How did you start?
The project began in 2011 when we moved into the Lida Donnell Adobe in 29 Palms, CA just outside of the entrance to Joshua Tree National Park. We were there on military orders, and songwriting was an outlet for Tim from his job on the Marine base. We started playing out and meeting so many artists and musician in the Joshua Tree area that inspired us to continue to make music and write songs.
Where are you based?
29 Palms California, USA.
Please give an example of your music writing process?
Lyrics come in little snapshots and are compiled over the course of days, weeks, or months. The music is usually written on a guitar while sitting reflecting on desert life.
What are you working on right now?
We are finishing up recording a single and plan to make an accompanying video. We have a small radio campaign in the states and plan to start setting up tour dates in the west and southwest US.
What is your gear setup?
Depends on the show. We’ve played anything from an acoustic duo set with just Tim&Faith to an 8 piece band with drums, bass, guitars, horns.
What do you like to do outside of music and does it affect your music?
Tim is a practicing pediatrician so that takes up a bit of the extra time. Also, quite a bit of time outside of music is usually spent tending to our two young children. We also enjoy going to see friends play music in our area.
How would you describe your music genre?
I guess the core concept is folk rock with a desert influence, but we have elements of Americana, country, indie pop, and occasionally draw on psychedelia. Guess you could say we are like putting Sam Beam (Iron and Wine) and Marketa Irglova (Swell Season) in front of a band like Wilco.
Do you know any music theory?
Only a small amount.
What are your plans for the future?
New recordings, tour dates at midsized venues, maybe a record deal if it makes sense.
How did you get into music?
Tim heard Pachelbel’s canon at a young age and was intrigued by the sound of violins so he started there. Faith comes from a family of singers so has always sung along.
What are you listening to at the moment?
Calexico, Wilco, Grizzly Bear, The Pixies (now and always), Sam Beam, Beck.
Who are your top 5 influences and icons?
Bob Dylan, Marcel Duchamp, Martin Luther King Jr, Jeff Tweedy, Neil Young,
When are you playing next?
June 15, 2017 at a secret location in Joshua Tree, CA.
