CONES UNVEIL NEW VIDEO FOR “FIRST TIME” PREMIERING ON PIGEONS & PLANES

SINGLE OUT NOW ON DANGERBIRD RECORDS

WATCH / SHARE: “FIRST TIME”

LA’s Cones unveiled the video for their new single “First Time” today; “First Time” is the duo’s third video featuring hand-drawn animations by frontman Jonathan Rosen and the first to combine his art with live 8mm footage, chosen to evoke a nostalgic feeling that matches the song. Rosen says, “It’s an innocent little bubblegum track about a kid falling in love for the first time. Vocally and lyrically I wanted it to feel sort of naive, like a teenager writing a journal entry on the spot.” Pigeons & Planes premiered the video today, saying. “The duo brings life to their endlessly catchy new single with an impressive visual.”

“First Time” is out now via Dangerbird Records’ Microdose monthly singles series. Cones will play their last show on the year this Thursday, December 7 at LA’s Moroccan Lounge with Midnight Sister.

MORE ON CONES:

Jonathan and Michael Rosen are brothers, and also Cones. Growing up in San Francisco, they were as close as could be – spending their free time eating cereal.

Jonathan was infatuated with pop music from day one. He cried when he realized Elvis was dead. He would build cardboard drum sets in his room and play along to the Bee Gees. In contrast, Michael had a technical and academic approach to music. Trained in piano and composition, he studied in the classical tradition, writing his first opera at the age of 16.

The two brothers are based in Los Angeles. Jonathan is an acclaimed hand-drawn animator. He has created music videos for such artists as Toro y Moi, Eleanor Friedberger, and Delicate Steve. His rock and roll dream was born on the set of HBO’s Vinyl, when he played the role of Johnny Thunders. Michael is a commercial/film composer and experimental sound artist. His fiercely technical brain works in collaboration with his heightened ear to create beautiful and strange sonic environments.

Prior to starting Cones, the brothers played in the backing band for Eleanor Friedberger (of the Fiery Furnaces), helping to write and tour on her latest record New View. While on tour, Jonathan and Michael conceptualized a new project. One that would fuse Jonathan’s pop sensibilities with Michael’s lush soundscapes and key-heavy orchestration. One that would rely on an entire lifetime of brotherhood – sounds that Jonathan could draw and images that Michael could hear.

CONES RELEASE NEW SINGLE “LATER” OUT ON DANGERBIRD RECORDS

LISTEN / SHARE: “LATER”

Cones released their newest single “Later” today, a song that the LA duo says “captures that moment in a breakup when you finally start to find peace, but some of that bitterness is still hanging around.” Tiny Mix Tapes, who premiered the track, call it “a wonderfully intricate and immaculately produced composition that somehow feels light as a feather.”

“Later” will be available on all streaming services tomorrow via Dangerbird Records’ Microdose series. Cones is also pleased to announce two LA shows, including a release party at Dangerbird’s Silverlake offices.

11/17: Dangerbird HQ – Los Angeles, CA (free with RSVP)

12/07: Moroccan Lounge w/ Midnight Sister, Duk – Los Angeles, CA

Over the course of 2017, Cones’ debut singles “Echoes On,” “Back in the Brain,” and “Whatever You’re Into” (the first two featuring hand-animated videos by frontman Jonathan Rosen) have won acclaim from the likes of The Fader, Stereogum, and KCRW, cracked the top five on the Hype Machine chart, and received nearly 100K streams on Spotify.

Jonathan and Michael Rosen are brothers, and also Cones. Growing up in San Francisco, they were as close as could be – spending their free time eating cereal.

The band’s next release comes via Dangerbird’s MICRODOSE, a monthly music and event series. The first single, “Later,” will be released on November 10th, with a corresponding performance and party at Dangerbird HQ in Silver Lake on November 17th.

Cones Release New Single “Whatever You’re Into,” East Coast Tour Kicks Off Next Week

CONES RELEASE NEW SINGLE “WHATEVER YOU’RE INTO” EAST COAST TOUR KICKS OFF NEXT WEEK, INCLUDING HOPSCOTCH FESTIVAL + POP MONTREAL

Cones — the LA duo of brothers vocalist/guitarist Jonathan and keyboardist/producer Michael Rosen — released their breezy new single “Whatever You’re Into” today via Canvasclub. Jonathan says the song “is about being at the wheel late at night, driving somebody wherever they wish to go. It’s about being a people-pleaser, a vehicle for somebody else’s desires. Is their vision the same as yours? It can be hard to decipher. Oftentimes a fog settles between, as it does on a road in the middle of the night. So you’ve got no choice but to drive through it with your brights on.”

AdHoc premiered the track today, calling it “…a groovily sauntering psychedelic dance jam.”

“Whatever You’re Into” is Cones’ third single, following “Back in the Brain,” which Stereogum called “a wonderfully groovy synth-pop delight,” and “Echoes On,” which The Fader praised as “sunny” and “golden.”

Cones kick off an East Coast tour next week, including appearances at Hopscotch Music Festival in Raleigh, North Carolina and Pop Montreal.

9/06: The Sound Hole – Philadelphia, PA

9/07: Hopscotch Festival – Raleigh, NC

9/08: Twisted Branch Tea Bazaar – Charlottesville,VA

9/09: Berlin – New York City, NY

9/11: Psychic Readings – Providence, RI

9/13: The Monkey House – Winooski, VT

9/14: Pop Montreal – Montreal, QB
