SHOCKONE RELEASES OFFICIAL VIDEO FOR NEW SINGLE A DARK MACHINE FEAT. REIJA LEE TOURING NATIONALLY IN OCT/NOV
Australian electronic music producer and DJ Karl Thomas – AKA ShockOne – returns today with the official video for his new single A Dark Machine feat. Reija Lee. The track, which is currently getting airplay on triple j and BBC Radio 1, is the first new music from ShockOne since 2016’s In This Light EP.
A collaboration between Perth video director Matsu (Elk Road, Willow Beats, Tired Lion, Koi Child) and ShockOne, of the video, ShockOne said: “This is the first time I’ve had a direct hand in the production of one of my clips, which has been a dream of mine since forever. I’m so happy with what we achieved. I feel so lucky to have been able to work with director Matsu and producer Jess Parker of No Labels Media, as they’re both geniuses at the top of their game. This video is a first look into the world I want to create around the Dark Machine project, so I had a pretty strong vision of what I wanted. To have Matsu take my ideas on board, for him to expand on them, and then execute them with such a high level of craftsmanship was simply amazing. Through a lot of experimentation, close collaboration and a steep learning curve (for me at least) we were able to realise what was in our minds.
“I want to thank my sister Reija Lee for doing such an amazing performance in the clip; everything hinged on that performance, and she nailed it.”
Reija Lee said: “Karl and I are both pretty big sci-fi nerds and we had a pretty clear concept that we wanted to explore. Working with Matsu and No Labels Media was honestly like finding our nerdy counterparts who love all the same influences as us and could actually make our ideas a reality, whilst also bringing their own ideas to the table.
“I knew this video would rely pretty heavily on my performance and I was pretty nervous about that; but when I got in front of the camera, Matsu just knew how to get the best out of me. He is an amazing director. And I also have to say that Karl and Matsu’s efforts learning the VFX software inside out – something that was new to all of us, and quite complex – paid off so much. I’m so amazed and proud of what we’ve achieved together.”
