'The timing feels perfect for his worldly perspective and genre-mixing sound’ – Pigeons & Planes “Gen Z’s ascendant king of sad boy pop” - i-D   100S + 1000S is thrilled to today release the genre-pushing sophomore EP Trust No Stars In The Daylight and it’s accompanying video from Zimbabwean born, New Zealand raised, and New York based artist, TAPZ. We’re also thrilled to share the lead single from the project – the moody and probingly philosophical track ‘Die For This’. Reflecting on the focus single, TAPZ explains, “‘Die For This’ is about being devoted to something greater than life. I wrote it when I moved to New York to chase my dreams. The move impacted everything, ultimately forcing me to discover what I'm willing to die for; what I love and what loves me. Music is my purpose, my true love and I’m willing to die for it. In the times my devotion to music is tested, this song acts as a reminder of that.” Blurring the lines between hip-hop, R’n’B and punk music, Trust No Stars In The Daylight TAPZ is a body of work he refers to as ‘Noir RnB’. From the recent experimental double release of the same name, to Complex-approved harmonic ballad ‘Juice’, and heavy guitar number ‘LUV IS LETHAL’, TAPZ experiments with sounds and instruments he’s previously overlooked. Capturing the very essence of the song’s intensity, the video for ‘Die For This’ portrays TAPZ in varying degrees of solitude, contemplating the complexity of life and love. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3tA1HJIs4rs VIDEO: 'Die For This' by TAPZ During the creative process, TAPZ found himself leaning towards the acoustic guitar, intrigued by its intimacy and how relatable it is. While common and familiar, he says, “in the right hands it can sound like nothing you’ve heard before.”  Inspired by innovation and contrast he continues, “one thing I learned when I was under Kanye West’s G.O.O.D Management is that, innovation and distortion is one in the same thing, so by combining acoustic guitars and distorted 808s, I've been able to create something fresh and exciting." From securing tour spots in Australia and New Zealand with Banks, A$AP Ferg, Lorde and Hermitude, TAPZ has already had an exciting musical journey thus far. After moving to New Zealand at age 10, his passion for music flourished, leading to the release of ‘Killa’ and his collaborative hit song ‘The Buzz’ with Hermitude and a win at the MTV EMA awards in 2017. TAPZ features on Melbourne alt-pop darling, Owl Eyes’ latest single ‘You Don’t Know Love’, which has seen widespread support at Spotify and Apple Music and is in full rotation at triple j following its premiere on Good Nights. Trust No Stars In The Daylight marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for young TAPZ, and we for one cannot wait to hear what he dreams up next.    Visit media.mushroomgroup.com/TAPZ for images, bios, links and more.  Trust No Stars In The Daylight  TAPZ EP out now through Mushroom Group Available to buy/stream here Trust No Stars In The Daylight tracklist: 1.
