‘The original was a warped but infectious piece of synth pop centred around delicate vocals and fragile synths. Carroll’s remix flips things somewhat, placing the focus on the electronics to create an immersive, rolling, seven-minute epic of futuristic dance music.’

Liberation Records are thrilled to present the dark, hypnotic remix of upsidedownhead’s ‘circulate ft. PLGRMS’ by Sydney composer/producer Pat Carroll, as premiered last night on Complex.
The remix drops just in time for upsidedownhead’s upcoming BIGSOUND shows, where he’ll bring his trademark sound to life across two shows on Wednesday 4th September at The Woolly Mammoth and Thursday 5th September at The Flying Cock.
Speaking of the remix, Pat Carroll says;
“For the remix, instead of focussing on the main vocals, I wanted to have more of an instrumental centre. So I used the plucky synth recording at the start of the original and basically tried to build the whole tune around that. So it’s really a big set of variations on that one recording. Even the very last section is still using the same rhythm of it, just through a new synth.
I also restricted myself as much as possible to only using sounds from the stems, so besides the kick and the basses, everything is from Ross’ original sounds. All the atmospheric sounds were created by processing the vocals to create a bed for all the quick percussive sounds to play over.”
The exhilarating and infectious anthem of ‘circulate’ was featured on Spotify’s New Music Friday, Indie Arrivals and Apple’s Vibes playlists. Speaking on the original, Ross explain he created the track to show how to be okay with letting someone go.
“It’s about constantly walking in circles in your mind and trying to keep up with your thoughts about someone. You finally choose to let go and embrace them for who they are, but instead of completely letting go… you always hold on to the little bit of control out of fear.”
‘circulate’ was a welcome return from the Sydney based artist, who previously released his debut EP complex in November 2018. complex was praised by online tastemakers CLASHand The Line Of Best Fit, had spins across triple j and FBi Radio and added to playlists across Apple Music and Spotify. It also awarded upsidedownhead his first international spins from BBC Radio 1 and Amazing Radio (UK).
