JEAN DAWSON SHARES NEW SONG ‘MENTHOL’ FT. MAC DEMARCO SUPPORTING BROCKHAMPTON ON THE ‘HERE RIGHT NOW’ NORTH AMERICAN 2022 TOUR

Undoubtedly one of today’s most essential artists, experimental pop artist Jean Dawson returns with an insatiable new song titled ‘MENTHOL’ featuring Mac DeMarco. LISTEN HERE.

Lined with Mac’s signature guitar and featuring a heartwarming note from Mac to Jean, the track signals a new chapter for Jean sonically and personally. With Zach Fogarty on production, it sees Jean elevating his skill as a singer, songwriter, and creative director while also introducing collaborations with fellow peers and real-life friends that inspire him. Simultaneously, the song serves as a catalyst for release in which Jean relinquishes control and leans into the chaos of tomorrow’s unknown, the beauty and unsettling nature of it all.

On the track, Jean says “I’ve just been wanting to scream all the time – not out of anger or any emotion I can pinpoint but just scream at the top of my lungs at nothing. I don’t know if the song represents that at all but the song is just where I’m at with shit. I think I fully lost my ability to care about shit I don’t care about and it’s truly beautiful. I guess I’m really infatuated with the chaoticness that comes with the idea of tomorrow.”

On December 18, Jean will be headlining the Southern California Viva Pomona music festival, as well as directly supporting BROCKHAMPTON on their upcoming HERE RIGHT NOW North American tour kicking off in February 2022.

Jean is a leader amongst a newly-born generation of kids straddling multiple cultures and worlds, operating comfortably within their own skin. His music serves as a score for the life-and-times of kids like him (us). His unique sound and his impact on the current music landscape has already garnered the attention of notable artists such as SZA, Miguel, and A$AP Rocky, all of whom have worked in the studio with Jean recently. He’s already received critical acclaim from NPR, i-D, The Fader, Paper Magazine, Pigeons & Planes, NME, MTV News, Remezcla, Hypebeast, Essence, Nylon, GRAMMY and performed alongside 100gecs, YEEK, Deb Never, MAXO, and many others.

26-year-old Jean is equal parts a musician and a visual artist. Half Mexican and half Black, he was raised in Tijuana and San Diego near the border. His love for music started during his five hour daily treks across the Mexican / American border to attend school in the US. He came up listening to the rock and rap his multicultural parents loved and the Latin sounds around him. Raised by a single working-class Mexican mother, he leaned into art and began challenging notions of hyper-masculinity that line Mexican and Black cultures.
