ARIA nominations, a Triple Platinum single with ‘Chateau’, ‘Summersault’ in December plus ‘Making Gravy’ tour dates with Paul Kelly cap off an incredible year for Angus & Julia

Angus & Julia Stone, ARIA nominees for ‘Apple Music Song of the Year’, have covered another ‘Apple Music Song of the Year’ nominee – ‘Youngblood’ by Sydney’s 5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS).

Julia says, “I was listening to a Spotify playlist and as I played through the songs, ‘Youngblood’ stood out to me and I thought it would be a great song to cover. The melody was lovely… I listened through a few times and thought, we could do a version in our style, with Angus and me singing gently in unison. I put the idea to Angus, and then we booked a studio with the band and went in and arranged the song. It felt great to sing it together.”

The band has also just released ‘Chateau (Acoustic)’ – download / stream here.    The song is a reinterpretation of the triple platinum hit single ‘Chateau’, nominated for ‘Apple Music Song of the Year’.

Angus & Julia have also received ARIA Award nominations for Best Blues & Roots Album and Best Independent Release. This recognition caps off an incredible 12 months for the extraordinarily talented brother sister duo, including the release of their fourth studio album, the Gold-certified ‘Snow’.

‘Snow’ spawned monster hit ‘Chateau’ and the largest tour undertaking of their career, as they played full houses in Australia and right across the US, UK and Europe.

ANGUS & JULIA STONE SHARE GORGEOUS NEW VIDEO FOR “NOTHING ELSE”

by the partae June 7, 2018
written by the partae

Angus & Julia Stone have released an intoxicating new video for stand-out track “Nothing Else” from their latest album Snow.  The video features two versions of Julia Stone: the buttoned up, responsible businesswoman and the free-spirited, creative artist.  Julia explains, “It’s about self acceptance and self love. I wanted to make a video that shows an aspect of the relationship we have with ourselves. The parts we love, the parts that we find irritating or unlovable. The relationship in the video begins with judgment and frustration. By the end of the video, there is an acceptance from both versions…an ease with the different elements, the contradictions of who we are.”

The acclaimed duo has just performed to over 50,000 fans on their recent 2018 Australian tour, playing Sold Out shows nationally, their largest local tour to date.

Next stop on their global touring schedule is the UK and Europe starting this Saturday, including a headline show at London’s prestigious Royal Albert Hall this Sunday night. They continue throughout June and July playing some of Europe’s biggest festivals as well as headline dates before heading home for Byron Bay’s Splendour In The Grass for a mainstage slot on the night of Friday July 20. See all dates here.

The first notes of new album Snow are instantly transporting, beginning the next enchanting journey with the brother-sister duo. The album is yet another confidant advance on a story which now accounts for over half a million album sales in Australia alone and features triple j Hottest 100 #3, Platinum single Chateau. The Sydney-born siblings produced and largely engineered it themselves, in Angus’s cottage studio, Belafonté, in the Byron Bay hinterland.

Since the duo began performing together in 2006, their story has unfolded with an almost magical magnetism that has galvanised the world. Their albums have amassed multi-platinum sales and numerous ARIA and APRA awards at home, and won a fanbase of millions over spiralling tours of the UK, Europe and North America. The band have each month over 5 million listeners who tune in, to stream their music from all over the world.

Angus & Julia Stone unveil video for new single CHATEAU

by the partae August 29, 2017

Added to FALLS FESTIVAL LINE UP

SNOW album released September 15

Pre-order HERE

Angus and Julia Stone are thrilled to share the exquisite road trip vibe that is the music video for new single, CHATEAU, as premiered on Billboard.

The narrative is played out by leading Australian actors Courtney Eaton, who starred most recently in Mad Max Fury Road, and Dacre Montgomery, who featured in Power Rangers and is the new lead in Stranger Things season 2.

Set in the magical surrounds of Mexico City, the two young rebels embark on a surreal and colourful adventure, stealing Angus and Julia’s car, crashing a decadent wedding gathering and leading guests to an underground disco!   The young pair fall madly in love in the process, against the stunning backdrop and hypnotic vibes of CHATEAU.

CHATEAU is a song of pure contentment in time and place and follows on from first single SNOW, which received extensive airplay on triple j, Double J, ABC Local Radio and national community radio,

SNOW the album, released on September 15, features 12 glorious tracks penned by Angus and Julia together.  It’s the next chapter in an immensely successful career, accounting for over half a million album sales in Australia alone. The Sydney-born siblings produced and largely engineered it themselves, in Angus’s cottage studio, Belafonté, in the Byron Bay hinterland.

“It was quite magical because Angus and I have never spent that much time together, just the two of us,” says Julia. “There’s always at least an engineer or tour manager but the last phase of writing and recording was just eight weeks of him and me and the quiet of the land. It was a beautiful time.”

Julia says, “We have very different styles of writing but they seem to work together. In a way, it’s the differences that make it sound the way it does.”

Since the duo began performing together in 2006, their three albums have amassed multi-platinum sales, whilst new single Snow hit #1 most played on triple j, has accrued half a million video streams and more than three and a half million audio streams.

Angus and Julia are set to play some of their biggest shows to date in the UK, Europe and North America – access all dates HERE – and their Australian tour is a total sell-out!  They have just been announced on the Falls Festival bill and will tour New Zealand in December – see below for dates.

Angus & Julia Stone’s fourth studio album, SNOW, to be released on September 15

by the partae July 6, 2017
written by the partae

Pre-order HERE

National Tour runs September 21 – 29, all dates nearing sell out

Snow single available to stream and download NOW

Following on from the single release Snow, comes news that Angus & Julia Stone’s forthcoming new album will also be titled SNOW, and is set for release on September 15.

SNOW the album continues a process the siblings began at the suggestion of producer Rick Rubin on their self-titled album of 2014. “That was the first time that we actually started writing together, in the same room, and I guess we took a leaf from that chapter into this record. This time round though, every song on the record we wrote together” Angus says.

Plot-wise, SNOW is yet another confident advance on a story which now accounts for over half a million album sales in Australia alone.

As songwriters and performers, Angus explains, “We’ve seen a lot of the same things but they come out of minds and hearts in different ways. We have united memories but different perceptions which makes creating together really interesting”

Julia adds, “We can be talking about the same thing, but how we talk about it, how we feel about it is different. I think that what makes it exciting for us to write together. There’s a line that ties us.  Then there’s the many different ways to talk about that line.”

The first notes of Snow are instantly transporting. The guitar is a scratchy, wooden memory laid over a moment of silence. The gently driving organ beat emerges and takes you with it, beginning the next enchanting journey with the brother-sister duo, “Running from the start, here we are again,” Julia sings. “Running from the start, here we go again,” comes her brother’s reply.

Chateau is a song of pure contentment in time and place. Nothing Else To Do is a stunning acoustic breeze – “There’s nothing else to do here but fall into your arms,” Angus and Julia sing in effortless harmony.

Cellar Door borrows its title from the film Donnie Darko, its subject drawn from the intensely personal experience of the siblings’ grandfather’s funeral. On My House Your House, they find a call-and-response groove that paints a shared place viewed from different angles.

“There’s a lot of this on there, where Angus would find the story in the verse and I would find it in the chorus and we find a way through because of each other,” Julia says. “We have very different styles of writing but they seem to work together. In a way, it’s the differences that make it sound the way it does.”

“I never could have imagined that Angus and I would still be working together 10 years later — i feel pretty lucky we get to make music together. We’ve been through so much, so many shared experiences and memories.”

“It’s exciting to share new music with people for sure… but to be honest, it’s not why I got into writing music,” says Angus. “For me it’s always just been an expression… but it’s a great feeling if people are digging it”
