How did you start?
Sean started writing by himself years ago then I met him and we started doing a few live bits acoustic. We started looking for a full set up, met Ben on guitar then finally after having another bassist for a while met Myles. It then took a lot of pretty bad name choices before we landed on Young Native.
Where are you based?
South East London
Please give an example of your music writing process?
Sean normally starts with chords acoustically along with a melody and get a basic structure for the track then we’ll take it into rehearsal and work on it there. Sometimes it stays similar to what it was originally, sometimes it completely turns into a new song.
What are you working on right now?
Right now we’re just working on releasing our second EP,which should be out for Summer
What is your gear setup?
Two guitars, Bass, Drums + SPD Sampler
What do you like to do outside of music and does it affect your music?
Think everything we do outside of music in some way affects our music, we make music about things we’ve experienced/gone through. Just normal things, kicking ball, skating, hanging out with mates.
How would you describe your music genre?
I guess all the different music we listen to all blends into how we sound, it’s hard to nail it down to one genre. A melting pot of Indie/Phsycadelic/Rap
Do you know any music theory?
Varies between us but music theory doesn’t massively come into our process of making music.
What are your plans for the future?
To get on tour, play some decent festivals and work on and release an album.
What are you listening to at the moment?
Allah Las, Protomartyr, Tom Misch, Sticky Fingers, Badbadnotgood, Island, Yellow Days.
Who are your top 5 influences and icons?
We’re definitely all influenced by different artists and genres of music but if we had to lock it down to 5. Mac Demarco, The Clash, The War on Drugs and Jamie T.
When are you playing next?
Our next show is May 27th at Proud Camden for Camden Rocks Presents. Maybe Australia too if anyone wants to book us?
