Listen to Oscar Wilde HERE
A brand New Year brings another brand new song from The Cat Empire. Oscar Wilde is the seventh song to be released from the forthcoming album Stolen Diamonds, which is due for release on Feb 15th 2019.If there is a song on the new album that checklists all the boxes on what makes for a great song by The Cat Empire, Oscar Wilde is it. With a Melbourne via Soweto swing, the song is a vehicle for yet another beautiful Felix Riebl vocal evoking warm memories of the past, both his and ours, while introducing another TCE trademark hook that wouldn’t be out of place on the classic Paul Simon Graceland album. “I can’t help but think that Paul Simon had some part to play in this one,” Felix confesses. “On tour, I always come back to Graceland as a reference for music that just floats and makes me feel good. It reminds me of why I’m anywhere.”
The cover image for Oscar Wilde (featuring a white singlet similar to the ubiquitous garment worn by Felix Riebl both onstage and off throughout the early part of the bands career) is by New Zealand born, Melbourne based photographer Ben Clement who brings a warm and balanced approach to his work combining minimalist aesthetic with creative spontaneity. “This photograph was taken on a trip to the Northern Territory in 2018,” the artist explains. “It was an early morning when I noticed a flicker of the sunrise catch my eye. I turned around and saw this t-shirt hanging out to dry on the Hills Hoist. Everything in front of me from the sunrise, the red earth, the caravan, clothes line and shirt felt like a particular slice of Australian life. It was one of those moments where timing, location and observation aligned perfectly.”
With the brand new album Stolen Diamonds to be released on February 15th, and streams from the songs already released racking up close the 3.25 million plays, 2019 is shaping up to be yet another huge year for The Cat Empire.
The band will hit the ground running straight after album release on a massive North American tour with multiple sold out dates throughout March and then another European assault kicks off in July soaking up summer across the continent.
For eager fans, pre-sales for Stolen Diamonds finish on January 31st with the band planning a number of unique fan only activations and competitions across the album release period.
