What is your name and role within The Nectars?
Jon Paul, I’m the bass player but I write and sing a some too!
Where are you currently based?
Beautiful Bergen County New Jersey, armpit of the world and proud.
Please tell us a little about what influenced the songwriting of your debut single ‘Heaven’:
We’ve been on a heavy NY Post Punk kick for a while so bands like Television, Richard Hell, Blondie, etc were all pulled from heavily. Once we had some melodies we fuzzed it up a bit and that’s it!
Where and when did you record?
That particular song was recorded on 2 inch tape at Studio G Brooklyn with Producer Chris Cubeta. Late mixing by Chris Sheldon (The Pixies, Foo Fighters, etc)
Who are you listening to at the moment?
Young Thug, Asap Ferg, Migos, Danny Brown, Alvvays, Merle Haggard, Merle Travis, etc.
How did you first get into music?
Personally my high school music teacher showed me everything I know. From there it was lots of nights on the road with shitty hardcore bands.
When and where are you playing next?
MERCURY LOUNGE – JANUARY 7TH @ 6PM
THE MEAT LOCKER – JANUARY 27TH @ 9pm
What equipment / programs do you use live and when recording?
We do a lot of demoing in Ableton (mainly because we downloaded it to make hip hop beats and it’s user friendly enough for us to wander through it)
What do you have planned for 2018?
Mini Album coming out this summer, touring Europe, spreading out across the US, releasing another EP by the end of 2018. Lots to do….
Favourite food and place to hangout?
Pizza because I’m a trash human and I don’t care. Anywhere up in the Ramapo Mountains….
