Tanners

“An interstellar bop”
 – NYLON

“Tanners makes energetic psych-pop with melodies eager to worm their way in your head” FADER

“’Venus’ showcases Peterson’s mastery for dream-like psych-pop, with explosive anthemic hooks, cosmic 80s synths and funk-fuelled basslines.” – The Line of Best Fit

“Electronics and synths that sound like waves gently crashing and receding on the beach…” – Stereogum

Tanners follows her self-titled EP with an anthemic ode to the stars, Venus.

The Tennessee-turned-New Yorker studied Music Technology at NYU and draws from the psychedelic, otherworldly sounds and big pop hooks to create her own blend of electro-pop, sitting somewhere between Tove Lo and Tame Impala. Tanners co-produced with Mike MaCallister whilst the legendary Mandy Parnell (Jamie XX, Aphex Twin) mastered the track. Its dreamy blend of pulsing synths, bursts of guitar riffs and heavy bassline demonstrate Tanners’ flare and mastery over her individual sound, sonically and spatially.

Inspired by a trip to South East Asia, the single is Tanners recollection of the times spent sleeping on the beach: “At night the sky was jet black, but the moon and stars were so bright that you didn’t even need a light. With some practice, I got pretty good at identifying stars and planets and it kind of became my party trick. Venus was the earliest to rise and was also the brightest point in the sky, so it became my reference point throughout my trip.”

‘Venus’ is the product of the confusing time Tanners faced after returning from Asia to busy New York, with “dramatic mood-shifts from the verse to the chorus which mirrored a lot of what I was feeling at the time; a massive comedown and a bright afterglow.”

After being invited to perform at TEDx Teen by the legendary Nile Rogers for the ‘Create. Dialogue’ event, it’s clear that Tanners is making waves in the pop world. Her talents spread further afield than music too; Her strong aesthetic on and off-stage landed her in the campaign video for Puma X Shantell Martin.

True to its name, ‘Venus’ is a dream-like, stratospheric pop hit that is sure to leave its mark.

‘Venus’ is available on all streaming platforms on 27th November.
