Ahead of his North American tour opening for Tame Impala, Velvet Negroni shares his new song ‘WINE GREEN’, whose visual features his own drawings. The single is the second to be taken from his forthcoming debut album NEON BROWN out Friday 30 August on 4AD / Remote Control Records.
Velvet Negroni, the creative alter-ego of Minneapolis’ Jeremy Nutzman, creates raw, experimental R&B centered on the level of intimacy his voice evokes hybridizing classic soul and West Indian elements.‘WINE GREEN’ is preceded by a live video of the song on which Afropunk compared him to Teddy Riley and Missy Elliott, and lead single ‘CONFETTI,’ that FADER praised as “lush in its atmosphere but brutally cold in its delivery…a warped invitation into the gorgeous contradictions of Velvet Negroni.”
In the last year, Velvet Negroni’s music was sampled by Kanye West and Kid Cudi on ‘Feel The Love (ft. Pusha T),’ graced Pitchfork playlists and BBC Radio 1 airplay, and he joined musical mentor Bon Iver on tour. On NEON BROWN, Velvet Negroni is a griot relaying the life and times of his own island of one as he rhymes in double time, or hiccups and la-las through a break, or croons from a room down the hall, as it unfolds into another story of lost love, or another joke about lost drugs, as it tries to make sense of a life spent in the (sometimes harrowing) pursuit of communion. Longtime collaborators Psymun (Future, Young Thug, Juice WRLD, The Weeknd) and Elliott Kozel (Tickle Torture) produced the album in Minneapolis.
