Twin Dive

written by the partae

What is your name and role within Twin Dive?

My name is Robert. I’m the lead singer-guitarist, chief-songwriter, co-manager and producer for the music videos and above all I hate boasting.

My name is Raggi, I am the drummer and the better-looker in this band.

Where are you currently based and what is the music scene like there?

Our band is situated in Aarhus Denmark, which recently gets around as the Seattle of the modern day. The city is largely populated by young people, thus has a large artist community, therefore the music here is thriving. There’s little to none divisiveness based on genre, if anything you will see the same faces at a metal concert as at a hip hop show. People go for the experience, not a genre and we think it’s a good style for an audience.

How did Twin Dive start?

Having parted with our former bands some time ago, we were both looking for a new gig and then almost naturally found each other. We co-acted in a music video for my former band earlier, which involved a lot of preparation and physical contact, during which Raggi and I became good friends. Starting a band was an obvious move so we did it.

How do you usually go about writing music and what or who influences your sound?

It’s quite organic all of it. I’d normally show up with some skeleton of a song that I made up in my room or during one of my frequent walks, Raggi would drop the drums on it and then it’s all down to details, you know, dynamics, phrasing, bars, transitions and what have you. After all of that is done, I’d go into my bubble and take a fukin forever to finish the lyrics.

The influences of our sound are quite obvious and we see it as a good thing. Everything reputable that came out from early 90’s and onwards is in there, all the grunge, all the british cool, the punk, even the hip hop. Make a hotpot with Nirvana, Kings of Leon, Oasis and QoTSA and garnish it with some modern thinking and originality and there you have it.

Who are you listening to at the moment?

IDLES was spinning quite heavily for a while along with Flyte, both great fukin bands. The UK, they just got the music sorted, man. Being late into my 20’s I’ve naturally been listening to a lot of the old stuff that shaped me too. Raggi has been hooked on The Acid. The band, not the substance. It used to be both though.

What have you been working on lately?

We are lucky to work with some of the finest film makers in town, so there’s been a lot of making and conceptualizing of music videos. We are also working on an outdoor event where we will play a live soundtrack to a movie being projected onto a huge wall. Sort of like the very early format of film where you had a dude playing piano to a silent movie, but with all the tech and musical upgrades.

What do you like to do away from music?

We both love a good workout, I do thai boxing, Raggi loves his gym routines. We read whenever we feel like it, averaging to about 4 books a year but our local library is just glorious, so we go and enjoy the big open spaces there quite often. Making money is nice too. Spending it even more so. As is often the case with musicians, we are flirting with the idea of acting in film and are looking into some ideas and making some minor plans.

What do you have planned for 2019?

Currently we are looking at 4-5 single releases, plenty of gigs in the country and a weekend in the UK, dates of which aren’t confirmed yet. Booking for Europe has just started so we will take the gigs as they come. And then that outdoor film-soundtrack event we mentioned above.

Favourite food and place to hangout?

Robert: I basically run on grapefruit, nuts, cookies, pizza and sandwiches. I’ll eat one healthy substantial meal a day in a nearby cantina. The rest is snacking. Everything is a sandwich anyway. I like to hang out in local bars where you can smoke indoors. Luckily, they seem to attract my kind of people and the playlist is great too. I love my friends above all, with them it can be a ditch in a bigger ditch and it will be great.

Raggi: I’ll eat whatever has been cooked for me. Again, our local library is the bomb. It’s got this great view overlooking the ocean, hangout spots, huge comfortable chairs, infinitely high ceilings, gaming consoles and the nicest staff. It’s a prime location for dates as well, hands down.
