On Friday August 16th possibly the world’s greatest The Strokes tribute band, The Smokes, will be appearing live on the Yah Yah’s bandstand to celebrate the bands legendary catalogue!

The first two albums are truly some of the greatest studio works to emerge in the indie rock revival of the last twenty years. Their debut, Is This It, was instantly a classic that shaped wardrobe choices and soundtracked indie-disco dancefloors everywhere. The Nike Air Max of indie rock returned triumphantly with an instant classic in Room on Fire! They didn’t break out into stadium rock and we’re all the more thankful for it. An album that again was full of indie-disco dancefloor fillers as they posed as a Cars cover band (cover band you say?) on lead single 12:51, the throbbing bass riding hurricane Reptilia and boozy last drinks call out of The End Has No End.

The first two albums are corkers, but let’s not forget the first hint of the following Third Impressions of Earth in “Juicebox” was such a tune! And “Heart in a Cage” and “You Only Live Once” are fair corkers also! Maybe you’ll hear some tracks from later albums but bet ya bottom dollar the best from those first three records are gettin’ a go live.

So dust off that double denim, pull out your favourite vintage dress and experience the kings of the 2000’s indie-rock explosion.
