just developed, resulted in this song. A gift to a songwriter!! What’s your song writing process like?  Oh boy, that’s a hard one to answer.  Having been asked it many times though I have come to realise that where it starts is usually me noodling with the guitar, maybe learning some new skills/parts, and then playing about with this and ideas that are beginning to formulate in my brain.  Eventually, a song is born!! What’s behind the title of your forthcoming fourth album ‘Where Time Suspends’?  This album had a working title of Music is Sunshine for most of its life and it only changed on the night before the actual CDs were to be pressed!  I lay awake that night wondering if I’d called it the right thing, as the original title didn’t work with the cover art (a definite) and didn’t really give much of a clue about the content either or reflect the zeitgeist.  After much tossing and turning, the line ‘where time suspends’ from the song, Music is Sunshine, jumped into my head as being the absolutely correct name for the album as it leaves the listener with a sense of wondering where life will go next.  It felt very apt for the times we’re living in and also perfectly complemented the ambiguity of the artwork - in my opinion :). Can you tell us some more about the album’s production?  This, my fourth album, has been almost five years in the making and I was really enjoying the actual process of its development.  Several of the songs were brought to fulfilment using the process I’ve described above and, because this album wasn’t rushed at all, they developed in a very organic way.  The producer, Marc Pilley, and I have worked together on all four albums and we just thought we’d allow it to take its time and see where that led us.  We had a lot of fun and creative development in the course of the five years! The way we usually work is that Marc comes to my house, we have a chat and then he records ideas and songs that I’ve written.  He then takes that away and adds his musical parts to it.  All of the recording is normally done that way - my loft/studio is basically a recording studio  as well as my studio for making art.  We only had two songs left to finish when the pandemic struck and we were unable to meet up like this. After a few months of us not getting any work done on the album as we weren’t meeting up at all, I suggested that we could try to use my Tascam recorder as a means of me being able to send him really high-quality files.  After a little bit of trial and error we found that this works really well and were able to finish off at last :) What is behind the artwork for the album? The photo in the cover art is of a scene in France that I’d photographed many years ago and which I felt was incredibly atmospheric. It was always going to be the album cover as it’s one of my favourite photos and I love it as an image. How does Where Time Suspends sound compared to your previous releases? It’s so hard to be objective about this as it’s like asking about a favourite child, although I know that’s not quite what you’ve asked!  It sounds like a development in my work, like a mixture of songs and styles that, in some part reflect my inner world and personal experience but that will also (I hope) have resonance and connect with others who hear it. Musically it records my progress as a musician and songwriter and the work I’ve put into learning the craft of guitaring over the last few years.  For example, one of the songs, Choices, sprang from me having just learned the guitar part for the classic jazz song ‘My Funny Valentine’.  I loved the chord progression in that song (which is the same as Stairway to Heaven btw…) and wrote the song around some of these chords, which were new to me. It's definitely the best work I’ve done to date and I’ve also been told this by others who have heard it and who know my music. Why and when did you first start playing music? This is another long story….. Just over 20 years ago I worked as an art therapist in a children’s project dealing with children and youngsters who had experienced sexual abuse.  I found it very difficult to leave my work behind when I got home and my supervisor suggested that I took up something that would bring me joy and give me a better balance in my life.  She asked what that might be and I said I liked singing and sang all the time around the house.  She gave me contact details for a voice coach (who went on to become a friend) and the voice coach encouraged me to sing, to start my own band and to see where that would all take me.  I’d played guitar very badly since I was a teenager so I then decided to practice that properly too.  There’s a lot more to it than that but this was the origin of my musical life.   So I started off by playing other people’s music and then started writing my own songs a few years later and my first album, Lazy and Mellow, came out in 2009. Where are you most excited to play when live gigs return? I really enjoy playing small, intimate gigs where I can engage directly with the audience.  One of the gigs that was cancelled due to Covid was in the National Gallery of Scotland and that’s one that I really enjoy so that would be in the top three.  I can’t wait to get together with my band again as we had just really started to gig as a coherent band, playing my new songs as well as the older ones, when all of the restrictions happened.  We were looking forward to doing some house concerts too so these would be high on the list.  In addition to this, I usually do some petits concerts in France and that will be another thing to look forward to this year - fingers crossed!!  There may also be something in this year’s Edinburgh International Jazz and Blues Festival in the pipeline so I’ll wait to see if that happens as that’s a fun gig too. How do you spend your time when you’re not making music? I’m an artist, a dog owner and nature lover and have an allotment.  These things, together with my family, take up most of my days. Who are you listening to at the moment? I’m very much an old-fashioned music lover and my default musicians are Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Van Morrison, Paul Simon, David Bowie, Leonard Cohen, James Taylor, Joan Armatrading, k.d.lang, Nick Cave, Mary Gauthier and others of that ilk.  So, mostly singer-songwriters, although I do also love the blues, some jazz, and lots of rock music, including Thin Lizzy, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC etc.  Several of my friends are musicians too and I like to keep up with what they are doing.  Marc Pilley, my producer is a perfect example of that. He has produced a lot of music recently, since the pandemic started, under the name of Arksong.  Lovely stuff :)

Today, one of Canada’s top up-and-coming artists, Brandon Howard Roy, will be premiering his new single “The Fear.”  The track is from his highly anticipated new EP which is set to drop later in the year. Produced by Colin Buchanan (Paper Lions / Sorrey / KINLEY) at The Hill Sound Studio in Roy's hometown of Charlottetown PEI, "The Fear" is an indie pop gem that explores anxiety in all its forms.  "Anyone working on their mental health knows it’s never a linear path, and some days my fears feel like these ghosts that control every part of me," says Roy, "I wrote this song as a reminder that it’s ok to be scared sometimes, that growing up is hard, and that mistakes are gonna be made along the way." Originally from Montreal, Roy has always been involved in the arts, and his passion for the creative process has driven him to poetry, theatre, and (of course) music. After relocating to PEI in 2018, Roy found himself even more focused on music - and it was in 2019 that he fully dived in and had his first show,  and released his stunning first single “Little Reasons.” With word starting to spread, and with critics (and fans alike) being taken in my his pop charms - this is an artist (and a song) that you won’t want to miss.

On January 17th, the legendary Vancouver music man Stephen Hamm (aka The Theremin Man) released a new single of psychedelic electronica, featuring the tracks, ‘Listen to the Sound of the Sun’ and “Inner Voice’.  Fans can pick up the 45rpm 7” vinyl as well as the usual digital outlets. The focus track, “Listen to the Sound of the Sun,” tells the mesmerizing tale of a race of beings who look to the sun as their god only to discover that it is they who are the real gods. This groovy psychedelic freak-out features the theremin playing of Stephen Hamm, with Shawn Mrazek (Nardwuar and the Evaporators, Doers, Notes from the Underground) on drums and Elliot Langford (SSRIs, Rebel Spell, Freak Dream) on guitar. A seminal figure in Vancouver’s influential music scene, Hamm has played in a number of storied West Coast acts, including Nardwuar and the Evaporators, Canned Hamm, Slow and Tankhog.

His latest solo project focuses on the theremin, an esoteric instrument that is played without touch. Following the success of his well-received 2019 album, “Theremin Man,” this 7” delves even further into the creative with an adventurous odyssey into psychedelic electronic worlds. Combining his larger-than-life personality with the theremin and synthesizer during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown, Space Hamm takes you on a musical journey into new dimensions!
