HONEY point out that “Nothing is worse than fading away.” Their new and third single, “Wage Agreement” is about “knowing that you are about to fade away, but you don’t want to face it,” they explain. The track debuted via Brooklyn Vegan today who’ve described it’s “Led by an unhinged slide guitar and bashing drums, the song pleas to ‘give me some time’.”
Their forthcoming record New Moody Judy is almost here on Wharf Cat which Ad Hoc describes as “heavy, haunting psych rock” and Noisey claims has “the best pummeling backbeats the Stooges never wrote”. The band have become a household name for everyone fiending for the raw authenticity that, thankfully, can still be found in NYC at the intersection of punk and rock and roll. Before they were members of the same band, Cory Feierman (bass, vocals) and Dan Wise (guitar, vocals) knew one another from Brooklyn’s Academy Records, where Cory worked as a buyer and Dan was a regular. One day Dan mentioned he was looking for a copy of The Gun Club’s Death Party EP, which happened to be the next record in the stack of recent arrivals that Cory was pricing. The coincidence ultimately led them to realize that they had more in common than just an appreciation for punk records, and they began playing together not long afterwards. At the time, Dan was a member of The Psychic Ills, and shared the occasional bill with Will Schmeichen (drums), who was then part of Amen Dunes. Eventually it came to light that Dan needed a drummer for his new band and that Will was interested in joining a more rock and roll focused project. Soon after Honey was born.
2015’s Love Is Hard, in the words of Byron Coley, was “a great, hard-edged slice of rock noise” – this fall’s New Moody Judy picks up where the band left off with their debut and layers on ferocious riffs and rhythms previously known only to those who have witnessed the power-trio’s live set.
