What do you like to do outside of music and does it affect your music?
Spending time with with my two years old boy. It does affect my music because after being with him i feel always happy and relaxed.
How would you describe your music genre?
My music combines a lot of different influences. I wouldn’t be able to give it a name or a music genre.
What are your plans for the future?
I am going to host my own TV/radio show for Multi Culti. They started with the idea giving friends of the label the opportunity to host their own show. It will take place and be broadcast from the Multi Culti Headquarter in Neukölln. From August onwards i’ll be hosting my own show and have guests from now and then.
How did you get into music?
When i was young i was listening to music on the radio. In East Berlin where i lived we could listen to West Berlin radio incl. the radio stations from the allies. I listened all day to it and recorded my first tapes. Over the years the music i listened to changed from pop music to electronic music. In 1992 i visited the first time a techno club in Berlin and the Hard Wax record store. From this moment it was clear that this is the music i’ll follow for the rest of my life.
What are you listening to at the moment?
The new album from Die Orangen called Zest. It is the project of Dreems and Kris Baha. It will be out on Malka Tuti on July, 11th.
Who are your top 5 influences and icons?
To be honest i don’t have that kind of icons. Influences are changing all the time.
When and where are you playing next?
I play live with Saschienne in Paris on July, 23rd in Paris at Wanderlust.
Where was the new album Lotos Land recorded and mastered?
I recorded everything in my own studio. Then i’ve sent all the parts to Jörg Burger from Kompakt. Beside the fact that he is a great producer under different alter egos like The Modernist, he does a lot of mastering and mixing jobs. After he finished the mixing session, i’ve sent the mixed tracks to Kuniyuki the mastering engineer of Mule Musiq / Endless Flight. He did the final mastering.
Who did you work with to create Lotos Land?
I composed and recorded every sound on my own. I worked with singers who contributed the vocals on two tracks. On Comala Davis Wilson the singer from The Junto Club is singing together with Emily Evans. On Im Feiern und Feuer Autarkic is singing. I am a big fan of their own music projects and at the end i was very happy to work with them together for Lotos Land.
Your favorite track on the Lotos Land?
I don’t have one favorite track. It is changing quite often. If i would have to choose one track who represents the whole album in it’s best way i would go for Comala.
How has the response been to the new album?
Some people will be surprised if they compare “Lotos Land” with my latest solo album Mango from 2008. But i guess for many people it won’t be a big change as my previous productions on Multi Culti and Turbo and my project Saschienne with Julienne (The Twins / Fantastic Twins) went already into another direction.
What was the most enjoyable part and the most difficult part in the recording process?
The most enjoyable part is always the beginning. Just collecting the ideas and sketches is a pleasure. I could feel free to define the direction of my album. The difficult part happens always at the end where you have to make final decisions in terms of sound, arrangement and running order of the tracks.
