THE VANNS kick off tour and release angst-driven music video for ‘HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW’

by the partae October 10, 2018
written by the partae

With their national tour off to a raring start, Wollongong four piece THE VANNS have continued to stroke the fires of momentum surrounding their new single, ‘HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW’, with the release of the accompanying music video!

The single, easily The Vanns’ most direct and commanding piece of music to date, has proven to be a forceful addition to the band’s creative output. Impassioned, rollicking guitars meet an effervescent charm – the classic formula upon which The Vanns have formed a killer band dynamic.

‘How Was I Supposed To Know’ at its core, centres on a relationship breakdown, with the music The Vanns created around the theme channeling powerful frustration. For the music video, the band matches the energy with a cleverly presented narrative, courtesy of director Aden McLeod. Filmed in Melbourne, the music video depicts the many stages of one dinner date, wrought with internal (and external) emotional conflict.

Sonically rich and potent in its delivery, ‘How Was I Supposed To Know’ sets its aims up quickly from the record’s onset, before smashing through to its conclusion with almighty roar. The Vanns made a hectic return with this single and already, the love for it has certainly been felt by the band and music community alike. “The whole video was put together by our best mates on an afternoon in Melbourne. This tour will be our first live shows since May, so we’re really looking forward to playing and trying out new songs.” THE VANNS

PRAISE FOR THE VANNS

“This is a big rocker, dudes. You’ve amped things up with heaps of energy and gutsy moves.”
Triple J Unearthed, Dave Ruby Howe

“Hope you guys bought extra baggage allowance, ‘cos even the most experienced packer couldn’t squeeze these into carry on.”
Triple J, Declan Byrne

“Great to see The Vanns back in 2018. Lots of passion, high amounts of energy and those loud roaring guitars are a statement and a half. This is going to be so much fun live. There’s no stopping now.”
Triple J Unearthed, Claire Mooney

“Produced by Oscar Dawson (Holy Holy, Ali Barter, Alex Lahey), ‘How Was I Supposed To Know’ is one of the band’s most accomplished and commanding tracks to date.”
Vents Magazine

“Showcasing the progress of their rock sound and progress of the band, the new single really packs a punch and captures the hard work the band has put in over the years, from a high school band to one of Wollongong’s finest.”
Hysteria Magazine

“It’s clear why they’ve built the following they’ve got with a flawless performance driven by their insane energy and danceable rhythms.  …Taking over every inch of your soul with their addictively funky sound that just left the crowd craving more of their electrifying showmanship.”
GC Live (2017)

“It’s the kinda music you play when dancing and kicking up sand around a log fire burning on the beach with your closest mates and beautiful strangers. Yes, there’s a fire band currently in place for such flaming shenanigans, but the fire that is ‘Shake The Hand That Picks The Fight’ cannot be so easily extinguished.”
LunchBox TV (Shake The Hand That Picks The Fight EP, 2017)

Supported by emerging Adelaide favourites Wing Defence, touring ‘How Was I Supposed To Know’ will bring The Vanns to venues in Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne before this month is out, before the band heads to Campbelltown to perform as part of the Festival of Fisher’s Ghostcelebrations alongside Bootleg Rascal.

If you’re asking yourself, “Well how was I supposed to know?”, The Vanns have got you covered with some sick opportunities to see them perform their brand new live show before the year is out.

Get to it ASAP.

The VANNS Release New Single ‘How Was I Supposed To Know’ And Announce Tour

by the partae August 16, 2018
written by the partae

Formed in High School in their hometown of Wollongong, The VANNS story centres around Jimmy Vann (vocals/guitars) and Lachie Jones (drummer) when they casually threw a band together to enter a competition. Following 2017’s EP, Shake The Hand That Starts The Fight, the four piece are thrilled to announce brand new single, How Was I Supposed To Know and a string of shows in support of the single. The How Was I Supposed To Know single tour will be supported by Wing Defence and kicks off at Yours & Owls Festival in Wollongong, followed by a headline run down the coast from Brisbane through to Adelaide.

How Was I Supposed To Know is produced by Oscar Dawson (Holy Holy, Ali Barter, Alex Lahey) and showcases the band’s unique rock roaring sound. “This song is about the collapse of a relationship and the frustration, confusion and envy that comes along with seeing the other person easily move on whilst you’re still caught up in what was. “Baby, you don’t feel inside. Can you teach me how to feel how you feel?” explains vocalist / guitarist, James Vann.

CATFISH AND THE BOTTLEMEN, BISHOP BRIGGS & GUESTS ANNOUNCE OFFICIAL SPLENDOUR SIDESHOW w/ BEC SANDRIDGE & THE VANNS JULY 25

by the partae June 23, 2017
written by the partae

Tix on-sale 9am Fri, June 23 here.

Secret Sounds and Yours Owls are joining forces to present to you an Official Splendour Sideshow in the ‘Gong with our favorite international acts Catfish And The Bottlemen and Bishop Briggs.
We are chuffed to bring an eclectic mix down south, including handpicked home grown buzz artists Bec Sandridge and The Vanns joining the show.

Catfish & The Bottlemen

It’s set to be a pretty big year for Catfish And The Bottlemen. After incredible sets at Falls Festival that left everyone wanting more, the boys will back to take on Splendour and have announced two massive side-shows in Sydney at Hordern Pavilion and Melbourne at Festival Hall.
Heralded as the most exciting new guitar band to break through in the UK this decade, Catfish And The Bottlemen, debut album “The Balcony,” gained platinum status in Britain. The year 2016 saw the band’s second album, “The Ride,”Featuring hit singles ‘Soundcheck‘ and ‘7‘, debuted at No. 1 in the UK and sold an incredible 40,000 copies in its first week alone – now claiming gold status. In Australia, ‘The Ride‘ debuted at #6 on the ARIA charts as well as scoring triple j feature album and three entries into the Hottest 100.
Elected this year at the Brit Awards as Best Band in the UK, Catfish And The Bottlemen certainly showed that the fans were right in choosing.

Bishop Briggs

Bishop Briggs

LA based singer/songwriter Bishop Briggs is a buzz artist impossible to ignore. Not many new artists can say they’ve scored over 40 million Spotify plays without dropping an album, but it’s thanks to her wholly unique sound on hit singles ‘River’, ‘Wild Horses’ and more recently ‘The Way I Do’ which The FADER calls “a mix of trap-indebted drums and vocals burning with the fire of Dusty Springfield”.

Bishop Briggs’ rise to success may seem to have happened overnight, but the rising star has been perfecting her singing and songwriting since she was old enough to carry a tune. Her voice has grit and heft, putting her in the lineage of female vocalists such as Janis Joplin, Florence Welch, Aretha Franklin, and Alabama Shakes’ Brittany Howard.

Bec Sandridge

A nomadic pop/punk logomaniac, Bec Sandridge has a guitar swagger reminiscent of St. Vincent, and the delivery of new wave icons like Deborah Harry and David Byrne. Her most recent single ‘High Tide’ has landed high rotation on triple j and was a fan favourite on her recently wrapped Australian tours alongside The Rubens and Highasakite.

2017 has already included tours alongside The Rubens, Highasakite and The Naked & Famous, appearances at Secret Garden Festival, The Hills Are Alive and Mountain Sounds Festival with Groovin’ The Moo, Big Pineapple Music Festival and Yours & Owls Festival still to come. Possibly the most adorable person on social media, be sure to keep an eye on her Facebook to stay updated.

The Vanns

Rambunctious rock’n’rollers, The VANNS are the lovable reprobates that’ll give you a good time and a heavy hangover.

Already having 2 EP’s under their belt and following on from the recent release of “Skinny Legs”, the band are now showcasing a mature sound – subtly taking their frenetic rock and adding a touch of refined sophistication to their songwriting. With the a new EP around the corner, it’s time to start getting excited with some new tunes set to hit the airwaves.
