CUT COPY SHARE NEW SINGLE “BLACK RAINBOWS” LISTEN HERE

PRE-ORDER HAIKU FROM ZERO HERE

LIFTED FROM FORTHCOMING ALBUM HAIKU FROM ZERO OUT SEPTEMBER 22 VIA EMI MUSIC

Following on from “Airborne” and most recent cut “Standing In The Middle of the Field”, Cut Copy unveil their third single “Black Rainbows” – lifted from their highly anticipated forthcoming album Haiku From Zero, out September 22 via EMI Music/Astralwerks.

“Black Rainbows” is one of the most infectious tracks off the album. The band flaunt their signature combination of funky instrumentation, divine guitar licks and creative lyrics, giving the listener an earful of blissful electronica.

“Black Rainbows” is lifted from their long-awaited fifth album, Haiku From Zero, Cut Copy’s first proper studio album in nearly four years and first for EMI/Astralwerks. NPR Music are offering fans an exclusive first listen to Haiku From Zero, in the week leading up to its September 22 release. Written and recorded at studios around the world (Melbourne, Copenhagen, Washington, DC, New York, Atlanta), the nine tracks on Haiku From Zero nonetheless present a united sonic front, due in no small part to the guiding ear of producer Ben Allen (Deerhunter, Animal Collective, Neon Indian).

Earlier this week, Cut Copy shared a remix of “Standing in the Middle of the Field” by Melbourne’s Ara Koufax. “Standing In the Middle of the Field” was praised by Pitchfork as “a spirited bop with some sly pensive tension at its core… With it, Cut Copy reassert their ability to turn even moody introspection into floor-filler bliss”. Meanwhile their July-released single “Airborne” was hailed by Stereogum as “’a disco-pop odyssey that sounds like, well, soaring through the sky, before eventually blasting off into psychedelic bliss”, and received nods from Noisey and Paste Magazine for its “wildly imaginative”accompanying video directed by Gerson Aguerri (The Vaccines, Breakbot) of Barcelona-based company CANADA.

Celebrating the release of Haiku From Zero, Cut Copy will embark on a 17 date North American headline tour, kicking off on November 9 in Santa Cruz & heading all the way to Terminal 5 in NY. After their run across the States, the band will return home to play Lost Paradise Festival and Beyond The Vally over the New Years Eve period.

“Black Rainbows” is the third single from the forthcoming Haiku From Zero. With just one week from its September 22 release, we can’t wait to hear “Black Rainbows” together with “Airborne”, “Standing In The Middle of the Field” and six unheard tracks.

“…a disco-pop odyssey that sounds like, well, soaring through the sky, before eventually blasting off into psychedelic bliss” – Stereogum

The midnight munchies meet magical realism in Cut Copy’s official video for “Airborne”, out today via EMI/Astralwerks. Director Gerson Aguerri (Tame Impala, The Vaccines, Breakbot) of the Barcelona-based production company CANADA weaves a tale that begins with a mysterious light shooting across the sky, unbeknownst to Cut Copy lead vocalist Dan Whitford, who is composing a new song on his keyboard. Whitford’s quest for a late-night snack turns cosmic as he hits the city streets.

Dan Whitford says, “The is probably the most interesting and most challenging video that I’ve ever been involved in. It was shot in Barcelona, all through the night for three days running and culminated with a final scene with me having not slept for 24 hours and playing a piano on the back of a moving truck. To say it was a once in a lifetime experience is no understatement! Despite the sleep deprivation, Gerson and his team at CANADA did a fantastic job bringing this surreal story to life.”

“Airborne” – Cut Copy’s first official single in four years – gives fans an early glimpse of the new material the GRAMMY-nominated band has been recording in studios around the world. The song was produced by Ben Allen (Deerhunter, Animal Collective) and marks Cut Copy’s first release on Astralwerks.

PASTE Magazine called “Airborne” ‘infectious’ and noted, “The track is an airy, confident, synth-disco-driven pop gem that you’ll want to listen to on repeat, exemplifying Cut Copy’s effortless appeal to both those rave-y/club kids and more song-based listeners.” Noisey observed, “’Airborne’ percolates with baubles of percussion, Nile Rodgers-esque disco guitars, and vocal samples all buffed to a sheen. It is classy as shit, and it’s definitely a ‘match your steps to the tempo of the song as you walk down the street’ kind of jam.” SPIN said, “the track is a guitar-driven dance effort with spacey drum machine rhythms and soaring, reverb-drenched synth lines”.

After wrapping up massive headline shows in Sydney and Melbourne (sold out), Cut Copy now announce they’ll be heading to the US for headline dates in Texas and Oklahoma, alongside festival appearances at Luna Lights, CRSSD and Austin City Limits.

Cut Copy will appear at Splendour In The Grass tonight, playing the Mix Up Stage. For the lucky ones attending, be sure to catch their set. For anyone staying at home, delve into their new video “Airborne”and get ready for more new music on the way.
