Since then the rising artist has released seven singles including the 2019 favourite ‘Teach Ya’ which won Listen Up Music Org’s national competition for Songs That Heal. Her latest aptly titled single ‘Run’ is the first taste of an upcoming debut EP that is sure to propel Velvet Bloom to the forefront of Melbourne’s thriving soul scene with its silken melodies and honeyed vocals.

Run’ sees Velvet Bloom harnessing an innate ability to speak directly to the soul with her smokey vocals rich in timbre and instantly captivating. ‘Run’ is a gently swaying ballad that builds to immense heights with Herbert’s layered vocals sounding as if they’ve been plucked straight out of 1960s New York. With Maddy fronting guitar and vocals, the single features the seasoned musicianship of Alex Marko (Lead Guitar, Synth & Keys), Anthony Rennick (Bass), Nic Morton (Drums, Percussion), with additional performances from Yara Alkurd Quin Grunden. ‘Run’ was co-produced by MaddyAlex and Quin, and mixed by Edvard Hakansson with mastering by Joe Carra at Crystal Mastering.

“I remember writing this track during the second COVID lockdown in 2020, restrictions were harsh and ‘Run’ was one of the first songs that I could fully resonate with after a creative lull. Sometimes, risks can be scary and the fear of sacrificing what you already have for something uncertain can cause inner turmoil. ‘Run’ is about overcoming those fears and leaning into the unknown with excitement.” – Velvet Bloom
