“Gen Z’s ascendant king of sad boy pop” – i-D
Reflecting on the focus single, TAPZ explains,
“‘Die For This’ is about being devoted to something greater than life. I wrote it when I moved to New York to chase my dreams. The move impacted everything, ultimately forcing me to discover what I’m willing to die for; what I love and what loves me. Music is my purpose, my true love and I’m willing to die for it. In the times my devotion to music is tested, this song acts as a reminder of that.”
Blurring the lines between hip-hop, R’n’B and punk music, Trust No Stars In The Daylight TAPZ is a body of work he refers to as ‘Noir RnB’. From the recent experimental double release of the same name, to Complex-approved harmonic ballad ‘Juice’, and heavy guitar number ‘LUV IS LETHAL’, TAPZ experiments with sounds and instruments he’s previously overlooked.
Capturing the very essence of the song’s intensity, the video for ‘Die For This’ portrays TAPZ in varying degrees of solitude, contemplating the complexity of life and love.
