One of this year’s brightest acts is Sydney six-piece Winston Surfshirt, who today share their new single “Same Same” out via Sweat It Out. Accompanying the single arrives news of their debut album titled Sponge Cake set for release September 29, celebrated with a national headline tour.

“Same Same” is armed with a throbbing bass line, catchy chorus and vibrant jazz-infused interludes. The multi-layered track is only to be complemented perfectly by Winston’s signature vocals.
”This was one of the last songs written for Sponge Cake, It started in a different pitch and was much slower, I think through almost playing it live a couple days after it was written for about a year helped to form it into the party that it is now. We called in some extra brass and percussion which really helped create it in to the song you’re hearing today.” – Winston.

WINSTON SURFSHIRT SELL OUT SYDNEY SHOW, ADDS SECOND DATE & ANNOUNCE DEBUT BRISBANE SHOW!

Due to incredible demand, Winston Surfshirt have announced a second Sydney show after selling out Oxford Art Factory in just two weeks. The iconic Sydney venue will host an additional date on Thursday, 22nd June. The six-piece also announce they’ll head to Brisbane for the first time, playing Black Bear Lodge, Saturday June 17 on their debut Australian headline tour.

This past month, Winston Surfshirt have played to a sold-out crowd at their “Be About You” single launch, supported Aussie rock royalty Midnight Oil on the inaugural show of their worldwide tour & were picked up by Sir Elton John, who spun “Be About You” on his popular Beats 1 radio show The Rocket Hour. The five-piece also shared a live rendition of J Dilla’s soulful original “So Far To Go” ft. Common & D’Angelo – filmed from band member Bustlip’s living room. Watch it here. 
 
It’s truly exciting times for the Sydney-based group lead by singer/rapper/multi-instrumentalist Winston Surfshirt. Their unique blend of soul, funk and dream-pop quickly caught the attention of tastemaker label Sweat It Out, local legends Astral People and Niche Productions as well as US booking agent CAA’s Alex Becket (RUFUS, Roisin Murphy, Tom Misch) and Joe Hadley (NAO, GoldLink). Meanwhile “Be About You” quickly flooded the airwaves and debuted at #1 on Australia’s Spotify Viral charts and in the top 50 globally, receiving nods from triple j and community radio as well as the likes of international tastemakers Beats 1’s Zane Lowe & KCRW’s Jason Bentley. 
 
Although they’ve had but one official release, Winston Surfshirt have been vital members of Sydney’s underground, headlining warehouse parties and appearing at festivals across Sydney’s inner suburbs for some time. Last year, they teamed up with electronic duo Polographia to provide silky vocals for their single “Sly” and later supported RUFUS on their regional Australian tour. With a loyal fan base already established, it’s no surprise their shows are selling out months in advance.
