“Slices of dreamy alt-indie with undercurrents of tropical production and R&B nostalgia.”

Soaring out of Meanjin, Brisbane, rising indie icon Yb. has been brewing new flavours just in time to soundtrack summer and today serves up smooth new drop, ‘Coffee Shop’.
Collaborating with Winston Surfshirt and Fossa Beats on production, Yb. says the track came together with ease. “I remember my session with Winston so vividly because it was surprisingly easy to get my ideas across,” The result? ‘Coffee Shop’. Overflowing with syrupy, golden goodness as Yb’s vocals float through warm balanced layers and orchestral undertones, with smiling hints of brass and sax. “I tried to encapsulate the feeling of a coffee shop on a hot afternoon,” explains Yb., “In an attempt to make my songwriting more intimate, I imagined exactly where and who I was sitting with.” For Winston Surfshirt, Yb.’s smooth vocals and unassuming lyrics were the missing ingredient, “Yb came round for a session at my place and took a shining to this beat and made it something I could never have!”
Signing off from a momentous year, 2021 has seen Yb. spotlighted as a triple j Unearthed feature artist, applauded with glowing reviews and triple j airplay for his single ‘DANCE WITH ME TODAY’. Expanding collaborative circles, Yb. headed to Sydney to work with Winston Surfshirt, Touch Sensitive and Stevan. The talented local has also attracted worldwide attention from the likes of Tom Misch, Dangermouse and Snakehips. Yb. has experienced a myriad of global Spotify editorial playlist moments, including landing on the cover of one of Spotify’s biggest playlists, Front Left and becoming the poster artist for their latest advertising campaign.
No need to order this one to-go — just sit back and enjoy as Yb. prepares to serve up more irresistibly funky favourites heading into the new year.
