All We Are share acoustic version of ‘Human’ – listen now

All We Are share acoustic version of ‘Human’ – listen now

Earlier this year, All We Are released their second record Sunny Hills. Produced by Kwes, it found the band with a new sense of urgency and a new sound – taking in psychedelia, krautrock and post-punk. It also carried a powerful message about what it means to be alive right now and the power of friendship and togetherness in a world intent on driving us apart.

Continuing their constant musical evolution, the trio have been working on an alternate Sunny Hills album, creating rearranged, delicately percussive versions of their own songs. The first track to be shared is ‘Human’, and the sparse, gentle instrumentation allow the lyrics to take centre stage.

Listen to All We Are’s acoustic version of ‘Human’ HERE

All We Are say of the new version: “With this version of ‘Human’ we really wanted to strip it all back and leave the message of the song naked and centre point. We all need to show a bit more humanity, especially at this time of year.”

The band have also been branching their merch out into Christmas decorations. Check them out here.

Having played several festivals this year including Glastonbury, Latitude and End of the Road, as well as their first live shows in Australia last month, All We Are will head back out on tour in the UK in March 2018.

All We Are are Guro Gikling from Norway (vocals, bass), Luis Santos from Brazil (guitars) and Richard O’Flynn from Ireland (drums/vocals).

All We Are 2018 live dates
Thurs 1st March – Hare & Hounds, Birmingham
Fri 2nd March – Soup Kitchen, Manchester
Sat 3rd March – North Shore Troubadour, Liverpool
Tues 13th March – Omeara, London
Wed 14th March – The Prince Albert, Brighton
Thurs 15th March – Louisiana, Bristol

All We Are share video for ‘Dance’, the final part in their video trilogy

by the partae July 3, 2017

New album Sunny Hills out now
Playing Latitude and End of the Road festivals

“Radical reinvention” Uncut
“A state-of-the-world-address disco child of New Order’s Age of Consent” Mojo 4*
“Dark drama that brings to mind Siouxsie & The Banshees” Q

Fresh from playing two storming sets at Glastonbury, All We Are share the video for ‘Dance’ – premiered by Pilerats. Taken from their propulsive second album Sunny Hills – released earlier this month on Double Six/Domino – it is the final part in their video trilogy.

Directed by Eoin Glaister and starring Thomas Gray, the video for ‘Dance’ shows the culmination of a town protesting a proposed motorway development, but perhaps not in the way expected.

Watch the video for ‘Dance’ here.

Watch the video for ‘Animal’ (part 2) here.
Watch the video for ‘Human’ (part 1) here.

All We Are are Guro Gikling from Norway (vocals, bass), Luis Santos from Brazil (guitars) and Richard O’Flynn from Ireland (drums/vocals). It hasn’t escaped them that the world seems to be spiraling into a period of darkness and through their music; they want to say it’s ok not to belong and it’s ok to feel different.

Produced by Kwes (Solange, Kano, Loyle Carner) Sunny Hills finds the band with a new sense of urgency and a new sound – one that takes in psychedelia, krautrock and post-punk. It’s an irresistibly danceable, dark yet uplifting record about what it means to be alive right now and the power of friendship and togetherness in a world intent on driving us apart.

Whilst political, Sunny Hills also documents the emotional rollercoaster the three-piece have been on in the past two years. Their adopted city Liverpool affected the album as well, it’s “an immigrant city with a proud history of welcoming everyone” they state, it’s also a singularly radical and resistant city and the band see a parallel between today’s climate of alienation and fear and the era of Thatcher.

Political, poetic, danceable and affirming – for all the proud citizens of nowhere, All We Are give you Sunny Hills.

Known for their thrilling live shows, All We Are topped off their headline UK tour with two sets at Glastonbury last weekend. Further festival appearances this summer include Latitude and End of the Road.

All We Are live dates
13th – 16th July – Latitude Festival, Suffolk
31st Aug – 3rd Sept – End of the Road Festival, Dorset
1st-3rd September – Electric Picnic Festival, Co Laois, Ireland

Sunny Hills is available to buy on special edition vinyl with a stencil insert (available at Dom Mart and independent stores), vinyl, CD and digital. Additionally, initial copies of the special edition vinyl bought from Dom Mart will be signed.

ALL WE ARE

by the partae June 5, 2017
written by the partae

How did All We Are come together as a band?

All We Are came from 3 different countries, Ireland, Brazil and Norway to Liverpool to study. We started the band when we left uni as a means to stick together and of course make tunes.

Where are you based now?

We’re still based in Liverpool, it’s an amazing city.

Can you please give us an example of your music writing process?

Sure, it’s quite an organic process. We get in a room and start jamming. Someone will play a hook, a melody, beat or riff and we’ll latch on to that and make it the basis of the song. It’s pretty diplomatic. The lyrics come last.

What are you working on right now?

Right now we’re just about to release our second record so we’re just working on promoting and touring that.

What is your gear setup?

Basically it’s bass, guitar, drums and vocals but it’s all pretty unusual. I play drums standing up, Guro plays bass like a guitar and Luis’ guitar pedal board is really epic.

How would you describe your music?

I’d say it’s cathartic, groove based, post punk.

What are your plans for the future of All We Are?

We’re going to tour this record and get the message out to as many people as possible. When we’re finished that we’re going to write another. It’s all a big journey.

What are you listening to at the moment?

We’re listening to a lot of post punk, Joy Division, New Order etc but we’ve an eclectic taste. Mainly we just work though our vinyl collection which is comprised of a lot of Domino artists and everything from Hendrix to Buke and Gase.

Who are your top 5 influences and icons?

Top 5?

Ian Curtis

Jimi Hendrx

Stephan Morris (New order drummer)

Janis Joplin

Miles Davis.

When are you playing next?

We’re playing in Manchester this evening so I better fly! Thanks for hearing us out!

All We Are Announce Second Album Sunny Hills For Release June 9th

by the partae May 23, 2017

Watch video for new single ‘Human’ – HERE

Please credit – Hollie Fernando

Last month, All We Are teased their return with the blistering ‘Burn It All Out’. It was the Liverpool-based trio’s first new music since their self-titled debut in 2015 and today, they share the news about their forthcoming second album and a video for the single ‘Human’, which had it’s global radio premiere on triple j last night.

Sunny Hills will be released on June 9th through Double Six/Domino, produced by Kwes (Solange, Kano, Loyle Carner) it finds the band with a new sense of urgency and a new sound – one that takes in psychedelia, krautrock and post-punk.

Directed by Eoin Glaister, the video is part one of a trilogy about a small village having to face a developer building a motorway through the middle of it. At first, it causes issues between the residents but they begin to learn that by joining forces they stand a better chance against the developers. The video stars Thomas Gray as the motorway developer.

The resulting Sunny Hills is an irresistibly danceable, dark yet uplifting record about what it means to be alive right now and the power of friendship and togetherness in a world intent on driving us apart.

The artwork echoes this sentiment, the band explain “it shows an old house sandwiched between two large buildings under development. The woman who owned the house refused to sell to a number of developers including Donald Trump. She resisted for years while the developers even bought the space above the house. She finally won the case and stayed there for a further decade until her death. Before that, she watched Donald Trump’s casino fail and close its doors. There is a feeling of powerful resistance in this story that we relate to along with a real sense of defiance and eventual victory against a bigger power.”
