“We’d suggest getting yourselves along and expecting the unexpected;
Growlers gigs go long and get wild.”– Monster Children
“While the title tips its hat to The Velvet Underground (“not everyone”), this is a Growlers track, garagey and poppy, through and through.” – Brooklyn Vegan
“Nor gypsy, nor skater, nor goth, nor hobo, nor surfer, nor punk, yet somehow all of these things. The Growlers just might be the most interesting band in the world, certainly one of the coolest.”
– Julian Casablancas
California’s radical sons, The Growlers arrive in the country this week for the start of the Australian leg of their mammoth worldwide ‘Beach Goth’ tour. In what is guaranteed to be a rollicking, majestic wave of movements all around our golden coast, the band have just announced two very special, pop-up events for Byron Bay and Sydney.
A carnival of sun bleached, riff laden good times lay ahead as the band set up shop in Byron Bay onSunday Jan 13 and in Sydney on Friday Jan 18. The Growlers’Beach Goth Australia Pop-ups will feature special guest performances, oddities and authentic Growlers props, wardrobe, artwork, photography, video, custom surfboards PLUS limited edition and one-of-a-kind merch items, while supplies last. The events are free and open to the public, 18+ RSVP only. RSVP for Byron Bay HERE & Sydney HERE.
The Growlers have also invited their long-time friend and collaborator Kirin J. Callinan along for the ride. Callinan will be performing a special solo slot at both pop-up events as well as joining The Growlers on stage for the Australian tour (all shows apart from Narrabeen and Adelaide). Callinan has spent the last twelve months touring the US and Europe with the band as lead support and as that tour rolled on he found his way onto The Growlers stage, first as percussion then hype guy and settling at guitar hero.
The original purveyors of that curious sub-genre of music known as ‘Beach Goth’ have only just released their brand-new, fuzz-laden single ‘Who Loves the Scum?’. The deliciously scuzzy track written byNielsen and Matt Taylor was produced by Julian Casablancas (who produced The Growlers 2016’s LPCity Club) as well as Grammy award winning producer Shawn Everett (Alabama Shakes, War On Drugs, Weezer).” The single includes a limited-edition seven-inch single via the band’s own label Beach Goth Records.
Don’t miss The Growlers play some of their biggest Oz venues to date including the iconic Forum Theatre in Melbourne and The Metro Theatre in Sydney. The tour kicks off on the Gold Coast on Jan 10 and is also stopping in Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast, Byron Bay, and Adelaide. Supports are announced for each state including BABE RAINBOW, THE CHATS and PIST IDIOTS with a stack of local supports just added and at last but not least, very special guest and honorary Growler Kirin J Callinan.Tickets are selling fast.
