Notaker Returns to mau5trap with the Darkly Triumphant “Retribution”

There is no sweeter revenge than that in return for injustice. If any can capture such an emotion through music, it’s the talented maestro Notaker. The breakthrough American producer returns to mau5trap with his newest dark, atmospheric production “Retribution,” a hauntingly cinematic, spacey journey through the process of seeking – and finding – that reprisal. Notaker coaxes the listener through its opening with lilting instrumentals that build to sweeping melodies, all layered under an undulating bassline. The pressure begins to build and one can almost imagine Notaker‘s inner warrior preparing for battle, finally triumphing at the track’s driving crescendo. Months after his release “Abyss,” Notaker demonstrates that he’s better than ever by the use of analog sounds in “Retribution,” a rare find in today’s synthesized world. It’s this raw, real quality that gives “Retribution” its undeniably visceral appeal. “This song was a step in a different, darker direction for me and the first time I’ve ever implemented analog sounds into my production process,”says Notaker, shedding further light on his inspiration. “The feeling of the song makes me imagine someone planning revenge on someone for the injustices they’ve done to them, hence the name Retribution.”

David Nothaker – better known as Notaker – has received much acclaim for his musical embodiments of ambiguous natural concepts, like his interpretation of fire through “Born in the Flames” on Armada Captivating, , the subaqueous “Abyss” on mau5trap and the mystical “Genesis” EP recently released on Monstercat. With each impressive dislay of his prowess, Notaker is steadily evolving from talented newcomer to vetted dance music prodigy. He certainly has a unique musical style, one that has been praised by fans and tastemakers alike in his relatively short professional career. Inspired by legends like Hans Zimmer, Deadmau5, and Eric Prydz, Notaker specializes in creating an atmosphere around his productions to immerse the listener in the story of his sound, rather than just the track itself. 2017 has been quite a year for Notaker, and we can’t wait to see what he has up his sleeve next.

Notaker Releases Futuristic, Mystical “Genesis” EP on Monstercat

Artists: Notaker
Title: Genesis EP
Label: Monstercat
Release date: 24 October 2017

“Abyss“, “Born in the Flames“, and “Shimmer” are all songs that share a similar concept, to tell a story through the form of music. Adding in another level of experience is something Notaker aims to do with each piece he writes rewarding the listener with more than just a song. To bring you into the world of his music even further he’s introducing a new concept for his largest EP to date.

A sonic device designed to bring you through space and time, to other worlds and into different dimensions, to tell a story and give the listener an experience unlike any other. Notaker begins his vessel series with the “Genesis” EP. With his first song, Notaker invites the listener to “Just Close Your Eyes” and take a ride with him through digital melodies, atmospheric synths, and complex textures. “Just Close Your Eyes” evokes images of a fantasy world in shades of lavender and soft blues sprawling at your feet, a saga just waiting for you to begin. The next song, “Who I Am” unfolds with trance like synths and singer Karra‘s breathtaking vocals, you feel as though you are stepping into your true identity for the first time, claiming the destiny that has been yours from the start. The second half of the EP pushes the listener forward with the driving bass and futuresque nature of “Wake Up, You’re Dreaming,” followed by “So Much Love,” the collection’s most upbeat and dancefloor-friendly track. Notaker closes with the darkest selection of all, the bass-heavy “Terra,” leaving you questioning if what you just experienced was true musical magic. True to form, Notaker seamlessly guides his listener through a multifaceted pilgrimage on “Genesis“; each track possesses its own unique identity, and yet they have all been woven with the same sonic thread. “Genesis,” which is out on Monstercat, conjures a distinctly futuristic and enchanting vibe; Notaker has once again exhibited his mastery not just as a producer, but as a curator of experience.

It’s impossible to listen to a Notaker production without feeling deeply, as evidenced on his emotionally charged tracks like “Who I Am” and his recent remix of Gareth Emery‘s “Saving Light.” Notaker‘s avante-garde music has found homes on forward-thinking labels Armada Captivating, Monstercat and Mau5trapthus far, setting the stage for an impressive musical resume. “Who I Am” is the first hint of what is to come from his much-anticipated “Genesis” EP, the name hinting at the beginning of something very, very big. With his recent track record and upcoming new music

Notaker, Declan James and Singer Karra Break Down Barriers on New Release “Who I Am” on Monstercat

by the partae October 3, 2017
written by the partae

Each of us is born as the most authentic version of ourselves, but that intrinsic sense of identity is often masked as we mature and awareness takes over, forcing our true selves deeper and deeper under the many facades we wear in our various day-to-day roles. The ever-inventive Notaker has taken on the challenge of breaking down those barriers with his newest track “Who I Am,” in collaboration with fellow producer Declan James and vocalist Karra. With its soaring, cinematic synths and Karra‘s emotive vocals, “Who I am” feels distinctly more trance-influenced than Notaker‘s past productions, and it works perfectly with the song’s underlying meaning of acceptance and understanding. “I’m very proud of this record. I feel that Declan, Karra, and I all put our best foot forward on this and it happened to turn into something really special,” said Notaker of the track. “Who I Am” is the lead single on Notaker‘s upcoming EP “Genesis,” which will be fully released on Monstercat on October 24th.

Notaker believes that music isn’t meant to be experienced one-dimensionally; the young Americanproducer specializes in creating an atmosphere around his productions to immerse the listener in the story of his sound, rather than just the song itself. The result is an entirely unique musical experience that evokes emotion and resonates deep within the soul. Notaker Puts a Dark Spin on Gareth Emery’s Emotional “Saving Light”

by the partae August 24, 2017
written by the partae

At the beginning of this year Gareth Emery, Standerwick and Hailene released the emotionally riveting “Saving Light,” which became the first trance track to reach Number 1 on Beatport‘s Overall Chart in five years. Notaker has given “Saving Light” a dark remix fitting for its heavy subject matter, which was originally Gareth‘s personal tribute to the devastation brought about by bullying. A resonant, driving bassline paired with futuristic melodies are evidence of Notaker‘s personal touch; the addition of darker elements to the track cast Haliene‘s angelic vocals in a despairing light, as if the singer is inching closer to the proverbial edge instead of away from it. As it turns out, the track also hit close to him with Notaker himself. “I am very honored to get to remix this one for Gareth. Hearing the anti-bullying message associated with the record really struck a chord with me being that I was bullied a lot through middle school and high school,” he says of the remix, “Having that experience really made it easy for me to put a lot of emotion and feeling behind this record.” The “Saving Light” original and remix are released on Canadian independent label Monstercat, which has also seen releases from Wolfgang Gartner, NERVO, and Seven Lions this year.

It seems like Notaker has been ubiquitous lately; the breakthrough American producer has received much acclaim for his musical embodiments of ambiguous natural concepts, like the slow, tribal burn of the bassline on “Born in the Flames,” the mystical and ethereal-sounding “Shimmer” and the crashing waves and inhale of breath sampled on “Abyss.” Notaker‘s avante-garde music has found homes on forward-thinking labels Armada Captivating, Monstercat and Mau5trap thus far, setting the stage for an impressive musical resume. With his recent track record, the young American producer is steadily evolving from talented newcomer to vetted dance music prodigy. The result is an entirely unique musical experience that evokes emotion and resonates deep within the soul. He was named one of the Top 25 Artists to Watch in 2017 by Dancing Astronaut, and we couldn’t agree more—the future is looking very bright for Notaker. Stay tuned for more upcoming music from Notaker in September.
