One of the West Coast’s most exciting and distinct voices, Perth via Zimbabwe emcee T$oko (pronounced tee-soh-koh) is back with his bold new single, ‘S.O.S.’ feat. Jimmy Drones, premiered last night on triple j’s Hip Hop Show. The first single of his long awaited debut EP, Time will be dropping in early January 2020, followed by a string of live dates with Sydney party starters Bootleg Rascal.
With a sincere and compelling narrative across its seven tracks, Time delves into T$oko’s thoughts on life following the tragic loss of his cousin. Reflecting on the difficulties, his emotions, the EP is an honest and genuine journey through T$oko’s struggle and the defiant optimism and positivity.
A powerful introduction to the project, ‘S.O.S’ aka ‘Summer On Smash’ is bold, raw and unashamedly T$oko, featuring this morning in Apple Music‘s ‘New Music Daily‘ and ‘The New Australia‘ playlists. One of Time’s most lively cuts, ‘S.O.S’ is a high octane party anthem which celebrates life amidst the loss. Driven by booming 808s, sharp trap percussions and a glossy, undulating vocal sample courtesy of producer Super Miles (Wale, SmokeDza, K-Camp) T$oko and his fellow ToneYouth group member JimmyDrones share tight correlating verses which highlight the importance of friendship and having a good time.
No stranger to the scene, T$oko has been turning heads since his debut track ‘Blasphemy/Mirror‘ in 2017. Since then along with a slew of singles, T$oko has gone on to be named “one to watch” from triple j Unearthed, going on to score rotationon triple j and triple j Unearthed, alongside praise across Complex, Pilerats, and Scenestr. Collaborating with electronic whizz Just A Gent, their track ‘VIBE’ now has over 2 million streams on Spotify alone.
