KELELA ANNOUNCES MELBOURNE HEADLINE SHOW
Take Me Apart out now on Warp Records via Inertia Music
Kelela has today announced an exclusive Melbourne headline date to coincide with her Australian tour in support of The xx in January 2018. Kelela will be playing at 170 Russell on Monday, January 15, tickets are on sale now – details below.
Kelela’s debut album Take Me Apart was released this year to universal acclaim, emerging as an epic portrait of an artist spanning the past and future of R&B. In her hands, however, the genre knows no boundaries and so Take Me Apart exists as an absolutely singular and fearless addition to a canon of recent classics. From her very earliest work, honesty and vulnerability have been cornerstones of Kelela’s art – even when clad in the armour of the avant-garde electronics she so deftly inhabits – and Take Me Apart sees her double down on both the emotional intensity and resonance of her message as well as the sonic seeking she is renowned for.
In September, Kelela performed at the iconic Hollywood Bowl alongside like-minded artistsSolange, Blood Orange, Moses Sumney, KING, and Kelsey Lu. Now she’s in the midst of a lengthy tour, playing shows across North America through November, with a slew of dates in Europe to come before heading to Australia in January, 2018. Recently heralded by Björk as one of the icon’s favourite artists, don’t miss this opportunity to see Kelela perform her new album live.

PRAISE FOR KELELA
“Kelela has a look in her eye, she’s ready to level up. Clattering,
treacherous drums give way to sputtering-then-simmering
synths then that glorious, inquisitive voice.”
Herald Sun, ★★★★
“It’s seductive and potent and most definitely, “LMK” is enticing as hell.”
The AU Review, Single Of The Day “LMK”
“A towering achievement of an album.”
Stereogum, Album Of The Week
“Kelela’s celebration and command of sensitivity and rawness
in her music is both fortifying and revolutionary.”
The FADER
“In a time where the world seems insanely out of control, there’s power
in tenderness and loving, which is exactly what Kelela is about,
not just in her music but in her life.”
Purple Sneakers
“A very welcome return from the producer, songwriter, and singer
who looks set to embark on the biggest push of her career.”
ACCLAIM
“‘Take Me Apart’ is a dazzling, tempest of an album, with the kind
of creative vision reminiscent of Afrofuturism, and the patient
vulnerability of an artist that knows what she wants.”
FBi Radio, Album Of The Week
