"He’s been compared to big hitters like Chance The Rapper and Earl Sweatshirt, and with the release of his five-track EP Lost In Translation, he’s made good on all that promise." - Acclaim "[Yibby] just throws out these lines - one after another - without breaking a sweat." - Richard Kingsmill, triple j "I know it's good because I hit repeat straight away." - Gemma Pike, triple j "Yibby’s is a unique and really exciting voice on the local scene." - Life Without Andy Celebrating a year in the game young south-Sydney lyricist YIBBY today reveals the video for his latest team up with fellow wunderkind Raj Mahal on 'Poke'. He'll also hit the road next week in support of roster mates Winston Surfshirt. More brash than his previous releases, 'Poke' shows YIBBY's diversity and ability. Filmed as a comical chase film, 'Poke' recaps a day where Raj was attempting to confront YIBBY. Playing off the various meanings of Poke it includes the pair playing pokies and eating poké bowls, along with a cameo from local comedian Neel Kolhatkar. Directed by frequent collaborator Aaron Bull, he adds "The goal for poke was to bring out both artists energies in the shots. Yibby’s liveliness and Raj’s aggression. I used black and white on the flashback scenes to give it more of a dramatic feel and to help differentiate the past and present." From releasing his debut single in November last year, Yibby has quickly accumulated fans in media, audiences, and peers alike. His single 'Folk' pulled from his debut EP was added to spot rotation on triple j, as well as full adds on triple j Unearthed, FBi Radio, SYN Radio, 4ZZZ and EDGE Radio, and spins on Beats Radio 1. Yibby also left his mark on triple j's Bars of Steel, was named in Acclaim's series The New Locals and performed in FBi Radio's Independent Play series alongside praise from Sniffers, Life Without Andy and Purple Sneakers. Filled with coming-of-age tales, the Lost in Translation EP cements Yibby's arrival in the rap scene. Switching between chaotic tracks to slower, more laidback jams, Yibby is a chameleon of the genre; making it truly impossible to predict what's next. In less than ten months he's supported Drapht, Arno Faraji, Milan Ring and Kuren as well as performing a show-stopping set at Bad Friday Festival and is about to hit the road with Winston Surfshirt this month.
