How did you start?

With a 486 PC in 1999, having MS-Dos based „Impulse Tracker“ and Windows 3.11 on it.

Where are you currently based?

I was born in Leipzig/Germany and I´m still living here.

Please tell us all about your upcoming 10 track LP on Einmusika Recordings  called “Kontrollverlust” (german word for “losing control”):

I´m part of the Einmusika family for more than 2 years now and after 2 single releases and another 2 remixes it´s time for a longplayer now. „Kontrollverlust“ is the title track I made with the vocals from Xenia Beliayeva and in addition to that I have 9 more tracks which are not all made for the club. The album is a real storyteller and a bit outside the box. That´s what an LP should be imo.

What are you working on right now?

I´m a workaholic, have a lot of open projects everytime. Currently I´m on a remix for Olivier Weiter´s label WEITER besides writing my blogs (FAZE Magazine), doing the daily business for my label JEAHMON! and my podcast series „HOW I MET THE BASS“.

How do you approach each remix? What influences your remixing process? Why do you choose to remix?

To be honest I´m not a super big fan of remixing. I prefer working on my own ideas. But when remixing a few important things should fit together. Of course it´s interesting by the mass of requests which label and artist you choose but every producer probably says the same: you need to have elements in the Original track yet which makes it easy for you to work on. This could be a hookline, a vocal, unique percussions or something like that. Guess everyone of us could remix everything but it needs to have your own handscript. So either making it better or building a contrast to the Original.

What is your equipment setup?

I´m a software guy, working with Propellerheads Reason for more than 15 years now. In addition I use some sounds from my Moog Sub 37 but to be true I´m a lot into sampling, so the mix of that all makes my typical Marc DePulse sound.

What do you like to do outside of music and does it affect your music?

I need my time off after long weekends full of travelling and raving so I love to ride my bike for longer distances. Alone, in the woods, somewhere around my hometown. Here are so many beautiful places to clean your head, I love that! And of course meeting friends and family can bring a lot of inspiration. Having a good mood everyday is important for every artists creativity.

Please tell us about your track on Suara which is coming up which you made with your good buddy Several Defintions:

Jeremy (SD) and I met on Facebook last year. We both were full of compliments for the others music so we decided to start some b2b-tracks. After having two releases out on Selador and Definition:Music now there is another track called „Sharks“ coming on Suara´s „Beauty Imperfection“ compilation end of this summer. Currently we think about doing an album together. So maybe that´s a future project for 2018.

How would you describe your music genre?

I often use to say „I don´t specify my music, I simply play and produce what I love.“ Guess that´s it. It´s not easy to specify genres in 2017 as there are probably hundreds of subs so let´s say it is something between Techno and House. I prefer to not fit in a box.

What are your plans for the future?

Becoming a better artist every day. I´m a freelancer musician for almost 5 years now after quitting my daily job and my dream is to keep this dream alive as long as I can. I learned to not make myself any pressure. Since that I´m living my life in a much easier way.

What’s news with the remixes  that are coming out for WEITER, Dear Deer and Suro Rec.:

Sometimes I loose control about all the upcoming stuff. Yes, there are 3 remixes ahead, another V/A release on Parquet Recordings and finally my album will be released end of November this year on my homie label Einmusika Recordings. As I also released some tracks with my buddy Rafael Cerato, there will be new stuff in early 2018. Also currently I´m working on a single release with Betoko. So my production schedule is more than just full. I learned to spread my music all over the planet and now I can´t stop producing.

How did you get into music?

As a young boy my parents sent me to accordion school. Later I passed my A-levels in music and became member of the school choir for many years. But to be true: I can´t really sing (laughing). So my life was full of music from the early days on. A school friend taught me to produce your own music on a PC. It was the MS-Dos based „Impulse Tracker“ in 1999. Since that I never lost the passion to make my own music.

What are you listening to at the moment?

Nothing really special. Outside of electronic music I don´t listen to that much music. During my time off I prefer to not listen to anything. But of course I´m always open minded for good stuff. If it´s electronic or not.

In addition to all this your running the label JEAHMON! Records: http://classic.beatport.com/label/jeahmon!/29010 Amazing! How did this come about? What does your typical day running a label consist of?

JEAHMON! is a small independent label so I´m not forced to sign music politically. If good stuff is incoming I´m going to release it. If not I´m waiting for good stuff. I´m running this label for 5 years yet and it´s more a big family instead of a huge major. I started the label to release music I love. A lot of artists sent me their music the past years and asked where to send their stuff so I decided to release that on my own imprint. It´s not a big story about the label, I just want to be more flexible. Also with releasing own stuff on it.

Who are your top 3 influences and icons?

Ron Flatter recently became one of my best friends the past years but he also had a big impact on my career once. In this early time I was influenced by music from Dave Shokh, Patrick Chardronnet, Fairmont, James Holden, Extrawelt, Marek Hemmann. It´s hard to name 3, it´s a bit all of them.

You host the (classics) podcast series HOW I MET THE BASS:

Please tell us all about this?

I started HOW I MET THE BASS in 2015. I wanted to have friends on it, telling their story how they got in touch with electronic music once. The series became fame the time after and meanwhile a lot of artists and also managements of bigger acts are getting in touch, asking if there is a free slot to send a mix. That´s a nice story and I´m really excited about every artist I invite to do a mix. Because every one got another story to tell and also I find lots of classic tracks inside I haven´t heard for a very long time. Some of them are part now of my DJ sets, having them back on the stick after maybe 10 years or so. It´s music to remember, music which shaped the artists career and that´s what it´s all about on HOW I MET THE BASS.

When are you playing next?

My holidays just ended so I´m getting back on the road nearly every weekend. Copenhagen is next, then Berlin and the weekend after 3 festivals in Germany. I´m excited to play my Africa debut in September (Rabat/MA) and will be at ADE in Amsterdam/NL this year for the very first time.
