GORGON CITY TEAM UP WITH CHICAGO’S DRAMA TO RELEASE ‘NOBODY’ THEIR FIRST NEW MUSIC OF 2020

by the partae April 4, 2020
written by the partae

VIRGIN EMI
GORGON CITY & DRAMA – ‘NOBODY’
OUT NOW

Following the success of their 2019 hit single ‘There For You’ in collaboration with US DJ producer MK amassing over 45 million global streams, Gorgon City are set to drop their first new music of 2020. Here they collaborate with Chicago soul / dance duo DRAMA bringing an emotive, beautiful and fluid house jam entitled ‘Nobody’.

With each release setting a new standard for Gorgon City, ‘Nobody’ is a deviation in sonic feel for them as producers and also for their own imprint Realm. ‘Nobody’ shows the acts varied and versatile production range, downtempo but retaining its energetic feel, with a soulful vocal at its core making it a standout and unique release.

Collaborators DRAMA are Ne’el Shehade and vocalist Via Rosa, a multicultural collaboration blurring the lines between R&B, Soul and Dance. The pair have self-released several EPs and have just released their debut album as well as previously working with Chance the Rapper and Kanye West. Matt & Kye (Gorgon City) discovered DRAMA and fell in love with their sound and Via Rosa‘s amazingly stirring vocal. They reached out and discovered the duo lived in Chicago where Kye is currently spending lots of time, and of course they had to get in the studio together. After a couple of days writing ideas, ‘Nobody’ was born, which Matt & Kye then produced in London.

‘Nobody’ also comes equipped with a new video involving a street dance interpretation of ‘West Side Story’, shot in DRAMA’s hometown of Chicago with a local street dance crew, paying homage to the city that inspired Gorgon City & Drama’s collaboration.

For Gorgon City their REALM releases came in thick and fast last year to include singles; ‘Lick Shot’, ‘Delicious’, ‘Elizabeth Street’ and ‘Roped In’. Further collaborations propelled the duo with US dance royalty Kaskade on ‘Go Slow’ reaching No.1 on the Billboard Dance Chart.

On top of a busy year of productions, Gorgon City had a packed touring schedule, the duo played out across the globe at festivals including Coachella, EDC Vegas, Israel’s Get Lost Festival as well as sold out UK shows at Printworks, Warehouse Project and Tobacco Dock,  in addition to dates all around Europe and the US.

With over 1.2 billion global streams to their name and over 8 million singles sold across their careers, Gorgon City are titans of making house music hits, with each release reaffirming their status.

LONDON, April 3, 2020 – After gaining great support for the track with New York rappers STVSH and Jay Critch, open-format DJ Cruz felt like the track had more to it. He hit up ANGELZ, who in his turn, transformed the track into a real tech house banger. DJ Cruz had already gained support from artists as Tiësto, Avicii and DJ Snake for his tracks in the past. LA-Based DJ and Producer ANGELZ got on board and put his touch to ‘Get A Bag’, creating a tech house version. The track starts off with a high-tempo tech house-beat and soon after introduces the chorus with its distinguishable melody into the mix. Even though the track finds it roots in the rather raw New York hip-hop, ANGELZ was able to balance the sounds and turn it into a tech-house track, without sacrificing the tracks melody and vocals. With ‘Get A Bag’, DJ Cruz made his mark on the NYC hip-hop scene, still having close ties to electronic music, the remix felt natural to Cruz. Besides the remix by ANGELZ, DJ Cruz also released a remix by Austin Marc, which leans more towards trap. One thing is for certain and confirmed by DJ Cruz himself, we’ll be hearing a lot more from him in 2020. Listen Now ABOUT DJ CRUZ From scratching vinyl in underground hip hop clubs at the age of 15, to playing the most exclusive parties and clubs world-wide. What started as a passion in the basement turned into an impressive journey with residencies in cities like Paris, London, Milan, NYC and Dubai, playing events as fashion weeks, Cannes film festival, Art Basel, grand prix celebrations on yachts in Monaco, open airs and festivals. Not only is DJ Cruz one of the most sought after open-format DJs in the game, his own music has gained support from the likes of Tiësto, DJ Snake, AVICII, renowned radio station HOT97 and many more. With many unreleased tracks on his mac, plans to further expand his brand and collaborations with other artists, there is a lot more to come this year! TWO MEN, ONE RV AND 2000 MILES OF DUST AND DRINKS ANDHIM PRESENTS… ‘MILES TO GO’ A ROAD MOVIE HUNTING THE AMERICAN DREAM FOR BEERS, BOOBS AND BURGERS

by the partae April 3, 2020
written by the partae

It was April 2017 and as the sun rose on the North American West Coast, it seemed something particularly outrageous would ensue on the beautiful coastline. Landing in San Diego, a pair synonymous with a thirst for life, German electronic duo and ‘Superhouse’ pioneers Andhim arrived to embark on their North American Tour, yet something different was afoot; they would travel for an entire 10 days, 2,000 miles in a 30ft RV, hunting the American dream for beers, boobs and burgers. Now bringing together a detailed and aptly humorous account of their travels, Andhim present their west side story tour diary and movie, ‘Miles To Go’.

“We rented this 30feet speed monster for a 10-day road trip along
the west coast of America. In the end we went 4000 kilometres in this RV.” – Andhim

A crew of five, Simon, Tobi, Camera man Manoah and tour managers, Griffin and Josh, they took for the open road, immersing in an array of musical, cultural and culinary experiences as they travelled across San Diego, LA, San Francisco, Portland and Seattle, before ending in Vancouver. Following the highs and lows of their journey, ‘Miles To Go’ sees Andhim proceed in true Andhim style; the lows were always approached with a distinct sense of comedy; overflowing toilets, fridges flying open in transit and 39 cent microwave burritos that tipped the scales on their inadequately arranged eating habits across the tour.

“The whole tour was terrible for our bodies. Shitty food, no motion, no sleep
and a lot of parties. It was like an anti-health campaign. A defiant protest
against all the cold pressed juices and Acai bowls in the world.” – Andhim

Embracing the wild and whacky areas of their trip, Andhim can be found eating interesting, off-kilter taco selections and hosting an after-hours at their RV in San Diego, moonwalking across Hollywood’s walk of fame, camping in the Red Woods of California, before spontaneously heading towards Big Sur. Embracing the freedom that travelling in an RV offered, ‘Miles To Go’ is an amplification of Andhim’s outward charm and infectious hilarity.

Having been shown at film festivals across the globe including Filmarte Festival, Berlin, Filmfest Bremen and Universal Film Festival in Kansas City, ‘Miles To Go’ was awarded ‘Best Score’ at Swindon Independent Film Festival, UK and ‘Best Documentary Feature’ at San Diego’s IKFF.

Andhim’s ‘Miles To Go’ is an all-encompassing look at two DJ’s taking touring back to its roots and ditching the private jet and champagne lifestyle.

Shown At:
Filmarte Festival – Berlin 2019 (Germany)
On Art Film Festival (Poland)
Filmfest Bremen 2019 (Germany)
Universal Film Festival, Kansas City (USA)
Cuzco Underground Cinema Festival (Peru)
Short Long World Festival, Corrientes (Argentina)
BangkokThai International Film Festival, Bangkok (Thailand)
Great Message Int’l Film Festival, Pune, Maharashtra (India)

Awards:
Best Score – Swindon Independent Film Fest (UK)
Best Documentary Feature – San Diego IKFF (USA)

Rising electro-pop star LILURA releases surprise new track ‘Disaster’

by the partae April 3, 2020
written by the partae

Jemma Tweedie, otherwise known as LILURA, has announced the release of her new track Disaster. Released today, it was planned for a Summer release date alongside tour dates but with those now postponed indefinitely given the current situation she decided to share it with the world today.

LILURA, said: “Disaster came about when I was out on a writing trip in LA back in 2017 so I’ve had the song for a while now. It was originally written about a confusing crossroads between two relationships, so it has a bit of a dark meaning, but it still sounds fun and bouncy. I wanted to get that feeling across to the listener also. However bad a situation is we can always find a bit of a bright side! In the current world climate, I feel like it now takes on a bit of a double meaning. This is why I had the urge to release it now, it just feels right!”

After spending much of 2019  on the road with their EP Good Time, Hideous Sun Demon are back for a new decade with what is perhaps their most direct piece of music yet - the cranking ‘Gimmicks’. Sitting somewhere between Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Gang of Four and King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard, the newest from Hideous Sun Demon will sit well with longtime fans, while introducing a new and tight sound to the public as a whole.   Admitting that they were growing bored with the sounds that had formed the foundations of their early material, Hideous Sun Demon went back to the drawing board when conceptualising this new phase of the band and what they wanted it to sound like. Working with Casey Hartnett (King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard), Jeremy Giddings (Hot House Studios) and Joe Carra (Crystal Mastering), ‘Gimmicks’ came together as a reimagination of the music the trio loves, the essence of their dynamic as performers. “We had kinda gotten into this formulaic approach to songwriting that was defined by fuzzy guitars and doomy riffs. We were eager to adopt a wider breadth of influences, especially since Jake and Vin bonded over their love of post-punk and New Wave in their youth. We’ve started playing with cleaner guitars, writing songs that have a higher focus on tight playing rather than balls to the wall noise, as well as broadening what our sound can be. That’s essentially what Gimmicks is.” Hideous Sun Demon   Throughout last year, Hideous Sun Demon were honing their craft on stages throughout Europe, with the Good Time EP bringing them to the radars of many. Following on from 2018’s FAME, EROTIC, DREAM album (the band’s third), their 2019 material showcased a band that was further exploring their sonic identity. Heading into 2020, Hideous Sun Demon are flexing their songwriting and live muscles more than ever.

Banger alert! The inimitable duo Mr. Belt & Wezol are back on Heldeep Records for the first time since 2018’s ‘Harmony’ and they’ve cooked up another absolute monster. Quite literally!   Taking its inspiration and lyrics from Lewis Caroll’s fantastical 1871 gibberish poem ‘The Jabberwocky’ — which is about a mythical beast — ‘The Jabberwock’ is a pounding high-energy house cut with inspiration from the bass music landscape. Glimmering harp trills shimmer over the distorted kicks and sharp hats in the intro before a dramatic, dark piano refrain brings us into the breakdown.  A dramatic female voice delivers lines from the poem before the drop hits with a warped synth hook and gnarly, bouncing bass to form the crux of the tracks. Little else is needed to make this track bang, with some haunting keys and eerie pad sounds creating a spooked atmosphere as we enter the next break.  Mr. Belt & Wezol are famed for their top disco-flavoured tracks like ‘Finally’, ‘Boogie Wonderland’ and ‘Let’s All Chant’, but this new single is one of their toughest yet. Their 'The Cuckoo’s Nest' Radio Show is also wildly popular, and appearances at the likes of Tomorrowland have shown their a huge force behind the decks.  CONNECT W/ MR. For this week’s event the recipients of those funds are as follows:

Alex Lahey nominates – The Evelyn and Sarah Maidigan
Ali Barter nominates – The Corner Hotel and Chad Halford
Bob Evans nominates – The Workers Club Geelong and Jason Brown
C.W. Stoneking nominates – The Théâtre Royale Castlemaine and Gareth Lindsay
Even nominates – Northcote Social Club and Stuart Morris

Punters can also support the regional wine and brewery industry by ordering a mystery box of wine and beer for $140 from www.deliveredlive.com.au with the contents all produced in the High Country & Gippsland Regions, with funds going directly to the producers.

Delivered Live thanks its sponsors for getting on board this first event –  Victorian Government, Four Pines, The Music, Oztix, Small Time Group, Harry The Hirer.

The event is made possible by The Handshake Agency

PRAISE FOR MELODOWNZ “MELODOWNZ is about to become every NZ rapper's favourite rapper" Vice "New Zealand rapper Melodownz has made noise in the past few years but it appears that he's readying to have a breakout year in 2020." HotNewHipHop “He's already proven to be a mainstay of New Zealand's hip-hop scene since his 2017 debut album Avontales, and now he's ready to take on the world" Earmilk Following on from his explosive last single, ‘No Mercy’ featuring Denzel Curry, New Zealand’s MELODOWNZ has shared his first new music of the new decade, with latest single ‘Fine’ out today via Def Jam ANZ & SNIFFERS Records. Listen HERE. Arriving just in time to see out the Summer, ‘Fine’ is a cruisy poolside anthem, but with its euphoric charm, lighthearted delivery, and mental health morals, the new single is a feel-good heater made to be played at high volumes year-round. Contrasting both of his affinities for hip hop and R&B, ‘Fine’ adopts the contagious, carefree mindset that defines MELODOWNZ’s moniker.  Released alongside a vibrant music video directed by Connor Pritchard, MELODOWNZ embarks on a conscious shifting awakening in the ‘Fine’ visual. Following the rapper on a kaleidoscopic, hallucinatory escapade, Melo stumbles through surreal scenes including an alpaca encounter and a roaring pool party - joined by friends and collaborators including Kiwi legend Scribe and many more.  “There’s a lot of drill and darker themes in music at the moment which I love also, but I just wanted to create something that makes people happy and comfortable,” Melo describes.  With a gangster groove injected into the tracks trumpet infused trap production, MELODOWNZ illustrates his idea of what contentment looks like on ‘Fine’. Melo’s flow is cheerfully infectious over serene verses before he adopts a funk inflicted falsetto vocal on the breezy hooks refrain. “I’ve been feeling fine / no trouble on my mind”, is a mantra of manifestation that makes its listener feel the same state of mind.  “When I wrote this song I was going through a really rough patch. I kept telling myself these affirmations in my head, "I'm fine, no trouble on my mind" to help me get through. I wasn't feeling fine at all, in fact rather the opposite, but making this song helped me with what I was dealing with. And I hope it does the same for the listener.  I was going through beats one day on my laptop and came across this one that Mercy had sent me a while back, It had a really happy uplifting energy to it, so I started singing those affirmations "I've been feeling fine, no trouble on my mind". Although I was being sarcastic, I thought it was fun and it automatically changed my mood. So I recorded it down. I wrote the verses straight after that and the rest is history.”  Last year MELODOWNZ was a recipient of prestigious Kiwi honours among the Pacific Music Awards Prize for “Most Promising Artist”, following his infamous performance on Berlin’s COLORS. This year, Melo has already stormed the stage of festivals among Soundsplash, FOMO Festival, Rhythm & Vines and Northern Bass.   'Fine' by MELODOWNZ is out now via Def Jam ANZ / SNIFFERS Records, buy/stream it here. “New Zealand rapper Melodownz has made noise in the past few years but it appears that he’s readying to have a breakout year in 2020.”

“He’s already proven to be a mainstay of New Zealand’s hip-hop scene since his 2017 debut album Avontales, and now he’s ready to take on the world”

Following on from his explosive last single, ‘No Mercy’ featuring Denzel Curry, New Zealand’s MELODOWNZ has shared his first new music of the new decade, with latest single ‘Fine’ out today via Def Jam ANZ & SNIFFERS Records.

Karnivool’s Sound Awake captured a moment in time when circumstance, influence and individuals collided, restructured and, with a lot of time, pain and joy became elevated above the sum of the parts. A decade and platinum sales have passed the landmark moment in the career of this band who have always gone their own way – meandered when they could have rushed, explored a sonic roadmap forward, then sideways, then backwards. And then forward again.

Sound Awake is an album heavily informed by the art and science of Cymatics and questioning of an ever changing world. From the structured rage of ‘Set Fire to the Hive’, the monster riffing of ‘Goliath’ and the single that was never a single ‘New Day’, Sound Awake is a record full of fan favourites that Kenny, Drew, Hoss, Steve and Jon see as their benchmark.

Attaining worldwide success over this last decade, it launched Karnivool to an intensely loyal, passionate audience that lifted them from an opening act with some interesting tuning to international festival headline act with, well, more interesting tuning in more interesting places… Youngstown, Istanbul, Glasgow, Helsinki, Pune, Bratislava, Auckland, Cape Town, Moscow, Wiesbaden and some place they were told was Chicago, but clearly wasn’t.

WILLARIS.K RELEASES LUSTRE EP; FIRST OF TWO NEW EPS – THE VARIED SIX-TRACK PROJECT FEATURES TWO NEW SONGS: ‘COBAKI SKY’ AND ‘GET WITH MY LIGHT (WITH TOM SNOWDON)’

Reminiscent of the early days of dance, when producers operated by fewer rules and the primitive tech meant there wasn’t a great distance between techno, ambient and progressive house.” – The Guardian UK (One To Watch)

“A heartrending beauty” – MixMag (9/10)

“All hail Willaris. K” – Purple Sneakers

Australian producer Willaris. K has cemented his position as an innovator of electronic music today, by releasing his EP LUSTRE. The first of two EPs to come, LUSTRE comprises six tracks that push the boundaries of melodic techno, ambient, electronica and industrial; a testament to his unique ability to genre-blend while maintaining a signature sound.

Introducing two new songs, ‘COBAKI SKY’, the answer to his earlier single ‘COBAKI SKY (PREQUEL)’ and ‘GET WITH MY LIGHT’ with No Mono’s Tom Snowdon, LUSTRE brings fans a range of niche sounds that unearth the prodigious talents of Willaris. K.

Listen to LUSTRE here
A stunning visualiser for ‘COBAKI SKY’ from Dutch animator Chris Kore is set to premiere at 3.00PM AEDT via Xceed.

Reflecting on how this EP came together, McAllister says, “LUSTRE captures the freedom and euphoria that comes with making music everyday and playing live shows. It also captures the hardships and changes I experienced over that time”

LUSTRE is a reflection of McAllister’s sonic evolution, from his first tracks to incorporate vocals to his abstract dancefloor rhythms. ‘5 O’CLOCK’ leads the EP with a driving build of sirens and synths, showcasing the textural palette he’s become known for. The juxtaposing soft melodies of ‘GET WITH MY LIGHT’ follow with haunting vocals from Melbourne’s Tom Snowdon in an anguished swell of darkness. ‘COBAKI SKY’ returns to the floor with a roaring orchestra of arpeggios and melodic soundscapes, at odds with the brooding loneliness of Gordi’s evocative lyricism in ‘INDIFFERENT’. Rounding out the EP in another wave of tension and release are ‘DETACH’, a vibrant atmospheric arc of flighty industrial tempos and ‘PAST LIGHT’, the cathartic ambient closing track and a nod to McAllister’s musical beginnings.

Over the last two years, the former electricity grid technician has steadily emerged as a creative force, playing sold-out shows across the globe, supporting the likes of fellow-Aussies RÜFÜS DU SOL and recording in iconic studios such as Rick Rubin’s Shangri-La.

In May, he’ll explore the sounds of the underground via his forthcoming club EP, Full Noise due Fri 29 May. Drawing inspiration from late night sets and featuring an impressive lineup of well-regarded creators that have influenced his own work, Full Noise sees McAllister team up with Australian rave stalwart Paul Mac, American rapper and sound designer WaveIQ and composer, producer, beatmaker and Seekae founder, George Nicholas (GN).

Willaris. K’s eclectic body of work has drawn him comparisons to a league of greats like Nathan Fake, Rival Consoles, Brian Eno, and William Basinski. His previous career as an electrical instrument technician led him to pursue music as he worked in solitude across rural power plants along state borders in Australia, collecting field recordings and turning them into ambient tracks.

This season has already seen the budding producer perform to packed-out dance tents at major festivals including Wildlands, Beyond The Valley, OutPut, Origin Fields and Castaway, after supporting RÜFÜS DU SOL on their SOLACE World Tour. Willaris. K also played a benefit show at Melbourne’s Seaworks in February, which donated proceeds to the Fire Relief Fund for First Nations Communities.

Stay tuned for rescheduled live dates in 2020 and some special live stream events.

With many artists with Australian tours originally scheduled for the first half of 2020, The VANNS have been working hard in adapting to these strange COVID-19 times and have announced that their national Red Eye Tour has been rescheduled to take place in September. The band has been powering through the last year off the back of the release of Through The Walls, wasting no time in continuing to spur on the awesome momentum the album’s release with impressive shows, and a well-received Like A Version cover of Bon Iver’s ‘Hey Ma’ to further display their versatility. Download / Stream If you need an emotional release from the current state of the world, look no further than R3HAB's new collaboration "Good Example" with singer/songwriter Andy Grammer. The song takes the format of a parent speaking to their child, and Grammer's voice on the tender lyrics is guaranteed to tug at your heartstrings. "Good Example" opens with Grammer's soulful performance over delicate acoustic guitar melodies, which break down into a groovy and melodic drop courtesy of R3HAB's expert touch. It follows R3HAB's recent release "Creep" with GATTÜSO and is his first collaboration with Andy Grammer, whose hits like "Don't Give Up On Me" and "Honey, I'm Good" have made him a favorite artist of millions of listeners in the pop-rock/country-pop circuit. "Andy Grammer's voice has always been one of my favorites. With this track it's no different – good example is exactly that – a good example of a great song. Andy's message fits the track perfectly, and I can't wait to share it with the world." - R3HAB "'Good Example' is a song about the conflict of being with your kid or chasing your calling. This is an impossible decision, and sometimes showing them how to passionately go after your dream means spending time away." - Andy Grammer Over the last eight years, the Dutch/Moroccan artist Fadil El Ghoul - better known as R3HAB - has established himself as a leader at the forefront of modern electronic music. His talent has been called the "future of the craft" by the likes of Forbes and Billboard, and he's circuited the globe's best clubs and festivals, all without the backing of a formal record label. In 2017, R3HAB independently released his debut album "Trouble" through his imprint CYB3RPVNK, which amassed over a half-billion streams globally and officially placed R3HAB among electronic music's heavy hitters. He made number 14 on DJ Mag's Top 100 list in 2019, topping the charts with tracks like "Lullaby" and "Hold On Tight," while his sophomore album "The Wave," revealing more complex, emotional and experimental layers of himself, has amassed over 250 million streams on Spotify alone. In 2019 R3HAB's "All Around The World" with A Touch of Class quickly became his biggest ever record already topping 200M streams across platforms and achieving gold & platinum status in 8 countries. It was followed by "Flames," R3HAB's collaboration with ZAYN. Andy Grammer's relatable and emotive music has made him a household name since 2011 when throughout his debut album Andy released to the world his first hits, such as "Fine by Me" and "Keep Your Head Up." His second album "Magazines or Novels" was released in 2014, and featured "Honey, I'm Good" which is his most successful song to date, peaking at number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100. This single has been certified triple-platinum RIAA and was ranked one of the ten best-selling songs of 2015 by Nielsen SoundScan. Andy Grammer's music can range from upbeat to heartbroken, and the honesty of his songwriting is part of his appeal.
